Is ImageIO going to be the default way to save images in JavaFX

I have noticed that in examples where we save images to files from JavaFX (for example screenshot and then save out), ImageIO is used. There are still areas where ImageIO lags behind the now essentially dead JAI libraries (which do a much better job on Png compression sizes and you need for JPEG2000). Is the long-term plan for JavaFX
1. to have a new way to save images from JavaFX (to avoid bouncing then through a BufferedImage)
2. develop ImageIO more.
3. Leave it for third-party developers to fill the gap.
Image support has been stagnant on the Java platform (and it was lacking in several areas to start with). So it would be really helpful to know Oracle's plan (if there is one).

Thanks for the suggestions as to setting the default values for "view options" - but I have been doing exactly as you describe and the default - at least for the main hard drive folder - doesn't hold. I want to see all my folders in list view, but every time after I shut down my Mac and then restart and open the main hard drive folder for my MacBook Pro (early 2008), it opens in icon view and I have reset its vie default to list view. I've had to do this almost every day for three months (I chose Always show as List in the Finder toolbar, check the Always show as List, modify one list option so the "Use as Default" option is active and then select Use as Default). Note that the default list view seems to be sticking with some of the folders I use more regularly - or created in list view.
Do you know how I can get the hard drive window to hold the list view as the default?

Moving files back and forth between Adobe Illustrator and CorelDRAW is tricky. There's quite a bit more to it than knowing what version of CorelDRAW the client is using. If the artwork is fairly simple then there shouldn't be any problem with transferring the artwork into CorelDRAW. If the artwork has gradients, transparency effects, a lot of clipping masks, etc. then it's going to be a lot more dicey getting it to import into CorelDRAW properly. In addition to the .AI file you provide, you should give the client a PDF they can view in Adobe Reader or Acrobat so they can proof how the artwork is really supposed to look.
I use Adobe Illustrator CC and CorelDRAW X6 in my work. I've used both applications for over 20 years. I don't consider either application better than the other. They both have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. I'll do a good bit of creative work within CorelDRAW to use certain features Illustrator either lacks or just doesn't do as well. Or I may need to design a really big project at full scale and Corel has a much bigger art board than Illustrator. Most of the time I move a lot of the stuff I created in CorelDRAW over to Illustrator for further refinement or moving it into Photoshop as paths or smart objects or just getting it ready to print (I don't like Corel's color engine even though it has improved in recent years).
Like others have said, you need to know the basics of what the user has -mainly which version of CorelDRAW. The newer versions like the one I'm using can open Illustrator CS5 files. For older versions, you may have to save down to CS2 or even really old versions like Illustrator 8.
CorelDRAW will not support certain Illustrator-dependent effects. For instance, if you apply a gradient to an object outline it will be lost when opened in CorelDRAW. A lot of other effects won't be maintained when opened in Corel unless they are flattened/expanded. Some effects may even have to be rasterized, and that can create other issues. Out of effects that are maintained, some may have to be adjusted. CorelDRAW and Adobe Illustrator handle things like gradient fills differently and don't understand how to portray gradients from their rival application accurately. Some nice fill that was created in CorelDRAW may have to be tweaked or completely rebuilt when opened in Illustrator.
I get a lot of customer files in CorelDRAW and also a lot in Illustrator. That reason alone makes it necessary for me to have both CorelDRAW and Adobe Illustrator running on my computer.

Not that I'm aware of. You just export JPEG copies to a folder that you can point iTunes to. For instance, I have created a folder in my Pictures folder called Apple TV. And within that folder I have other folders of pictures that I can choose from in iTunes to share with Apple TV. But there doesn't seem to be any way to share a Lightroom slideshow. If you have laid to create a video file that would probably work. Apple TV is a little clunky in my opinion. Some things are a little more difficult to do now than they were a while back. I probably haven't provided you with much help, but just keep experimenting and I think you will figure it out.

What's the best way to save an 8.5 x 11 image for use as a page background in a PDF? My goal is to have a relatively small final .pdf file size that includes numerous pages with full 8.5 x 11 images as backgrounds in the document. If I save at 8.5 x 11 and 72dpi (example), the image is not 8.5 x 11, and the quality is not good enough. I need help with size, dpi, and file format to save as before I place it in InDesign and then save as a .pdf.

Do exactly what I said then. Create the InDesign document of the required dimension, and chose whether it will be high quality print, or Interactive PDF. It really doesn't mater what format you bring the image into that document. It can be JPG, PNG, but I usually use native Photoshop PSD. The image does have to be of high enough resolution, but it can be many times bigger than iis required for the final export. (InDesign does not import the image, but rather references it on your hard drive.)
When you have placed your text and finished your page, then export it to PDF, but go through the tabs chosing suitable settings. If the image needs to be downsized, InDesign will do that at this stage while building the PDF.
If you can tell us how this presentation will be made (Projector, overhead projector, printed page etc. or just emailed to the end users) we can help you more with the final output settings.

Whats the best way to save large folders/files on multiple dvds?

A quick question about the best way to save to dvd(4.7gb disc) a large number of folders/files.I've got about 30-40gb of stuff to save from mp3 sample files through to logic audio files.I already have them saved to another HD but i just want to be extra safe and have another back up.In the past i've just saved it disc by disc creating each folder as i go dragging the appropriate folder across.I was just wondering whether there was an easier way than this.May be an application where i can drag all the files and it will sort and save everything for me much like the way itunes now saves/backups files.

if you have Toast you can save your stuff using Toast. There's a great option within Toast. You need to select the Data tab and choose "Mac only". Then just drag all the stuff you want to burn to the Toast window and it will automatically ask for another DVD until everything is burnt. After that all your DVDs will have a Toast Restore app on them. It lets you select what you want to restore and will tell you which DVDs to insert. The problem that when I modify text; the image don’t move with it, and when I place it within the text, it's difficult to control text flow.

it's a bit dificult to control anchored object -speacially in two colum text box- when placing image in one and half colum size, it wont move to first column.

Save as a project means that all the files used in the section
will be saved to a folder (audio, midi, plug-ins, automation, presets, samples etc.)
Reference PDF Page 53 - "Saving as Project You can use the File > Save as Project function to save a song or project. If the open song isn’t already a project, the saved song file is assigned “project” status. This allows you to set the Project settings (File > Project > Settings) which determine how imported files are handled. This also makes the project “safe”, allowing you to move or copy the project folder without losing any file references that point to items within the folder. In the Save As Project dialog you can choose, if the project files should be copied or moved into the project folder. "

hi man... i think so imaging is better with JAI(Java Advanced Imaging) .... is perfect for display in jcomponent like JPanel or JLabel, you have to replace the paintComponent().

Usually when I'm browsing through random photos, either for work or for leisure, I always middle click them to open a new tab. So again, is there a way to save images from multiple tabs without cycling through each tab, right-clicking, deleting that tab then going to the next? Help is much appreciated.

An alternative to middle clicking all the image links is just to use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/201/ DownThemAll] extension with its [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12577/ anti-container] companion to choose the images you want to download from the original page of random photos.

I have no idea if you will be able to reproduce these two critical BUGS but I can assure you that they are not present when I use Firefox 26 and they are present when I use Firefox 27, 28, and 29. More, be aware that I have at least 100 tabs opened but I also have this same number of tabs opened in Firefox 26 and yet I do not experience these two critical bugs when I have Firefox 26!
Once again, these two bugs touch at two vital, critical very basic functions of Firefox and therefore I will NOT be able to use any version above 26 if these two bugs are still present, as they are present in Firefox 27, 28, and now 29!!!

I am still reading it again to try to figure out exactly what the person did to make his problems be solved, as the post is not clear at all on what solved the problems!
In any case, all the suggestions proposed in this post do not work and I surely cannot do a system restore when it is obvious that the two bugs do not appear in Internet Explorer.

First, I sent an email to the author of PhotoME to inform him of the serious issues his addon caused with Firefox latest versions.
Now, for those of you who do not have the PhotoME addon and yet experience the same problem that I had and that I described above, I suggest the following strategy.
As PhotoME did cause these problems with Firefox latest versions, I am pretty covinved other addons probably might cause these problems too. Therefore, adopt the following method.
Test one addon at a time to see if this particular addon is behind your Firefox issues like the ones I had.
So, disable one addon only at a time. Then close your Firefox and restart it from scratch and see if you still have your Firefox problems. You must restart the Firefox browser from scratch. If you still have these Firefox problems, re-enable the disabled addon, restart your Firefox (again!) and repeat the same method for every single addon that you have.
Try to be selective by choosing first addons that are more likely to cause your Firefox problems such as not very well-known or not very popular addons (like it was the case for the PhotoME addon).
If this method works or if it does not work, report it on this web page so that others can be helped with your comments.
I hope this method will help you because I was really upset that I had these Firefox problems and I first thought it was the fault of Firefox, only to discover later that this PhotoME addon was the culprit and had caused me such upset.

Change the default way a new file opens

I'm working on Mac OS 10.7.5 and DW2014.1
One of the most irritating things about up grades is when you discover the nice cosy way you've done things for years gets trampled all over for no apparent benefit- the only solace is that I guess the new way of working MUST please more people than it annoys - otherwise Adobe wouldn't have done it - right?
ANYHOW - when I used to open a new file in DW it opened in split code / design view with the design view on the right. This is not just habit - it's actually how i want to work. The default is now suddenly the opposite and I'm darned if I can change the default. (I can of course change it EVERY time I open a file which is about 12 times an hour). I have tried changing it and then saving the current workspace - doesn't work. I have tried changing it and saving a new workspace. This doesn't work either. Feels like a preference but I can't find one.
Any ideas anyone?

If I'm allowed a supplementary - a couple of other bits of bit of really useful functionality seem to have disappeared -
1. When you clicked on the opening tag of an element a little line used to show up above the properties window showing the CSS stack and highlighting the current tag in a nice bright blue - it's gone. I can select the 'show parent div' icon in the tool bar but it's way clumsier.
2. In the tool bar there used to be a fabulously useful icon that let you backwards select a tag - i.e. to click on the closing tag and it would show you the matching closing tag - this seems to have gone too.
Sorry about the War and Peace questions - any answers hugely appreciated.

There is no setting that will change this currently. Please vote for the Idea I have posted to the ideas section which you can reach by clicking on the "Ideas" tab at the top of the summary page. I completely agree with your analysis.
For your other questions, I'm a little unsure about what you are describing:
1. Do you mean the Tag selector listing that would appear immediately below the document window?
2. Do you mean the "balance braces" icon on the Code view toolbar?

My ringtones that I downloaded won't play on my IPhone 6, it just goes back to the default... Help!

I got my IPhone 6 last month, and I got a couple of ringtones, but the other day I noticed that it will no longer work. If it's set on any of the ringtones it will reset to the default tones on my phone, but if its on a tone already on the phone, it works. Help me out please!
