Is it possible I have a buggy version of Photoshop CS5?
I have Photoshop CS5. I've had difficltuy from day one with the simple task of changing colors in my background or other layers. I can change colors using the background color picker box but I cannot select and apply custom colors using my eyedropper tool. I've been stuck going back and forth between PS and Fireworks to change colors, which is a clunky workflow.
After asking questions here and on other boards, none of the instructions offered solve my problem. Do I need to all my PS files and reinstall? Or should I go back to an earlier version?

I guess PS is the wrong tool for simple graphic design.
Personally, I would never make that statement. Fireworks and Photoshop both contain tools for pixel-based and vector-based creation and editing. You should do a Google search on compare Fireworks and Photoshop and you will find many discussions, some heated, on the merits and deficiencies of each. They are both effective and are used by many for web design, though Fireworks was created specifically for that endeavor.
I think with a little bit of training in the methods of work in Photoshop you will be able to decide how it fits into your design life. So don't give up on it yet. It really is an enormously capable tool and can produce simple or complex graphic designs in addition to manipulating images.

I have a licensed version of PhotoShop CS5 and bought a CS6 upgrade. When I do upgrade it says license id not valid. What next? How can I contact support personel?
Hi David,
You need to download CS6 Photoshop and enter the serial number for CS6 Photoshop and then you would be prompted to enter the serial number for qualifying product.
Enter the CS5 serial number in order to install and activate CS5 Photoshop on your machine.
Thank you for posting on Adobe Forums. -
Is my CS5 serial number supposed to work for CS6?
No.
You must pay for CS6 and then you will receive a new CS6 serial number.
Or join the Creative Cloud for a monthly fee. -
I currently have an old version of Photoshop - CS, is it possible to upgrade?
I currently have an old version of Photoshop - CS, is it possible to upgrade to a newer version? It keeps crashing on my new Mac (Macbook Pro 2GHz Intel Core i7 running OSX version 10.6.8) and I don't use photoshop that much (probably once per month to design gig flyers) so I cannot justify spending $1,168 for the current version of CS6. I don't want to try and learn a new product either, I just want to be able to use Photoshop without it crashing. Please help!
From CS - CS6, there is no upgrade option possible. The last version that Adobe lets you upgrade from is CS3 (that too, till December 2012). Adobe usually supports current minus 2 versions for upgrade support.
In your case, you should buy a full version - yes I know it is expensive and having said that you need it only once a month, I don't know what to advice here.
Regarding CS not running on 10.6.8, are you getting any specific error codes/ numbers/ crash reports? If so, can you please post that here so we can see what may be going wrong?
While I doubt CS will work on OS 10.4 or 10.5+ (I've never used it), I can't say it never will work either. The only way to tell is to see a crash report to see what is going wrong.

I installed Elements 12 because my version of Photoshop (CS5.1) is not compatible with Yosemite. Now the Adobe Application Manager will not search for updates for any of the programs in CS5.5 that I have. How do I fix this?

I have an older version of Photoshop...3.5. I bought a new computer and what I have will not load. I love this version. Can I get a new cd that will load into Windows 7? or do I have to buy a complete new program?
No CD, but you can download the installation files if you have the serial number, and the previous install has been deactivated
https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-product-downloads.html
or
Download Adobe CS5.5 Trials: Direct Links (no Assistant / Manager) | ProDesignTools
If you are unable to deactivate the earlier installation, you wil need to phone customer support and ask them to reset your activations. -

Hi. I am trying to install the watermark panel plugin. I installed the extension manager, and when I tried to install the plugin, the extension manager said I don't have the latest version of photoshop. I thought when you paid into the creative cloud you get all the latest versions? Lance
The Creative Cloud has three versions of Photoshop version 13, 14 and 15. You can install the ones you want I have them and CS2 installed.

I have a trial version of Photoshop and Lightroom installed with a view of taking out a subscription. Some of the features in this trial version do not work is this just because it is a trial version.

Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.
