Is it possible to install Lion without an internet connection?

I have the Lion Thumb drive but it just pop's up a dialog box saying that it can't download the additional components.  What additional components are there?
Surely this defeats the point of having an install drive if it still requires the internet to complete the install.
I have a Mac Pro at Work that only has a dial up connection, I thought the thumb drive was the answer but it seems I was wrong.
Switching the dial up on during installation gets past the first problem mentioned above but then it still doesn't work because the installer kicks you out after restarting in the Lion boot sequence because, you guessed it, No internet connection!
Any suggestions Apple? or anyone?

Thaks for the reply, I agree it is a little dumb, they even state on the website thumb drive page that
" If you don't have broadband access, you can visit any Apple Retail Store to get help with downloading. Or you can order theOS X Lion USB Thumb Drive from the Apple Online Store."
But clearly this is just not true as the installer requires a connection before it will even load anything. Is it possible they got the software installation wrong on the thumbdrive?
I have posted a bug report for what good it will do.
It is also a presumption that everybody has 3.4GB of download data spare for whenever they need to download. My mobile limit is 6GB. If I am on the raod and have trouble, I cannot download even twice. It's ok at home or for anybody with large amounts of download data, but still time consuming. I love having my install discs handy at all times, and even burning a Lion DVD really messes up my nice collection of OS Install Discs! (lol on that bit)
You need to make sure you are with a reliable IP server as well.
Cheers

It won't allow us to assign ipads without an internet connection. Where we work our internet is locked down for security and ipads dont have internet access capabilities and we are not talking about 1 or 2 ipads, we are talking about 100.

  • How to install KDE without an internet connection

I have a fast internet connection at the office, but not at home.
    1. What files do I need to copy so that I can burn a KDE CD?
    2. What is the procedure to install KDE from my own CD?
    Thank you.
    wickyd

Those commands don't need an internet connection.
    Do this:
    1) download ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/current/os/i686 … .db.tar.gz and ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/extra/os/i686/extra.db.tar.gz when you have internet
    2) on your home pc (as root): cd /var/lib/pacman ; cd current ; rm -rf * ; tar xzf /path/to/current.db.tar.gz ; cd ../extra ; rm -rf * ; tar xzf /path/to/extra.db.tar.gz
    3) pacman -Sp --noconfim kde > pkglist
    4) take that file where you have internet and run wget -nv -i .../pkglist in an empty directory
    5) when the download has finished take those files to your home pc, put them in /var/cache/pacman/pkg and run pacman -S kde

  • Installing CC Without an Internet Connection

My company does not have direct internet access from our client machines.
When I download the CC suite and run the Create Cloud Packager, one of the first prompts that appears is to Sign In using my Adobe ID. After entering my credentials, the Creative Cloud Packager presumably attempts to connect and sign in via the internet. Because I have no such connection, the Packager presents a spinning square icon indefinitely. I've let it sit for a few hours with no sign of progress.
When purchasing CC, my company explicitly made this restriction known, and we acquired license/package that was specific to government organizations.
    Nevertheless, I'm stuck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Thank you, kglad.
I believe I misunderstood the nature of my problem, but maybe this can help someone in the future...
After talking with tech support, I found out that what I'm trying to do is wrangle a Creative Cloud "Enterprise" solution.
Through this "CC Enterprise", system administrators download a "Packaging" manager that can create multiple install configurations for distribution among the enterprise. So, in my case, someone in IT will need to perform the set-up and activation of my package and send it to me. Apparently, when setting up the package, the IT admin can set whether or not the target client machines are isolated. I won't need access to the internet to activate, get upgrades, etc., but that IT admin will...
Hope that helps somebody out there...

Is it possible to install Lion on the second hard disk on my Mini (2010) Snow Leopard Server, and switch between Lion and Snow Leopard? I like those voices Lion has in speech.

When baltwosaid NO emphatically, that was described as CORRECT ANSWER. Ditto in the caeses of the radically different answers from  Camelotand Matt Clifton
Could it be that CORRECT ANSWER needs better defining by Apple?
That apart, yes, switching might involve rebooting. About the voices, well, I was the other day adding voice to a commentary in a video I was working on. There's only American English accent in SL — Lion I believe has British ones as well.
Why not, I wondered, try to install Lion purely for academic interest, maybe with an SD card (Sandisk Ultra II, 16GB) as Tom Nelson says is possible at http://macs.about.com/od/macoperatingsystems/ss/Perform-A-Clean-Install-Of-Os-X- Lion-On-Your-Mac.htm

Can I install Adobe Photoshop in my laptop and access it without any Internet connection?

Perpetual versions you can and it possible to to activate them offline.  Offline Activation
The Creative Cloud versions can be installed offline but you need an Internet connection to activate the installed applications,  I also believe Adobe has recently made the Creative cloud desktop application an mandatory install.  It need not be running at all times however it will be installed.

Music is not included in the backup (and nor are films or tv shows), only the contents of third-party apps are included. Did you not do File > Transfer Purchases when connected to your computer's iTunes to copy your iTunes purchases over, and/or have you not got a backup copy of your music somewhere e.g. on an external drive ?

Are you using a v6 uitlity.. because it is a toy.. ??
Get v5 utility and then you can hold down the option key and select the right mode.
If you have lion, just install it.. For ML follow this.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • Windows APP without real internet connection stops working in time

Windows APP without real internet connection stops working in time
    Hello all,
I am trying to get the following to work. We have an intranet page which users need to connect to, to operate some machines. This is done through an windows 8.1 Tablet with an assigned KIOSK mode app (Kios SP Browser).
This works great as the assigned app is the only thing the user can run and we don't have to really harden the device. One drawback in using the assigned apps is that it needs to be an New App (as Microsoft call it)
The app is installed on an reference machine which runs in workgroup mode (no domain connection is needed on the devices) and after the reference machine is installed it is imaged with the use of Acronis. After deployment the tablet has no connection to
internet and the intranet page is wireless put available to the tablets. As a side note, the tablet operates with local accounts and the app is installed using an corporate hotmail account we created just for this purpose.
I now deployed the image over 20 different tablet devices and this worked great until recently a few devices start to complain it needs to connect to the windows shop before the app can be started. As the devices don't have internet access this can't be
done and the tablet is rendered useless for the user.
How can i make the app available without internet connection ? and how can i be sure the app will continue to work over time without connection to the store ?

    Thanks for the reply.
I can't unblock the internet connection as the wireless network doesn't have any internet connection what so ever. The main purpose is to be able to operate the machinery and nothing else, hence the kios app which is being used to show the intranet page
which connects than to the devices.
The problem is that after imaging the app works as expected but after a few days the app stops to work ...
I found the following website over site loading an app without the needed appx files. It shows an way to capture the files during installation from the windows store.
    https://www.404techsupport.com/2014/06/installing-free-windows-8-modern-apps-without-the-windows-store/
It is a bit strange to have it this difficult to install apps without the needed store and i think that Microsoft should make this easier. I hope this works better and after a few days i will give the feedback how this handles..
If anyone knows of a better way .....

  • LR5 without an internet connection

Can you buy the Lightroom 5 CD and activate it on your computer without an internet connection? My photography computer is not connected to the internet and I dont want to connect it.

You can buy the standalone version of Lightroom 5.0 (which is the version sold on CD at Amazon and other places) and then use Lightroom without an internet connection. The Map Module will not work without an Internet connection.
You might want to download the latest update of Lightroom, which is Lightroom 5.7.1 and use that instead of Lightroom 5.0. You could download the installer file on a different computer from Product updates and then move that file to your PC which is not connected to the Internet and then install that way.

  • Can I run elements 12 without an internet connection?

I have elements 12 installed on my notebook computer and it's working fine. I am about to attend a workshop on elements this sunday and am wondering if I can run it without an internet connection? I can get an internet for my notebook via my mobile phone if necessary but will need to get a data package upgrade to do so.

    Hi,
As far as i know, once photoshop elements 12 has been activated, it never needs the internet again, except to deactivate.
(there are a few things to download, such as the extra stuff for the Effects panel that require an internet connection, but that is optional)
You should probably ask over in the photoshop elements forum just to be sure.

  • Is there a way to use the preview in browser function without an Internet connection?

This morning our cable modem was down and I was making some changes to a page in a Muse site I'm designing. I wanted to preview the changes in a browser, but when I clicked on the Preview button (or clicked on preview in browser), I received a notification that it was checking for an Internet connection and the preview page never completed. Is there a way to use the preview in browser function in Muse without an Internet connection?

Thanks for getting back to me! When our cable modem went down, we were still connected to Airport Base Station, and perhaps it appeared to Muse that we did have an Internet connection. In any case, we have now received a new cable modem and our network is working again. As you suggested, I disconnected from the network and tried preview in Muse again, and now it seems to be working just fine. Perhaps it was just the circumstances of our network problem this morning. Good to know I can use the Muse Preview function off-line!

  • Is there a way that I can control iTunes with the iPhone without any internet connections?

First let me say that I am ready to throw this POS in the lake.  Is there a way that I can control iTunes with my iPhone without any internet connections?  On my houseboat I have a wifi router and want to connect my phone to my computer to control my music which plays from my computer through my stereo.  I can easily do it with my laptop without having to jump through any internet APPLE BS , but I dont want to have my laptop out on the deck. I just want to use the phone as a remote control.
Remote wont do it because it keeps saying Im not connected to the internet, even though is is connected to my computer.  Same problem with JumiAmp.

It should have an option to manage iTunes library without network connection, like Bluetooth or connect directly to the computer without a router or wi-fi, i live outsite of the city and i dont have the ability to control my iTunes librry from the iphone
