Is it possible to lock a single value in a table

is it possible to lock a single value in a table ?
please suggest me the best possible ways to do so
thanks in advance

HI,
You can lock a Single reocrd also, you need to create the Lock object first form SE11, then follow the below link, you will get your answer

  • Best Practice for Extracting a Single Value from Oracle Table

    I'm using Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.3.0.
    I'd like to know the best practice for doing something like this in a PL/SQL block:
    DECLARE
        v_student_id    student.student_id%TYPE;
    BEGIN
        SELECT  student_id
        INTO    v_student_id
        FROM    student
        WHERE   last_name = 'Smith'
        AND     ROWNUM = 1;
    END;
    Of course, the problem here is that when there is no hit, the NO_DATA_FOUND exception is raised, which halts execution.  So what if I want to continue in spite of the exception?
    Yes, I could create a nested block with EXCEPTION section, etc., but that seems clunky for what seems to be a very simple task.
    I've also seen this handled like this:
    DECLARE
        v_student_id    student.student_id%TYPE;
        CURSOR c_student_id IS
            SELECT  student_id
            FROM    student
            WHERE   last_name = 'Smith'
            AND     ROWNUM = 1;
    BEGIN
        OPEN c_student_id;
        FETCH c_student_id INTO v_student_id;
        IF c_student_id%NOTFOUND THEN
            DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('not found');
        ELSE
            (do stuff)
        END IF;
        CLOSE c_student_id;
    END;
    But this still seems like killing an ant with a sledge hammer.
    What's the best way?
    Thanks for any help you can give.
    Wayne

    Do not design in order to avoid exceptions. Do not code in order to avoid exceptions.
    Exceptions are good. Damn good. As it allows you to catch an unexpected process branch, where execution did not go as planned and coded.
    Trying to avoid exceptions is just plain bloody stupid.
    As for you specific problem. When the SQL fails to find a row and a value to return, what then? This is unexpected - if you did not want a value, you would not have coded the SQL to find a value. So the SQL not finding a value is an exception to what you intend with your code. And you need to decide what to do with that exception.
    How to implement it. The #1 rule in software engineering - modularisation.
    E.g.
    create or replace function FindSomething( name varchar2 ) return foo.col1%type is
      id foo.col1%type;
    begin
      select col1 into id from foo where col2 = upper(name);
      return( id );
    exception when NOT_FOUND then
      return( null );
    end;
    And that is your problem. Modularisation. You are not considering it.
    And not the only problem mind you. Seems like your keyboard has a stuck capslock key. Writing code in all uppercase is just as bloody silly as trying to avoid exceptions.

  • Multiple Single values in Setup table filling

    Hi all,
    I need to fill the setup table for Sales Orders. I have around 1000 Sales orders whose number are not in any sequence.  Its extremenly difficult to fill data for each sales order individually.
    Is there any way to do multiple single selection while filling the setuptable.?
    Thanks in advance.

    Copy the std program (example RMCVNEUA)
    Copy the include rmcvntop to zrmcvntop and change the selection to a select option like this
    select-options s_belnr for DD_BELNR-low.
    Copy RMCSNF00 to zRMCSNF00
    then overwrite the selecti_option fill in ZRMCSNF00 change to add this piece of code
    *       FORM SELECT_OPTION_FILL                                       *
    *       füllt select_options für Belegauswahl                         *
    *  -->  SF_BELNRACT                                                   *
    FORM select_option_fill USING sf_belnract  LIKE dd_belnr-low
                                   sf_belnr_h  LIKE dd_belnr-high.
    if not sf_belnract is initial.
      dd_belnr-sign = 'I'.
      dd_belnr-option = 'BT'.
      dd_belnr-low    = sf_belnract.
      dd_belnr-high   = sf_belnr_h.
      APPEND dd_belnr.
    else.
    loop at s_belnr.
      dd_belnr-sign = 'I'.
      dd_belnr-option = 'EQ'.
      dd_belnr-low    = s_belnr-low.
      APPEND dd_belnr.
    endloop.
    endif.
    ENDFORM.                               " select_option_fill
    Then change  RMCVNEUA to use zrmcvntop instead of rmcvntop and zRMCSNF00 instead of RMCSNF00

    Is it possible to Lock just one column value in a row
    A Java Developer has just asked me if it is possible to Lock just one column value in a row in Oracle
    select ename from emp where empno=7369 for update;
    EMPNO ENAME      JOB              MGR HIREDATE         SAL       COMM     DEPTNO
    7369 SMITH      CLERK           7902 17-DEC-80        800                    20

    But is it possible to lock one column value from this row, like SAL=800 ?

  • Query Customer Exit - Multi Single Values

    Hi SDN,
    Is it possible to return multi-single values in a customer exit for a query variable or only a range?
    I have 2 characteristics (NUMC), an item ZITEM and a group ZGROUP.  An item can belong to many groups.
    ZITEM           ZGROUP
    1                     1
    1                     2
    2                     3
    4                     1
    I would like to create a variable in Query Designer for ZITEM that returns a list of single values for ZITEM (not a range).  For example, Group 1 should return items 1, 4.
    The relationship between ZITEM and ZGROUP is not defined in master data (compounding).  Currently, I have a DSO which has ZITEM and ZGROUP defined as a key.  I would like my query variable-customer exit to read the DSO and return a list of single values of ZITEM.
    I'm assuming making ZGROUP a compounding infoobject of ZITEM would solve the issue in query designer because I could restrict on ZGROUP.  I have not used this approach because it would require modifying standard extractors.
    Another option I explored was to create an Infoset between my InfoCube and the DSO which has ZITEM & ZGROUP.  Unfortunately my InfoCube has NonCulm. Key Figures and therefore cannot be used in an infoset.
    Does anyone know how to create a multi-single value customer exit or have any ideas on how to solve this problem?
    Thanks!

    I was able to create a customer exit which performed multi-single values.
    Psuedocode:
    1) Create Internal Table and populate it with DSO data for Group and Item
    2) In Customer Exit, loop through internal table for the group you want
    3) In loop, append l_s_range to e_t_range (this will add multi-single values)
    WHEN 'ZCX_FLWGRP60'.
        IF I_STEP = 2.
          l_s_range-sign = 'I'.
          l_s_range-opt = 'EQ'.
          "get multi single values for flow types
          LOOP AT l_t_flwgrp INTO l_s_flwgrp
            WHERE /BIC/ZFLW_TP_G = '60'.
            l_s_range-low = l_s_flwgrp-FS_FLW_TP.
            append l_s_range TO e_t_range.
          ENDLOOP.

  • SEM BCS - Complex Selection vs Single Value in Validation Rule

    Hi,
    in validation rule, after "create selection condition" , I add "ITEM" Characteristic.
    I need to enter item from 10000000 to 19999999 so I change the selection options  <b>from single value to complex selection</b>. But no place to enter the interval, it only show up the field for enter single value.
    What should i do?
    Thanks.

    Actually, since of 'intuitive design' of SAP ;=)))) newbies, when they arrive to creation/editing of selection condition, don't expect that along with the possibility of entering one single value in 'Selection Condition', a new subframe 'Single Selection' is appeared below the selection condition (in case of complex selection). It's simply not seen. You have to scroll the frame down to see it. Here you have a lot of possibilities to choose restrictions: ranges, hierarchy nodes etc.

  • BPS: Possible to limit a variable to a single value?

    Hello,
    I have a BPS variable which is available in the planning folders so the user can change the value himself.
    For a planning layout, one and only one value is required, as the system otherwise wouldn't know which value to use when saving data. It is possible though for the user to select both a mix of values and ranges. I see the lowest value is always used. Consequently this is not technically a problem.
    I would like to limit the variable to a single value only, in order to not confuse the users. Is this possible?
    Best regards,

    The following link tells you about the variable type ;

    1. create variables with single values
    2.while creating variable tick the setting 'Restriction of values required by user'
    I think that will suffice your requirement .

  • Multiple single values variables in cockpit not possible ??

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create a variable in SEM-CPM-MC, but no matter what I do, I'm only able to create a runtime variable with selection type P - Variable for single value. I can select the other values, but when I save the variable, SAP automatically corrects it to P - Singe value again. I can also create a design variable with the other types, but not a runtime variable. How do I create a variable for which you can enter an interval/multiple single values?
    In the documentation it also says, that you should be able to create variables on a frame level. I don't see any button where I can create a variable on a frame level. I've done exactly as it says on help.sap.com, but I don't have a button to create a new variable on a frame level. How do I do that?
    Any help is appreciated and will be rewarded generously :o)
    Thanks,
    ramesh

    Hi Goutham R,
    As of 4.0. it was by a limitation.
    I have read some where that some users were able to meet the requirement by putting a semi colon at the end of each value in a excel and feeding it to the prompt but seems like you have already tried that.
    Please see if you put a vote here in this link:
    Selection option variable not behaving the same way in WebI : View Idea
    But I think this requirement can be met in Analysis edition for OLAP.

  • Convert Values to Single Value in Universe Object

    Hi,
    Our environment is BO 3.1 and all universes are on top of SAP BI 7.0.
    How do we convert the values coming from a dimension to a single value?
    I have created an object as "Active" by copying the existing "E01 Cutomer key" and added a Where clause in the object.
    Select -
    [ZEU_KUNNR].[LEVEL01].[[2ZEU_KUNNR]].[Value]
    Where -
    <FILTER KEY="[ZEU_KUNNR].[LEVEL01].[[2ZEU_KUNNR]].[Value]">
    <CONDITION OPERATORCONDITION="InList">
    <CONSTANT CAPTION='16278'/><CONSTANT CAPTION='16279'/>
    </CONDITION>
    </FILTER>
    When I drag the above object Active (dimension) to the result object; Web I report works fine and retrieve only the values for - 16278 and 16279. But my requirement is to get the value as "Active" instead of filter values.
    For eg.,
    Active     Subtotal2
    =================
    16278       $100
    16279       $400
    Instead of above we need to get like this:
    Active     Subtotal2
    =================
    Active     $500
    Is this possible in Universe? Do we have any MDX function/syntax to convert the values in Universe?
    Thanks
    Jai
    Edited by: Jai on Sep 28, 2009 4:21 PM

    Hi,
    The best way to obtain your result would be to create a caluclated measure like this:
    <EXPRESSION> IIF(  [ZEU_KUNNR].currentmember.properties.("[2ZEU_KUNNR]") = "16278", "Active",
    IIF(  [ZEU_KUNNR].currentmember.properties.("[2ZEU_KUNNR]") = "16279", "Active",""),"")</EXPRESSION>
    Then add the where clause you defined in the new calculated measure.
    Unfortunately, all calculated measures and calculated members MUST return a numeric value with SAP MDX. In your case you want to return "Active" that is string.
    This expression works fine with Microsoft Analysis Services.
    So I recommend that you keep the object you defined and create a Web Intelligence formula that will group the 2 values in a single value "Active".

  • How to select all single values in the header area

    Dear Experts
    I got a request that the user wants to select a single value or all single values in the header area. E.g. if the values from characteristic master data are A, B, C and D, the selection can be one of these values or all of them. With the standard BPS configuration, due to the unique combination in the header area, selection of  'All' single values is not possible. Is there a way to select all single values in the header area?
    Thanks, Jessica

    Hi Jessica,
    Here is a solution where you need not to change your planning layout or to create a new variable or any exit function.
    Step 1 - Maintain master data value 'ALL' in the required characteristic.
    Step 2 - Create a copy function to copy all the required data records to 'ALL'. you can use standard copy function where you have to include only this characteristic in the fields to be change.
    Copy -
    From = all values (A,B,C,D etc)
    To = "ALL".
    Step 3 - Call this function on layout opening. you can include it in the planning folder and change the function attribute to call it on layout opening.
    Step 4 - Create a standard Delete function. you have to call this function on save operation. In this function, you have to delete all data records present in the buffer where required char contains 'ALL' value.
    This approach can impact the performance of the planning application. It depends on the number of data records you are dealing with. Standard Copy and Delete functions are pretty fast in nature.
    I hope it will help you. please let me know if you need more inputs.

    Hi SDN,
    Is it possible to lock and unlock a standard transaction( for eg VA02 ) through my program?( i am creating a customized version of standard transaction ) I want to lock the transaction for my user-id and then i will update the values in that transaction and finally i will unlock it.
    I got the FM for locking at the database level.is there is any FM to lock and unlock the transaction?

    Hi,
    It may not be the best way, but maybe you could use the functionality behind transaction code SM01. Here you can lock/unlock the transaction code. If you look at the program, all it is really doing is updating table TSTC field CINFO. CINFO = 80 when unlocked, CINFO = A0 when locked. You could just update the field accordingly and then call this function module right after.
    * For locking
    CALL FUNCTION 'RSAU_WRITE_SM01_LOG'
      EXPORTING
        TCODE = TSTC-TCODE
        LOCK = 'X'.
    * For unlocking
    CALL FUNCTION 'RSAU_WRITE_SM01_LOG'
      EXPORTING
        TCODE = TSTC-TCODE
        UNLOCK = 'X'.

  • Calculate single value as ranked number function does not apply in CR

    Hi everybody,
    I built up a query with the SAP BEx Query designer. For one key figure I enabled the function "Calculate single values" as ranked list. So the query has the following result.
    Instead of...
    Score
    1220
    2032
    2390
    2389
    ...I got...
    Score
    1
    2
    4
    3
    Unfortunately when importing the query to Crystal Reports Crystal is just importing the key figure itself - the ranked list does not exist... so the output is the same as in the first example.
    I tried to rebuild the formula with crystal means using the Rank function but I failed...
    Can anybody provide a workaround for me?
    Is there another way as using the formula workbench?
    Best regards,
    Sebastian

    Hi Ingo and everybody,
    I used now the following function using the Nth largest function:
    If nthlargest(1, {TECHNAME_OF_QUERY.[Measures]-[9XU9YT56S6PRL7DR80I3DK9RA]})
       = {TECHNAME_OF_QUERY.[Measures]-[9XU9YT56S6PRL7DR80I3DK9RA]} then "1"
    else if nthlargest(2, {TECHNAME_OF_QUERY.[Measures]-[9XU9YT56S6PRL7DR80I3DK9RA]})
       = {TECHNAME_OF_QUERY.[Measures]-[9XU9YT56S6PRL7DR80I3DK9RA]} then "2"
    else if nthlargest(3, {TECHNAME_OF_QUERY.[Measures]-[9XU9YT56S6PRL7DR80I3DK9RA]})
       = {TECHNAME_OF_QUERY.[Measures]-[9XU9YT56S6PRL7DR80I3DK9RA]} then "3"
    else if nthlargest(4, {TECHNAME_OF_QUERY.[Measures]-[9XU9YT56S6PRL7DR80I3DK9RA]})
       = {TECHNAME_OF_QUERY.[Measures]-[9XU9YT56S6PRL7DR80I3DK9RA]} then "4"
    else if nthlargest(20, {TECHNAME_OF_QUERY.[Measures]-[9XU9YT56S6PRL7DR80I3DK9RA]})
       = {TECHNAME_OF_QUERY.[Measures]-[9XU9YT56S6PRL7DR80I3DK9RA]} then "20"
    The formula is not very handsome and will fail, if the number of records exceeds...
    Are there any alternatives?
    And: Is there a possibility to change the field name, because those clumsy field names cause that the whole formula is almost unreadable. Or is the only way to build subreports?
    Regards,
    Sebastian
