Is pixel bender support GPU acceleration in Flash Player?

I know in the earily version of flash player 10, pixel bender is not support GPU acceleration in FP, but now the latest fp is 10.3, is this GPU feature implemented in the latest flash player? appreciate anybody could give me a clue.

Latest FP (10.3) is not supporting Pixel Bender on GPU yet.  But, it's still on our roadmap.
Thanks,

  • State of GPU acceleration in Flash Player 11

    I am confused about the current requirements to get hardware accelerated flash content.
    I often heard complaints that my Flash games would not run as smoothly under some circumstances, especially on OSX Lion (I used wmode=direct for a smooth scrolling).
    While I was trying to get around this I upgraded to Flash Player 11 on my Alienware m11x and suddenly lost hardware acceleration for my Intel GMA 4500HD which is part of the integrated hybrid graphics. When I switch over to GeForce everything is fine.
    Tested with all releases and Betas of Flash Player 11. Browers tested: Firefox 8, Chrome 15, Internet Explorer 9. OS: Windows 7 64-Bit
    Now to use Flash without reduced battery life I have to revert back to Flash Player 10.3.
    Then I learned about the official Stage3D blacklist/requirements and noticed that my chipset is supported but the driver version is not. It's a few versions older (8.15.10.1994) than the supported version and probably won't get updated since it's part of Dell's hybrid driver.
    So are the Stage3D requirements also the requirements to get any hardware acceleration in Flash now?

    Thank you very much for your honest answer. I already knew that tech note, but I think it is misleading and suggests that you only need those requirements for Stage3D content.
    Also, I have to note that I am deeply worried by this decission. All Linux, probably many notebook/netbook and shuttle pc users are now either stuck with flash player 10 or just update and wonder why their Youtube playback suddenly looks and performs worse, especially since so many people are biased against the Flash Player these days.
    Sure, it's a good idea to keep your drivers up to date, but I don't see why my GMA driver is blacklisted just because of it's version number and I absolutely have no control to even override it on my own risk (despite the fact that everything works fine with flash player 10.3).  Sadly some mobile chipsets like mine have special driver sets and cannot use the official drivers.
    So as a flash developer I am concerned that it just unnecessarily limits the the appeal to the mainstream audience, since most of my clients are not really into 3D game browser expierences.
    Thanks again for the answer,

  • Unpredicted image distortion and Pixel Bender support

    Hi!
    I'm running my very simple Pixel Bender filter that replaces colors around the image (inverts pixels). Running on various graphic cards I got sometimes unpredictable results (FP10, Flash), when running this filter on a big number of images (image sizes are 1000x200 pixels).
    Images got distorted - the example is included.
    I can't find the exact case when it happens, but I think it may somehow connected with GPU drivers. Sometimes I got a correct image, and sometimes not on the same graphic card.
    Is there a way to force a filter to use CPU instead of GPU? And is there a function in Flex to detect if the Pixel Bender is supported on a current graphic card and turn it off?

    Sorry, I was a bit wrong describing what's happening. I'm running an AIR application (on Windows).
    I'm running a filter on BitmapData with applyFilter (checking if it is not null, before the run). The image size is about 1000x200 or 2000x200. There are about 300 images which are processed in a loop. Here's a piece of my code:
                    var invertColorShader:Shader = new Shader(new InvertColorKernel() );
                    var invertColorFilter:ShaderFilter = new ShaderFilter( invertColorShader );
                    var point: Point = new Point(0,0);
                    for (var i:Number=0;i<_imagesArrayCollection.source.length;i++)
                            bitmapData = (_imagesArrayCollection.source[i].imageBitmap as Bitmap).bitmapData;
                            if (bitmapData != null && bitmapData.width>0)
                                bitmapData.applyFilter(bitmapData, rect, point, invertColorFilter);
    Some times people running my application experience the unpredicted images distortions I have shown above. The configurations range from desktop computers to notebooks , and the above behaviour is random, still cannot find the exact case.
    Is there a way in AIR to find if Pixel Bender uses GPU or CPU and force it to switch?

  • Hardware acceleration with Flash Player 10

    I came across an article on potential hardware acceleration enhancements in Flash Player 10:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/logged_in/jchurch_flashplayer10.html
    But I was wondering how to take advantage of this?  Here is the snippet from the article which seemed most promising, however when I set the wmode in the html template, I can't see any changes to my application so I'm guessing there must be more to it:
    Quote:
    In Flash Player 9 Update 3, the first hardware acceleration capabilities were added to Flash Player through hardware-scaled full screen. In Flash Player 10, the same performance gains will be delivered to the browser window through new hardware-based WMODE HTML parameters. The direct WMODE will use your video card to paint pixels to the screen as fast as possible while freeing up your CPU to work on other tasks. The GPU mode works with newer video cards to do much more of the work of transformation and compositing on the video card.
    How can this be achieved?

    hello everybody
    There is on thing I need to know so much ..
    how flash player save settings of hardware acceleration in windows ?
    i.e : when I enable/disable hardware acceleration from flash player 10 ....
    is flash player use registry to do that by saving values and changing them each enable/disable
    or there is another way ???
    I'm sorry if my question is too long but I need the answer so much
    and thanks for all

  • How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?

    How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?
    I have a few hundred computers running Adobe Flash Player.
    The operation system is Windows XP.
    They are Compaq 6005 desktop PC’s, with an inbuilt ATI radeon HD 4200 video card.
    We have a persistent issue where viewing a flash video (e.g. something on youtube) causes the video card driver to crash.  You are left with no video signal to the monitor.  Audio continues and the computer still responds to commands. This only happens when watching flash video.
    We have tried:
    Updating flash plugin (numerous versions)
    Updating the video card drivers (we have tried the last three video card driver versions, including the HP drivers and ATI drivers)
    Updating the browsers (this problem happens with IE8/9 and Firefox10/11/12)
    There seems to be two ways to work round this issue.  One is to disable the video acceleration in the ‘troubleshoot’ section in the advanced part of the display settings area in windows.  The other way is to start a flash video, right click, go to ‘settings’ and untick the box marked ‘Enable Hardware Acceleration’.
    Doing either of these things allows the user to view flash videos with no apparent issues.
    Is there a way to disable the hardware acceleration in Flash without visiting the PC?  Perhaps an undocumented option in the mms.cfg file? I understand that you can use an option to skip the video card check, and so force hardware acceleration on, can you do the opposite?
    Thanks in advance
    Daniel.

    Hi.
    I have had over 200 views, and no suggestions as to how this could be fixed.
    I have also posted in the general flash forum, that thread has fewer views.
    If I should put this question in a different forum please let me know which one.
    If what I am asking is not possible is there a mechanism for escalating this issue or requesting a feature for the next version of flash?
    Thanks.

  • GPU Acceleration in Flash

    Hi all,
      This is my first post here so if this is the wrong place please excuse the post and move it to the appropriate forum.  I'm working for a company who is using flash to play HD media.  Right now, the systems they are having to buy to play the media conent must have relatively decent CPUs in them due to flash relying mostly on the CPU.  With the flash 10.1 beta there is now obviously a focus on GPU acceleration and we are quite excited about this as it could considerably drop the cost of each of our hardware units.  We have tried some tests thus far however it appears that our flvs are not taking advantage of the GPU acceleration.  The only way I know how to test this is by enabling/disabling the hardware acceleration from the settings menu in flash and then restart the browser to be sure the setting has changed.  I am assuming that our flv is perhaps not encoded in a format that flash will be able to use hardware acceleration for however I am not completely sure of this.  The media encoding is not part of my job on this project howeve I am tasked with the testing of the flv's on carious hardware.  Is there a specific codec that needs to be used or a way of encoding the flv so that flash player 10.1 beta can play the video with hardware acceleration?
      Thanks for your response.  Again as mentioned, I don't know the ins and outs of the encoding process that is currrently being used, but I will pass any infomation gathered here onto our media guys and developers.  I do know that using the flash 10.1 beta on youtube I can play 1080p videos fullscreen using nVidia GPU and an intel atom cpu without any issues with the hardware acceleration on.  WIthout it, the cpu hits 90+% and the video is way to choppy to be of use so hardware acceleration is definitely working there.
    Terry

    Flash Player 10.1 has its own forum:  http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/flashplayer10/flashplayer10
    Regarding your question, the easiest thing to do is host an example stream somewhere using that encoding.  It can be a test pattern if you wish, content doesn't matter, just the encoding.    The most common mistake is to use interlaced encoding.  It must be progressive, interlaced will always default to SW decoding.   Its much more inefficient than progressive encoding for SW playback as well.  Its always a bad idea to use interlaced.    Apart from that, there are some harder to describe encoding options that can disable HW decoding.  We would need to see an example encoded stream to tell you what option is defaulting you to software.
    Are you only testing on nVidia ION gpus?   If so, there is a known limitation of that gpu that certain unusual video widths (such as 864) are not supported for HW decode.
    If you are testing on other machines, you might also want to make sure the GPUs and GPU drivers you are testing with are supported.   Apart from nVidia gpus, you will need to update your video drivers to enable HW acceleration.    You can get more details in the release notes for the 10.1 beta: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/releasenotes.pdf    You can find out what card and driver version# you have installed by running "dxdiag.exe" from the windows start program ui, or the DOS command line.   Check the "display" tab in the application that starts up.

  • What is a great video card that supports GPU acceleration?

    A customer of mine wants to speed up his Adobe Lightroom 6 setup.  He has various SSD's, and is ready to upgrade his graphics card to take advantage of the GPU acceleration found in LR 6.  I was wondering if there was an up to date list of suggested, or sought after LR video cards?
    Thanks!

    On my system with an an i7-860 cpu and Nvidia Quadro 600 graphics card there's no benefit from LR CC GPU support. In fact when browsing image files in the Develop module there is an additional `1.5 to 2 sec. delay before the image becomes fully sharp. I suspect my i7 860 Quad Core processor is actually faster than my Quadro 600 GPU for updating the image previews, so I have it disabled. In addition there have been numerous reports form people with AMD GPU based graphics cards due to driver incompatibility.
    My best suggestion is to get the highest performance Nvidia graphics card the customer can afford. If the customer also uses PS and a 30 bit (10 bit/color) monitor you will need an Nvidia Quadro model card. AMD FIrePro supports 30 bit color, but as mentioned many users currently have driver compatibility issues with LR CC. PassMark is a good site for benchmark comparison:
    PassMark Software - Video Card (GPU) Benchmark Charts
    If the card is strictly for speeding up LR CC I'd hold off for a while until the dust settles.

  • GPU Acceleration and Flash 10.1

    Hello,
    I have just recently upgraded to Flash 10.1 release 10.1.53.64. The main problem I am experiencing at the moment is extremely high CPU usage while playing 720p videos with flash. It seems that Flash is not utilizing my GPU as, when the same video is played through WMP plugin for Firefox, CPU utilization is only 50%-60% instead of the 87%+. Nvidia claims that my graphics card should be supported by Flash yet I am experiencing framerates of only 9-10.
    My System Specifications:
    Windows XP SP3 Professional Edition 32bit
    Firefox 3.6 & Chrome 32 bit
    Pentium 4 2.93Ghz
    2Gb DDR memory
    Nvidia 8400gs (Latest Drivers installed)  <- The Graphics Card uses PCI interface.
    A picture displaying my problem:

    If someone could please assist me with the issue I would greatly appreciate it.

    I have the same problem here with windows xp, 8400gs, flash player 10.1, and the driver was installed sometime last month after the release of 10.1 player, which I think should be good enough.
    Hope to get some hints here.

    Whenever I click on any vedio on youtube it always ask me to get the latest version of flash player. Link for latest version also provided in vedio screen. several times I tried after remoing and reinstalling of latest version of flash player but it doesn't work so far.

    If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 4.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
    and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    2. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
    from the contextual menu. A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
    You may be prompted for your login password.
    3. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
    Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
    Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    4. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security

    Who should we contact exactly? Could we have an address? What kind of beer do they like? :-)
    PB2D GPU Flash acceleration makes PB2D VERY VERY valuable to my new company. I have two important full screen paleo education map apps in the pipeline ready to go as soon as I can get the framerate up from a couple fps in unaccelerated Flash 10 to nearer the toolkit speeds fully embedded in the Flash runtime. We have plans for several other Flash products showcasing PB2D capabilities centered around advanced Earth and Planetary sciences when we can count on dates for these performance improvements - even if just as alpha/beta products; we'd be able to commit to development.
    Know you guys are busy these days, but GPU acceleration in Flash would put PB2D back on the serious development map for many of us.
    Feel free to forward this to anyone in a position of responsibilty if it is helpful to this cause.

  • GPU Acceleration Not Supported in PS CS4 Standard

    I was led to believe that GPU acceleration features (like smooth zoom and rotate) were supported in the PS CS4 Standard edition. Under GPU Settings, Performance Preferences, it states "No GPU options available with Photoshop Standard". To me this is misleading advertising - I would have considered the Extended version if I had known.
    Maybe this will help others not make the same disappointing assumption I have. I think Adobe should make this clear in the future. It really does make me feel slighted.

    Hi David,
    Unfortunately the wording in the performance preference needs rework. There is already a bug logged, but it was found too late for changes to be made.
    There is no Photoshop Standard, just Photoshop and Photoshop Extended. It also fails to clearly note the condition. I apologize for the confusion it has caused. Photoshop and Photoshop Extended both support GPU acceleration features for supported cards.
    The intention was to communicate that under the current conditions Photoshop can not enable any GL drawing features.
    You can find more information on GPU and Photoshop CS4 in this article:

    Hello,
    Just checking in with the employees at Adobe to see if there are any plans to support the awesome pixel bender technology in the iOS world.

    Sorry we do not discuss future plans on the forums. Contact the AIR or Flash teams and let them know you'd like to see Pixel Bender support in AIR on iOS if that's something that interests you. Best of luck.

  • Pixel Bender Toolkit - Groan!

    It seems to me that the Pixel Bender Toolkit is an unloved piece of software. I Sunday afternoon on a project, pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my filters where behaving oddly.
    This evening, I've realised that the toolkit always to seems to save the PBJ and PBK files to the Adobe/Pixel Bender directory under my documents folder. Even if I open a PBK file from another directory, toolkit saves in its default directory. It's a proper return to the 1980's where I have to reset the directory path whenever I save or export a filter.
    While I'm at it, can we have better Pixel Bender support in Flash Player? Arrays and functions would be nice.

    Please post your feature requests on the Pixel Bender Wishlist thread at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/787658?tstart=0. As for the Flash Player request, you will need to direct this request to the Flash Player team. I suggest that you post this request on the Flash Player forum. Best of luck.
