Is SB Live! 1024 Digital Sound Card the same as SB Live, 24b

Okay, I truly am a newbie and know less than mothing about?sound cards except that they are great when they work, but terrible when they don't. I purchased this Dell Dimension 8200 about fi've years ago. It has .5 GB PC800 RDRAM and has been really trouble-free for the most part, or as long as i keep my hands ooutside the case. I try to keep my software up-to-date, within reason. I have had very little trouble with this machine. Having said that, about Tuesday, I decided to upgrade to Vista Business from Xp Pro. I followed all suggested steps as advised by the "Microsoft Upgrade Advisor."? After about 30 hours of frustration, I finally have it going and am reasonably certain that I will eventually be able to recover most of the files lost during the "upgrade "? when it did a? full install instead of the supposed upgrade. I can afford to take my time with the files, but the lack of a fuctioning sound card is driving me crazy. Tha drivers I had been using, which were the originals I think, as I do not recall having updating them, do not work. In fact, I get a "blue screen" and my computer locks up, requiring a "Safe" start to disable the Sound card, at which time it will start normally until I enable and we start over again. I need to find the proper driver for my card, but every driver I have found?is not accepted as a driver for my card when I attempt to install it's. I can shut down and pull the card to get any information available, if I know what is needed. Thanks in advance and have a great day!

No, it isn't.
Hmm... check the model from the sticker in card w/ long serisl number as like MCT43000464645029474 where the bolded part of number is the model.
After this, just check the model name
http://dmzweb4.europe.creative.com/wwenglish/general/Products_List_Audio.htm
If there is no sticker available then
- http://us.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=2&sid=6843
and then afte the model is known, either download the driver package from
Creative Support: Downloads - http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/
or
the whole CD as an image file from BadBoys's collection - http://badboy.filefront.com/

    I doubt that you can. Doesn't the Sound prefpane require you to select just one output device?

  • OSS doesn't play more than 1 sound at the same time [SOLVED]

    Hello,
    I use OSS to replace ALSA, it used to work properly here. Today I noticed that I can't play more than one sound at the same time, something which I used to be able to do.
    Also, ossxmix doesn't operate properly (I can't control the volume of a specific program).
    Looks like a permissions issue, because /dev/dsp and /dev/oss are created as root and other users get Permission Denied.
    Any ideas how to fix it? My sound card is an AC'97 onboard.
    Thanks!
    EDIT: Solved by pacman -R oss, rm -rf /usr/lib/oss then pacman -S oss. Seems to have worked.

    Hello Angela,
    Have you tried resetting the iPod yet to see if that makes a difference?  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
    If that doesn't work, a restore of the iPod via iTunes may be in order.

  • Can't we listen to 48KHZ and 96 KHZ sounds at the same time?

    I have bought E-mu 1212M card. My problem is : I cannot listen to windows sounds or any sound file at 48KHZ when I am at other internal frequencies.
    Forexample , when I switch to 96KHZ with Patchmix dsp all the sounds of windows ( media players, applications...) muted and I can only hear 96KHZ applications. So I can use DAW programs at 96KHZ but cannot use other programs to listen to sound files which are usually 44.1 or 48KHZ. I cannot choose them to integrate DAW because of silence.
    I want to hear all the sound at the same time. I could do this with my all sound card before. Why can't I use all the sort of sounds ?

    Select the music play list you want to listen to and start it playing. Go back to the home screen and start the app you want to use, music will stop. Press the home button two time quickly and it will bring up a simple control for controling the music. This works for me with all of the apps I have purchased including games. Just a note you can pull up the same music control if the iPod is a sleep and locked by pressing the button three times quickly.

  • Load another sound in the same sound object

    Hi,
    I am loading a sound like this:
    public var smallSound:Sound = new Sound();
    public var trans1:SoundTransform = new SoundTransform(1, 0);
    public var channel:SoundChannel = new SoundChannel();
    smallSound.load(new URLRequest("firsttrack.mp3"));
    channel=smallSound.play(0,1,trans1);
    When an event occurs (button click actually) I would like to stop playing the first sound and playing another sound in the same object. So I try doing this:
    smallSound.load(new URLRequest("secondtrack.mp3"));
    channel=smallSound.play(0,1,trans1);
    but it does not work. The first sound keeps playing. I havent understood something probably.. Can someone help me ??

    ok, i solved my problem. It works like:
    channel.stop();
    smallSound = new Sound;
    smallSound.load(new URLRequest("secondtrack.mp3"));
    channel = new SoundChannel;
    channel=smallSound.play(0,1,trans1);

  • AirPlay Mirroring and Output via Digital Adapter at the same time

    Hello,
    Is it possible to use AirPlay Mirroring to an apple tv and the digital Adapter at the same time?
    We want to get the Screen on a beamer and a tv at the same moment.
    If this isn't possible are there any chances to get AirPlay mirroring working on two Apple TVs at the same time?
    We are using the newest iPad Air
    Greets

    Unfortunately not. One output is supported at a time. But perhaps you can use some sort of an HDMI signal splitter? I've not tried it, and perhaps it won't work at all, but you might try outputing directly to a splitter that then can be connected to both a TV and beamer.

  • Firefox and ut2004 sounds at the same time

    I can't hear ut2004's sounds when firefox is running.
    I found out it is happening because /dev/dsp is busy (im using alsa).
    Is there anyway to hear sounds from both apps at the same time?
    (I have read that there is a way to have multiple apps use sounds on the same machine, but I have no idea how to do this)
    Sorry for my English.
    Thanks.

    Strange... the only problem I've had with sounds is when one program is using oss, and the rest are silent. If you're using alsa, you can work around the issue by installing alsa-oss, and starting the oss program with alsa-oss "pathtoexecutible"

  • Digital input and digital output at the same time

    Hi all
    I have a PCI-6503 board. I have done 2 task that run simultaneously: the first one is port0_16 output and the second one is port2 input.
    I get sometimes (not every times...this is strange...) error-200587 saying:
    'Requested operation could not be performed, because the specified digital lines are either reserved or the device is not present in NI-DAQmx.
    It is possible that these lines are reserved by another task, the device is being used through the Traditional NI-DAQ interface, or the device is being reset. You might also get the error if the specified resource is currently in use by LabVIEW network variables bound to the DAQ Channel, or if the DAQ Channel is being used in any OPC Client software.
    If you are using these lines with another task, wait for the task to complete.  If you are using the device through the Traditional NI-DAQ interface, and you want to use it with NI-DAQmx, reset (initialize) the device using the Traditional NI-DAQ interface. If you are resetting the device, wait for the reset to finish.'
    In the attached VI i have recreated the basic structure of my real VI (the error is present even here of course...).
    How can i do?
    I want to have both digital input and digital output with the same PCI-6503 every single cycle... Is it possible?
    Please help me!!!
    Kind regards.

    Hello Maverick,
    Did you have any luck with the example Raven sent you?
    In Raven's example, it properly passes the DAQmx task from one SubVI to another to avoid having to open the task again. These errors are likely to occur when you have multiple DAQmx calls in a VI that call the same task again without clearing the previously opened task. If at any given time you try to open a task that already is being used, you might receive an error "resource is reserved"... similar to your original example.

  • Acquire Analog and Digital inputs at the same time with 6025E card

    I have 6025E DAQ card, all the analog channels are used

    I suggest you search the examples that ship with LV
    Digital
    Find Examples>>>Hardware Input and Output>>>Digital Input and Output>>>8255
    for doing each type of I/O seperately.
    When you have found two examples. Just try to run the two at the rate use need in your final app.
    Post follow-ups Q's here. I am not personally familiar with that deveice so I can not speak from experience.
    I would generally expect that if you sample rate is low (i.e. <10Hz) you maybe happy with the results. If you want to run faster or have the PC do something else at the same time, the timing of the signals form the DIO lines may be suspect.
    So...
    It depends.

    If you want to use OS X (an iMac hasn't got iOS) and Windows at the same time, Parallels or VMware Fusion are the only options.
    However, there's an option that you may consider. First, install Windows with Boot Camp onto the hard drive of your computer, and then, when you want to run OS X and Windows at the same time, start in OS X, open VMware Fusion, and use the feature to run your Boot Camp volume onto a virtual machine. That's an useful VMware Fusion that allows you to have Windows installed with Boot Camp to get the maximum performance, but you can also run this Windows copy into OS X without having to restart

  • [Solved] Multiple sounds at the same time

    Hello!
    I've just received my new Creative X-Fi Titanium since I was in need of an optical in socket and have spent a while trying to get it to work to my liking.
    I read through the ALSA wiki, read countless posts on the forums such as this one http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=702994, tried several .asoundrc files and of course read the related arch wiki pages without much success.
    Everything is upmixed properly to 5.1 output but I still can't play two sounds at once - with one odd exception:
    When I have mpd playing and start a youtube video, sound will play but it will only output through the 2 front speakers and I can pause and unpause mpd normally, sound will return.
    When I pause mpd and play a youtube video, it gets upmixed properly but mpd returns "error: problems opening sound device".
    Mplayer returns [AO_ALSA] alsa-lib: pcm_hw.c:1291:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p failed: Invalid argument and [AO_ALSA] alsa-lib: pcm_dmix.c:1060:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave.
    Heroes of Newerth returns the same: ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1060:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave.

    Good. So file the damned bug report against mpd. Right now would be a good time.
    eyescream wrote:but flash completely blocks sound off for other things.
    See thread. Prove to me that flash/firefox is blocking:
    fuser -v /dev/snd/* /dev/dsp*
    eyescream wrote:The problem now is that mpd only outputs through my front speakers, so it isn't being upmixed anymore.
    Forget about upmixing for the moment, until you've got the ALSA/OSS conflict solved.
    Edit: Use e.g.:
    audio_output {
    type "alsa"
    name "Sound Card"
    options "dev=dmixer"
    device "headphones"
    In /etc/mpd.conf or ~/.mpdconf, where the device string matches an ALSA pcm entry.
    eyescream wrote:What do you mean by not renaming "default" exactly?
    This, of course, from your own ~/.asoundrc
    # change default device:
    pcm.!default {
         type plug
         slave {
        pcm "duplex"
    Comment that section out, for the time being.

  • Macbook Pro: Play and record sound at the same time

    Greetings everyone,
    My brother and I have are going to switch go a mac, preferebly to a macbook pro. we used windows so far, but the frustration has grown extremely huge, so it's time to throw off this junk.
    We've been working with sound a lot and many times we recorded any sound which played through the computer: that means sound and music from dvds and games or other sources, we couldn't get anywhere else. What we did is simply letting the game or dvd play and record the audio at the same time.
    I've testet this functionality in windows via bootcamp on a macbook of friend of mine, but NOT the macbook pro version. It's wasn't really that good as I thought. Sound quality was below what I'd expect.
    So here are my questions:
    - Does the macbook pro have a better sound card, which enables simultaneos play + record?
    - Is good record quality bound to a software I need to use?
    Thanks for your replies.

    Apple don't have separate "sound cards" like PC's , Martin. The necessary hardware is proprietary , and built into the logic boards.
    Both of them have high quality combined optical digital input and audio line in, and combined optical digital output and audio line out. You can also attach various USB or firewire audio input and output devices if you wish. So as far as 'quality" goes, it depends what you are playing them through more than anything else. The inherent audio abilities of both are pretty danged good when using Mac specific software. That is why the music industry love 'em!
    Or are you just talking about sound quality through the built in speakers, which are, of course severely limited by the amount of space available, though I've heard far worse from many PC notebooks!?
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Headphones and Speakers playing sound at the same time - Windows 7

    I've had this problem, and I fixed it.
    What I did:
    1. Right-click on audio/sound control on taskbar
    2. Select Playback devices
    3. Disable Independent Headphones
    Turns out, this is set as your "default communications device"
    Even though your speakers & Headphones is set as "default device"

    I originally posted in another posting, didn't realize this was posted twice. In case, you didn't realize you posted twice,I'll copy my reply in both messages.
    The sound card on the macbook has a combined optical digital audio output/headphone out (minijack). So sound is being piped out both sound outputs in OSX and XP.
    The difference comes in because XP and the windows sound drivers for that card, do not know how to handle dual digital audio outputs and instead of shutting down the internal digital speakers(on our Macbook)when say your headphones are plugged in, windows just leaves both digital outputs open.
    To resolve this issue, contact Apple or the soundcard vendor to obtain a Windows XP driver that supports digital output on the dual-mode analog/digital capable sound card.
    To work around this issue, use analog speakers or headphones.
    Hope this Helps!

  • Programmatic Control of X-FI ??? // Two Creative Sound Cards on Same PC ???

    The pc about below is currently running WinXP, but I plan to replace it with a Vista based machine in early?200.
    1] Can someone please point me in the right directions? I would like to use something like an API or some other interface method to control the volume level of the X-FI usb device. Hopefully to be able to control the volume of?each of the 5 channels independently as well as the master volume. In other words,?have a dotNET program (or VB script, etc etc) that will interface with the X-FI via something running on the same pc. I would prefer it to interface with one of the SoundBlaster or Creative softwares so as to not reinvent any wheels, but that is an option. The simpler the better. I don't need anything fancy and probably just the controlling the volume?levels will work fine.
    Alternately, it might be possible to control the X-FI with an IR remote, but I am not aware of IR functionality in? the X-FI.
    2] I am also wondering: How do I run two different Creative sound cards on the same pc without issues? The rational for this is that I want to improve the sound quality of our home theater pc to 7. Creative quality level, but I need the X-FI to control audio for the home automation software that runs on the same pc. The home automation software generates Text To Speech audio which does not need to flow through the high quality Creative sound card. I was hoping to use the X-FI in a simple mode to route the TTS speech audio out to 4 or 5 sets of speakers as monaural voice. During different occupancy times and night time, its very useful to lower the volume level (especially upstairs when sleeping).
    I have a hunch the X-FI would be a truly awesome device to use for this purpose. There are many other people who would like to do this same thing. It would be nice to have a device like the X-FI that is widely available.
    Thanks much for any and all help. Sorry if this is so 'newbie', but I just don;t know how to start.
