Is the curve 8520 WAP enabled?

Hello
Is the curve 8520 WAP enabled?
What i mean is...I have just changed from contract Tmobile to PAYG Orange (dolphin) therefore, free internet. I have wifi at home and it connects to that fine. I was able to go online without wifi when I was on contract Tmobile, but now, it just keeps asking for wifi connection when i'm out and trying to browse... What I want is to know if it is WAP enabled? Can i get the internet on it without using wifi. You know, when i'm out and about, now i'm on PAYG? And, if so, how?
Sorry if this is really simple. I'm quite new to all this. >.<

Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
Remove the battery
Wait 15 minutes
Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.

Memory clean up problem with the curve 8520.

I bought a blackberry curve 8520 smartphone outside india was working on some settings today after which i locked my phone as usual. However, there was message which said 'automatic memory cleanup in progress. kindly wait for a few minutes.' Well i have waited for about 6 hours now but the device is still hung!!! All i can see is a white screen with a small clock like thing in the middle. I have also taken out the battery and SIM card twice and connected it to the laptop and tried using desktop manager but nothing has helped! the phone keeps going off and a red light comes on but there seems to be nothing else happening! guide me to restore it to normal

Youy say you locked it, was it with a password?
If it is a password did you think it was numbers and not letters? Remember you have to hold alt key for numbers. The PIN on the box is a ID for the device. It has nothing to do with a device password. Just like a MAC address on a network card.

Problem with the curve 8520

My phone's battery died and now won't turn back on, instead the red light turns on and then nothing happens. I have taken the battery out a number of times. Now the phone has been on charge for 4 hours and nothing is happening except for the red light turning on. Do you know what is happening to it, or more importantly, how do i fix it?

Interested in the Blackberry Curve 8520.

Hello, I'm interested in getting the Curve 8520, and I was looking for some opinions and some questions to be answered on the device... As I understand the device already is an EDGE enabled, and (being my very first smartphone) I was wondering if I have to pay(or have my account credited) when using EDGE to check my emails or basic web surfing, and also, with EDGE I can access my emails anywhere? also, personal opinions would be nice

Can't get my calendar to Sync. Just got the Curve 8520 last night and it actually seems to have a lot LESS flexibility and options than the 8350. Still getting used to it, but wondering if I made a mistake?
How do I sync my calendar on this new phone?

White Screen on Curve 8520 when battery is fully or almost fully charged

Hello everyone,
This is my first post on Blackberry forums. My first Blackberry was a Curve 8310 and I recently obtained a Curve 8510. Beyond the trackball clogging/ replacement on the 8310, I had no issues at all. On the other hand, my 8520 continues to go "White Screen" even when the battery is charged. I notice it happens more when I am outside. I also experience very quick battery drains with no programs running in the background.
-2 different batteries tested with same problem.
-O/S installed and re-installed. Device wiped and re-installed again.
A battery pull will reboot but sometimes take a few attempts even when battery is 70% plus. I have read all the support forums and have not found a definitive answer or another Blackberry user with the same concern. Please help! Thanks in advance

Hello all again, Here is the answer to my own question regarding "White Screen on Blackberry Curve" It is the battery. I tried two different batteries; one was the original battery that came with the phone and the other came from my previous Blackberry Curve. Both batteries charged quickly and full but did not fully power the Curve which caused the White Screen when many applications were running, outside in the heat, or when the battery reached 70% or less. Bought an OEM Blackberry battery and the Curve 8520 has not had a problem since and the phone can go all day without a plug in or failure. White Screen = get a new battery. Hope this helps someone down the road.

Adding more language menus to a curve 8520

Hello community,
i got a german curve 8520 with a "qwertz Keyboard" which offers me to use either english or german as the language in which appear the menus of the curve 8520. I would like to spanish menus. How can i add spanish as a part of language options?

It all depends on the exact BB OS package you have installed to your BB.
At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for many models. If they include your model, then please use those as reference as you proceed. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:

From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:

Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

Youtube doesn't work - Curve 8520

I could really use your help. Youtube will not work on the Curve 8520. I have downloaded the free app from the app centre and it will not work either. My phones version is v5.0.0.681. Please reply.

Using curve 8520 to upload images to facebook

i am in love with the curve 8520 ease of uploading images to facebook without having to first save the images to pictures
when i receive an e-mail i can simply send the photo to facebook without having to save it to pictures and when i visit a website using the browser i can simply select full image then send simply send he image to facebook.
while researching other models with the intention to upgarde i discovered that the torch 9800 and bold 9900 do not have this feature. what is this feature called ? it is imperative that tis feature is available in the other models that i am considering upgarding to. what model has this feature?

Currently, there is no direct method to upload images programmatically via Adobe Drive. Adobe Drive SDK is used to develop custom connector.
BTW, InDesgin has a function called package(Menu:File->Package). After you open a file with linked files and click menu File->Package, you specify a folder in Adobe Drive disk(Z:), then all related files will be saved to the specified folder and checked in automatically, no matter the original linked files are checked into the server or not. The disadvantage is that it may break your current folder structure. If the package function can meet your requirement, you can refer InDesign SDK from http://www.adobe.com/devnet/indesign/sdk.html to develop a plugin/extension to do this work.

.bbb; "tasks" and "memo"; Curve 8520; Playbook

I have a BlackBerry Curve 8520 and a BlackBerry Playbook.
Short context: Destroyed phone but salvaged the SIM.
Curve was synched to Playbook.
Playbook contains thesis information that I NEED to recover: Specifically, “tasks” and “memo” items.
Used BlackBerry Desktop Manager ver. 7.1 to backup Playbook bbb files.
Ver. 7.* of software will let me specify “organiser” function to isolate the files I need.
Uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled…yadda yadda yadda… various archived versions of the software tried, but none work. Currently have active on PC ver. 5.0 – PC is Windows XP).
Have tried to recover the Playbook data in .bbb file. Have tried BlackBerry Backup Extractor (cannot find *any* files). Have tried “PhoneMiner.” Have tried “Magic Berry.” Have also tried renaming .bbb files as .zip (all “copies” – not the original backup file). 7-Zip recovers .tar files, but all refer to applications.
So…I’m thinking that in the ver. 7.1 of the software, it might not have actually backed up “memo” and “tasks” files. However, ver. 5.0 doesn’t seem to recognise the Playbook. When connecting Playbook to PC, I am prompted to upgrade software from the “Playbook directory.”
So, BB Desktop Manager ver. 5.* doesn’t recognise Playbook. Version 7.* of BB Desktop Manager gives me the error message
But, in so doing, the software (ver. 7.* of BlackBerry Desktop Manager) doesn’t allow me to specify the “memo” and “task” in the “Organiser” tab. Instead, I get an error message, and the prompt to www…/docs for support.
BlueTooth is not yet reconfigured and set up (but I am having a great deal of difficulty setting up the WiFi on my Curve, despite manually entering PSK when autodetect fails) but I am in no rush about this as I have not yet synched Curve with Playbook. I’m afraid that the Curve will overwrite the Playbook (and purge the “memo” and “tasks”).
I am making the assumption that the files are still on Playbook, but I can’t confirm this as a) BB Desktop manager using versions that recognise Playbook will not let me specify “memo” and “tasks” files in the “organiser” function, b) there has been no synch yet with an “empty” Curve. There has been no auto synch either as lauching “memo,” for instance, on Playbook, prompts the search for a connection to the Curve, which it cannot find. Once connection is established, will Curve automatically overwrite the Playbook files effectively deleting “memo” and “tasks” files?
Bottom line is this: I need to get “memo” and “tasks” from Playbook. How can I ensure the retrieval of “memo” and “tasks” files?

Is there a big different between curve 8520 and style ?

Is there a big differnt how to use the Curve 8520 ( my current phone) and the style ?? Is the keybord much smaller and harder to use ? I just love my BB curve compared to other phones ( nokia etc) because of the keybord.. So is it much smaller on the style ? Is the screen much smaller on the style then on the Curve ??

If it is just the physical, form factor you are concerned with, my suggestion would be to check it out at your closest retailer to actually hold it and look at it.

Micro SD or Micro SDHC in Curve 8520?

Hi,
I can't find anywhere which memory card works with the Curve 8520, or what the maximum size suitable is?
I have a found a 8gb Micro SDHC, will this be suitable?

When I brought my Curve 8520 from the Carphone Warehouse it came with a Micro SD.
This will slot in to a gap by the top left of the battery. But im not sure if SDHC will fit. But type it in on Wiki Answers , they should say.

Transitions on blackberry curve 8520

Hi All,
I have an Blackberry Curve 8520 and I would like to know if it has any transitions?
By transitions I mean when you quit an app, it will like zoom out smoothly, i have seen this on my friends curve 9360.
If i quit an app on the curve 8520, it will just close it, so its quite boring

Hello and welcome to the Community!
I also would want to have good screen transitions of course but the phones you mentioned have different UI or User Interfaces. Blackberry Curve 9360 runs on OS7 and the processor is 800Mhz so it may be pretty much smoother than the 8520 that runs on OS5 with 512Mhz processor. You may wanna check for themes available on Appworld for better UI but to set the proper expectations, the phone may not run as smooth as how you want it to be.

Radio on the curve

On my old mobile I could tune in and listen to the local radio as I walked. Is this available on the curve 8520?

You will need to upgrade the device operating system of your BlackBerry to OS7.1 for that feature.
