Is there a best practice for copying or moving tasks between schedules?

Working Project Pro 2010 and PWA/ Server 2010.
What is the best way to copy or move tasks from one project schedule to another, with out using copy and paste?

Hi ShayKm,
Without using copy/paste, a solution is to save the project file containing only the tasks to copy as XML format.
Then use the import wizard (file, open, select XML format and the wizard will launch) which will propose you to merge the XML file to the current (ie new) file or to add it to the current file.
The same process can be done with XLS format, eventhough it is a bit more complicated to map fields.
Then of course VBA could be used to automatize a copy/paste process between files.
Hope this helps.

  • Best practice for copying help...

    I am creating a webhelp project to be accessed from an internal homegrown intranet app(by clicking on a help button within the app it fires up the help screens in a new window).... I published the help out to a network share however now in testing opening this from my app it takes a long time to fire up the new window...
    Is there a best practice for this type of scenario?? Do I need a way to copy the help project down locally for each user? If so what is the best technique being that they are accessing the help in a webapp not a winapp?
    Thanks!

    Hi there
    Typically you leave WebHelp on a server and access it from wherever. That's the beauty of it.
    You might begin by creating a simple shortcut or hyperlink from your desktop to open the help. Check the time it takes. If it opens really fast, you know there is an issue to be addressed with the way your application is opening it.
    Cheers... Rick

    Is there a best practice for deleting a published report from C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\FileStore on Crystal Reports Server or can I just delete the subfolders?  Does it reference them elsewhere?  I have a load of old reports I need to shed, but can't see how to do it.

  • Is there a best practice for multi location server setups including mac mail server?

    Afternoon all,
    Last year I setup a client with Snow Leopard Server including hosting his mail on the server with Mac Mail Server and calendaring.  He now has plans to open other sites with the same setup, how can this be done using Mac Server?  The implementation of a new server on the new site would be straight forward my concerns / question are:
    1. How would the two servers communicate?
        a.)Do they need to communicate?
    3. How will mail across the two sites work?
        a.) How will DNS work for email internally?
        b.) How will DNS work for emai externally?
    4.  How will calendaring work across the two sites?
    Is Mac Server the best platform for moving ahead with this type of business need?
    Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
    Anthony

    Camelot,
    many thanks for the speedy reply.  Your comments are very helpful thank you, if I may I will give you some for information and some other questions.
    The offices will be from 5 miles to 25 miles apart, the new office and ones that follow will be considered as branches of the main office for example the company name is Sunflower and it serves area 1, then new will office will serve area 2 and so on.  So in theory I could leave the main server domain and mail mx record as sunflower and then add further servers as 2.sunflower.com, 3.sunflower.com as domains and mx records? This would then provide unique mail records and users within the organisation such as [email protected] and [email protected], which doesnt look to good I would prefer all users to be name@sunflower how can this be acheived?
    With regard to user activity in the whole users will be fixed but their will be floaters such as managers and the owners that may at times float from one office to the other and would beneift from logging into any machine and getting their profile.
    I have thought about VPN's as I have acheieved this type of setup with Microsoft server products, I have found speed issues in some cases, how can this be acheived using OS X, are there any how to docs around?  In the Microsoft setup I acheived this using netgear VPN Firewalls which ofcourse adds an overhead, can this be acheived using OS X propietary VPN software?
    So ultimatley I would prefer to have the one domain without subs "sunflower.com" and users to be able to login to their profiles from either location. The main location now will remain as headoffice and the primary location and the new will be satelites.
    I hope that covers all of your other question, again many thanks for your comments and time.
    Kind Regards

  • Is there any best practice for printer configuration for test environment?

    My Oracle ebs test environment has a scheduled refresh period where it will be refreshed with production test data and configuration time to time for BA, Dev to work on their enhancement.
    However, all the printer configurations are still pointing to production ones after refreshed, which means whenever there is a testing on-going, the doc / label / invoices will be printed to production printer.
    May I know if there is a way to globally change all the printer setup for the test environment, so that nothing will be directly to production?... Please assist.
    (currently, the only way is to change one by one and only if you are aware of it...)
    In case your organization has any other strategy on this matter, pls share also... Thanks a lot.

  • What is Best Practice for Adding Thousands of Tasks to CloudJob?

    I am looking for some guidance on adding lots of tasks to a CloudJob.
    I have thousands of tasks to add to a job, and several parent tasks running across multiple TVMs are participating in adding the new tasks to the job. However, I can reproduce my problem with a single task that tries to add new tasks to the job with
    a max degree of parallelism of 15.
    In each thread, I call IBatchClient.OpenWorkItemManager, then IWorkItemManager.GetJobAsync, then ICloudJob.AddTaskAsync, followed by ICloudJob.CommitAsync in order to add a new task. I will occasionally get a "Server encountered an internal error. Please
    try again after some time." exception. After I delay, and then retry the entire series of operations again (from OpenWorkItemManager all the way to ICloudJob.CommitAsync), I receive the "A task instance can only be added to a single job." exception.
    Since I am receiving these exceptions frequently, I am hoping that there is a better way to add a lot of tasks to the job. I see a way to add multiple tasks to a work item, but I don't know what the tasks will be ahead of time. I have to wait until I am
    well into processing the job before I know what new tasks need to be added to the job.

    Am I correct in assuming you're doing something like this?
    Parallel.For(0, 100, new ParallelOptions() { MaxDegreeOfParallelism = 15}, async (idx) =>
    IWorkItemManager manager = batchClient.OpenWorkItemManager();
    ICloudJob job = await manager.GetJobAsync("wiName", "jobName");
    await job.AddTaskAsync(new CloudTask("foo", "cmdline"));
    You are doing some extra exception handling and stuff too as well I assume.
    There are a few improvements you can/should make that ought to make your life easier.
    First, the GetJobAsync() call actually does a round trip to the server -- you can avoid doing this for every task you add and reduce your round trips by half:
    IWorkItemManager manager = batchClient.OpenWorkItemManager();
    ICloudJob job = manager.GetJob("wiName", "jobName");
    //Foo("Test", "Abc", "test");
    Parallel.For(0, 100, new ParallelOptions() { MaxDegreeOfParallelism = 15}, async (idx) =>
    await job.AddTaskAsync(new CloudTask("foo", "cmdline"));
    Even more than that, we provide a helper method which has this functionality and performs bulk adds behind the scenes, which will reduce your round trips by about a factor of 50-100.
    IWorkItemManager manager = batchClient.OpenWorkItemManager();
    List<ICloudTask> tasksToAdd = new List<ICloudTask>(); //Popualte this with your tasks
    await manager.AddTaskAsync("wiName", "jobName", tasksToAdd, new BatchClientParallelOptions() { MaxDegreeOfParallelism = 15 });
    Additionally, we have a way where you can configure a "retry policy" without having to manually do it yourself on every call.  It's pretty handy, you can set it on the BatchClient itself, or on an individual call, below you can see I set it
    on both (just to show you - in a real application usually you would just set it on the batchClient and be done with it -- it would then apply to all operations done by the batch client):
    IBatchClient batchClient = BatchClient.Connect("", new BatchCredentials());
    IRetryPolicy retryPolicy = new LinearRetry(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(5), 6);
    batchClient.CustomBehaviors.Add(new SetRetryPolicy(retryPolicy));
    IWorkItemManager manager = batchClient.OpenWorkItemManager();
    List<ICloudTask> tasksToAdd = new List<ICloudTask>(); //Popualte this with your tasks
    await manager.AddTaskAsync(
    "wiName",
    "jobName",
    tasksToAdd,
    new BatchClientParallelOptions() { MaxDegreeOfParallelism = 15 },
    additionalBehaviors: new List<BatchClientBehavior>() { new SetRetryPolicy(retryPolicy) });
    Also a clarification -- you cannot ever add tasks to a work item.  The method for add tasks happens to live on the "WorkItemManager" which a bit confusingly also manages job related stuff as well (since job is a child of work item).
    Whenever you are adding tasks, you are always adding tasks to a job, so the "workItemManager" methods related to adding tasks all take job name as a parameter.
    Another issue you may be hitting has to do with .NETs service point manager... see:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.net.servicepointmanager.defaultconnectionlimit%28v=vs.110%29.aspx
    You may want to set this property to be something larger than the default of 2.
    Now, it's possible after making the changes I suggested you still experience some issues -- give these changes a try and if you're still having issues come back and let us know what they are and we can help you improve the submission code further.
    You can also see the sample code for TextSearch which demonstates this in the JobManager task.
    https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsazure/Azure-Batch-Sample-Text-87d08017/sourcecode?fileId=129811&pathId=1120079659
    Hope that helps,

  • Best practice for multi-language content in common areas

    I've got a site with some text in header/footer/nav that needs to be translated between an English and Spanish site, which use the same design. My intention was to set up all the text as content to facilitate. However, if I use a standard dialog with the component's path set to a child of the current page node, I would need to re-enter the text on every page. If I use a design dialog, or a standard dialog with the component's path set absolutely, the Engilsh and Spanish sites will share the same text. If I use a standard dialog with the component's path set relatively (eg path="../../jcr:content/myPath"), the pages using the component would all need to be at the same level of the hierarchy.
    It appears that the Geometrixx demo doesn't address this situation, and leaves copy in English. Is there a best practice for this scenario?

    I'm finding that something to the effect of <cq:include path="<%= strCommonContentPath + "codeEntry" %>" resourceType ...
    works fine for most components, but not for parsys, or a component containing a parsys. When I attempt that, I get a JS error that says "design.path is null or not an object". Is there a way around this?

  • Best practice for iTunes' music folder

    i keep my music on an external drive, but want itunes to be able to play the songs.
    currently, the itunes music folder is set to its default location. i changed the preference to prevent iTunes from copying music to this location. i added music to iTunes using File | 'Add folder to Library' menu.
    my friend, who also has his music on an external drive, set his itunes music folder to the Music folder on his external drive.
    what are the differences between these two approaches? what are the issues?
    is there a best practice for using iTunes w/ music stored on an external drive?
    thanks for your time.

    Thanks Paul for helping
    I am getting the symbol and can locate the song but it is very time consuming and I can't do whole albums .
    I tried dragging the entire music folder into iTunes . Is this it , iTunes Music Library.xml ? These are all the files and folders I found
    iTunes 3 Music Library Data file
    iTunes 4 Music Library Data File
    iTunes 4 Music Library (Old) Data File
    iTunes Music folder
    iTunes Music Library.xml document
    Temp File Document
    I unchecked the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder "
    before I dragged the xml. doc into the iTunes symbol in the dock .
    This seems to have made matters worse . Now I can't find the file at all except through the finder .

  • Best practice for Wireless ap vlan

    Is there a best practice for grouping lightweight access points in one vlan or allowing them to be spread across several ??

    Whether you have multiple sites or not, it's good practice to put your APs in a separate and dedicated VLAN.
    If your sites are routed sites, then you can re-use the same VLAN numbers but make sure they are on separate subnets and/or VRF instance.

  • Best practice for version control B2B, ESB and BPEL

    Hello,
    we are setting up a new system using B2B, ESB and BPEL. The development team is more experienced working with PL/SQL, Oracle Workflow and we are worried that Jdeveloper generates changes to the source files during development and that we might have problems with the version control.
    Is there any best practice for setting up version control for these systems? Do we need to take anything in particular into consideration when setting up the projects?
    We are using Serena Dimensions 9.1 for version control with the add-on in Jdeveloper.
    Thanks in advance!

    I believe JDeveloper has a plugin for Dimensions.
    I havent used it but to get it, go to tools (It may be help I don't have JDeveloper on this machine to confirm) check for updates.
    If you select the thrid party check box - next, you will see an entry for dimentions.
    Configure the connection and develop as you would any other project.

  • Best practice for keeping a mail session open in web application?

    Hello,
    We have a webmail like application where users login with their IMAP credentials, then are taken to an authenticated area of the site where they can manage different things about their email account.
    Right now the application is opening and closing a mail store connection (via a new javax.mail.Session) for each page load based on the current logged in user credentials. To me this seems like it would be a bad practice to keep opening and closing a connection each page load.
    Are there any best practices for this situation? It would be nice to be able to open the connection to the mail server on login, then keep that connection open until the person logs out, session expires, etc.
    I can probably put the javax.mail.Session into the HTTP session, but that seems like it would break any clustering functionality of tomcat. This would be fine if the machine the user is on didn't fail, but id assume if they failed over to another the mail session would be gone. Maybe keeping the mail session in the http session, checking for a connection, then first attempting to reconnect with the logged in credentials before giving up would be a possiblity?
    Any pointers would be appreciated

    If you keep the connection open across pages, you're going to need to deal with
    timeouts - from the http session and from the mail server.
    If you don't keep the connection open, you're going to need to "resynchronize"
    your view of the store/folder with each operation, in case the folder is modified
    by another session.
    The former is easier in the common cases, especially if you don't care how gracefully
    you handle failures. The latter is more difficult in the common cases, but handles
    failure better, and in particular handles clustering better. You'll need to measure it to
    see if it meets your performance and scalability requirements. You may need to mix
    the two approaches to get acceptable performance.

  • Best practice for importing non-"Premiere-ready" video files

    Hello!
    I work with internal clients that provide me with a variety of differnet video types (could be almost ANYTHYING, WMV, MP4, FLV).  I of course ask for AVIs when possible, but unfortunately, I have no control over the type of file I'm given.
    And, naturally, Premiere (just upgraded to CS5) has a hard time dealing with these files.  Unpredictable, ranging from working fine to not working at all, and everything in between.  Naturally, it's become a huge issue for turnaround time.
    Is there a best practice for preparing files for editing in Premiere?
    I've tried almost everything I can think of:  converting the file(s) to .AVIs using a variety of programs/methods.  Most recently, I tried creating a Watch Folder in Adobe Media Encoder and setting it for AVI with the proper aspect ratio.  It makes sense to me that that should work:using an Adobe product to render the file into something Premiere can work with.
    However, when I imported the resulting AVI into Premiere, it gave me the Red Line of Un-renderness (that is the technical term, right?), and had the same sync issue I experienced when I brought it in as a WMV.
    Given our environment, I'm completely fine with adding render time to the front-end of projects, but it has to work.  I want files that Premiere likes.
    THANK YOU in advance for any advice you can give!
    -- Dave

    I use an older conversion program (my PrPro has a much older internal AME, unlike yours), DigitalMedia Converter 2.7. It is shareware, and has been replaced by Deskshare with newer versions, but my old one works fine. I have not tried the newer versions yet. One thing that I like about this converter is that it ONLY uses System CODEC's, and does not install its own, like a few others. This DOES mean that if I get footage with an oddball CODEC, I need to go get it, and install it on the System.
    I can batch process AV files of most types/CODEC's, and convert to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio and at 29.97 FPS (I am in NTSC land). So far, 99% of the resultant converted files have been perfect, whether from DivX, WMV, MPEG-2, or almost any other format/CODEC. If there is any OOS, my experience has been that it will be static, so I just have to adjust the sync offset by a few frames, and that takes care of things.
    In a few instances, the PAR flag has been missed (Standard 4:3 vs Widescreen 16:9), but Interpret Footage has solved those few issues.
    Only oddity that I have observed (mostly with DivX, or WMV's) is that occasionally, PrPro cannot get the file's Duration correct. I found that if I Import those problem files into PrElements, and then just do an Export, to the same exact specs., that resulting file (seems to be 100% identical, but something has to be different - maybe in the header info?) Imports perfectly into PrPro. This happens rarely, and I have the workaround, though it is one more step for those. I have yet to figure out why one very similar file will convert with the Duration info perfect, and then a companion file will not. Nor have I figured out exactly what is different, after running through PrE. Every theory that I have developed has been shot down by my experiences. A mystery still.
    AME works well for most, as a converter, though there are just CODEC's, that Adobe programs do not like, such as DivX and Xvid. I doubt that any Adobe program will handle those suckers easily, if at all.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Best practice for nested scripting on UCCX

    Hello All!
    Newbie on scripting here and inheritted a HIGHLY customized UCCX environment.  In looking at the scripts, it seems the system integrator built out the logic for every script within every script.  That is, if one script queues calls into CSQ1 and if they are waiting for more than 2 minutes it sends them to CSQ2, it has all of the logic in that one script that the regular CSQ2 script has as well.  So that means anytime "a change" has to be made, it has to be made to the CSQ2 logic in the CSQ1 script AND the CSQ2 script as well.
    Is there a best practice for this?  I would think it would be easier to say, in the above scenario that if the caller is waiting in CSQ1 for more than 2 minutes, it shoudl redirect the call to a trigger for the application that uses CSQ2.  Thus the logic is in the respective scripts and not duplicated across the board.
    Any thoughts and experiences on how this is best accomplished and maintained would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    JG

    Yes, if all queue logic is the common for your different CSQs you can build one common script and then reference this script as a subflow from your main scripts and simply pass the CSQ name as a variable to it.  This way you avoid what you said the need to rebuild logic in several places if you need to make a global change, you simply change the one common script logic.
