Is there a reference of the ActiveX LabVIEW 8.2?

Hi,
I would like to write a tool which allow to show all my VIs in a tree and edit the properties of these VIs (for example 'documentation'). Then I want to generate an HTML and .CHM documentation from this set of VIs.
I found an ActiveX for LabVIEW8.2 which works fine with .NET C# but I could'nt find the documentation of this ActiveX (which name is LabVIEW). Does anybody knows where is the documentation?

I think the exported ActiveX functions should be the same as the application properties and invoke nodes in LabVIEW. So you can use the LabVIEW help to look up the function. Not sure though, I never used it.

  • How do I quickly update the ActiveX automation references in my VIs when the ActiveX interface changes?

    Hello all,
I joined a test automation team in the middle of a large project and
inherited a huge set of VIs (over 700) and associated architecture for
this automation (not to mention the several thousand TestStand
sequences).  Another part of the project is being developed by our
customer, who is using VB 6.0 to create ActiveX components which we
need to use in LabView to access their hardware.  They've already
invested a large amount of time developing these ActiveX components,
and they are not finished -- meaning the ActiveX interfaces will be
changing.  Every time they send updated ActiveX components, I have to
re-write many, many VIs including updating a couple strict typdefs.
This process takes way too much time and is mind-numbing and prone to
    error or omission.
Unfortunately I can't post any of the VIs because of a NDA.  But
perhaps a bit more detailed explanation would help.  TestStand calls a
VI to open and get an ActiveX reference for automation (which it stores
in a variant).  It will pass this reference into any VI it calls to
perform specific functions through this ActiveX interface.  For
example, one VI that may be called passes this automation refnum into
another, which passes it to another, which passes it into another to
get the actual ActiveX reference stored in that variant (through a
Variant To Data call with a strict typedef of the ActiveX component
wired to the type input).  [See the attached image of this sample VI
hierarchy: the far left icon would represent TestStand, and the far
right is the strict typedef.]  Any of the VIs in the chain might use
ActiveX Property or Invoke nodes, and it can break at any one of those
when the ActiveX component changes.  It's easy to fix each one, but
since there are so many VIs it takes a very long time.
Is there any way at all to do a massive search/replace or something to
make the ActiveX references update?  I realise that even though
property or method names stay the same from one version to the next,
they are different references.  Is there a way to update these based on
name if you give it the base ActiveX reference?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Ben,
Unfortunately I can't post any VIs that would demonstrate the problem
because the ActiveX components are confidential.  I'll try to develop
my own ActiveX dll that will demonstrate it, but in the meantime, in
hopes that another picture will help, I've attached an image of a block
diagram (with some names changed to protect confidential information)
of one of the lower level VIs from the hierarchy I posted.  In this
example, the "Automation Refnum IN" is an input with a type definition
linked to the strict typedef based on the ActiveX automation dll that
has changed.  I updated that typedef, but as you can see the output to
the "Class1" indicator is broken.  If I delete the "Class1" indicator
and select Create->Indicator from the Class1 property node, and then
wire the new "Class1" indicator to the connector pane, the VI is fixed
-- at least at compile time.  In most cases there is also a runtime
problem where the reference obtained by one of the intermediate
property nodes is null, so the property or method node that uses it
fails (e.g. "_VNManager.Networks" property returned is 0, so the
"_Networks.Network1" property node fails).  To fix this problem, I have
to delete the wires between the property nodes, and one by one select a
different property/method, then select the correct property/method and
re-wire.  There seems to be a bit of "jiggling the handle" to get it to
    work though.
I don't know if the ActiveX developer changed anything in this class,
but if he did, he didn't change the name of this class.  I would like
to have to modify the VI only if a class, property or method has
    changed name or been removed.
Does that all make sense?  Thanks for any pointers or help!

  • Passing an ActiveX reference from TestStand to Labview

How can I pass and ActiveX reference (for a dll) created and used in a TestStand sequence (under Locals) to a VI running within that sequence so that I can then call the same instance of the dll from Labview?
(I know this isn't the best approach to programming but I'm more interested in proving the point than anything else)
    Cheers
    Dan

Here's what I think you are tyring to do. Within your sequence, instantiate an object from an ActiveX DLL, storing a reference to it within a TS variable. Then, within a VI called by this sequence, call a method of the intantiated object.
To do this, when specifying your module on your LV step you must check the Sequence Context ActiveX Pointer check box. In the called VI you must have the a Sequence Context control on your front panel and have it wired to your connector pane along with a TestData cluster control and a LV Error Out cluster control.
Within the VI you use an invoke node to invoke the AsPropertyObject method on the SequenceContext (Make sure you use the ActiveX close function on this new reference when you are done with it.). Use another invoke node to call GetValInterface method on the sequence context property object reference (you could probably also use the GetValIDispatch method. See the help). For this invoke node you will want to use a lookupstring that reference the variable, relative to yo sequence context, in which you stored the refernce to the instantiated object in your sequence file. This will return a variant reference. You must convert this reference to a LV reference using the "To G Data" function in the ActiveX palette. The "To G Data" function requires a type input. You will need an ActiveX Automation Refnum control as the input to this (see ActiveX control palette). You will need to right click on this automation refnum control and browse the ActiveX automation server until you find the DLL ActiveX server from which you instantiated your object within your sequence. Once selected, also select the object that you instantiated. The "To G Data" function will then give you a reference to you object on which you can happily used in your desired manner. Make sure to close this reference with an ActiveX Automation close function when you are done with it.
I would definitely clean this up with a subVI to perhaps generalize the solution.

  • In Lookout 4.0.1 why does launching the L4P tie up the modem when there's no reference to the modem in the file??

Running Lookout 4.0.1 on an NT machine. Lookout launches fine, but when the process file is started the "TR" lamp on the modem lights up. There is no reference to the modem in the L4P; no objects use it. The DL205 object uses Com 1 (configured in Lookout as hardwired)via DB9 serial RS-232 to communicate with the PLC port but computer's modem is on Com2. This anomaly is preventing another application from using the modem to dial-out alarms. What's up with this?

    Khalid:
We do not supply the computer used by the customer so we cannot control consistency or choice of hardware. That said, we HAVE successfully used Lookout and the other application (the one that's trying to access the modem) many times in other computers without having this "conflict".
The built-in COM port is being used.
I did check the text in the LKS. file before posting: no reference to COM2.

    Yes.
I suppose you want to know where, as well.
Look over at the left column of the page you are on now. See the "Tutorials" entry? That's a link. Click on it. It takes you to a whole page full of tutorials. Click on "Java Tutorial". That takes you to another whole page of tutorials. One of them is about networking.

  • Is it possible to querry all of the Virtual Instruments in a VI using the ActiveX Server Virtual Instrument Class?

Is it possible to querry all of the Virtual Instruments that exist in the Front panel of a VI using the ActiveX Server Virtual Instrument Class? I can't seem to find a method or property that returns all the Instruments I may want to control from another application.
I wish not to have to reference to the VI to figure the ControlName by looking at the VI FrontPanel.
But rather have a prop that exposes the strings of all the Instruments.
    Example:
    allinstr=ObjectVIInstrument.VIControlNames
    Object.SetControlValue(AllInstr(1),value)
    Thanks.
    -Abe

    Abe,
There is a VI method called "Get All Control Values" that returns an array of {name, typedesc, flatstrvalue} but this method is not exposed to ActiveX interface, most probably because type descriptors and flattened strings are data format internal to LabVIEW.
However you can make a subVI that inputs the target VI name and returns the name of all controls on the Panel invoking the internal method. Then you call this VI via ActiveX to retrieve the list of Front Panel controls of the target VI.

  • I'm getting a "The procedure entrypoint ssSr192x__ssSr192drvssSrReset could no be located in the dynamic link library ssSR192x.dll" because the ActiveX instrument driver DLL doesn't have the function names in the export table.

Is there a way for my CVI project to reference the functions in the ActiveX without including the instrument .fp in the project?
    Thanks much.
I'm confused on how CVI uses ActiveX components and hope someone can help.
I'm using an ActiveX driver from an instrument manufacturer and I use the .TLB to generate a .fp, .c, and .h file. If I register the .dll and load the .fp in my project, all is well. Unfortunately in my application the functions to control this instrument are in another DLL whose .lib I include in my CVI projec
    t. Running the CVI project this way gives me "The procedure entrypoint ssSr192x__ssSr192drvssSrReset could no be located in the dynamic link library ssSR192x.dll" because the instrument function names aren't in the export table in the instrument DLL. Non-ActiveX DLLs have the export tables so everything works for them.
    Program structure with non-ActiveX DLLs:
CVI project (.exe with common.lib in project list)
    |
    V
Common DLL (MeasDMM() with hp1234.lib in project list)
    |
    V
    Instrument DLL (hp1234_measure())
Since I get a .c and .h file from the .TLB, I've tried recompiling the DLL (.dll and .lib produced) and the functions seem to work, but I get "Class not registered" errors unless I play games with the registry so I'm obviously violating numerous Microsoft rules!
Is there a way for my CVI project to reference the functions in the ActiveX without including the instrument .fp in the project? Thanks much.

    Hello Jeff,
Where were your getting the .lib file for the ActiveX DLL? Did you use the "hp1234"
    ActiveX driver generated by the "Create ActiveX Automation Controller" CVI Tool to build a static library? If you open an include file and choose Options >> Generate DLL..., it will generate source code or a static import library to load the specified DLL and load functions specified in the include file (this only works if the functions are exported from a DLL). However, in the case of our ActiveX Automation Controllers, ActiveX calls are used to access a DLL. This means that you do not need an import library. You should be able to open the "hp1234" source file and click Options >> Create Object File. Simply #include "hp1234.h" and add "hp1234.obj" to your Common DLL project;
the .fp file is not necessary. If this does not answer your questions or if you experience further difficulty, please post further details on what you are doing and the errors that are being encountered ("play games with the registry" and "recompiling 'the' DLL" are a bit vague in this case).

  • Is there a limit on the size of the input for the Solve Linear Equations block?

    Hello,
I'm trying to figure out why the Solve Linear Equations block will properly function with some sets of data and why it won't with others. What my program is doing is taking a signal and comparing it with a batch of sine and cosine waves to try and pick out patterns in the data. I have different sample sizes and it seems to work when I throw 3900 points at it. However, I have another set with 4550 points and it gives me incorrect amplitudes for my sinusoids.  Is there some limit to the size of the matrices that I can give this block? Or is there some other workaround that still allows me to keep all of my data?
    Thanks,
    David Joseph

Well, the best way to show what I expect is to see the entire program. It's pretty evident that when looking at the graphs, something isn't right. What is supposed to happen is that the runout amplitudes are found, and then those sinusoids are subtracted from the initial data, leaving tooth to tooth data and noise. When I use the larger arrays, it seems as though not all of the data gets through (count the peaks on the product gear runout graph vs. initial) and the amplitudes are much to small, such that nothing is really taken out and the tooth to tooth data looks like the initial data.
Also, we will also be using an FFT, but it will be limited to only determining the frequencies we should check. I've fought with the fft blocks quite a bit and I just prefer to not use them. Plus, the guy I'm writing this for wants exact answers and does not want to pad or resample the data or use windows.
The exact number of data points isn't important (ie. 4550 vs 4551) since I use the array size block to index the for loop.
As for typical values, they can change a lot based on materials. But, the original 3900 data point sets and the 4550 data point sets used practically identical gears. So, use the original 3900 sets I've included as references (check the RO array block numbers to compare).
I've included 3 3900 samples, 3 4550 samples, and 3 4550 samples that have been truncated to 3900 or so as constants on the block diagram.
Also, the check for additional runouts (like 3 per rev, 4 per rev, etc..) is optional, but if you choose to use it, use positive integers only.
I don't know how much of this program will make sense and I have wires running everywhere.. so good luck. Keep in mind I'm only a student and I hadn't touched Labview until about 2 or 3 months ago.
    Thanks,
    David Joseph

  • "an error occurred saving the activex control"

I'm trying to compile an executable in Labview 5.1. When I run the build app, it gets about half way done then pops up the error:
"an error occurred saving the activex control"
After clearing the error message, it proceeds to go through the motions of compling the app, but no exe is generated.
The design mode progam run operates fine, and it saves fine as well in design mode.
    Thanks!

    wawatts,
Though Brian and I got a broken arrow because we didn't have the necessary ActiveX component installed, I imagine you get no errors on the development system because you do have the component.
This problem would be much harder to pin down on your side given the lack of development-environment errors and the sprawling design of the main VI. One possible troubleshooting approach would be the LabVIEW Find functionality (Edit >> Find). ActiveX functionality typically involves the use of Property Nodes and Invoke Nodes, so if you search for any Invoke Nodes (Select Object, then Functions >> Communication >> ActiveX >> Invoke Node) in the scope of your main VI and its subVIs, you could perhaps have turned up some hits that take you to the subVI that has the control that is presumably causing the problem.
Unfortunately, I fear that finding the problem area doesn't solve the problem. It seems to me that either the LabVIEW app builder or the ActiveX component is doing something unexpected or nonstandard that is leading to the error message.
I'm going to stick to my "upgrade the software as much as possible" guns:
    1. Install the LabVIEW 5.1.1 patch I linked to above, if it isn't already installed. There were fixes to the development environment and changes to the app builder that might resolve your problem. This is a free patch.
    2. Consider upgrading the ActiveX control. I think that the latest version is called IntuiLink for 54600-series Oscilloscopes, Version 3.1, and it's available here on the Agilent site.
It was easy to do a simple test using your Xezgetsetup.vi on my system (LabVIEW 7.1.1, XP) with the updated ActiveX control. First, I installed the Agilent software. Then, I right-clicked inside the ActiveX control on the front panel of Xezgetsetup.vi, chose Insert ActiveX Object, and selected Agilent 54600 Scope Control from the list. Then I had to go to the block diagram and relink a few of the property and invoke nodes by just left-clicking on broken nodes and re-selecting the items that your code was already displaying. That fixed the VI so that it would run again.
Then I built that VI into an EXE and got no errors.
Perhaps all this proves is that you would have clear sailing if you upgraded to LabVIEW 7.1 and got the most recent Agilent ActiveX control--and maybe this is a good reason to bite the bullet and do that upgrade now--but it's certainly possible that you can do the same thing in 5.1 and solve your problem. Worth a shot.
    Hope that helps,
    John

  • VI Scripting: get reference of the duplicate element

In VI scripting I copy element (any type of indicator, control, constant) with Move method with duplicate property - true. The output top right terminal of the method is the reference to the source object, not the new one.
Is there any straightforward way to get reference to that copy (other copy method, etc)?
Not straightforward solutions (they may work on test examples, but not good)
    1) move to temporary cluster - easy to find a new element
    2) list all objects before, after and compare lists. But the source VI can be of any size and complexity.
    3) Create element copy manually - bad, the solution should work on all kinds of elements.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Good method.
    It is almost working!
It can create controls and indicators, but fails with constants (Class conflict, when wiring constant reference to the Source Object Reference terminal)
Besides, there is a wrong description of the method (LV 2011):
    LabVIEW help
    Create from reference method:
    Source Object Reference
A reference to the object you want to duplicate on the target VI. If you use this parameter, you do not need to wire the _type descriptor and style fields_.
There are no type descriptor and style fields at all, they are in other methods

  • Can I switchout the reference to the constructer of a Web Services

I have two web services that are idententical (Site A and Site B).
Can I use a case statement on the reference from the constructer node to the rest of my code?
I am using Constructer>>Invoke>>Property nodes. The Invoke nodes are breaking if they were not created from the Constructer node.
Is there a different way to use Web Services to allow me to use the same code logic for two different web services?
I am using LabVIEW 8.2. Will I have the same problem in later versions of LabVIEW?
    Thanks!
    -John Redman

I *think* I have answered my question... If somone can confirm or deny it would be appreciated.
Labview *only* works with Web Services via a wizard that creates a .Net interface.
The constructer reference of a .Net assembly can not be switched switched out because (I don't know why... the rules of .Net? The rules of LabVIEW? Other? Either way the reference can't be switched.)
I tried this in LabVIEW 2010 via an evaluation version and I had the same problem (Invoke nodes broke when Constructer referencs were changed).
I guess the way around this is to make sub VIs and only pull data from the DB, one for each data source. The VI should have no other functionality to simplify the copy/paste from DB1 to DB2, DB3... process.
Let me know what you think!
