Is there a way control fan speed in ubuntu linux to replace hp coolsense?

My computer is prone to over-heating when I'm using Ubuntu and so I'm trying to control the fan speeds. I've researched a little and I'm blocked on how to control fan speed and then installed `lm-sensors`and `fan control`.
I'm now trying to configure lm-sensors to no avail. In terminal I typed `sudo sensors-detect` and answer YES to all YES/no questions. Installed modules with` sudo /etc/init.d/kmod start`.
Now when I typed `sudo pwmconfig`
I get this output
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed
The way I tried to fixed this is to edit /etc/default/grub to add `acpi_enforce_resources=lax` to the `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT` and then perform a grub update. I'm still having the same issue.
Could it be that my fans are PWM 3-pin where fan speed is controlled by voltage?

Of course I dont expect this. When you switch on the notebook CPU reach high temperature in few seconds only and you must not wonder if pretty high CPU temperature and fan activity will be shown very soon.
I dont know what do you expect but it is logic that cooling fan will run. Maybe all time maybe will be cut off for short period of time but it will run permanently. I dont see any problem there. With cooling method option it can be reduced a little bit.

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

However, unless I specifically add the contact to my mac address book, it will be deleted from my iphone contacts upon sync. The option in iTunes to replace contacts on my iphone is not selected. Thank you for your reply. I realy have nothing else to sync - no music. Emails do work so its just my contacts I am concerned about. I'm kinda new at this but have a working understanding of the system.
I have an icloud account but the Geek Squad went there and tried but could not export contacts. I truly am not that good re icloud. They worked exclusively with my itunes, re-downloading, etc - all of the stuff in their book.
I have not tried a complete restore because I am not sure I am that good with the equipment but could. I did all of the stuff on the help page - sync reset, forced one-way sync etc but the phone just does not seem to recognize the sync. I have not gone to an Apple store to have them have a look - that may be my next step to hook up to another itunes computer. It seems simple to me - it was working fine until maybe 3 months ago - probably when there was an update. Its telling to me that the phone does not tell me there is a sync in process while itunes is saying there is - its just not biting between the 2.
I appreciate any hep - and I said, I not stupidi about these things but have kind of reached as far as I am comfortable with fear of doing something really wrong.

Try CPUCool software. It has several different methods to detect temperature and control the fans.You do not need to use the overclocking features of the software in order to see temps and control the fans. You can select the method for detection of sensors the PC uses (transistor , thermal electrode , Pentium compatible on die) CPUCool works great on my SR1303WM I used the overclock feature on the Sempron 2 GHz. It increased speed to 2.2 GHz. (stable no audio or video defects at 100% CPU usage. 10% increase Free of charge. To overclock you will need the PLL # I found it listed on an ICS chip on the motherboard. Most of the time my cpu fan speed is around 3800 rpm or more, even if the cpu temperature is stable on around 46°C.
I followed the guide and wanted to run "pwmconfig" - this is what I get, when running it as root:

For whatever reason, it is not finding any "pwm-capable sensor modules"..
I googled around and couldn't find any workaround for my issue and hoping you guys can help me out.

I'm also getting 'There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed' when trying to run the pwmconfig script. Not sure why.
I run Arch and Mint 'Maya' with the new KDE. I just reinstalled both because I put another harddrive in.
Now I know that with Maya before reinstalling the fan would calm down after I logged into Gnome. On Arch it just keeps going at full tilt.
I've googled around like a madman but keep running down dead ends on this.
Any success stories on folks getting this to work? Anyone have a good HOWTO they swear by?

MSI Z87-G43 can't control fan speed

Hi, i just bought an MSI Z87-G43 and i'm using a i5-4670 on it (yeah, 4670 without the K).
I wanted the minimum noise as possible so i bought a Noctua NH-U12P SE2
Like the pictures shows it has 2 fans.
I connected the 2 fans on cpu1 and cpu2 fan and both BIOS and Commander Center can see them correctly, but both of them can't change the rotation speed.
Those fans have a 3 pins connector.
How can i do it? Now my CPU is cool and i like it, but a little more hot for a little less noise is a good deal (and my goal!)

As alternative you can get a fan controller like Sunbeamtech Rheosmart PCI Fan Controller, it should allow to use 4pin PWM singnal and convert it into voltage control,

How can I control fan speeds in Win7 on a MBP-R for gaming?

I have a MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It has had Windows 7 installed and I want to play some 3D action games. How do I stop internal parts from overheating? I intend to use a USB cooling pad but that'll do nothing if the internal fans remain at idle speed.
The only Windows fan speed control utility I could find was the 4-year old SpeedFan which fails to detect the presence of any internal fans. I'm not impressed with the Windows community's failure to offer more and better than this tired old relic.

"This works for me" is a little vague. What worked for me specifically was to start with your link and drill down two levels of links to this webpage, http://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/7932.html, which explained what the problem is and that the workaround is to add acpi_enforce_resources=lax to the kernel command line in /boot/grub/menu.lst.
Someone who understands this issue better than I do should probably amend the appropriate sections of the wiki (lm_sensors, fancontrol, et al).

This maybe a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway.
I've got a Linux box with 256 Ram running CentOS. I can up it to 512, but playing with the 10G R2 Enterprise install, it complains about it not having 1G of ram needed for install. So is 1G the minium ram for Oracle 10G R2 or is there a way to install it on a box with less ram? This is not a production environment, I'm just learning and testing.
Also, what is the min ram requirements for the Express version?

Control fan speed on MS-6380E

I have MSI KT3 Ultra MD with RAID (MS-6380E) with Athlon 1800. I have read, that "... CPU Fan supports fan control...", so, I install PC Alert 3 and...
ANd this PC ALert says, that I have NO CPU Fan and only FAN2 (system fan)... So - no speed control for this fan...
I download last version for PC Alert 3 - all the same...
I download PC Alert 4 - and (great!) it shows, that I HAVE CPU fan, but there is no fan control in this programm..
I - what shall I do? My "Thermaltake" fan works on the maximum speed with great noise. Can somebody helps me and say, what program can slow down the speed of the fan while the temperature of processor is normal?

I have one timeline (one footage), and there is a section, i want to speed up then back to normal.

On Windows, I know it's possible to find the location of jvm.dll using the RuntimeLib key in the registry, and I've used this technique in a program. Is there a UNIX/Linux equivalent to this?
In other words, is it possible for me to find out the location of libjvm.so without the user having to enter it manually, or the path to the library be in an environment variable?

ldconfig, being a user process, must be run manually and has no means
of dynamically determining and relinking shared libraries for use by
ld.so when a new DLL is installed.
That said, you could run something like locate on the library, and then put it in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH for the user that's running the program.
