Is there a way to script "expand appearance"?

I have created a method to create line art roof shingles row-by-row. I think something like this is a good candidate for scripting, but I run into a dead-end quickly when trying to script this. Basically, I use "expand appearance" multiple times during the course of this process and I can't find any way to script that action. I have heard about using MenuIDs, but I can't find anything on how to discover what the MenuID for "expand appearance" is.
Anyhow, here is the tutorial. If anyone can give me some pointers on how to script this process, I would be very thankful.
I have also tried recording an action, but "expand appearance" doesn't get saved.

I used the recorder to record an action. The Expand Appearance step didn't record. I just now noticed you can add menu items to actions from the drop-down menu. Trying that. The next step is to add the tweak and roughen steps to the action.
I'm using Windows BTW and was going to script in javascript.

I expanded the appearance of a brush path intending for it to only be temporary, but accidentally saved it that way. When I reopened the file, obviously I couldn't undo "expand appearance." Is there any way to un-expand it and make it a path again?

Unfortunately not.
Unless you can fall back on an earlier version, I am afraid you will have to recreate the original path. If you are lucky with a symmetric brush, you may be able to cut the object at the ends and create a 1 step blend between the bounding paths and expand the blend thus getting access to the central and hopefully original path, and then you may reapply the brush.

I stopped at the local Apple Store. Three salespeople heard my question and they agreed that the email count is not accesssible in iOS 7. Furthermore, it is not possible to control the number of messages held on the Apple device. It was possible in iOS 6, as one of the salespeople demonstrated. Since that is the case, what is the number of emails stored in iOS 7? If it varies, what determines the number that are stored? I do not want to set up an email account with 7000 to 8000 existing emails and wonder what will happen.

When changing apps to full screen, is there a way to make them appear to the left of pre-existing desktops/apps in mission control?

I'm not sure when this changed (it was a while ago, possibly with OS X Mountain Lion, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't always this way?) but full-screening apps used to add them to the left of everything else. Now, things are added to the right side of the thumbnail strip, which is extremely inconvenient for me.
Is there any way to change it back?

Is there a way to script finding users in Unity and CUCM

I currently get a list once a month of all users who no longer work for our company. As we roll out more VOIP installs the list grows and the old way of doing things needs to change. Currently I search one by one through CUCM and Unity to see if the user is assigned a phone. I would like to be able to pull a list of all users from both Unity and CUCM put that into a spread sheet and then compare my attrition spread sheet to that spread sheet therby speeding up the process of determining which users might be assigned a phone.
Note company hires warehouse workers and they come and go frequently and are not assigned phones but, they along with users with phones are all dumped into a spread sheet so I have no way of know who is who.
1. I have a spread sheet with names on it both people with and without phones
2. I would like to download a list so I can compare the two and determine which ones have phones
I am open to other ideas and suggestions to make the laborious task easier.

Seems easy enough on the face of it - unless there's something I'm not getting - are you talking Unity or Unity Connection (folks often just say "Unity" as shorthand for either) - if you're dealing with Unity then you'll have to dance with ODBC which isnt' the end of the world but doing it from "script" is going to be a challange. If you're talking about Unity Connection you can also use ODBC but you have the option for an HTTP REST search for users by name.
So it's just a matter of searching by name and getting matches back (names are not guranteed to be unique of course, assuming you mean name as first/last/display name and not alias). It can kick out all matches I suppose and include the extension number. Unity and Unity connecton _always_ have extension numbers (it's required) so I'm unsure what someone "without a phone" would look like in Unity/Connection - that's a bit odd - how do they check messages? And without a phone why do they have a voice mail account?

Is there any way to join paths after expanding appearances?

I'm drawing very simple forms to send to a laser cutter and I need them to be symmetrical. I'm using the "transform" tool to mirror my drawing, then expanding the appearance at the end. But once I have 2 full paths, I can't get illustrator to join them. I've grouped them, ungrouped them, made a copy of the drawing, tried everything I can think of. I swear it actually used to do this so maybe my software is corrupted (I'm using CS4- yes, the dark ages!) so if I need to just move forward that's cool- but if there's an easy way to get this to work I might just stick with the old stuff since this is really all I use it for, and very infrequently. Thanks for any thoughts!

Thanks for the response! It's possible I'm misunderstanding the expand feature, but it seems that until I expand appearances and turn the "mirrored" path into a "real" path, there is no second half to join to, so I couldn't do it beforehand. I tried the suggestions that you and Monika made about trying the Unite/merge etc. in the pathfinder panel, but they didn't work. What's confusing me is that if I simply draw two scribbles with the pencil tool, it's two clicks to join the ends of those paths to make an enclosed form. I can't understand what it is about the lines made by expanding appearances that marks them as somehow different from plain old lines. They look the same, behave the same in all other ways but the software balks when I try to join the endpoints. I even tried clipping a little bit of the ends of the two paths I want to join, just to see if it would "reset" something about the lines, but that didn't work either. I'm attaching an image of one of the forms- neither the top points or the bottom ones are joined. Hope that clarifies what I'm trying to do- I drew the left half with the "copy" reflecting using the transform feature, then when i liked the way the whole thing looked I hit "expand appearances" to end up with two usable halves. I'm not at all attached to that method of getting the two halves; in fact it does work to turn the "transform" effect back off and simply use the reflect tool, but that's more cumbersome and it seems silly that just joining the endpoints can't work. Any other thoughts would be so appreciated!

The endless scrolling technique is far too tedious when trying to add a new bookmark, because the window is simply too tiny. I suggest you install the "Add Bookmark to Here2" extension, then you can expand the the list but you will not see the bookmark itself in the list if that is what you wanted. At the top you have three major folders you can select one of them and scroll up and down. Below that you have your most recently used folders and you can select one of them instead and scroll up and down. You can see the folder the bookmark is in -- they get added to the bottom
If you really want to see the bookmark within the folder the same extension allows you to bring the bookmark to the folder from say the bookmarks sidebar that is why it is named as such. I use it but mainly i use the dialog.

If you are not using tags at all, you can remove a whole lot of confusion by removing them from the dialog via the extension.

Is there a way to create a script to execute tmconfig and change CLOPTS parameters
for a particular server?
Here is what I would like to accomplish. Want to set "-r" option to a limited
number of servers, on an as needed basis. I do not want to bring down the environment
and update the ubbconfig file. The support people are not familiar with tmconfig.
So, I would like to create a script to turn the "-r" option on when needed and
restart only those servers and then turn it off once the debufgging is done.
Is there any command other than tmconfig, which I could use to accomplish this?

If you've got perl on your machine, you can download the tuxedo perl module and
write perl scripts to call tuxedo services. There's also a tuxedo::admin module
at cpan now.

Let me explain a little more. I had downloaded a lot of free books in the past as a trial when iBooks was first released and since then I have decided I no longer want them, because of this I hid them from the purchased section of the iBooks store. The 5 books left are ones I decided to keep as seen in the following picture.
This is how it appears in iBooks on my mac. There are 4 books downloaded and 1 book that I have decided not to download at this time. I would still like to keep this book available in the cloud incase I want to download it again in the future. You’ll notice that hide iCloud books is not selected, if I wanted to hide the book that I have chosen to keep in the cloud, but have not downloaded yet I could.

If you have hidden a book from your purchases it should not show up in the mac Ibooks app. (I am aware you can never actually delete a purchase, just hide them and that hidden purchases can be restored to your account from within the account management section of the iBooks store).

I want to create a document with cascading 'popups'. Not the built-in text-only popup, but an annotation containing an appearance stream that defines text and images. I'm currently using widget annotations based on a pushbutton field.
Each page in my document has many citations that refer to other pages in the document. When a user hovers over the citation, I want a 'popup' to appear containing a depiction of the destination. However, as the destination will itself have citations, I also want the 'popup' to contain citations that the user can hover over, triggering another popup, etc. In this way, a user could navigate throughout the document without leaving the page or even clicking the mouse.
Obviously, with even a modest number of citations per page, pre-calculating and statically defining all of these widgets causes a combinatorial explosion, making the document sluggish and very large.
Instead, I'd like to statically define appearance streams once per document, and then dynamically create annotations and assign the appropriate appearance stream using JS as the user navigates.
So far I've created a named AP in the names dictionary, but I haven't been able to use it to dynamically set an appearance stream of a dynamically created widget annotation.
Also, I've called Doc.getIcon(), passing in the named AP, which returns an Icon object. However, after field.buttonSetIcon() and passing in the named AP, the button does not display the icon.
Is there a way to use a statically defined appearance stream in a dynamically created annotation?

Quick follow-up - I will have many documents embedded within the same pdf file, and some of these documents will contain identical popups. However, I don't want to store identical icons in each document on account of file size.
Instead, I'd like to store one instance of each icon for all documents in the file.
Can I store all of the icons in a single document, and then access them by calling <DocName>.getField().getIcon() from any document in the file?

If it has the same (bad) behavior on two different systems then there is a very good chance that the drive is toast.
BTW you'll get better response to your questions if the question actually reflects the problem you are having. In this case it would have been better to say you couldn't access the drive rather then that it doesn't show on the desktop.
