Is there a way you can make a Numbers file openable by one person at a time

I have several Numbers documents within a shared file and accessible by several users.
Is a way within Numbers (or a workaround) to lock it so that only one user can access and edit it at one time? To stop over writing of data from the user that happens to close the document last.
Any help gratefully received

klank,
The server that stores the files for access by multiple users would need to control the access, not the Numbers application. Applications designed specifically for multiple use may have provisions for controlling access, but iWork is not one of them. Such collaborative uses are becoming more popular and are typically seen in cloud computing apps.
Some servers don't control the access but warn the users if multiple users make changes to a document at the same time. A good example, I think, is DropBox. DropBox creates a new file for each simultaneous user and posts a warning about the conflict. Then you can go back and see what else happened to your document while you had it open and try to straighten out any conflicts manually. As you might imagine, this can be a pain.
