Is this acceptable CSS for basic layout?

Hi there and thank you so long for your help.
My question refers to this link: http://www.energywa.co.za/layout/
Is this acceptable CSS coding? I know I will need to style the #content with classes but don't want to continue with this if the basic layout is not perfect.
Thank you so long for your help & advise.
Regards,
Deon

Is this acceptable CSS coding? I know I will need to style the #content with classes
Why?  It might be entirely possible not to use a single class on this page.
In general your CSS is OK.  Here's how I would modify it -
:root html {
     overflow-y:scroll;
/* this sets scrollbars on for all browsers so that you don't have pages
shift when moving between those that require scrolling and those that don't */
html, body, ul, ol, li, p, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, form, fieldset {
     margin: 0;
     padding: 0;
     border: 0;
body {
    font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
    font-size: 100.01%;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #E2E2E2;
    text-align: center;
#wrapper {
     width: 970px;
     background-color: #FFFFFF;
     margin: 0 auto;
#topnavigation {
     background-color: #7FFF55;
     color: #FFFBF0;
     margin: 0;
     padding: 5px 5px;
     text-align: right;
#header {
     background-color:#FF0000;
     margin: 0 auto; /* without declaring a width, a margin of auto does no good really */
          /* a container div has no default margins, so declaring them is redundant */
     padding: 10px;
#mainnavigation {
     margin: 0 auto; /* see above */
     padding: 10px;
     background-color: #FFFFFF;
     border-bottom: 2px solid #000000;
#content {
     float: left;
     width: 730px;
     background-color: #FFFFFF;
     color: #808080;
     margin: 5px;
     padding: 5px;
     text-align: left;
#rightsider {
     float: right;
     width: 200px;
     background-color: #E0E0E0;
     margin: 5px;
     padding: 5px;
     text-align: left;
#footer {
     clear: both;
     background-color: #FF0000;
     color: #FFFFFF;
     padding: 10px;
     text-align: center;

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Light bleed on screen - is this acceptable / normal for this screen?

    Hi all,
    I wonder if someone could give me some advice as to whether the light bleed I'm experiencing on my Yoga 2 Pro is 'acceptable'. It doesn't bother me in normal day to day tasks like office work, email, web browsing but it's pretty distracting when watching videos in a dark / dim room, particularly where the video itself contains dark scenes or letterboxing.
    I've done a bit of searching on the web it seems that black light bleed is a pretty common issue with these types of displays.
    The following photos were taken on a DSLR in a totally dark room whilst running a video of complete black on youtube:
    Brightness 100% - overexposed a bit in camera to show main areas of light bleed. The lower right corner is the most severe. Light bleed is also quite prevalent along the bottom of the screen.
    Link to image 1
    Brightness 70-80% - exposed to represent as closely as possible what i see when watching the black video in a dark room.
    Link to image 2
    Brightness at 50%
    Link to image 3
    Would this light bleed warrant a return? I bought this from John Lewis in the UK and they have an excellent returns policy. I do love the laptop but the light bleed is pretty annoying. I've seen some images of other peoples light bleed and I worry that if I was to get this replaced I may end up with one with much worse light bleed than what I currently have.
    Any thoughts and advice would be most appreciated.
    Cheers.
    Moderator note: large image(s) converted to link(s):  About Posting Pictures In The Forums

    Ok, I think I have identified the source of the light bleed from the top right corner.  It seems that whatever they use to glue the panel down to the backing has loosened.  If I press down on the top left corner of the screen it is rock solid.  If I press down on the top right side where the light bleed is it flexes downward.  When I push down on the border the light bleed disappears.
    So it would appear I don't have a panel problem, I have a glue problem.  Bummer.  Will contact Lenovo today.  Hopefully getting this fixed won't involve sending my Y2P into some shop for 3 weeks.
    The light bleed sucks but what concerns me more is that the panel's integrity seems to be failing and could get worse.  I hope Lenovo has a local shop that can take a look at this.

  • "Use presets for responsive layout" not working in Chrome

    I am building a responsive website. I am going to have parts of the website animated using Edge Animate. I will make the animation and then insert it into a div in the responsive website I am building.
    The Adobe Edge animation has a width of 100%, so that it resizes according to the area that it occupies the full width of the div no matter how wide that div may be in px.
    It is all working fine, but:
    I have an image in the Edge animation that is center aligned. It must stay center aligned no matter what width the animation ends up being.
    Within Adobe Edge, in Properties, in Position and Size, there is a option where, if you hover your mouse cursor over the top right button a tool tip says "Use presets for responsive layout"
    With the image on the stage selected, I can click on the "Use presets for responsive layout" button and then choose "Centre background Image".
    It works perfectly in all browsers accept Chrome (even IE is playing ball this time). In chrome the width of the image stretches out as the div stretches out..
    The "Centre background Image" setting says that it won't scale the image. But in Chrome it does.
    What can I do to "tell" Edge Animate to center the image but not scale it in the Chrome browser?
    I can see that in the image properties it is set to Background image x axis and y axis 50%. And the width is set to pixels. But in Chrome, the image stretches.
    If you go to http://www.brainstormadvertising.co.uk/demo/services.html you will see what I mean. The circle image is centering BUT stretching in chrome browsers while centering nicely and NOT stretching in other browsers.

    Thank you for your reply Josh. But the point of this setting in Edge Animate is that you can set it up that the background image is center aligned and does not scale. Yet it produces code that gives the width as 21.72%.
    A little further along I see background-size: 48px; .  This is correct.
    So all the browers are reading background-size: 48px; as the scale measurement but Chrome is reading the width only, not the background-width. So this "Use presets for responsive layout" works in all browsers except chrome.
    I don't know how to change that code after the artwork has been published. I can see the code using Firebug, but where do I change it in my code on my computer before uploading to the server?
    I have reported this bug to Adobe.
    Please see the attachment. You can see where all the settings are made and where I am getting a problem.

  • Mac pro 13 (2014) or Mac Air (2014) for basic Photoshop use

    I am a college senior about to enter the advertising industry and want to get a Mac as it is the industry standard in the ad world and to brush up on my Photoshop skills. I am looking for a mac computer priced between $1,000-$1,500 with education discount. Please let me know what you think would be an acceptable comp for basic photo shop and Imovie editing. The primary use of this computer will be word docs and watching Netflix etc. very low use programs. Please let me know what builds would be best for this very moderate PS use. Thank you in advance for your help!

    RAM and some serious PCIe-SSD storage will help Aperture/LR. But I am use to spreading things out, learned long ago the benefits on concurrent and never reading+writing though didn't have todays 1.2Gb SSD to play with.
    Was not to move the thread,  but to ask there also for first hand on how they like the 2013 iMac now. I just don't feel comfortable spending that much when I know Mac Pro is designed for heavy use, better thermals, IS upgradeable, and will last longer.

  • CSS positioning for complext layout

    I've been creating web page layouts with tables for many
    years now and realise that it's time to move to CSS positioning
    instead. Having gone through various tutorials, I've mastered the
    art of creating a 3-column layout, however the design I'm working
    on at the moment needs to be more complex than this. Here's a link
    to the page layout I'm trying to achieve:
    http://www.sweatshop.co.uk/dev/pagelayout.htm
    Is this too complex for CSS positioning? Would I be better
    off using tables? Or can anyone point me in the direction of more
    detailed tutorials that might help me achieve this using CSS?
    Thanks in advance.

    Starting with this, you have errors in your CSS code.
    body {

  • Is this software for 'basic' users?

    Hi,
    I have been looking to purchase the Lightroom software, mainly because my friends have advised me to.
    I am a painter and decorator in Stoke-on-Trent, so I aren't the most computer savviest of people. I am entirely comfortable with most software packages, Photoshop being an example.
    Is there any experienced users out there which could advise me on this, the software looks really good and I'm on the edge of purchasing it!
    Cheers.

    I'm getting mixed messages here .
    I don't have a lot to add to what Paige & John have already said, except:
    What I like about Lightroom over Bridge/Photoshop is:
    * Develop edit history (and photo comparison features..).
    * Publish services.
    * Plugins, which have completely automated my workflow.
    * It looks cool, and the neutral gray means the only color comes from your photos.
    (among other things).
    But I know people who:
    * Dont use develop edit history much.
    * Dont use publish services at all.
    * Avoid plugins like the plague .
    * Dont particularly care for the gray interface (or think it's ugly).
    (among other things)
    Some of those people have *other* things in Lightroom they find compelling, and some are (or would be) better off sticking with Bridge/Photoshop.
    So, you really need to download it and try it and explore to see whether you would make use of any of it's unique features or not...
    I mean (for example), Bridge/Photoshop doesn't have a map module - if you want that, you need to use Lightroom, but if you dont care about "mapping", map-module is a "dont care"...........
    But to answer the question posed in the thread title: No - Lightroom is not for 'basic' users (in my opinion). It takes a fair amount of learning to be proficient, and is aimed more at supporting fast editing of (and automated exporting of) large bunches of photos, after you have the experience to do so, than it is at being easy to learn. I'm sure some people disagree...... (and on the other hand, it's way easier to learn than Photoshop - again: that's just my opinion).
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • How Do I Use a SINGLE Custom CSS for My Project?

    How do I set a single CSS for a project?
    Currently, I have linked (I checked, they are actually linked) FM files. The project is Responsive HTML 5 Single Source Layout. It is set up this way:
    Project Files
    Each FM file has a folder that contains a CSS, an FPJ, any baggage (PNG, for example) and an HTM.
    So, for my project, I have 31 such folders.
    Above them is RHStyleMapping.css.
    That's it
    To map my project to a custom CSS, I did this:
    1) Created the custom CSS (let's call it TheSingleCSS-sb01.css) and put it in the same location as RHStyleMapping.css.
    2) Right-clicked Responsive HTML5 (Primary Layout) in the Single Source Layouts pane.
    3) Selected Properties. The Responsive HTML5 Properties dialog box opens.
    4) Click Content, select  the Apply to all Topics check box, select CSS, and choose my CSS, TheSingleCSS-sb01.css.
    5) Click Save and Generate. Generating happens.
    6) When prompted, click View Result.
    7) Double-click one of the resulting topics, and choose the HTML tab.
    8) Notice the following CSS files are referenced, NOT the one I want:
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="Configuration_ChangeWorkflow.css" type="text/css" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="..\..\RHStyleMapping.css" type="text/css" />
    <image>
    So:
    1) How can I replace 32 individual CSSes with one single custom CSS?
    2) Also note that Project Manager does not display my custom CSS, even though it is in the same location as RHStyleMapping.css and referenced in the Properties dialog box.
    Thanks all,
    Sean

    Hi, so as I mentioned before, I have used Apply to all and this doesn't work. The resulting HTML still uses a specific CSS for that one HTML file.
    1) I put the CSS I want to use, Sean01.css, in the top level of my project using Windows Explorer.
    2) I Save and Generate.
    3) But, my settings for styles in the CSS are not used. For example, FM_GlossaryDefinition is defined with a 0 left indent but actually uses a 144pt indent (that mirrors the print FM document and that I do not want).
    4) And, you can see from the actual HTML, that the Sean01.css file that I applied to all topics (see the first image) is not referenced. What am I doing wrong?
    What am I doing wrong? Again, these are imported FM files; this is not linked.
    Thanks,
    Sean

    Hi @RUkiddingme
    You can download the full feature software and driver, and only install the basic driver. In the installation you should see the option for custom software. Here is the link to download the software; rw2_021_w02_enu.exe

  • In Fluid Grid layout, I have hidden 2 div for mobile layout. How do I unhide them?

    In Fluid Grid layout, I have hidden 2 <div> for mobile layout. How do I unhide them?

    Hi there,
    I visited your site using Dreamweaver CC and tested it using the default Desktop, Tablet and Mobile sizes, followed by the Smart Phone Size.
    The CSS you currently have sets the featurest <div> to 'display: none' when viewed on screen sizes lower than 480px:
    Another helpful way to find out what is going on with your CSS is to test the site with Firefox using Web Developer Tools to inspect the element (or alternatively, Adobes Inspect tool). You can right-click the image and "Inspect Element" then resize the browser window so you can see exactly which CSS rule is being applied and overrided.
    My suggestion would be to add an additional media query in Dreamweaver to handle all screen sizes below 480px and then set divs or elements you want to hide or show display property to visible.
    Hope this helps!

  • Can I do this with CSS applied to layers?

    I'm very new to Dreamweaver (one week), so I apologize if my
    question is
    elementary.
    This is what I' like to do:
    I'm working with the design interface, not directly coding.
    I have many frames on a page and I'd like to apply the same
    CSS to all of
    them so they all take the same color, border, typography...
    but of course
    NOT the same position! Also, later I can modify all of them
    by just making
    changes to the CSS (for exemple, the background color).
    But the CSS affects the positions of all the layers. I tried
    the "stable"
    option in positioning but the layers still move (in another
    way but move).
    Is this possible? How can I do?
    Thanks in advance.

    Frames have no significance or meaning to CSS.

  • Positioning css for IE11

    I am removing all the Spry lists and changing to pure CSS for my drop-down lists.
    I bought Project 7 software to do this on the recommendation of posts in this forum.
    The horizontal list that starts with 'contact us' etc, is supposed to be located at the bottom of the vertical lists works fine on all browsers, but will not stay in place on IE11. It works just fine on my current index page (thanks to Nancy O).

    Any suggestions? I removed our photo and information about us to try and make it work easier, but no good! This is my experimental page.....

You have several markup and CSS errors, as well as a failure to properly clear floats. This is common when using Adobe CSS tools. If you can find the time to actually contact us, we would be happy to help you debug your page. I ask that you do that because using this forum is about as pleasant as a root canal for me.

    Since you don’t allow emails any more – I suspect because of the numerous complaints with your service and the way you treat people that you don’t want documented, I am calling and I want this call recorded for future reference.
    I have been a long time faithful customer of vzw and although the past year I have been late on payments many times and really couldn’t afford your exorbitant prices for services lots of other companies offer sometimes three times cheaper than what you charge, I have hung in there trying my best to meet my obligations.
    This month has been no exception. You don’t know the background; the whole story of people’s lives. I know you could care less because all you care about is the profit-the money that comes in.
    I was told when I agreed to pay my bill on the third per the recorded message that I had 14 days to pay…you cut me off anyway. The phones are not the tissue; your suspending my service means I cannot work. I may lose my job…how do you justify that? In any case? The least you could do would be to keep 4986 on and cut the phones off. But no. You refuse to compromise and meet the basic needs of your customer. What does that say about your company? I tried to call back on three separate occasions to tell you I couldn’t pay because of unexpected expenses but couldn’t get out of the automated system…sadly couldn’t get to a real person which also speaks volumes to me.
    All this tells me this is a company I don’t wish to be affiliated with any more. As soon as I can, I will discontinue service with you…I know you could care less. I will honor the remaining portion of the contract but that’s it. You don’t deserve my business. I am a good, hardworking person who, at the sacrifice of myself and my needs, always pays her bills…albeit late at times. I realize others tell you stories and lies to justify themselves. That’s not me. If you knew what I had been through the last 7 yrs you would marvel that I am  still on my feet…don’t judge too quickly. You could be wrong…and in my eyes you are by doing this to me.
    God will see us through this extremely scary time of that I have no doubt. No thanks to your company and lack of understanding and mercy. I am doing the best I can. Sadly you are not.
    See I have choices. MANY choices of providers for services you offer. I don’t have to be treated like this. I don’t have to succumb to your coldness and callousness. I intend to choose better (and cheaper). If your company doesn’t get the “people factor” back you will be sorry.

    Problem here is you admit you cannot afford the service.
    And you want to blame Verizon for losing a job because you have no cell phone.
    If your job depends on that phone I would pay it on time every time if you need a job to pay your bill.
    No other service is going to treat you any different. And if you cannot afford Verizon's monthly invoice how are you going to afford new devices, activation fees, possible security deposits on any other cellular carrier? You can't.
    Also if you made an arraignment to pay and then decide you cannot do so, why should Verizon extend you service or credit, or why is it you want to use the service and data and not pay for it as agreed.
    Get a prepay phone. Its evident the cost is too high for you to afford on post pay.
    Good Luck

    Bought Premier Elements 13 yesterday. EVERY time I try to open a set of clips with Editor, I am told I have to sign into my Adobe first. I do this and wait for several minutes for the password dialogue box to open, enter my password. then wait and wait until my pw is recognized. Accept agreement. Agreement screen disappears and I'm back where I started. Try to open video clips with editor again and get the same demand to log in. Please advise asap. thx

    Please do not duplicate a thread. The threads are answered as soon as possible. We are not Adobe. Just user to user.
    I have answered your most recent of the duplicates
    Premier Elements 13 Organizer Works. Editor doesn't. Log in doesn't work
    It is uncertain just how far we can go to help you since you do not appear to have Premiere Elements any
    longer.Seems you demanded a refund from Adobe Chat, got it, and now are left with a non purchased program which I
    am not sure can be used.
    Duplicates tend to confuse the person asking the question as well as those attempting to reply. As I suggested in the
    above mentioned thread, try to sort out your situation with Adobe via its Adobe Chat.

  • Trying to dynamically load CSS for project at compile time via config XML file to select CSS file.

    I'm using the same code base to compile different versions of a project. Each project has different base fonts. I've created multiple css files that use the same style names. The idea being that in the code I reference the style names, then the loaded CSS determines which font (and size, color, etc) is used for each style name.
    The CSS files are compiling to SWFs, and those SWFs are referenced in config.xml files. Before compiling, I select the config file to use.
    I am loading the CSS SWF files via the StyleManager in the Application.mxml, like so:
      styleManager.loadStyleDeclarations( _contentData.elements( 'cssPath' ).@path )
    The path traces out correctly as:
    assets_embed/styles/project2.swf
    For some reasone I must include an fx:Style line in the Application.mxml file or no fonts are recognized. Example:
      <fx:Style source="assets_embed/styles/project1.css"/>
    If I reference the css for project one (as done above) then most, but not all, styles work. Some styles reference the fonts from the project 1 css, others properly use fonts from project 2 swf. If I point to the CSS for the project I'm compiling in the <fx:Style > tag then all fonts work, but that defeats the goal of using XML rather than code to identify the styles.
    So, why do I need the fx:Style line if the css is being loaded via StyleManager?
    Why is there "cross talk" between style definitions?
    Is there a better way to select styles at compile time?

    I read this quickly so I might have missed a detail.  I think your describing an issue with recent Flex releases that is described in the fine print somewhere.  If you don't have any fonts embedded in the main app and are only bringing in fonts embedded in CSS SWFs, you have to force-link the EmbeddedFontRegistry by adding something like this to the main app's script block.
    import mx.core.EmbeddedFontRegistry; EmbeddedFontRegistry;
    (Yes, "EmbeddedFontRegistry" is in there twice, once to define the fully qualified name, the other to create a class dependency to force the linking).
