Is this software for 'basic' users?

Hi,
I have been looking to purchase the Lightroom software, mainly because my friends have advised me to.
I am a painter and decorator in Stoke-on-Trent, so I aren't the most computer savviest of people. I am entirely comfortable with most software packages, Photoshop being an example.
Is there any experienced users out there which could advise me on this, the software looks really good and I'm on the edge of purchasing it!

I don't have a lot to add to what Paige & John have already said, except:
What I like about Lightroom over Bridge/Photoshop is:
* Develop edit history (and photo comparison features..).
* Publish services.
* Plugins, which have completely automated my workflow.
* It looks cool, and the neutral gray means the only color comes from your photos.

But I know people who:

Some of those people have *other* things in Lightroom they find compelling, and some are (or would be) better off sticking with Bridge/Photoshop.
So, you really need to download it and try it and explore to see whether you would make use of any of it's unique features or not...
I mean (for example), Bridge/Photoshop doesn't have a map module - if you want that, you need to use Lightroom, but if you dont care about "mapping", map-module is a "dont care"...........
But to answer the question posed in the thread title: No - Lightroom is not for 'basic' users (in my opinion). It takes a fair amount of learning to be proficient, and is aimed more at supporting fast editing of (and automated exporting of) large bunches of photos, after you have the experience to do so, than it is at being easy to learn. I'm sure some people disagree...... (and on the other hand, it's way easier to learn than Photoshop - again: that's just my opinion).

Hi all
Have seen a couple threads regarding this but unfortunately nothing that solves my problem thus far!
Right now, our developers are using the Domain Admin account to promote their website code using MSI files. I'd like to change this as I feel the Domain Admin account should be on lock down and only used when absolutely necessary, pretty common. The
same goes for my account too, I would like to absolve as much use of the Domain Admin as I can.
Problem is, when they run installers from their own accounts, they receive this error: You do not have sufficient privileges
to complete this installation for all users of the machine. Log on as administrator and then retry this installation
The accounts they are using are part of the Built In Administrators group and the Domain Admins group... I'm not sure what other permission you'd need in a domain? We've gone as far as explicitly giving them local admin access on this server and still
nothing changes.
Is there a Group Policy or something that I can change to provide install rights and possibly remove these accounts as Domain Admin and more along the line of Power User?

While using skype on my iphone 4s i found after an hour or so the iphone was very warm and actually bit hot. Is this normal for other users too?

I thought I had found the offending 'app' namely "Songpop."
I regularly use "Songpop" on my phone late at night via my wifi connection.
All enteries on my phonebill are at midnight (even though I have a data allowance it was excluded from allowance). I switched 3G off on Friday, played "Songpop" at midnight and at the exact time I got a "Server Error" message.
I posted a message on the "Songpop" support forum.At first they said this was a problem relating to my ISP.
I have spoken to my ISP and asked if there are connection drops at the time I have been billed (ie to establish if my wifi dropped and 3G kicked in without my knowledge) and have been advised that there aren't any connection drops at that time.

When spanning new tabs (firefox) my users are asked to re-authenticate with pages already signed into. Can you tell me how to fix this issue for firefox users?

With some research I found regedit setting called “TabProcGrowth” that allows tabs to span without re-authenticating with certain browsers. Can you tell me how to fix this issue for my Mozilla Firefox users? Our current version of Mozilla Firefox is: 24.5.0 (x86 en-US). This was first noticed with a product called Confluence that we use in our Tech Support area. Users are having to reenter their password every time they click on a new link in confluence. Any help would be appreciated.

As long as you are accessing your internal server on http:// or https:// then I would expect the normal rules to apply. To see whether some external requests are being blocked, you might try using Firefox's Web Console, Network tab.
You can open the console in the lower part of a tab using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+k
* "3-bar" menu button > Developer > Web Console
* (menu bar) Tools menu > Web Developer > Web Console
Click "Network" on the top bar of the Web Console.
Then use the address bar or a bookmark to launch Confluence in the same tab. Each request made by Firefox should be displayed along with the result. You can click a row for more details.

ITune sync is not well designed on PC for basic users

I don't have a iPhone, I'm the guy people call when they have computer problems.
One of this person have lost all is iPhone contacts and agenda. He tried to sync with Outlook but did it the wrong way, replacing empty Outlook contact and agenda on the iPhone. Before this error, the sync worked well, but the problem is the way sync is done you can't recover from this bad manipulation.
Apple, you should do it this way:
- When user connect the iPhone, a wizard appear and ask if you want to sync, backup or restore the phone. Basic users never use right buttons. Advanced user can disable the Wizard.
- When backup is chosen the wizard ask where to save the zip file. Default directory should be My Documents\iPhone and default name iPhonebackup_YYYYMMDDHHMMSS.zip. Application Data is not a good choice because it's never backup apps default selection and it's hidden.
- When restore is chosen, user pick the zip file, confirm everything will be erased, and go.
This way, people should have correct iPhone backup because the wizard help them to think about it.

Software for all Users

New iMac. Purchased MS Office 2011. Loaded under my Username. Software doesn't appear in the other Usernames on the same computer. Do I need to load it for each person? How can I get it to be accessible to all Users on this computer?

Thanks for double-checking. It's all where it belongs.
I just created a new user (because I have only one, usually), and MS Office was available and fully functional for this user as well, as expected.
IOW, other users on your Mac should also be able to access and use MS Office apps. The only easy way I can think of to prevent it is those user accounts to be restricted, e.g. via Parental Controls. But even then they should be able to see the apps, just be unable to launch them.
If they can't even see MS Office in their Applications folder, like on your machine, that's strange.
Last input from my end before I'd have to give up:
To see if something is "wrong" with the existing other users, you may also create one more new one, just temporarily for testing purposes (you can delete it immediately after again incl its home folder).
- If this new user can't see or access the Office apps either (but other 3rd-party non-Apple apps), something must have gone wrong during the Office install for some reason unknown. It's a royal PITA, but you may want to consider completely deleting Office, then re-installing.
- If this new user can use the Office apps, something must be wrong with the existing other users. Instead of digging deeper, practically the easiest thing you should consider is re-creating these other users from scratch, bringing their data and documents over from the old to the new accounts, then deleting the old ones. I trust you're backing your Mac up, so nothing can get lost.

Help functionality for basic users

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good way to implement a help functionality in your dashboards.
The users that work with our dashboards overall don't have much experience with IT, so i'd like to make a buildin function.
This could either be a question mark at every rapport to explain what it does and how you do it, or perhaps a F1 index help like you get with Outlook.
Does anyone have better ideas or could point out to me a good option?

If you have your sample sales webcat and rpd with you that comes with your install(10.1.3.4) you can check the dashboards there. They have implemented the Help functionality with a link and a report.
Any ways Let me explain
Create a sample report with a dummy object and directly go to your static text and you can include what ever text you need like how to use the dashboards or what is that dashboard used for etc etc. Save the report
Now go to your dashboard page and add the link object present on the left side pane and at the destination simple reference this request. Type "Help" in the caption.
you can simply use the fmap functionality in the image layout if you have one. Sample referecing as shown below

You can download the images online and make sure you store them under
C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res folder

When there will be an update to CS6 softwares for MAC users on Lion OsX 10.7.4 ?

Many users of the CS6 softwares complain about issues since their upgrade to CS6 with MAc OsX Lion 10.7.4 . For my part, I lost the use of my internal speaker and all videos in YouTube are soundless and freeze at 12 seconds. iTunes doesn't playback my mp3 but in Premiere, I 've got sound. I can't even adjust the volume of my speakers.

I have been running Lion (currently 10.7.4) for many months on an iMac and a MacBook Pro. In fact, Lion is about to be upgraded to Mountain Lion.
I have had no attributable problems when heavily running InDesign CS6, Illustrator CS6, Photoshop CS6 and other CS6 applications occasionallly.
Loss of internal speakers and ability to play YouTube videos may be Lion issues for you but it has nothing to do with Adobe. You might ask about those issues on the Apple Community Forums, or by visiting the Genius Bar at an Apple store.

I am looking for a POS software for multi-users with mobility via 3G and Wi-Fi

Our company distributes food products to grocery, convenient and pharmacy stores, etc. We currently have an old cumbersome hard to use PC system that interfaces with driver's handhelds, keeps records of sales and monitors inventories on trucks and several warehouses. All our company uses MAC systems with the exception of this PC system. The closest I've come to find a MAC software is Lightspeed but it lacks mobility. Does any one know a good reliable POS system with Mobility hopefully to utilize either iPhones with bar code readers?

Pages can export documents in MS Word format. When I last did this (with Pages '09, the Mac version), the result was a .doc file.
Note that this is a translation, and like most translations, it's not always a perfect one. Some features of Pages are not supported in MS Word, and some Word features are not supported in Pages.

Can we make 3.6.2* version of firefox to update to latest version like FF 7? Instead of patches 3.6.2*? This is for office user who are not allowed to download FF7 which offers far better feature! Make it optional ?

I have FF7 @ home. simple mistake which is very irritating also is, in 3.6.2*, right-click-> 1st option -> Open in New Window but in FF 4 onwards its right-click -> 1st option -> Open in new tab!!
Have it optional , check for update .. or get latest ff
I can not download the FF from site, so if possible please do this!

But if none of those boot flags work for you, then there's not much you can do, and you'll have to write a script to reload the module each time after initial boot finishes I guess until the module gets fixed.
Also, power management of the PCIe interface causes the e1000e to shut off after a while as well (lots of people on CentOS noticing this):

WebStart Single Install for multiple users

Has anyone figured out how to solve the problem of having to install the software for multiple users now?
With recent versions of the Sun WebStart, the cache directory has changed to the user's personal directory.
It used to be that the cache directory was a common shared directory off the C: drive.
For the software we have developed, it was great to install once as the admin, download the files so that they are cached, and then copy the links to the all users desktop which pointed at that shared location.
Now there appears to be no way to do this. We've looked to find the default cache location to change it, but there is no way to specify this (that we've found).
I know I can change each user's cache directory to point to a common location, but it means signing on as each user and making this change manually which takes a considerable more time than it did before. Java WebStart was the EASY way to install the software before (and did not require a browser). Now it is harder than just using a browser with the plugin. We'd like to get the browser out of the picture though still.
I can see how this feature could benifit individual users who only want their own programs to show up , but we really need to make it work like before for ease of use. With the number of users we are dealing with, it would be very difficult to tell them to click on a link to install the program but only do that the first time, then start using the new link that is created by the program.
Any suggestions from anyone?

How good is this software?

Years ago I remember playing with Sound Edit Pro on my LC III. Since then I bought SoundMaker (which still runs in classic).
This software may be overkill is all I really need a sound editor for is my website. I do not do professional video. My needs are far more than what the built in garbage provides with Mac/Windows but not enough for professional software.
So what do you guys use this software for? Is it film? Radio?

This is great software for using with a website. I use STPro for both audio and film scoring. I am a webmaster. I am currently using STPro for my fourth self-produced music CD. My last CD was done in a really good studio with Pro Tools. I was ready to buy Pro Tools, but I had Sound Track and started trying it out. With the upgrade to STPro, there is nothing in Pro Tools I can't do in STPro except record multiple tracks in. (Since I do mostly vocal, guitar and overdubs this is unimportant for me.)
I don't have crashes, mixes that sound different, or other problems. It took me a while to learn the basics of reverb and compression/limiting, but the info is there to read in the manuals. The presets save me lots of time. The ability to use my keyboard (M-Audio49e) in Garageband to access the software instruments and then bring them back into STPro has been wonderful. I have been recording on the Mac since 1999.
The key has been this forum. I have learned so much thanks to all the Pro's who volunteer their time. I hope this helps you figure out if STPro is what you want to use.

Mac iTunes 10.6.1 Will Now Not Launch For Any User Under MacOS 10.7.4.

My MacBookPro4,1 (Spring 2008) went in for repairs to have a mother board replaced.
During the repair, I pulled the hard drive with system 10.7.4 installed and booted from it using the newest MacBookPro.
After the repair, I re-installed the hard drive in the MacBookPro4,1. Now iTunes 10.6.1 will not launch.
This happens for *all* users on my system.
I looked in /Library for anything "iTunes" in the file name and removed it, but still, it crashes.
Any ideas on where else to look and/or what could be going on here?

Appreciate the comments and I have done a bit more reasearch. I have eight computers on the network. Six Macs and two PCs. All but one have iTunes on them. Of the six that have iTunes, the two Macs running OS 10.7.4 and iTunes 10.6.3 (25) do not see the Apple TV when I attempt to connect to a computer from the Apple TV. The other four Macs see the connect request in the devices on iTunes. The Windows PC running Windows 7 on an AMD processor and iTunes 10.6.3 can also see the connect request.
Of the two systems running MacOS 10.7.4, one is an Intel Core i5 and the other is an Intel Core 2 Duo. Baring some other evidence, my conclusion is that there is a problem with the MacOS 10.7.4 and iTunes 10.6.3 combination.
Fall back position is move my iTunes and iPhoto libraries back to my older Mac mini and sync the AppleTV to that computer.

Is this software for 'basic' users?
