Is this project a good candidate for BizTalk?

Hi all
We have a project as outlined below, I’d like your input to understand if BizTalk is a suitable candidate assuming cost is not an issue and we'll have other uses for BizTalk.
- 300+ retail sites
- Sales transaction information stored in a DBF file
- DBF file updated with latest sales information by placing a marker file which initiates an external program to update the file
- DBF file will grow from 0MB (no records) to up to 3.5MB (9000 records)
- Once the DBF is updated it can be picked up in some way by BizTalk
- Assume I just want to store the raw data in a SQL table but need to ensure BizTalk will only add new records
Without getting into what exactly i expect BizTalk to do with the file does the process of collecting files from multiple remote sites\processing 3.5MB\9000 records sound like a typical use case?
My main worry is picking up files from 300+ remote sites and hearing that these files may grow 10x as they are converted to XML - don’t know if this is something to look into or nothing to worry about.

Its typical use case but for SQL-SSIS. SSIS data source connection manager has connection properties to Dbase files( dBASE 5.0) access the Dbase file and send to SQL Server
table.
For this type of ETL process which could involve high message volumes (may in future) I would consider using SQL SSIS not BizTalk. With SSIS you can access files from remote
server, extract it upload/insert the record from Dbase to SQL table. Why do you need to “BizTalk” or “message box” or “publish-subscription” for this ETL process? I would consider SQL-SSIS for this requirement.

Finding out objects good candidates for reorganization ( datafile shrink)

I need to find out what can objects are good candidates for reorganization to allow shrinking some datafiles. one of the challenges i have is to try and figure out how i can release some space from the tablespace in one of our environment .Please let me know if you have any scripts for this.

Either on a tablespace by tablespace basis or as a general statement which of the following statements are more true than the other statements.
1) More data is being INSERTED into the DB than being DELETED. In other words total disk space consumption is increasing?
2) About the same amount of data in being INSERTED as being DELETED. In other words the amount of disk space consumed is at equilibrium.
3) More data is being DELETED than being INSERTED. In other words less data is being held in the DB as time progresses.

Would this be a good IMac for serious audio and video production?

I am looking for a imac that is good for serious music recording in protools or cubase and serious HD video editing and effects with adobe premiere pro and after effects. Would this be a good idea for saving some space on 1st drive?

I have sort of run out of space on my original drive
until i can get more RAM so that it may stop spinning beach balls.. the space taken up is nowhere near the max, but it's obvious I need to speed it up a bit, asi can here the processor working overtime... (I have the stock 1GB, but I should be using 2GB to 4GB of RAM!)
My new second drive is now where the backup of the first drive resides (YAY!)
My question is, what should I do to put stuff from the first drive that is taking up so much space, onto the second drive?
I was thinking this is the best way:
1) Make an alias of each thing I can move temporaraily to the second drive.
2) Place the aliases on the desktop instead of the actual files themselves.
3) Make a folder for the actual files called:
"Stuff i would rather keep on my desktop if i had enough RAM" and put them all in that folder.
4) Move that folder to the second drive until i get more RAM.
I am guessing the second drive is only active with RAM when i use it as the main desktop drive.
Maybe there is a better way.. ? thank you

I just want to help clear some things up as you may be confused about what is happening on your computer.
1. Are you short on hard disk space or RAM? You say the space taken up is nowhere near the max, so I wonder if what you really need is just more RAM.
RAM is used by the computer to store information about currently running programs and the operating system. You don't necessarily use RAM directly as a user (ie to store files, etc).
Hard Disk space is used by you directly to store all your files, programs and operating system. When you save a video file on your computer it is taking up Hard Disk space.
2. If you have, say, over 10GB of Hard Disk space left you should be OK. You say you can hear the processor working overtime. The processor is actually silent in its operation. You are most likely hearing your Hard Disk reading and writing data. If it's making a lot of noise, this probably means you are swapping out RAM memory onto your Hard Disk due to low RAM. So this is a sign that, yes, you do need more RAM.
3. All of your ideas 1 to 4 aren't very good at all. Using aliases is generally a bad plan for using files. What I would suggest is, if you really are short on Hard Disk space, finding out what is taking up all your space. There must be something. It'll most likely be music or video. Then, just move all that music or video on to your new drive.

Does this PC have good specs for after effects?

I am limited to these 2 options only.
I will be using the computer mainly for video editing and some 3d work(mainly title sequences using some 3d text and). Also i will be using AFter effects for special effects such as explosions and what not.
Im really confused and a newbie when it comes to specs needed on your comp to run after effects properly. Given the 2 options, New Apple mac pro or the PC with the specs listed above. What would be my best option? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest the X79 platform with the 4930K 6 Core CPU or better. If you get the Asrock Extreme 9 boards then the E5 V2 Xeons up to the 12 Core Xeons are available just like the nMPro. That becomes a major upgrade option later if your workflow changes. The workstation system would also push a 780GTX or 780TI card far better. I would suggest the 780Ti btw over the 780GTX. I would definitely suggest the PC over the nMPro for Adobe especially AE at this point unless you just require OSX.

Adobe Camera Raw in Premier Pro. This is a good idea for CinemaDNG files.

Adobe, I will be cool if the was a ARC plugin in premier pro. Here is a simpler solution. I own in Blackmagic cinema camera, but my BMD LOG camera profiles are in After Effects. I like to grade from LOG profiles. In a test, in premier I imported my DNG files and edit. Then replaced with After effects comp, when after effects opened ACR opened. BUT it just opened the first file not the whole sequence!!!!!!!!!!!.
to clarify
1. import DNG sequence in premier and edit
2. select edits and open as comp in After effects
3. ACR opens, I edit as normal in ACR (IT ONLY EDIT THE FIRST FRAME IN SEQUENCE) which it only shows.
if you allow us to select all frames and sync and save like ACR in Bridge that would be dope!
Plus go back in premier and make edits, that would be cooler.
or the coolest is to just have a ACR plugin for premier pro.

Is JSF a good candidate for Login pages?

Hi all,
In a JSF-based web app, should the login page be JSF-based at all? It seems any JSF page assumes we have a live session, with the component tree and all that stuff. But before a user is logged in, there may not be a session. If a JSF login paged is used, I encounter problems with my session timing out, causing the page to simply refresh itself when you login. Then the user has to login a 2nd time to be successful.
Should I use a simple JSP page? Is there any way a JSF-based login page will work?

Eric, JSF works just fine building a login page. If you have webserver sessions enabled, as soon as an user requests a page a session is created, so there will be a session active for the first view of the login page.
Sessions timing out have little to do with JSF per se; is the user waiting for longer than your timeput period before clicking OK on the login page? Are you mixing JSP/JSTL/JSF in non-allowed ways?
As an aside, consider saving an authentication token client-side so you can restart sessions (with checks for IP, etc), and using a servlet filter to check for logged-in ness

Am I a good candidate for the iPhone?

In April, I will be out of contract with Sprint. I currently have a Palm Centro and I use the **** out of certain features. The only thing I'm not loving about the iPhone is the lack of hard keyboard, but I've played with the iPhone enough to know that it won't be a huge problem. The important things to me are:
*Internet Radio (I use Pocket Tunes Deluxe on my Centro)
*Calender
*Alarm Clock (I need at least 3 alarms)
*Memo
*A built in phone number/address/reverse lookup app (like TryDA for palm)
*A weather/traffic/theater showtimes, etc. app
*Push email from Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc.
I know I can do some of these things in Safari, but having a shortcut is great. I've become spoiled to how customized my Centro is for ME, and I'd just like to know I'll be getting the same out of the iPhone. Also, how fast are 3G speeds compared with EDGE speeds? I've become spoiled to how fast EV-DO is on Sprint and ATT's coverage map shows my house in an EDGE location. If it's too slow, I'm just going to hold out until ATT has a bigger 3G footprint.

Here are the answers to your questions:
1-There are plenty of internet radio apps in the appstore and they are all free (that I know of, I currently have 5 different ones downloaded)
2-There is a calendar on the iPhone and you can also sync it with MobileME (Apple's internet program that will sync data between your computer, phone, internet) and Outlook.
3-I don't know what the max cap on Alarms are, but I've set 6 alarms for a day at one point.
4-There is a notepad application (plus many more in the appstore)
5-There are apps available from the appstore that will allow you to search contacts, etc.
6-There is a default weather app that is included in the iPhone, and there are more available in the appstore. I believe there are also traffic apps as well. There are apps for movie theaters and all the info you'll need.
7-There is push email from Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, Exchange Server (2003 and higher), and you can put in others, but it depends on whether they will support them or not. I do know that for Hotmail you have to purchase an app from the appstore which is $9.99.
8-You can create shortcuts for specific webpages that will be on your "desktop" of the iphone.
9-The 3G speeds are 3 times faster or more than Edge speeds. I switch between using Edge and 3G because of coverage (*You have to make sure that 3G is in your area otherwise you'll only have access to Edge*). You can check to see AT&T's 3G coverage area by clicking the link below, you'll see the View 3G/Mobile Broadband coverage link at the bottom right.

Also, the iPhone doesn't have MMS, so you have to use the email as a workaround. People can send the pictures, videos, sounds, etc to your email address from their phone, and you can send pictures through email to their phone as an MMS message.

Goods receipt for a Project Order

I am doing this in order to book actual cost against a WBS element.

The system status of WBS should be REL ie released. Also check whether current user status is restricting business operation of GR.

Can I possibly get Premiere to work for this project?

Hi. I am working on a time lapse scanner photography project. I scan flowers a few times an hour and then make videos of them drying out. I'm currently making a movie of it all. The thing is, the scans can be thousands of pixels high/wide. The problem arises when I make sequences with 20 or more of these videos (scaled down to around 10% in Premiere) moving together. It becomes almost unusable on my older Macbook Pro. Doing the more complex parts of it is also very inconvenient on a new iMac. Because I'm working with so many files, I tried out After Effects. Its proxying feature excited me, but it soon became clear that AE is meant mostly for shorter projects, and not for clips that can get 40 GB + in size. For example, in trying to make tiny proxies of clips last night, only four succeeded. It seems that the rendering is centered on your available RAM, and when it runs out (a few seconds into the first clip) rendering becomes very slow. This might work for ads or something, but not for this project. Maybe I'm not using it correctly though.
So I don't know what to do. I've tried a proxy workaround for Premiere, but that seems to involve working with clips at the resolution you made the proxy at, unlike AE where you can work with a now-more-blurry version of your main file. I tried making a tiny proxy manually, and then upscaling it in Quicktime Pro 7, but that seems to also be slow for Premiere, leading me to think that multiplying the one clip in my test sequence by 20 or more wouldn't be that different.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how do edit a project like this with a reasonably responsive UI? I don't care if I have to spend hours rendering proxies, or rendering the final copy afterwards, I just want to be able to edit without waiting for minutes when I click on a 20 layer part of the movie. I understand that this is probably an abnormal way of using Premiere, as normally one only uses a few layers at a time.
Another idea I had was to do the parts of the movie with 20+ layers in AE, and import them in Premiere to get around AE's focus on shorter lengths. But this doesn't get around the issue that its proxying feature, and rendering engine in general seems to be tailoured towards shorter projects. If you are confused, that's okay, I can elaborate more and provide pictures.

ATI cards will not work for GPU acceleration of the Mercury Playback Engine and only Nvidia cards with at least 1 GB or RAM and at least 96 CUDA cores will allow for a good experience when using the GPU enable Mercury Playback Engine. I have a mediocre GT 240 with 1GB of RAM and it rocks. It is much better than using the software only mode. Software only mode is not bad but GPU enabled is so much better. You will have to trust me on that. A new Macbook Pro would not be wise. In fact $900.00 Dell or HP with at least 96 CUDA cores and 1 GB of RAM would be a much better option. You could in theory get a mediocre $600.00 Quad Core from Best Buy and then buy either a $70.00 Nvidia GT 240 graphics card or even a $135.00 GTX 550 graphics card to put in the system. That would work just as well.

Unable to click 'Set and save as my Active Configuration for this project'

Environment: OWB 11.1.0.6 Client running on Windows XP Pro SP3 repository and targets on AIX (IBM UNIX).
I have created a new Configuration under a specific Project and I'd like to make this configuration the default whenever I login and select this Project.
There is a check box when I right click the Configuration and select 'Open Editor' that says 'Set and save as my Active Configuration for this project' but when I select the check box and try to click on 'OK' there is no response from the popup window and I have to click 'Cancel' to get out of the popup.
Any ideas on why this is happening and how to get around it??

Is Captivate right for this project?

I am quite familiar with PS, AI, DW, etc., but learned about Captivate today while doing research on presentation authoring software for an upcoming project at work.
I am hoping someone here can tell me whether or not Captivate is a good fit for the project.
We are re-doing a training program. It is a very simple software training program. It is a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. It has an auto-start/run feature so that it starts up and opens to the main menu upon insertion into a computer. There is a dvd-like menu so that the student can skip around to different sections on the disc. Once a selection is made, a QuickTime video (we don't insist on using QuickTime, in fact some of our students have trouble installing it on their cpu's) plays. The video is surrounded by a frame that includes playback controls (fast-forward, rewind, pause, etc), the company logo, the currenly playing section number and disc, and Menu, Previous, and Next buttons. The videos in the past have been nothing but screen captures with voice overs, but we would like to incorporate PowerPoint-ish slides into the videos if it can be done without having to pay someone to edit the video, as that's not in the budget for this product.
The contractor that did the last one for us is a great trainer, but produced a lower-quality product than we like. I suspect he used a free or very cheap program.
Your thoughts? Does this seems like a project for Captivate?

It sounds like this can be achieved in Captivate. Can I ask which version of Captivate you are using?
Captivate allows you to insert FLV videos (or AVI) so you could definetly do the video part without too much trouble. The menu can also be developed in Captivate and it's also possible to publish the entire project to a CD/DVD.
You wouldn't be able to add Powerpoint slides into the videos by using Captivate so you would need to find some form of videoediting program instead.
