Help functionality for basic users

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good way to implement a help functionality in your dashboards.
The users that work with our dashboards overall don't have much experience with IT, so i'd like to make a buildin function.
This could either be a question mark at every rapport to explain what it does and how you do it, or perhaps a F1 index help like you get with Outlook.
Does anyone have better ideas or could point out to me a good option?

If you have your sample sales webcat and rpd with you that comes with your install(10.1.3.4) you can check the dashboards there. They have implemented the Help functionality with a link and a report.
Any ways Let me explain
Create a sample report with a dummy object and directly go to your static text and you can include what ever text you need like how to use the dashboards or what is that dashboard used for etc etc. Save the report
Now go to your dashboard page and add the link object present on the left side pane and at the destination simple reference this request. Type "Help" in the caption.
you can simply use the fmap functionality in the image layout if you have one. Sample referecing as shown below

You can download the images online and make sure you store them under
C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res folder

Is this software for 'basic' users?

Hi,
I have been looking to purchase the Lightroom software, mainly because my friends have advised me to.
I am a painter and decorator in Stoke-on-Trent, so I aren't the most computer savviest of people. I am entirely comfortable with most software packages, Photoshop being an example.
Is there any experienced users out there which could advise me on this, the software looks really good and I'm on the edge of purchasing it!

I don't have a lot to add to what Paige & John have already said, except:
What I like about Lightroom over Bridge/Photoshop is:
* Develop edit history (and photo comparison features..).
* Publish services.
* Plugins, which have completely automated my workflow.
* It looks cool, and the neutral gray means the only color comes from your photos.

Some of those people have *other* things in Lightroom they find compelling, and some are (or would be) better off sticking with Bridge/Photoshop.
So, you really need to download it and try it and explore to see whether you would make use of any of it's unique features or not...
I mean (for example), Bridge/Photoshop doesn't have a map module - if you want that, you need to use Lightroom, but if you dont care about "mapping", map-module is a "dont care"...........
But to answer the question posed in the thread title: No - Lightroom is not for 'basic' users (in my opinion). It takes a fair amount of learning to be proficient, and is aimed more at supporting fast editing of (and automated exporting of) large bunches of photos, after you have the experience to do so, than it is at being easy to learn. I'm sure some people disagree...... (and on the other hand, it's way easier to learn than Photoshop - again: that's just my opinion).

Exposing OIM functionality for internet users

We have a plan to upgrade IAM components to 11g release and leverage some of the functionality/service of OIM like self service and delegated admin for external users through internet. It is a obvious security concern to expose the OIM app as such to the internet users to achieve the same. And I believe our requirement is sure not one-off case.
Considering this, few queries to all the experts
1. What should be the ideal approach to achieve this?
2. Any recommended architectural docs/links/discussion thread for similar requirements and solutions?
3. I can think of one approach to achieve this would be to build an app integrating same with OIM using APIs.

you NEED to work with the UME action Manage_My_Profile in order to enable user to view and modify their profile.
Any user with a role that has this UME Action can do the above. You assign UME actions to portal roles in the portal in the PCD Studio. Here a short description:
1. Go to Content Administration -> Portal Content
2. Change the super_admin_role for example by navigating to Portal Content -> Portal Administrators -> Super Administrators -> Super Administration
3. On the right pane switch the Property Category to "User Management Permissions"
4. Look for Manage_My_Profile and set it to "Yes"
5. Save the role and check your profile again

PS: Unfortunately there is no possibility to only view the user attributes, yet. This should be possible with the UME action Read_My_Profile introduced with NW2004s.
Only by integrating the LDAP read-only you would be able on other releases to achieve the same.

F4 / Help Functionality for input field in custom java iView

Hi,
As we see many F4 help on each input field in a transaction, how can we mimic the same functionality in a Custom Java iView. For example, ME23N, you can search a PO based on some criteria, when i create a new custom java iview using BAPI_PO_DISPLAY, how can provide that F4 or help functionality to the Purchase Order field.

Hi Vijay,
the F4 Help functionality is always of big concern when you're switching from a R/3 or ABAP-SAP GUI environment to a webfront end. First of all: the convinience you're used to of creating a seach help and adding it to your data fields is gone, i.e. the current development status in the portal/java/webdynpro implies that you have to do most of the work on your own. Simple value helps might not be a problem, but complex ones are (as the one you've described). Here is a link to a tutorial in Java-webdynpro, maybe it gives you an idea:

ITune sync is not well designed on PC for basic users

I don't have a iPhone, I'm the guy people call when they have computer problems.
One of this person have lost all is iPhone contacts and agenda. He tried to sync with Outlook but did it the wrong way, replacing empty Outlook contact and agenda on the iPhone. Before this error, the sync worked well, but the problem is the way sync is done you can't recover from this bad manipulation.
Apple, you should do it this way:
- When user connect the iPhone, a wizard appear and ask if you want to sync, backup or restore the phone. Basic users never use right buttons. Advanced user can disable the Wizard.
- When backup is chosen the wizard ask where to save the zip file. Default directory should be My Documents\iPhone and default name iPhonebackup_YYYYMMDDHHMMSS.zip. Application Data is not a good choice because it's never backup apps default selection and it's hidden.
- When restore is chosen, user pick the zip file, confirm everything will be erased, and go.
This way, people should have correct iPhone backup because the wizard help them to think about it.

Help required for the users report requirement

User requirement is to get the report as follows
Period            planned order     Production order      Backlog
Feb2008          15                           3                      18
March2008      4                            11                     15
Backlog is the formula for planned order & production order.
My problem is that, In the cube the data for planned order is the char value 'X' or a blank.
It has to count the total of planned order for the entire month of feb,& print the value counting the number of 'X',here as shown as 15.
Planned order, Production order are in rows & are chracteristics.
Is thr any solution to count master data which has a char value(X).
I have tried using the formula variable.I had created the new formula.Then using the data functions as count(Formula variable),using the replacment path.But it did not work
Help me out to find the total for the char value of the master data.
Help would be rewarded!

For BACKEND:
1) Create a normal KF say counter and include it in the cube.
2) Now you can populate the value for this KF via end routine in transformation.
3) You need to check whether the value for planned order is X. If yes then update KF with value 1.
4) I hope you can take care of this routine part. Once this is done the data in the cube might look in below manner:

If you see the counter is getting aggregated to give you the sum against the value of planned order as X against month.
I think this should work.
If this dosent work let me know i will let you the alternate solution for frontend. but for that too you need to make the above backend changes.
So do the backend changes and try to use counter KF for showing planned orders and i think it should work fine.

How to Restrict Master data in value help screen for a user???URGENT

Hello Gurus,
I have a requirement.When a authorized user logins to view the report, he should see only list of customers assigned to that user in the value help screen, instead of displaying whole master data.and the data is displayed perfectly fine for the authorized sales rep. By default, Value help screen displaying all the customer numbers.
How can I restrict in the value help screen?
Any help appreciated with points.

I got that Idea too. I created a authorized customer, I created a authorized Object and assigned to a role.But in the role, when I am changing the object to generate profile, it is asking to select list of customers from the customer table.If the customers are always constant then this would work, but in my scenario, customers for the sales rep changes over time and when I ever reps open the query, they should see updated list of customers assigned to them only, as we update the master data everyday from source system and that shud reflect in the value help.
I am trying User Exit to achieve this, but I am not getting proper ideas how to do this.
Any Help on this issue with user exit code???

E71 - help needed for basic set up questions

I have just purchased an E71 - a big jump from the last mobile (pre camera era)
But Im lost on this. I ordered the phone online, so Im not sure where to go to get help and instruction about the phone and how to set it up properly and use it. Mannuals aren't my best option. Im in Australia,.
Is there a Nokia store where I can go to help with setting it up?
Does my phone come with a internet security or do I have to purchase it?

The PUK was with the mobile operator, so I rang them and after a security check procedure I was able to enter the PUK code and get the phone unlocked. Phew!
I checked the Security Warning Web Setting (as you said kingpin007), and the web alert was marked to ON already - so no problems there.
I also registered at Mosh, (the planets must be badly aspected - that took me 12 attempts LOL) and they have one security download NetQin Moble Anti-virus.

I guess I am questioning weather or not the phone comes installed with any antivirus or security safeguards factory installed ... is my phone secure on the web/emailing/downloading etc. if I dont install the NetQin or something similar?
In the mannual it says this:
"Important: Your device can only support one antivirus application. Having more than one application with antivirus functioning could affect performance and operation and cause the devise to stop functioning"
And presently I trialled the free 7 day 'F7' security application that was a standard downloaded to the phone - but it is too costly for me to subscribe to - it has another day before it runs out, so I am thinking I should wait until it expires before considering dowloading any other security application. Does that sound like the right thing to do?
Well at least Im back to square One with this all ...
Im sure I'll have more questions as I try to work this all out.

Firefox 31.0 has lost functionality for one user only. No menu dropdown. Win 8.1.

The primary user has no problems and nor did the second user until yesterday when, returning after a break, Firefox opened with a new tab, no menu bars and no menu button drop-down screen. If I clicked on Alt+menu bar or bookmarks bar, they appeared temporarily. It worked if I typed a url into the search box and I could add bookmarks but they would disappear on shutdown.
I have tried a reset through Profile Manager and, in desperation, deleted the user completely. After rebooting the PC and creating a new user, Firefox behaves exactly the same way, except that all the bookmarks have been deleted.
The primary user still has no problem with Firefox but it seems there is some basic problem with the addition of a second user.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

How to implement the documentation help function for webdynpro application

We have implemented SAP Travelmanagement ESS services which uses ABAP Webdynpro. In each of the screen there is a "help" link on the top right corner. I would like to know how to use this function to link a help file that explains what needs to be done on each screen.
My requirement is to provide screen specific help information as a document for each of the screen in my webdynpro application.
Any suggestions, options, samples from the experts would be most appreciated.

Hi Vivek,
seems to be your WDA are built by FPM, thats how by default you will be getting help link in top corner.
when you click on help link it has to display the help related data.
for this sap calls the standard wdc: WDHC_COMPONENT and the view:WDHC_APPL_HELP in this view you will see the element as: TEXT to fill some text which is your help data.
there might be some way to fill this TEXT (text view) try this.
or else i will check and upate you soon.

Private Chat functionality for basic server

Firstly i hope this is the best forum for my question.
I've written a basic chat server and client. The server recieves strings messages, and broadcasts them to everyone connected to it. I was wandering, sticking with exchanging Strings over the connection, what ways could I implement a private chat facility so one client could choose to send a message that would only be seen by one chosen user?

I completly agree with you. I had originally used the smack api to create a client that talked with an openfire server, however was told (as i'm doing this to create an experiement for a project) that what i was writing was too 'heavy', as there was no need for using things like rooms and roosters) which to be honest is probably true.
So i went back to just writing a very basic server, with not authentication or security (i don't think i really need security as it will never be used outside of a closed network, and even then it will only be used for short periods of time) that just listens for a connection on serverSocket.accept(), reads from it when there is a message(String) arrives and then broadcast that mesage to all those connected to the server.
I'm not too sure how to progress in setting up the private chat facility without using smack and openfire (as i've been told not too). I'm going to get cracking and start playing around and see what i can come up...

Functionality for the Help menuItem

I have one small problem.I have to implement the web help functionality
for my project.What I need to do is to create one html file with a link to one homepage (I have done that already!) and to create one class ViperHelp.java. In this class I have to create the container for my link so that when I klick the webHelp item in my menu bar one window is opened with one link inside.My problem is that I don't know which container should I take for this link.I have tried to work out this source but it doesn't work. } One thing I did notice was that if you call setPage on a URL that is not local (i.e. "http://" instead of "file:") an exception was thrown. So as long as you are not attempting this you should be fine.
