Is this table considered to be large? Plz help

Hello,
I have a table that contains about 140 million rows. data size is about 38 GB. This is severly affecting performance of our application. Since this is one of the tables that stores "detail log of transactions", it keeps growing with every min and sec.
are there any suggestions/comments to keep the size low? (e.g. by segregating columns that contain more than 1000 char of data)
looking forward for your valuable advise.
TIA

Thanks for your inputs.
Well, the procedure to insert data into this table
takes a loong time and consume lot of resources. we
have used insert .....select from with append hint,
as there is very little data processing.Now we are getting somewhere ... 'The PROCEDURE is slow and uses a lot of resources' is somewhat more definitive than 'the large table is affecting our performance'. (Of course, we still do not know whether 'procedure' means a PL/SQ stored procedure or simply the sequence that you happen to be using.)
You need to give us symptoms. Operating system & database version and patches, disk storage information (SAN, RAID level) is useful.
What specific steps have you taken to identify the cause of slowness? Any trace, profile, explain plan?
What level of complexity is involved in inserting into the table? Are you doing any joins in the select portion? How many indexes are there? What is the base table structure? (IOT, many wide columns, blob/clob?) How many records are being selected with each insert? Are you using bitmaps? Have you checked for any locks?
Is only the procedure affected, or is everything affected while the procedure is running.
So far it is as if you have gone to the doctor and said you are not feeling well.
To get a prescription from the doctor, It is useful to know whether the bad feeling is in the back, the head, the neck, the stomach .... the more you tell us, the sooner we can make recommendations. Until we get enough details, all we can do is guess and keep asking for more detail.

    Hi all,
    I have created a htmlb table. And the jsp code is as follows
    <%@ taglib uri="tagLib" prefix="hbj" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="myBean" scope="application" class="com.linde.myaccounts.util.TableBean" />

    I have used a table bean by which I am getting the column header names. I have 5 columns, I have to add input field in the first column, checkbox in the second column, leave the third column blank, checkbox in the fourth column and again a input field in the fifth column. I am not understanding on how to add this elements onto the table. Will I add it from the JSP using <hbj:tableViewColumns> tag or I have add them in the bean or in the dynpage. Kindly someone give me the code for this...
    This is very urgent..Kindly help...
    Thanks in advance,
    Priyanka

    Hi,
    Have you tried looking at the examples that come with the PDK for all of the HTMLB elements?  From memory, there should be a small table example or 2 that have different types of columns shown similar to what you want - they have the full source code with them for you to look at.
    If you are working in a portal, go to the Java Developer tab and I "think" there should be a tab linking to HTMLB documentation and examples - sorry I can't be more specific but I don't have access to a portal at the moment so am trying to remember.
    Gareth.

  • Plz help me convert this into a table format

    Hi,
    private String makeInfo(Vector p_dataV)
    String info = "";
    if (p_dataV.size() > 0)
    info += "<font size=1>";
    for (int i=0; i<p_dataV.size(); i=i+2)
    info += p_dataV.elementAt(i) + ": <b>" + p_dataV.elementAt(i+1) + "</b><br>";
    info += "</font><br>";
    return info;
    I want values of p_dataV.elementAt(i) in one row &
    values of p_dataV.elementAt(i+1) underneath the first row
    Plz help ......
    Regards,
    Vishal

    Come on dude, its pretty simple.
    The following should work.
    I've used Collection Interface rather than Vector (makes it more generic)
    also used an iterator rather than a for loop.
    And used a StringBuffer for building the data in the loop, rather than a String (more efficient). In Java1.5 you should probably use an enhanced for loop, and a StringBuilder.
    I was also careful about the fact of bad data in the list. It won't break if you don't provide an odd number of elements.
    private String makeInfo(Collection p_dataV)
    String info = "";
    StringBuffer topRow = new StringBuffer();
    StringBuffer bottomRow = new StringBuffer();
    for(Iterator it = p_dataV.iterator(); it.hasNext(); ){
      topRow.append("<td>" + it.next() + "</td>");
      if (it.hasNext()){
        bottomRow.append("<td>" + it.next() + "</td>");
    info = "<table><tr>";
    info += topRow.toString();
    info += "</tr><tr>";
    info += bottomRow.toString();
    info += "</tr></table>";
    return info;

    my server has 4 Gb Ram plz tell me something. what action should i take. This Query is running 18 hours plz by seeing this ADDM plz sugest what to do i'm highly thanksful to yoy As already mentioned here in the thread you need to check the execution plan of the UPDATE statement. If you're unlucky then the scalar subquery querying JAG_N24_DG0 is potentially executed for each row of GN_FLAT_IN_TABLE. Depending on the execution plan of the subquery this approach might be quite inefficient.
    Generic instructions how to generate a meaningful plan output and how to use the {noformat}{{noformat}code{noformat}}{noformat} tag to get it formatted in mono-space font here follow below:
    Could you please post an properly formatted explain plan output using DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY including the "Predicate Information" section below the plan to provide more details regarding your statement. Please use the {noformat}[{noformat}code{noformat}]{noformat} tag before and {noformat}[{noformat}/code{noformat}]{noformat} tag after or the {noformat}{{noformat}code{noformat}}{noformat} tag before and after to enhance readability of the output provided:
    In SQL*Plus:
    SET LINESIZE 130
    EXPLAIN PLAN FOR <your statement>;
    SELECT * FROM TABLE(DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY);Note that the package DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY is only available from 9i on.
    In 9i and above, if the "Predicate Information" section is missing from the DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY output but you get instead the message "Plan table is old version" then you need to re-create your plan table using the server side script "$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlxplan.sql".
    In previous versions you could run the following in SQL*Plus (on the server) instead:
    @?/rdbms/admin/utlxplsA different approach in SQL*Plus:
    SET AUTOTRACE ON EXPLAIN
    <run your statement>;will also show the execution plan.
    In order to get a better understanding where your statement spends the time you might want to turn on SQL trace as described here:
    When your query takes too long ...
    and post the "tkprof" output here, too.

    1.Salesman        Equipment AC Mgr.                          VBPA2 – this is the salesman code - I need the
    description for this.
    2.Vendor              MEPO_TOPLINE-SUPERFIELD     Vendor field is pull from me23n where the
    condition will be that COBL-KDAUF (this is a
                                                                                    structure from me23n in item data-account
                                                                                    assignment-sales order. The number here should
                                                                                    be the corresponding contract number. This field
                                                                                    should include a multiple selection function. User
    can put more than one description to search for.
    3. Val. Period   Val. Period Category                           Val. Period Category from va41 header-contract
        Category                                                               data. This field should include a multiple selection

    with system status TECO will be pull. Take not
    service order type RD08 will be excluded
    10. Fault Cost         RIHAUFK_LIST- DGESKOSIST   This will be the total cost for a service order which
    have the status TECO. Those which are not TECO
    will not be needed. This field can be obtain from
    IW39 (standard report). Execute the report and
    there will be a field for Total Actual Cost. You might
    need to change the screen layout to be able to view
    this. Take note service order type RD08 will be
    excluded
    11. PM Hours      AFVGD-ISMNW                            This field is in IW41 in confirmation base on the
                                                                                 order created. This field will be the actual time

  • How to write code for this logic, plz help me very urgent

    Hi All,
    i am new to sap-abap, i got this work and i m working on this can any body help me in writing code, plz help me, this is very very urgent.
    here  i m giving my logic, can anybody send me the code related to this logic.
    this is very urgent .
    this program o/p should be in ALV format and need to create one commond 'SAVE" on this o/t list  if  user clicks save processedon and processedby fields in ZFIBUE should be updated automatically.
    i am creating one custom table zfibue having fields: (serialno, bukrs, matnr,prdha,hkont,gsber,wrbtr,budat, credate, cretime,processed, processedon, processedby,mapped)
    fields of zfibue:
    serailno = numc
    bukrs = char
    matnr = char
    prdha = char
    hkont = char
    gsber = char
    wrbtr = char
    budat = date
    credate = date
    cretime = time
    processed= char
    processedon = date
    processedby = char
    mapped = char      are   belongs to above type data types
    and seelct-optionfields:  s_bukrs for bseg-bukrs
                                        s_hkont for bseg-hkont,
                                         s_budat for bkpf-budat,
                                         s_processed for zfibue-processed,
                                          s_processedon for zfibue-processedon,
                                          s_mapped. for zfibue-mapped
    parameters: p_chk1 as checkbox,
                      p_chk2 as checkbox.
                      p_filepath type rlgrap-filename.
    1.1 Validate the user inputs (S_BUKRS and S_HKONT) against respective check tables (T001 and SKB1). If the validation fails, provide respective error message. Eg: “Invalid input for Company Code”.
    1.2 Fetch SERIALNO, BUKRS, MATNR, PRDHA, HKONT, GSBER, WRBTR, BUDAT, CREDATE, CRETIME, PROCESSED, PROCESSEDON, PROCESSEDBY, MAPPED from table ZFIBUE into internal table GT_ZFIBUE where BUKRS IN S_BUKRS, HKONT IN S_HKONT, BUDAT IN S_BUDAT, PROCESSED IN S_PROCESSED, PROCESSEDON IN S_PROCESSEDON, and MAPPED IN S_MAPPED.
    1.3 If P_CHK2 = ‘X’, go to step 1.11. Else continue.
    1.4 If P_CHK1 = ‘X’, continue. Else go to step 1.9
    1.5 Fetch MATNR, PRDHA from MARA into GT_MARA for all entries in GT_ZFIBUE where MATNR = GT_ZFIBUE-MATNR.
    1.6 Sort and delete adjacent duplicates from GT_MARA based on MATNR.
    1.7 Loop through GT_ZFIBUE where PRDHA = blank.
              Read Table GT_MARA based on MATNR = GT_ZFIBUE-MATNR.
              IF sy-subrc = 0.
                     Move GT_MARA-PRDHA to GT_ZFIBUE-PRDHA.
                  Modify Table GT_ZFIBUE. “Update Product Hierarchy
                 Endif.
        Fetch PRDHA, GSBER from ZFIBU into GT_ZFIBU for all entries in GT_ZFIBUE where PRDHA = GT_ZFIBUE-PRDHA.
        Read Table GT_ZFIBU based on PRDHA = GT_ZFIBUE-PRDHA.
              IF sy-subrc = 0.
                     Move GT_ZFIBU-GSBER to GT_ZFIBUE-GSBER.
                  Move “X” to GT_ZFIBUE-MAPPED.
                  Modify Table GT_ZFIBUE.
                 Endif.
    Endloop.
    1.8 Modify database table ZFIBUE from GT_ZFIBUE.
    1.9 Fill the field catalog table GT_FIELDCAT using the details of output fields listed in section “Inputs/Outputs” (above).
       Eg:                 LWA_ FIELDCAT -SELTEXT_L = 'Serial Number’.

  • "This file attachment is too large to be viewed." What?

    I created a 15.6MB m4v for iPhone using compressor to test being able to email clips to a client for review on his iphone. A couple of strange things. First, when the message is received, the attachment now reads that it is 20.6MB in size. Second, when I attempt to open it on my iPhone... it gives me the message "This file attachment is too large to be viewed."
    Is there a limitation with the iPhone here that I didn't know about?

    Yes this is a public board, which shouldn't exclude common courtesy.
    This is a user to user help forum only and fellow users that post answers to questions or provide suggestions here volunteer their time to do so.
    I don't have a problem with you providing what you think is a shortcoming, but there is nothing wrong with me providing a reasons or reasons why it isn't a shortcoming for the most part. If that is being "needlessly defensive", then you are needlessly interested only in thoughts that agree with your own.
    What does that mean exactly? I wasn't suggesting they would, they usually use their own dedicated mail servers... which they can set to unlimited if they wish... which is why putting the limitation on the iphone pulls the rug out from under them if they want to use the iPhone AND send/receive large files via email. Pretty simple equation really.
    What it means exactly is, you were talking about business use and you mentioned Gmail having a 20MB overall message size limit. Yes many businesses use their own dedicated server, which they can set to unlimited if they wish, but this will only work internally and with other businesses that do the same.
    I'll bet you dollars to donuts the overwhelming majority of businesses with or without their own dedicated email server do not have an unlimited overall message size limit. Some may have a larger overall message size limit than 10MB, but 10MB is a very common limit.
    So any way in which the iPhone can become more useful as a business device is a good thing... isn't it?
    Certainly, but what you consider as being more useful may or many not match what I or someone else may consider as being more useful and there is nothing wrong with that.
    Perhaps you will never need or otherwise enjoy landscape email, full screen attached video playback, or attachments greater than 10MB... but to not see the obvious improvement as a business device had these features been implemented in 2.0.2 just doesn't make any sense to me.
    I have been discussing overall message size limits only. I haven't mentioned anything about these other items.

  • Plz help me design this query

    Hi,
    Can you’ll please help me with this query.
    Here is a little bit of background:
    One title can have multiple items associated with it.
    Table: TITLE has the master list of titles. TITLE_ID is the primary key.
    Table: ITEM has the master list of all items. ITEM_ID is the primary. This table also has the TITLE_ID which stores title for this item.
    Table: ITEM_STATUS has fields ITEM_ID and STATUS_ID. This field contains statuses for items. But not all items contained in the table ITEM are in this table.
    I want to find TITLE_ID’s whose all items (all ITEM_ID in table ITEM having same value for TITLE_ID) have a particular status (for example STATUS_ID = 2) in table ITEM_STATUS.
    Let’s say TITLE_ID = 1 has 5 items in table ITEM_ID and only 4 items out of it in table ITEM_STATUS with STATUS_ID = 2, then this TITLE_ID should not come. OR
    Let’s say TITLE_ID = 1 has 5 items in table ITEM_ID and all these 5 items are in table ITEM_STATUS but only 1 has STATUS_ID = 2, then this TITLE_ID should also not come
    In the above case only if all 5 items are contained in table ITEM_STATUS have STATUS_ID = 2 then this TITLE_ID should be reported by the query.
    What should be the query like for this one, I am fairly new to SQL so plz guide me.
    Thank you,
    Raja

    I haven't tested the query below. Try it and let me know for any issues:
    SELECT     DISTINCT t.title_id
         FROM     title t,
                        item i,
                        item_status its
    WHERE     t.title_id = i.title_id
         AND     i.item_id = its.item_id
         AND     NOT EXISTS     (
                                                           SELECT 1
                                                                FROM item_status its1
                                                           WHERE its1.item_id = i.item_id
                                                                AND status_id <> 'YOUR_ITEM_STATUS'
                                                      )
