Is Yosemite a gimmick  to get people to upgrade all their software?

How do I bypass the  “Dragon Dictate might not perform as well in this version of OS X”   notification?   I just purchased Dragon Dictate 3 about six months ago   Never even got a chance to use it and then Yosemite  came out  and it’s already outdated. Is Yosemite a gimmick  to get people to upgrade all their software? Dragon Dictate seems to work fine except for this notice.  I didn’t want to buy a Mac because I been using Dragon Dictate for 10 years on my PC and that version still works on Windows  Until Windows 7 came out and then I decided to buy a Mac before I purchased the new version of Dragon dictate. I’ve had this Mac for  Two years but couldn’t use it because I didn’t have Dragon Dictate  or word processing program, Didn’t want to purchase a new version  of WordPerfect or Dragon.   Man this is frustrating  By time you learn how to use something  it’s already outdated. I still can’t use the Mac until I find a version of macro express for the Mac that I don’t have to take a college course to learn.

I am dictating this  to you. Using the 2.5 to version of nuance. If somebody developed an application has basic speech to text functions without the steep purchase price and upgrades for a fee,  I think in the long run that vendor would have a home run.
As cdhwwrites, you could try the built in dictation for the Mac.
OS X Yosemite: Dictate your messages and documents
Regarding running your Windows, I have no experience with Bootcamp.   But using 32GB of RAM, Parallels runs like a champ.

  • Lost my entire "desktop" after restoring files with Wondershare Dr. Fone. Does anyone know how to get it back without purchasing their software?

I was trying to recover a deleted text message and used Wondershare Dr. Fone to load previously deleted messages.
I didn't find the message that I was looking for, but when I went back to my "desktop" - all my apps were rearranged and there was a photo I had set as the background 2 years ago. When I opened their program again to try and restore my desktop, I was prompted to purchase their software, which I cannot affort to do.
Like many people, I rely on my phone almost as much as an extra appendange and am clueless as to how I can recover my icloud, apps, etc without spending any money.
Do you have any suggestions. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing

Pretty bad reviews for that software.

  • Yosemite - Why do I get the spinning beach ball when logging in?

    HI
I have just upgraded my late 2013 MBPS to Yosemite and am now unable to login at all.  The actual upgrade was fraught, took a long, long time, and I'm not even sure if it completed, although when booting in safe mode it does state that the OS is 10.10.  The problem I have is that I can only login via safe mode, through the normal login, after clicking on any of the user accounts I get the spinning wheel, and nothing happens, even after 15 minutes or more.
After looking at the problems people were experiencing on the forum, I have disabled the wireless function and cleared the apps that ran on login, but this still hasn't allowed me to login normally.
Is anyone else having this issue, does anyone know how to resolve it?  Help, I'm at the end of my tether, and can see this fairly expensive piece of kit winging it's way out of the window very soon....
    THanks

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Have been using Lightroom on my Apple computer for years. Now, ever since upgrading to Apple's  Yosemite operating system I get an error message (150:30) every time I try to open a lightroom file. Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Also how do I subscribe to Adobe's Premium Support? Every time I've tried (through contact support) I just get taken on an unending loop.

I think we need a lot more information.
Exactly what does the message say?
Exactly what files are you trying to open?
Exactly how are you trying to open them (what menu command or button or mouse action or keyboard shortcut)?
And lastly, what version of Lightroom are you using?

My MacBookPro (mid 2012) will not complete the boot process. Yosemite's progress widget gets about 1/3 to 1/2 way across when the logo disappears and the screen goes all white for 10-15 secs, then the machine shuts down and restarts. This sequence will repeat seemingly forever unless I shut it down manually.
I upgraded to Yosemite from Mountain Lion a couple months ago, skipping Maverick completely, and I've done any associated updates that Apple told me about. I don't recall which version of Yosemite I have, but I'm sure it is the "latest and greatest".
I've tried re-starting in Safe Mode / Safe Boot and that does the same thing as described above except without the endless restarts. Instead of restarting at some point, SafeBoot proceeds to the white screen and then it hangs until I restart it manually. (I've waited as long os 20-30 minutes with no response).
When I tried the option-command-p-r key combo I never get any chimes or other noises besides the original 1 time boot sound that you would expect to get when starting up a macbook pro.
I was using the mac quite normally (meaning I was doing work I normally do on it and there was no indication of anything wrong) immediately prior to this happening.
The machine is BootCamp(ed) with Windows 8.1 which I use from a VMWare virtual machine instead of natively so that I can have both OSes running at the same time. I also think this is unrelated to my problem. I have been using this setup for more than 2 years.
My upgrade to Yosemite was uneventful and I thought it went well and was very smooth. I don't want to lead attention away from Yosemite, but at this point my problem does not seem related to the upgrade.
    Any help is appreciated.

Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Got a new Mac that has Yosemite and am now getting an internal error message

I went from OS X Mavericks on my old MacBook Pro to Yosemite on my new MacBook Pro - and now Presenter Express 10 is not working. I see myself on camera and start recording but when I try to play back I get an "internal error" message. Someone else posted on 2/15 they were getting this message but it doesn't seem like it's the same issue - ? I don't even get a chance to select different views - just the yellow shows up before the error message.
The resolution is on the default of 1440 x 900, which is what Presenter's Help page says it should be at.
I have Presenter Express installed and am not using it via a subscription. I did encounter problems with Photoshop with Yosemite and had to install Java 6 plus completely uninstall and reinstall Photoshop to make it work. Am wondering if I need to uninstall and reinstall Presenter Express?
****EDIT*** If I DO have to uninstall and reinstall - I just went to my account page and although all my software purchases and serial numbers are listed I can't click to download anything. I don't see a page where I can do this for Presenter Express (although there is one for other apps). All I can find is a purchase page with the free trial option.
****EDIT***** Just tried playing back a video that was still in Presenter from before I moved to new my Mac and it won't play. "application encounter an internal error"

Thank you for your response Rajeev, yet I have a few concerns about it.
As I said, my screen resolution is what the Presenter Help page says it should be for a MacBook Pro: 1440x900.
    1. In addition to the Photoshop problem I had when everything was migrated from my old MacBook Pro running Mavericks  to my new one running Yosemite, I also had a problem with Dreamweaver and what was a permissions problem. Is that what is going on here with Presenter 10? Adobe techs refused to talk to me since my versions of both programs were a couple years old.
So I called Apple, as it was clear it was a permissions issue that would not allow me to open up my Dreamweaver files.
To address the permissions problem with Dreamweaver, Apple had me create a new user account with admin rights, and in doing so (although the tech PROMISED it wouldn't happen even though I voiced my concerns about it) ALL my stored passwords were wiped out. They ended up having to give me a big Apple store purchase credit because it took me hours to add all my passwords back in manually - and some I didn't have written down. If I create another new one, I bet the same thing is going to happen.
    2. The permissions problem in Dreamweaver was solved by creating a new user account with admin rights. I did not have to do a clean re-install. However, the Photoshop problem required the Java 6 Runtime download from Apple, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop. Since I have been in the process of moving and my Creative Suite discs were in a box, I first tried downloading it from Adobe. But when I opened it up and clicked on the install icon, an error message came up that said Apple will not allow downloads to be installed unless they are purchased from the Apple store, or are an from an "approved vendor" (or something like that). I was like, WHAT???? But fortunately I found the box my software was in and reinstalled Photoshop from it.
Naturally my concern is if I download Presenter 10 again (I do not have it on disc) I will get the same Apple error message. I had massive problems with the previous version of Presenter and Adobe techs spent hours and hours with me trying to fix the problem - and actually made some things worse. I finally requested a free copy of Presenter 10 Student edition (I am a full time student) as compensation for all my time, and that is the version I have and is registered with Adobe.

After update of Yosemite, Finder couldn´t get access to Time Capsule. Connection failed. Restart of the Time Capsule doesn´t solve the problem.

    The trick seems to be:
    unmount volume (eject whatever)
    turn wifi off
    turn wifi on
Cmd-K (or whatever) to find and remount volume.
This is with Yosemite 10.10.1 update.

How do I get iphoto to upgrade photo library after upgrading os from snowleopard to yosemite?

    To add to OT's advice:
You may need to delete your current iPhoto from the Applications folder, if it is a version of iPhoto '11, before the App Store will allow you to download it from the main page.
To locate iPhoto at the AppStore, open the "Featured" tab and enter "iPhoto" into the search field.

No; try using a data recovery product such as the ones listed here. Don't write anything else to the drive until the files are recovered or you choose not to recover them.

  • In Yosemite, How can I get the "READER" button back in the Tool Bar at the top of the screen

    In OS X Yosemite,
How can I get the "READER" button back in the Tool Bar for Safari at the top of the screen ?
    Thanks,

I don't see the "READER button".
I see "READ LATER" but not the "READER" function.
    Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
Please continue to HELP ME with this question.
In the previous version of Safari, there was a "READER Button" on the right side of the tool bar. This brings up the selected web page in a READER mode all by itself, without the ads, etc.
Are you saying that I can get this function by clicking on the Left side of the Address bar?
When I do that, I get lots of icons, but NOT the READER button.
    Thanks

uninstall everything cs6 and then run the cleaner -  Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Idea to get people onside with Creative Cloud - Transparency

In order to get people invested in the Creative Cloud idea Adobe needs a section of the site (which is also integrated into the Creative Cloud app) that shows the progress of feature development. There should be two highly visible sections. The first should be a log of feature requests that can be voted on by cloud subscribers and added to by submitting a request to Adobe (there could be a special form for this in the cloud app). The second is a timeline of development areas and and releases much in the same way that you'd see on an open source app hosted in a public forum like Github or something like Firefox. For example i currently have two sections in my cloud app (files and fonts) which just say coming soon when i click on them. I have absolutely no idea when these features are scheduled to be integrated or whether they're on track and they're two features i was very keen on when i signed up. With no more full releases like CS7/CS8 it's absolutely critical that you get the community invested in the product and be more open about development than you've been in the past - it's the way of the future.

I think a lot of people are dismayed that these features were and still remain absent for paying customers of Creative Cloud, given Adobe's official updates on the topic as seen below. I think an update status in the cloud app would just cause people to be more enraged that Adobe chooses to not be transparent or open with their paying customers about features they were expecting to have upon release (since they were marketed all along) and are still paying for them even in their absence. Based upon their official updates on the topics, I think Adobe also has "absolutely no idea when these features are scheduled to be integrated" either. :-(
So, what’s next? One of the advantages of being a Creative Cloud member is that you get updates and new features continuously. The following new features and functionality as soon as they are ready: File syncing on the desktop, Typekit fonts on your desktop,
