Isight maybe finished?

hello,
i have a 12" powerbook g4 and external isight, both last models produced. my isight has always worked fine until today it's just giving me a black screen with static as the picture. i double-checked everything and my powerbook is recognizing it in system profiler and the green light on the isight is on. but in skype, ichat, photo booth, all the same result black screen with minor static? any thoughts on something i might try or is my isight all of a sudden dead?
thanks,
rick
ps - my only other thought is it's quite hot in my area and sometimes i'm in a room without air conditioning. i noticed the isight can get hot too even it it's not in use but just plugged in. is it possible it overheated??? thanks again.

Hello rick.
You seem to have been thorough. It sounds like your good old external may finally be giving up.
Consider any of the suggestions from here that you have not already tried:

If all fail, your Apple Technician may be able to repair it.
If not economically repairable, other options are here:

Overheating is possible: http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage11.html
The test for this problem is simple. Unplug iSight, cool it to room temperature, then try again.

  • ISight Microphone with P.C.

Because Skype doesn't have MAC video yet, I use my iSight on my PC. I can't figure out how to make the microphone work (isn't there a microphone in iSights, maybe that should be my first question!) on the PC so I have to keep using my headset. Any of you smarty pants know anything about this?
    Thanks,
    Unsmarty Pants

Sorry, but although some PC users report that they can make their Firewire equipped PC access iSight's camera, PCs apparently cannot use iSight's mic. You will need a separate mic for your PC.

  • HT1386 I can no longer sync my books to my iPod touch.

Okay someone help me out, PLEASE!
My daughter and I bought new e-books and wanted to put them on our iPods to read with iBooks. First I tried with my daughter's. I added her books to her iTunes account. Her settings are set to sync all books, rather than selected books. I clicked "apply" then clicked "sync". Then I got an error message saying it could not add the 4 files (the four new books) because they could not be found. I double-checked and they were still showing up in her iTunes library where I'd put them but kept saying they could not be found when I went to sync. I also kept getting the message "cannot connect to iTunes store" which was odd but my daughter's had lots of issues with her iTunes before so before I pulled out anymore of my hair I decided to switch over to my account and put my new books on my iPod.
Umm yeah that wasn't happening either. I have mine set up to only sync selected items. I added all my new books into my iTunes. I opened up my iPod settings and went into the book section, found the new books I wanted to add, checked them all and clicked "apply" then "sync". I never got an error message, however I also didn't see the little writing during the sync that would say "adding [book title]" either. So I checked my iBooks account and sure enough they aren't in there. I tried several dozen more times, I even tried switching my settings to sync ALL the books in my iTunes and it would not add any new books at all. And before it's suggested YES, I had the room/space on my iPod for the files (same with my daughter).
This happend to me once before and I got totally frustrated and annoyed and ended up deleting every single book out of my iTunes, as well as deleting my iBooks app altogether. Then I readded iBooks and re-added a few books at a time to my iTunes account and synced and it worked fine. The next time I had a few books to add I held my breath sure it wouldn't work but it did. And the next few times was fine. Then today this happened again! I really don't want to have to take all my books off again (as I'm in the middle of reading one) and delete the app, etc. so I really hope someone can suggest something else. I'm about to just say screw it and sell my iPod and get a kindle or a kobo or something.

Well, I can see a potential problem with that, although you must have made it work before.
I had a set up on a Windows computer like that, but the iTunes accounts couldn't communicate or share content.  We consolidated, after much fuss, to one Library, one location.
This may be why your daughter has problems connecting to the iTunes store.  The "server" is serving 2 accounts.
I am sure it is why the books didn't sync and can't be found on her iTunes account.  If you look on her iTunes on the computer, are the book titles pale gray?  is there an ! point on them?   This means that while the computer knows they were there, they can't connect with the actual content.   After all they can't be in two places at once.   iTunes can sometimes offer to "rebuild the path" to lost files, I don't know it that would work here.
As for why they come and go from your device, I can only guess it is because they are not iTunes purchases.  Just like my PDFs, iTunes tolerates them, but really doesn't know what they are, or what to do with them, so it does nothing. (unless you make it!)  Not that iTunes treated the iBooks I did get from iTunes any better.
As I posted above, the only way I could get it to work was to delete stuff, which seemed to shock iBooks into syncing the books and PDFs.  Maybe, finish the book you are reading, delete all then add new books?  (Sorry,it's all I got)
If you are going to share content, one iTunes Library, but separate Apple IDs would work better.  But that is up to you (I'm also a parent, I get it)  I share with my 2 sons.
You mentioned a Kindle.  I have one.  Never use it, but it is an older one.  The paperwhite seems like a good idea.  It is absolutely impossible to transfer PDFs to the kindle in a print size big enough to read unless it's
24 pt type going in.  Didn't work for me, might work for you.

  • 23" Apple vs Dell 2405FPW

Hey, i am in the market for a new powermac sometime soon, and i was recomended a 2405FPW instead of a 23" cinema display. Im not good with specs of monitors and don't understand them. Im in the UK and i was told the Dell is cheaper, to order a apple display with a powermac would cost £850, but a dell is £950, am i in the wrong place? Also how much better is the dell then the apple (if it is?) and what graphics card would i need to run that and games such as COD and doom?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Liam

thank you, seems you americans have it lucky, the exchange rate on apple products means we get ripped off here as well, they charge us more. But being a apple person i would most likely have to opt for a 30" ACD, i won't need any perfect colour match or anything as im not a big photographer, just photographs of friends and family and events for myself. I won't be able to order my powermac under september mainly because i won't have the income until then (being a student) so you never know, intel powermacs and displays with built in iSight maybe (no hopes up though, props happen week after pruchase knowing my luck)

  • Do I need After Effects?

Does Final Cut Studio 5 have a great many effects, or would I need to consider getting After Effects as well to suplement it? I actually just recently discovered iMovie, and my interest in video and video editing has been piqued. I wound up buying GeeThree's Slick effects for iMovie, and I'm wondering if I'm going to need to get stuff like that for Final Cut if I go ahead and take the plunge and buy it. I would have to get 5, because it's several hundred dollars less the Studio 2 on amazon and ebay. Thanks for any advice.

Really? "Not a total pro app"?
    No sorry,
it lacks many crucial features, and just isn't yet a able to be an Avid or Smoke killer.
That's not to say it isn't a great app.
If you can pay your mortgage with it that's great!
Hey if you can shoot on HDV and cut on FCP and broadcast that and get away with it then good on you too.
Often it isn't the tools it's the worker who creates fantastic work.
I have seen lots of good stuff come out of FCP, but it is a flawed program and is far from the "first choice of editors" Apple would have us believe.
If you did your work on smoke, maybe finished in Inferno or flame then I imagine your work would look so hot it would blow away your clients; not to mention their wallets!
Please don't tell that to the clients who have allowed me to support my family and pay a mortgage for the past five years
Well if they can't see it then good for you.
Obviously you can make it sing for your quality of work, and it is much cheaper then other NLE's so you must easily make a good salary from it.
or the documentary I just helped finish.
I to am cutting a doco on FCP, as docos tend to be cheaper then standard productions and commercials.
And often we have more time to deal with the slow and annoying aspects of FCP.
But in a true production, fast turnaround, or high end Professional commercial world FCP would flop.
Maybe I should tell the buddy of mine who is onlining low-budget features, color correcting and going to tape for major distributors
The answer is in the question here! Low Budget.
If he had the money, and it was a professional film it might be rough cut in FCP, but it certainly would not be finished in it!
I love that FCP is so cheap,
I love that you CAN edit on a MacbookPro on the go,
heck I could even use it to finish a music video or similar small, low budget job on MacbookPro.
But it is what it is, value for money, Cheap.
Maybe pro-sumer is a little rough, but 'Final Cut Pro' is a name that sounds bigger then the actual product delivers.
I feel Apple does not dedicate enough resources, or development into some quite glaring flaws in FCP; I think it should just be called 'Final Cut', intil it actually is a rounder, more finished app.
I am amused they have given us 'color', another "unfinished" application that doesn't quite gel with the suite and adds more frustration with it's promises.

  • HT1386 Since iTunes upgrade, sync no longer puts my contacts into my groups

Since my recent ITunes upgrade, IPhone sync no longer puts my contacts into my groups, even though I use the checked off groups option. The groups show up but do not contain any contacts.

  • Window Experience Index(WEI)

I decided to install win7 64 on my unibody 2009 macbook pro 17. I'm curious to see what the WEI scores for others folks are. I did not use bootcamp and i let windows use all the default drivers. Everything was found(wireless, video, etc). There are a couple of unknowns(coprocessor, isight); maybe some other as well.
    Here are my scores.
    1. CPU 6.4
    2. Memory 6.4
    3. Graphics 5.9
    4. Gaming 5.3
    5. HD 7.3

    Those are amazing scores...
    I have a 15" MBP 2.8Ghz 4GB DDR3 (2.71GB seen, running 32-bit =P) , 500GB 5400RPM HD
    And These are my scores:
    Processor: 6.3
    RAM: 5.5
    Graphics (3D Gaming): 6.4
    Graphics (Aero desktop): 6.4
    Primary Hard Disk: 5.8
Now, im here wondering... HOW can DDR3, be nearly the same WEI score as 800Mhz DDR2 RAM? is it REALLY Because of 32-bit win7?

  • Adjust effects in the timeline

Hi all, thanks in advance for your answers to this...
I still can't figure out how to adjust effect parameters of a clip in the timeline... It seems like sometimes when I right click (w mighty mouse) on a clip in the timeline, instead of pulling up the paste attributes, etc menu, it pulls up a smaller one that lists only the effects on that certain clip.
Of course, in crunch deadline situations (which more and more these days seems like every second of my edit day) this would save oodles of time since I wouldn't have to open the clip in the browser and navigate through the effects menu to make a simple adjustment. Usually I will put standard color correction effects on clips and know exactly what to adjust, so this shortcut could potentially save me days of time (bwahahaha!) so I can maybe finish at 6 or 630 instead of 8 or 830 every night.
Thanks, I appreciate you all making my life more diverse through enlightening me to this shortcut.

OK, I think I've found what you want...kinda, sorta...
FCP5 manual Vol. III, pg. 286, discusses "Working with the Timeline Keyframe Editor"
First, you have to already have keyframes placed. Next, activate the 'Clip Keyframes' toggle (bottom left of the timeline), then contol-click (right-click) on the same Clip Keyframes toggle/control and choose Video or Audio or Select All for both.
Now you right-click in the keyframe editor area beneath the clip you want to work on and choose the filter or motion parameter you want to display.
At this point you can drag individual keyframes up/down, back/forth with numeric representation of your parameter...but it doesn't give you a way to 'type in' a parameter that I can see.
    Hope that helps,
    K

  • Internal RAID 0 with 3 or 2 Drives

Hello, iv been snooping around the forums looking for info on various internal RAID set ups...
I do a lot of editing with FCP but a do a lot of complicated After Effects stuff too.
    I am considering the following...
    set up 1
    3x 1TB drives, RAID 0
    vs.
    set up 2
    2x 1TB drives, in a RAID 0
with the other bay used as a render drive.
my question is, with a three drive RAID 0 would my read and write times be faster or slower than a 2 drive Media drive and one drive dedicated to writing for rendering...
any shared experience would greatly be appreciated, or suggestions...
    thanks
also i was considering the WD caviar Black drives, any good or bad expeirence with those?

Thanks for the links. i am considering this option...
sdd in the lower drive bay.
and some kind of raid with the other 4 bays... id like to do a raid 5 internally. is that possible without a controller, or how would i go about doing that?
i also had one other question...
i was thinking about getting this external LaCie 1 Tb rugged drive for my itunes, iphoto, you know things that do not have to do with current work, maybe finished projects(not project files but final renders), other private stuff.
my question is, would a 5400 rpm drive be fast enough for such tasks. like playing an uncompressed quicktime... the drive is only like 120 euros with esata and usb 2, but its only 5400 rpm. i like the OWC drives from the links you gave me, but i live in Berlin germany, and it would kind of be a hassel to ship all these drives... but i am going to the USA in like 3 months so i could wait if i need to...
    any suggestions?

    Thanks!
It sounds to me as though you have introduced conflicts with your third-party software (Chrome, Gmail video, etc.)
Check every one of their web sites to be sure you have the latest versions that are compatible with your Mac OS X (10.6.7). Also, check that there are no "known issues" for your third-party items.
Also verify that you are using the most current compatible Flash Player:

If you are still having problems after you have verified all of the above, consider all relevant suggestions from:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your problem remains in every user account you test after following the relevant Apple Troubleshooting suggestions, you might want to backup your Mac and then carefully follow the developers' instructions to uninstall +(do not merely drag to trash unless specifically directed to do so)+ your third party browsers and video apps to see if the problem goes away.

  • Scratched acrylic lens on built-in isight

IN attempting to clean a stain near my built-in isight, i (stupidly) used an abrasive cloth over the acrylic lens. Now the image quality is SUBSTANTIALLY WORSE and everything appears blurry. Are they any repair kits or recommendations for repairing this type of lens? There are lots of small scratches. I should have realized that it wasn't just a lens cover, but a part of the optics system! HELP!

    Hi crumbsoaps,
I agree with Ian, jewelers rouge should do the trick. It is much less abrasive that auto rubbing or polishing compound.
I have used it extensively, and also suggest you try it on... maybe, the bottom of your iMac (needs to be tested on like material)
A couple of other suggestions: make sure the stick says something like "for final coloring on metal and plastic" and I would suggest using a Dremel tool with cotton buffing tip - it's gonna be hard doing it by hand. AND, put a piece of tape over your built-in mic hole - if you get that rouge in there you probably won't get it out!
You can probably get the rouge at a local machine shop, or metal shop that does finish metal work. A very reputable manufacturer of rouge is Divine Brothers Co. in Utica, NY. You may be able to Google and find a local supplier...
    Good Luck,

  • Finder not recognizing images properly (maybe overwriting new w/old)

I am experiencing an odd and troubling issue with my 15" MacBook Pro (running Mavericks). This occurred on Saturday and I thought I was crazy, but now it has occurred a 2nd time (sort of) and I'm alarmed that this is indicative of some major issues with my machine.
I'm working on a design project where I'm asked to create images for a mobile web page based on an old set of images. The new images need to be the exact same size, dimensions and filename as the old images so that the developer can swap them in easily.
For that reason, I've downloaded the old set of images to my desktop, created new images and am overwriting the old images. (I am saving Photoshop files for my new images in a Dropbox folder --- it is just the final exported files that I am writing to the folder saved on the desktop.)
So here I am, 99% finished and I go to look at the images in my finder. When I do, I see that the images displaying are the old, overwritten images instead of the new ones. There is no chance that I'm just not opening the correct folder or anything like that.
At first, I thought the files themselves were being overwritten by their old versions, but it appears that maybe it is just the finder thumbnail image that isn't displaying correctly. When I actually open the file using Preview, it opens the correct image (new, not old). You can see an example in the screenshot attached. The old image (thumbnail) is the moneyroll. The new image is the man and the woman.
At least the file itself appears to be correct, though I have no idea what happens if I zip these up and email them to another user on another computer. Still, I'm concerned that this suggests there is something really wrong with my machine.
By the way, the incident I referenced on Saturday was much more troubling. It was an issue where I worked on a Dreamweaver file for 2+ hours, saving constantly before closing it. The next time I opened it later that day, it opened the old version. I thought maybe it was due to me changing the name of a folder or something and wrote it off as human error. But given what is taking place today, I'm not 100% sure that is the case now.
Has anyone encountered this? Any insight would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Yup. Thomas, have you tried replicating this in the other direction? In Terminal you can make a folder, chown it to root, get the permissions to the same as those of /Applications/Utilities,  then as a normal user, try dragging something
into that folder? I have - this is replicable.
This is a real bug - worked ok until 10.7.2, then broke.
I have worked around this bug by changing the permissions on my Applications and Applications/Utilities folders so that my account has write permission there without authentication. But that not ideal from a security standpoint.
If any developer out there could fire a Radar report off on this, I'd be much obliged.

  • Start to Finish in Premiere CS6

I'm freelancing as a finishing artist and offline assistant at a commercial shop in LA that switched from FCP to Premiere a few months back and wanted to share some of the workflow notes we've accumulated over that time.  Please feel free to contribute anything or point out things that we might be doing wrong.
First off, the work here is mostly comedy/dialog driven, so lots of long takes, improv from talent, and multicam shoots.  The footage we get is more often than not Alexa, and the dailies are, more often than not, generated out of Resolve.  Our offline clips are in ProRes Proxy for the moment, because we still need to use FCP for some finishing prep (more on that later).
One note for anyone working with Alexa footage out there:  when you are making dailies, or sending specs of dailies out to DITs or facilities to transcode your raw dailies into offline proxies, be sure that the Alexa reel names are getting embedded in the transcode.  In Resolve, for example, there's a setting (not on by default), to "use reel name embedded in Source metadata" or something to that effect.  This absolutely needs to be in place, regardless of which NLE you're using.  EDLs are primarly reel name and timecode driven.  Clip names can be squirrely.  Be sure your reel names match your source files and you'll save time in color and finishing.
Footage comes in extremely fast and we make heavy use of markers for jotting down notes on lines and transcribing improv takes.  The marker list is a really good tool.  We've used Prelude on single camera shoots to make subclips with comment markers for general notes and Speech markers for transcription.  It works really well, but it would be even better if it integrated multicam since we don't want to mark two cameras separately.  So for multicam breakdown and marking, we work in Premiere.
Editing is great.  Once the editors got used to the GUI and keyboard, they didn't look back.  Playback, trimming and versioning is faster and smoother than FCP7 by a longshot.  Sequence-to-sequence editing is missed heavily, as is match frame detection and healing.  But overall there's nothing that gets in the way.  Playing back audio in the viewer for clients is a bit laggy, but it's a Blackmagic issue.  Blackmagic output is sequence based, meaning clips in the viewer can be problematic for client playback since they aren't embedded in a sequence.  Audio defaults to SD output, so your monitor will need to toggle between settings if you play back video in the timeline and then audio in the viewer.  AJA overcomes this by having a global output that's independent of your sequence setting.  We've stuck with Blackmagic though and it's otherwise been great.
Multicam works very well although we've noticed that, when you want to play back a multicam clip in the viewer, it will only display the single cam view in the client monitor.  If we want to show the client a contact sheet view, as you can in Avid or FCP, we can't.  In the viewer, if you want to view in single camera mode, you have to disable multicam in the viewer.  If you try to switch cameras or re-enable multicam viewing in the viewer, it won't work.  We have to restart Premiere for that clip to be able to be viewed in multicam mode again.  I've submitted a feature request and bug report to allow 1-up viewing of multicam clips in the source monitor that still lets you toggle between cameras, ala Avid.
Adobe Media Encoder is a great utility for postings.  For large batches of files to compress, we save a copy of the project in the directory where we want the compressed spots to live, then import the sequences from that project copy into Media Encoder.  ME saves the files to the project directory by default, so this is our way of influencing the destination of the batch encode without clicking on every file name.
The only drag with using Premiere right now, relative to working in Avid or FCP, is prepping for finish.  The process is pretty rough around the edges and there are some missing utilities that would be great to see in a future release.  Here are the issues we've encountered and how we work around them:
    - there's no matching back to a source clip from a multicam clip.  Nor is there a way to collapse that clip.  When Premiere syncs cameras to make a multicam clip, the new clip is self-contained and has its own timecode (starts at 00:00:00:00) and filename that doesn't change regardless of which camera is active.  When you dis-enable multicam, nothing changes.  If you need to prep an EDL, you have to manually find the source clip and overcut it into the sequence.  Premiere won't help with this, so you need to be organized and know where to look to speed the process up.  It's a major drag, maybe, for us, the biggest drag in the whole app.
    - there's no duplicate frame detection or match frame notifiers.  For match frames, it's just a matter of skimming through the sequence to find them.  For duplicate frames, it's the same deal.  In both cases, exporting an XML of your sequence (no multiclips - those can be erratic when translating into FCP) and bringing it into FCP is the fastest way to get your EDL prepped without duplicate frames or match frame edits.
    - EDL export is quirky.  It gets the job done, but there are a couple things to be wary of.  Most significantly, any time remapping or reverse speed effects should be removed prior to making the EDL.  As a finishing artist, I'd rather get all the media in, with handles, and a reference quicktime with text overlays or a standalone document telling me what my speed changes should be than have an incorrect EDL.  Unforunately, Premiere's EDL generator will give you incorrect source timecode on reverse speed effects and won't reflect time remapping effects at all (the latter isn't surprising, although it would be nice if it picked the slowest speed and used that as the M2 qualifier so you at least would be guaranteed to have all the media you'd need to recreate the effect).  So, remove all reverse speed effects and time remapping and you have no problems.  A second quirk, though, is that when exporting video layer 1, any media living on video layer 2 will also show up in the EDL as a key clip.  The workaround here is, if you have multiple layers, just keep video 2 empty when generating the EDL.  I thought it would be a big issue that there's no way to specify whether the EDL is referencing clip names or file names, but as long as your reel names and timecode are good, accurate clip names aren't necessary for conforming for color or finish.
    - OMF and AAF export seems to work fine.  No issues to report there.
    A couple final notes:
We usually have a few people working on the same project, with one user having read/write access to the SAN directory where the media lives and everyone else having read only access.  On all of our systems, we've gone into the Media Preferences and turned off "write XMP ID to files on import." We leave on the "Enable Clip and XMP Metadata Linking" option.  This lets the write access user make metadata changes that will then ripple out to other users when they refresh their mounted SAN volumes.  Without this option selected, we've had markers, comments, and revised reel names get messed up.  I highly recommend these settings for anyone working on a project with common media shared by several users.
We've been hit by project bloating a couple times.  It appears to be caused by duplicate links to preview files being added to the code within the project file.  These erroneous links can get created when exporting with Media Encoder and selecting the "use Previews" option (a bummer because that can save a lot of time).  They can also appear when click-dragging a Premiere project file into Media Encoder, which unfortunately is the fastest way to load a project sequence into ME.  You can rescue your bloated project by importing it into a new project, but keep a watchful eye on your project size.  I'd recommend a daily import into a new project just to make sure you're safe.  It gets big exponentially when it does start bloating, and before long you can have a multigig project file that can't open or be imported.
Overall we love the application and haven't looked back (except to prep) since switching.  I've recently worked at other shops using either FCP or Avid and, for loading, breakdown and editing, Premiere feels faster than either one.  I'm anxious to see where Adobe takes it in the next release.
Hope this is helpful and I look forward to your thoughts and questions.

    Hi there David,
Thanks very much for getting in touch and hopefully I can give you some useful info to help in your decision making process.  I haven't encountered your specific issue and workflow, so take everything I have to say with a grain or three of salt.  Specifically, I haven't trid to do final color for a project using either Premiere or SpeedGrade.  I've used MB Looks in After Effects on some personal projects and was happy with the results I got given the short turnaround time.  That said, the projects I'm most familiar with are colored by a vendor and then conformed on my end in Premiere.  I've done minor color tweaks in Premiere, AE and Resolve, but haven't gotten too much into SpeedGrade other than just playing around in it.
With that in mind, I have a couple considerations based on your e-mail.
You have adjustment layers in Premiere and could use your MB Looks and/or Colorista directly in PP the same as you'd do in AE, so I don't see the point in using AE here unless there are significant differences in the performance of the apps.  The tech in Looks and Colorista is very cool and will take advantage of the data you've collected in the .R3D files.  If you're comfortable in that software and are happy with your results, I'd stop right there.  What looks good looks good, no matter how you got there.
One of the limitations you've imposed on yourself seems to be using the .R3D files at all times and making sure all that data is in play at every stage of post.  Do you have an anticipated final format?  Do you expect to be scanning to film and projecting in a movie theater?  Even if that's your expected output format, don't worry about data loss going to DPX.  That's an industry standard format for the highest of the high end feature film work.  Most of the VFX you see on features shot on RED Epics are not using the .R3D files.  They're using DPX files generated from the .R3Ds.  Ditto for nearly every commercial you see on the Super Bowl and all your favorite TV shows.  So if you want to get into Speedgrade and have it generate the DPXs that may (I haven't done it so I'm not sure) bake in your effects, don't sweat it.  Those DPXs will give you plenty of range to work with in color.  They chose that as the format to bake to for a very good reason.
You'd need to look at the files with a vectorscope to notice any difference.  Also, keep in mind that when RED first came out, professional grading software didn't work with it natively and everything that was shot with that camera and finished for broadcast or cinema required that the .R3Ds be transcoded to something else prior to grading.  You really don't lose anything by going to DPX is basically my point here.  Tons of data is tons of data, no matter what the file extension is.  Purists will crucify me for this, but I've been next to top shelf directors looking at ARRI RAW from an Alexa on set on one $30k calibrated monitor and the ProRes 4444 output from the same camera on another, and they've forgotten which was which.  It's easy to go down a rabbit hole with all the file types and codecs and so forth and completely forget about using the single most important tool in the entire business - your eyes.  There are specific tasks where that stuff can wind up mattering quite a lot, but for most projects it's overkill.
Lastly, the workflow I'm accustomed to in commercials involves getting the footage graded prior to final VFX being added in.  If you're happy with where all your VFX are at, you could duplicate your hero edit, pull out all the effects work so you only have the ungraded plates to work with and send that as an EDL over to Speedgrade if you'd rather use that than the Magic Bullet products.  Once that work is done, render out DPXs or Quicktimes of your graded selects and conform with Josh's reLink application (for movie files) or by manually overcutting your footage (for image sequences) and re-applying your effects work.  The advantage this workflow gives you is that your effects are still "live" so to speak.  Once your footage is graded, it's not unusual for details to emerge that effect your comps.  Having the base plates, not the VFX work, graded will give you the flexibility of making tweaks without having to go back to color.
Hope there's something useful in all of this.  Congrats on the project and I wish you loads of success with it!
    Best,
    Jon

  • Check if refreshing data in pivot table was finished

    Hello guys,
This is my first post here so forgive if I'm asking in wrong place.
Maybe you can help me or give me some hint how can I check if data in pivot tables refresh event was finished.
So I'm using excel plugin that allows to load excel spread sheets from external source e.g application server,
in this reports there are define some pivot tables with olap connections. When report is opened data is automatically refreshed,
what I'm trying to do is somehow check if this refresh was finished and start manipulating data in c# but I'm not able to check
if refresh was finished or it's still going.
I found that query table has refreshing flag which indicates if some query is running. But I'm not able to get to querytable object or  to listobjects object, I'm using excel 2013 and only when I added sql database connection to sheet there was value
in listobject object but still querytable was empty,
    What I'm doing wrong ?
    public void refrestTest()
    Excel.Sheets test= excelApp.ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets;
    foreach (Excel.Worksheet displayWorksheet in test)
    if (displayWorksheet.ListObjects.Count > 0)
    var pp1 = displayWorksheet.ListObjects.get_Item(1).QueryTable.Refreshing;

  • AT&T Lumia 920 - 2 Freezes in a few days maybe rel...

    Hello,
I've been using my AT&T Lumia 920 for 8 days. Within the first week I have had 2 freezes. Both were while using Bluetooth, but that may be coincidental.
I am not happy about these glitches as I was previously using an AT&T Lumia 900 since April, and it never had problems like this. I expect the 920 to be an upgrade in every regard.
    I am seeking:
An explanation as to the cause of these issues.
A permanent solution that will prevent these issues from recurring
The specifics of the 2 incidences are:
    First incident:
I was driving & talking on my phone with my Plantronics Voyager Bluetooth headset. I parked at BestBuy & went inside continuing my phone call. In less than 60 seconds, I realized that it seemed like the person on the other end of the phone was being too quite. So I thought maybe the call dropped. I pulled the phone out of my belt holster & found that it showed that the call was still connected. But I could hear nothing. The screen was essentially non-responsive. Within about 1 minute, my screen went black & I couldn't get the phone to do anything. I kept trying to to a soft reset like I did with my Lumia 900 a few times (power button + volume up). This didn't work (I have later learned that the Lumia 920 uses a different button combinatino (power button + volume down). I gave up using my phone & asked the Geek Squad boys if I could use their phone to call my customer back to finish the discussion so that I could confirm I was purchasing the correct product for him. About 30-60 minutes later, I was still periodically trying to figure out how to get my phone to come back to life. I pressed & held two buttons (presumably power + volume down). The phone vibrated & rebooted. Thank goodness.
    Second incident:
I was traveling & dictating an email (which I'm glad that Windows Phone 8 now lets us dictate outside of TXT messages. :-). My first attempt returned no results. I then pressed the microphone button again & retry dictating. At this point, it did something unexpected (I really don't recall the exact specifics). From that point, further attempts to dictate did absolutely nothing. I then decided that I'd just type the email instead. I picked up the phone & pressed in the body of the email. The onscreen keyboard appeared. But none of the keys actually typed or did anything. At this point (of course a bit irritated), I tried to get out of the email, and realized that the phone would not really let me do anything. It displayed the empty email and gave me a flashing cursor, but no buttons or keys would do anything. It was like they were all being ignored by the phone. Then I had this though.... After my previous lock-up, I had read a little bit online that some Lumia 920 users had experienced lock ups when using bluetooth. So I thought, maybe if I power off my bluetooth headset, the phone will break the bluetooth connection & maybe will release control of the phone back to me. So I powered off my bluetooth headset. Sure enough, the phone immediately returned to normal (although it did first quickly make a couple of sounds & display regarding the dictation [like basically the last time I pressed the microphone button, dictation wasn't able to come up, so now it finally did come up & then went away again all within about 1 second]). After powering off the bluetooth headset, my phone has been fine. No need to reboot. A few days have passed with no more issues.
    So in summary:
Is there a problem with the phone's bluetooth support?
Is there a problem with my headset (I don't think so, it works on other phones just fine, and it works on this phone 98% of the time without problems)?
Who is going to fix the bluetooth problems & when (Nokia or Microsoft)?
Can they be fixed, or are they problems inherent with the phone's bluetooth chip which are irreparable?
Is there any sense in me going back to the AT&T store & swapping for another Lumia 920? (I don't think so. Seems like most everything else with the phone works well [I've had a few other isolated incidents with other things, but so far I've written them off as software glitches that Microsoft or Nokia will fix with time]).
Who should I be reporting this issue to (AT&T? Nokia? Microsoft?)? What is the correct support channel to get the issue resolved most quickly? (I am very willing to work with a competent tech support person to troubleshoot & track the issue over time if necessary in order to help facilitate identifying the root cause of the issue so that a proper permanent fix can be implemented by Nokia or Microsoft.
Have any other users experienced this same problem?
Thanks for your time in reviewing my issue. I have been very excited & enthusiastic about the Lumia 920 & Windows Phone 8. I have tried to promote it with my friends and family. However, when I hit an issue like this which didn't exist on my Lumia 900, I find myself feeling a bit embarassed & frustrated.
By the way, to my knowledge I didn't have any other programs running on my phone during either of these incidents (definitely nothing else running in the foreground).
    Sincerely,
    Doug Mortensen

Don't expect support here. Nokia does not bother to pay a tech or two to support the people who have bought the 920. Not really a point to these forums.
Anyways, i have huge bt issues as well. Cannot connect or see my jawbone. In truck with pioneer nav system (it is illegal here to use a phone without handsfree in vehicle) it links, but when i make a call or receive a call it shows the phone off the receiver icon so it knows call in progress, but i either get no sound from the caller... at all, or i get a robotic mess i cannot decipher. when i cannot hear anything, people can hear me, but when i hear robotic, people can hear me but with distortion. However, when it reads a text message, the phone voice is fine through the system. Because i have to turn bt off then to use phone, i have to return this handset and just go back to android.
Have also had this drop calls a few times now as reception is probably the worst i have seen in a decade... even drops in downtown core. Battery life poor because i assume its always struggling for a signal.
