Iso-to-usb using cli only

How hard can this be? All I want is to make a bootable usb-stick from an iso-image.
And no - I do not want these fancy guis (ala unetbootin) - surely a combination of syslinux and copy from a loop-mounted iso-image should do it ... I just dont seem to manage to put all the threads together. Wherever I go I see all these weird and wonderful guis that supposedly are the best thing since sliced bread ... sorry but I do not want them!

Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If nothiing above helped, restore the iPhone to factory settings > Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

Using CLI to enter Mac local list on 1200 Series

I have a number of 1200 series Ap's that are set up for MAC Authentication based on a local list only. From the GUI these addresses are entered from the Advanced Security Screen.
I wnt to find a method for entering them from the CLI but am running into a problem with the level 7 passwords that seem to be automaticly applied when the MAC addresses are added from the GUI.
If I enter MAC 0011.22aa.33ff from the GUI and then look at the config from the CLI it looks like this:
username xxx password xxxx
username xxxx autocommand exit
how do I do this from the CLI?

I think if you need to enter lots of MAC Addresses into AP, the fastest way is to use CLI.
Refer to the following doc on how to configure MAC from CLI. Look under "Local Authenticator Access Point - Step 11"

If authentication is purely done via MAC, then you can do like the following example:
AP#config t
AP(config-radsrv)# user xxx password xxx group clerks mac-auth-only
Probably you need to use notepad to list all MAC (as username & password), then copy &paste to your AP's CLI.

A Google search reveals that this is a sensor error. The "V" of VPOR indicates a voltage sensor and the "P" indicates the sensor is on the Power bus. However don't yet know what the "OR" refers to.
I have had a non operative optical disk drive for a year or more but the fault with the video only developed in the last week or two. Could the "O" in VPOR refer to the Optical drive?
By the way, I got the impression from the instructions on running the Apple Hardware Test that I had to use the internal dvd drive to run the APT program from the install disk. But this turned out to be not the case. Just put install disk ito an external drive plugged into the usb ports and use system preferences to set this drive as the start up disk.

Connecting USB as "Charge Only" no longer possible after update?

I just ran the update this morning, and no longer have the option of connecting my USB in Charge-only mode. Is there any way to get this feature back? Certain apps (such as Audible) won't work if the phone is in PC mode. Any suggestions? (And why on earth would you remove a feature like that? Very frustrating!)

This is something that ones have asked in the Past. I have answered in this Kind of Way the Charger that Came with the Phone was Designed and met to Charge it. No other Device other than a O.E.M Motorola Charger or Style of Way. This is What Motorola hopes that one's will do and it will have better results for the Phone in the Long Run.. Bamboo tablet stops working? USB uses too much power?

Converted to macbook a year ago and so far I haven't had any problems, until this happened...
I bought my new bamboo tablet less than three months ago and recently it has stopped working at random times- and then, this message pops up. "USB uses too much power, will be deactivated... blahblah" None of my friends who knows a lot about macs can help either, so I gotta ask you guys. And I've tried unplugging it and plugging it in again, the message still pops up.
I only have my tablet plugged in, nothing else and my battery was well over 90%.
What is going on? +I have also asked on the wacom forum, but no replied so far.+

Is the tablet powered from its own power brick or does it get power only from the logic board USB port? If the later, adding a powered USB hub (has a brick) and plugging the tablet there should correct the power problems.
Some USB devices draw more power than many notebook can push through their USB ports. The powered hub is a great asset especially when using a notebook computer like a desktop machine.

While you can make a USB device read only, you can't make a port read only. There are ways to disable a USB port, but that's about it.
You can also use a OS X Server and with it, you can deny access to the device, but to make it (the port) read only, I don't think that's possible with any OS. You could mark the internal hard drives read only, as well, but that would be a major pain.
I have hundreds of machines, and the open labs are the only ones I disallow the use of USB devices for security reasons, PeeCee or Mac. Using the OS X Server, we can apply restrictions, as I do with Active Directory for the PeeCees.

Archlinux dual monitor without Xorg/Xwindows (cli only)

Hi,
i have successfully installed Archlinux on my laptop, everything is fine! Xcfe desktop env. is able to handle dual monitor with the "xinerama" option (move windows between screens) with the "/etc/X11/xorg.conf/10-monitor.conf" config. file.
But, one question remain : when i exit from Xwindows (cli only), my dual monitor is going back to "twinview" (same screen for both monitors). Is it possible to have a "xinerama" view (2 independants Cli screens) in command line only (like in Xwindows)?
if yes , what can i do / install / run or configure to achieve this goal ?
ps : im not taking about alt-f1-f2-f3 switching tty or the "screen" command, but a way to handle 2 monitors in Linux command line....

Hmm, I remember when I first set up Arch linux It would do wired things with the video in X, screens weren't layed out correctly, and I couldn't get all 3 to work ( Only 2 ) So I needed to switch to the "Offical" drivers, It works well and I play games so I would've done it anyways, I'm not sure what you plan on doing with your computer ( Games, just internet, media ) but the "offical" drivers might be worth a shot.

I used the repository method, and It's working fine for me. I will say that in general although the open source drivers work really well and KMS is just awesome! ( It takes almost 10 seconds to switch from X to a tty for me right now ) The ATI drivers are sometimes just less problems.

Is it recommended to use the evaluation version and then license it to make it a full version, or is there a better official download?

machines, so I assume I can turn evaluation version VMs into full fledged servers?

USB Audio Device only plays left channel out both speakers.

usually i use my Yamaha Audiogram 3 usb audio device to record things in cubase, and when the cubase settings are set it is fine, but as soon as i close cubase, the left channel of any audio (like itunes playback) plays out of both left and right speakers in the headphones i use. this only happens when the Audiogram 3 is plugged into 1 certain usb port (of 2).
its even fine when i have cubase running in the background while i play music from itunes. it just doesn't make any sense. it also appears to recognize that its stereo in one port, but not the other.
i would suspect it has something to do with the drivers for the usb device (if there even are any), that the drivers it placed into the system only applies to that one usb port, but if thats the case, you would think it would install new drivers for the other port as soon as i plug in my audiogram, but thats not the case.
no cd for the audiogram. you simply plug it in.
ive tried restarting the computer, plugging it in again, trying to change the settings. nothing seems to work. i need the other port to work.

You may also want to take a look at the Audio MIDI Setup utility and make sure everything is configured properly there.

The iPad does not have necessary drivers for the Pantech modem, even if you could connect it.
If you already have the Pantech modem, you might be able to use it with a CradlePoint WiFi router such as the MBR900. That would make the router into a WiFi hotspot. Check the CradlePoint website to be sure that model modem is compatible.
Another possibility is a WiFi hotspot called a "MiFi" that uses the same system as the Pantech modem. I understand there are both battery powered and plug-in versions available. Check with your cellular provider for details.

Wannt to use itunes only on laptop not desktop

i no longer want to keep itunes on my desktop, i want to use it only on my new laptop. what is the best way to go about this? also, all my itunes media is stored in an external drive and i wish to keep it this way to not use storage on the laptop. please help!

Yes, for instance if it is drive E: on your desktop, make sure it's drive E: on the laptop.
Windows has a nasty habit of switching drive letters around (in the background, without telling you it's doing it) when you plug different USB devices in, so just set Windows to assign a drive letter permanently. This is just to avoid possible complications. If your exHD is E: today, and then tomorrow you plug in a digital camera card, windows might give E: to the camera and your exHD will get switched to F: and mess up things with itunes.

Yes, download and install itunes on the laptop. I assume the desktop is already running the current 10.5 version. If the desktop is on some older version, upgrade it before you move the exHD over to the laptop.

You're not moving the desktop itunes folder anywhere. Youre only moving the itunes library database file, which is a file named iTunes Library.itl.
On Windows 7 the default path to the ITL file is

Just use Windows Explorer to copy & paste it to the exHD.
This is the itunes database that holds play lists, play counts, and other library data. The library content (actual song files) are already on the exHD, right? So you don't copy those. They are already there.
And what is shift-start?
Press AND HOLD the shift key while starting itunes. Keep pressing until you get the prompt to choose or create a library. Choose the ITL file on the exHD.

Burn ISO to USB or external HD with Disk Utility

I am desperately trying to burn a ISO file to a USB and external HD but Disk Utility does not want to. Instead I get the error message "Could not validate source - error 254". So there must be a problem with the source which is the ISO file.
I already tried setting the Partition Map Scheme to both Master Boot Record and GUID Partition Table. I also formatted the drive to FAT and HFS+. I cannot find the cause of this error. It clearly looks like Disk Utility does not like burning ISOs to USBs or HDs.
However, I really really need to this since I cannot burn ISOs with my SuperDrive which is also a common problem ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1918925&start=0&tstart=0 ) with my MacBook Pro.
I am 100% sure the ISO file is fine. Also checked the SHA-1 and everything else is fine. I should also mention that the ISO file is the Windows 7 RC. So yeah..this time it's not Windows' fault.
I just need a way to install Windows without using the optical drive. I don't even want to think about what I will do when Snow Leopard comes out...

I have not changed my preferences so where is this pop-up blocker?
I have looked at preferences on Safari and Google, which I do not understand Google, and do not see where this blocker could be.
Malware is something I want to make sure is not on my computer. Tech Tool Pro 6 is all I know of and it does not detect Malware.

Is this a memory issue, or cache issue, or something else? I've downloaded iCab and the site works perfectly with it.
Also wondering if I can manually reload/refresh web pages in iPad Safari.
Since most people with iPads will use Safari rather than iCab, I have to tweak this site to work in Safari.

Detecting phone numbers and making them clickable is a feature of the browser, and rebuilding your web-site links will not make any difference. Its done when the page is shown in the browser, not when the page is created.
