Issue with Option-Delete in Mail 4.4

For the longest time I have used Option-Delete keyboard shortcut in order to delete a message without having Mail display the next message (marking the next message as read in the process). I recently started noticing that when doing this, the messages are not going to the trash can and are instead being permanently deleted.
I can't find a definitive answer on when this might of changed of if this is in fact what is happening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have a similar problem. Here's my code:

This does not work even if destination is in the same directory.
Absolute paths also don't work, as well as relative paths.
I'm using a stock Amazon EC2 FMS.
Could you please help me? I want to avoid using cgi and external programs.

Option+Delete in Mail

Option+Delete in Mail is supposed to delete the message but not select the next. I always used this, but am now noticing, maybe since Mavericks, that any email I do that with gets permanently deleted, without going to Trash. So it's just gone. It's not supposed to do that. Anyone know what's happening and if there's any way to fix that?

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Issues with Japanese encoding using Mail

Since recently (I would say since I updated to 10.6), I have an issue with Japanese-encoded (ISO 2022-JP) mails on my English MacOS.
I have no problem to read, edit and write answers to any mails.
However with some ISO JP-2022-JP encoded messages (sent with Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 (Windows/20090812) btw) I have the following misbehaviour:
- if I send the message and let the encoding to "automatic", Mail sends the mail in UTF-8, which I do not want since most of Japanese computer do not understand UTF-8 by default (and the receiver gets panicked: "I can not read your mail T_T !")
- if I set the encoding to "ISO JP-2022-JP", I can not send nor save the message (see [1] at the end of the post). One should note that the error message when saving is really misleading (and yes my hard-drive has a lot of space left) and it should be fixed by Apple.
- if I dig a bit deeper, I can in effect find some characters in the original message which prevent Mail to send my mail. It however does not make any sense since:
- those char were in the original message properly encoded in ISO JP-2022-JP
- those char are always very common ones
The only solution I have found so far is to delete the original message in my mail, which is very frustrating...

It seems to still work: new japanese mails are now sent in "ISO 2022-JP-2".
However, for messages with the header explicitly specifying "ISO 2022-JP" (which should be "ISO 2022-JP-2" on my mac) it has no influence.
The only ways I see to solve this issue would be:
i) to force "ISO 2022-JP-2" for all mails (a bit too extreme)
ii) to force the use of "ISO 2022-JP-2" instead of "ISO 2022-JP", but I do not think such precise configuration is possible
This mess appears to be due to Thunderbird which seems to mix "ISO 2022-JP-2" and "ISO 2022-JP", but I do not have any working Thunderbird to test now...

Mailbox Issue - Won't Delete ANY mail

I seem to have an issue with Mailbox on my MacBook Air. Please note: I did NOT have the issue on my iMac, before I sold it and reset it. Both Mailbox accounts were set up exactly the same.
I have a hotmail account which I have set up through Mailbox. I can send and receive with no issues at all. The only thing I can't do is delete the mail. I have over 15,000 junk emails and can't delete them. It's exactly the same with my Sent and Trash folders. I like a nice clean Mailbox - this isn't good for my OCD!

Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Advanced tab for the account preferences, is "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message" selected and if so, what is your selection below for removing messages from the server when downloaded by the Mail.app?

Gmail App Issue with picture embed in mail body

Hi,
I am an iphone 5 user and have installed the Gmail app from google inc. . But there seems to be an issue with sending emails.
If a new email is composed with a picture copied from the camera roll or other app in phone and pasted onto the email body in the gmail app,
and sent out, the email body gets stripped off the embedded picture.
The sent email in the 'Sent' folder of Gmail app does not display the embedded picture. Is this a known issue with the Gmail app?
Is there any resolution?

Font issue with left sidebar in Mail

I'm having perhaps another/different font issue with Mail after updating to Snow Leopard.
I do have a Dell 24" LCD hooked up to my MBP. I've noticed the comments/links related to the font smoothing issues. I've played around with that with no noticeable change.
Check out the before & after pics. Anyone have thoughts?

Same issue here whenever I'm using a different color profile. Only the default color profile seems to work properly with the new sidebar in mail.

Issue with Attachment download from Mail?

I am having an issue with an attachment. I opened the attachment from an email account on my iPad2 and the screen has just gone black. Mail will not let me out of trying to view the attachment. I tap on the screen and nothing happens. It has frozen my mail accounts. Any one have an idea how to cancel the attachment if the mail is not responding?

Do a hard reset: Press and hold on the Home button and the On/Off button at the same time. Continue to hold even after you see the "Slide to Power off" screen. Hold until the Apple logo comes up.

Issues with iMac freezing using Mail, Safari, Chrome

I'm having issues with my iMac freezing, forcing me to hard restart my computer each time. I think I've had to powered down via power button altleast a twenty times today and yesterday. I've restarted 4 times just trying to finish this post
It seemed like I was only freezing using Safari at websites like facebook and youtube.com. So I switched to Chrome, which lasted a few hours until I started freezing on that as well.
I logged on as a Guest account and they seemed to be working fine. I thought Flash may be the issue so I re-installed but no dice. I emptied cache, cleared history from each browser, etc -- no help.
Then today I started freezing just using mail. While typing a message, auto correct attempted to correct a word and my system completely locked up from that.
I have plenty of hard drive space, RAM isn't an issue either.

I uninstalled the Glims plug-in on safari, and that's seemed to cure a little bit of the problem with safari. But I'm still getting hang-ups and freezes. I'm not even noticing a pattern anymore with which apps and so forth are causing it.

Issue with optional prompt

Hello,
We have a universe built on top of bex query and it has a couple optional prompts prebuilt with the help of variables in the bex query. My understanding is that when there is optional prompt the lov is not generated unless the user manully clicks the refresh lov button on prompt window. This is how it works in the webi report I built on the universe. But when I use the same webi report as a live office component in the xcelsisus dashboard the lov's are genrated ignoring the <optional> prompt which is causing lot of delay refreshing the dashboard. This happens only when I have the connection in the universe to use SNC( Single sign On). I dont see any issue with hardcoded username and password.
any thoughts?

When I have a prompt with <optional> tag in the universe the webi report or xcelsius should not request the new lov's from the database it should only use the lov's available in chache.
But I my case I am using SSO connection in the universe, when the SSO is turned ON the lov's from chache cann't be used, the webi report is not requesting a lov's from the database when there is no chache or when the chache off which is correct. but the live office plugin iin xcelsius s requesting new lov's from database everytime I refresh a connection.
In xcelsius we are not using any list of values, I don't think lov's are usefull in xcelsius dashboard as we can't see the prompt window in the flash mode.

Sateillite A200-1A9: Issue with sending/receiving E-mail using Windows Mail

Using Windows mail I have to close/open the programme to be able to send mails, they get stuck in the Outbox. By closing and reopening the programme the mail gets sent. Also the Blue figure 1 in brackets showning 1 unread mail in the Outbox is there all the time although there is no mails read or unread in the Outbox
Not a server problem as all mails are going/receiving fine on my desktop.
Pressing send and receive button does not help. although some of the time it will receive mails when pressing send/receive but will not send them
I do have Norton Internet security 2007 and am getting fed up with the continuing problems that this seems to cause over the period 2004-7.
Is there an issue with the Windows mail programme running with Vista that is known

It seems that the update of Software Desktop SMS to the newest version will help to sort out this problem.

Gmail causing issues with other email using mail app

I use the standard mail app for 3 hotmail accounts (with my own domain name) & a work exchange account (which I turn on and off as required). These work well on iPhone 4 & iPad3 using IOS5.1.
However, on adding a gmail account to the mail program I stop receiving all email on the hotmail accounts. As soon as I delete gmail on a device, that device I starts receiving hotmail emails.
The solution for me was to delete the gmail account as I only set it up for analytics & don't need the mail. Although this issue would stop me switching to gmail full time.
Has anyone else encountered this error & found a solution?

No, you can’t. Gmail doesn’t let mail to be downloaded twice by either the same or different POP mail clients.
I believe .Mac actually handles something like this but I do not have it.
Any IMAP account would allow you to do this. Actually, almost any POP account other than Gmail would also at least let you download the same mail on both computers. It’s just Gmail that doesn’t.

Issue with Swedish Characters in mail body

Hi,
We are sending mails to some other system from SharePoint. All the swedish characters like ä,Ä,ö become ???.
When we are sending mails from outlook to that system , we are getting proper mail.
so the issue is from sharepoint side.
we are sending mails in UTF8 format nad we have tried all other options as well.
can some one help us in this case.

According to your description, the email sent from SharePoint replaced Swedish characters with question marks.
I tried to reproduce this issue, however the Swedish characters in the email body displayed right.
Did this issue occur in all the emails sent from SharePoint?
I recommend to create a simple workflow with the send email action to see if the issue still occurs in order to narrow the issue scope.
Please also re-check if the character set for the corresponding web application is UTF-8.
Go to Central Administration > Application Management > Manage web applications > Highlight the corresponding web application, click General Settings in the ribbon and choose Outgoing E-mail.

Issue with data deletion

Hi
I checked the "lower case" option of a master data object by mistake. When I try to uncheck and active the infoobject, it asks me to delete data from all objects that use this master data.
Now, this master data is also an attribute of a couple of infoobjects. When I try to delete data in those infoobjects, it asks me to first delete data from all places where those are used! This will become an endless deletion if I have to keep going this way. Is there an easier way to uncheck the lowercase option and activate master data?
Also, if I transport the cube in which I've used this master data, and not move the master data object itself exclusively, will I have the same issue in the target system? Will the lowercase check automatically take effect in the target system?
Pls help.. this is critical for me right now.

Hi Adi,
It looks like you are in development server.
When you are transporting the cube in the transport connection check if the object changed is also included in the transport. Use list view in the transport connection.Try to uncheck the infoobject by right clicking the object and saying do not transport any below.
Is the object which was changed to consider lower cases used as a navigational attribute or a display attribute in other object?
Master data of this object:
Is the master data of this object seperately loaded or is it loaded by loading master data for some other object or has it been created by load to cube.
Correction:
If correcting data in all objecs is not your priority or concern or if you can live with bad data integrity in development server you could delete data from the master data base table and SID table using SE14 delete data(radio button).
You could then change the lower case flag and activate the object.
Load this object - via load to this object or load to other objecs dependent on this object or load to cube allowing creation of master data if it doesnt exist.
Depending on the above questions, you could run repair objects for the other objects dependent on this object or load their master data again.
Lastly, I would like to caution you , that this is a risk!! but wouldn make the scenario worse than currently it is.(of not being able to transport other object dependent on this, transport of this object itself)
Also take advice from others on these steps.I may have missed something.
Each of these steps is dependent on many factors
Trying this in some sandbox system would help.

Smartview 9.3.3 issue with Options Display tab Replacement NoData

I am testing an upgrade from 9.3.1 to 9.3.3. I have Office 2010 on a new WindowsXP laptop and using IE8.
What I have found with the Options menu on the Display tab that it will NOT let me put the value zero in the fields for Replacement #NoData or #NoAccess.
This is a huge problem for us as we use excel packs to upload our monthly reporting packs and have excel formula and HsGet formula built into the pack and when you refresh you get #Value error now instead of the no data fields populating with zero.
Has anyone else had this issue and can suggest a solution please.

Try #numericzero. I don't have an 9.3.x client handy but if my memory is correct this is what you need. Please note the memory is not as good as it used to be so don't be too mad at me if this is not it...
