Issues holding me back

Hi all,
I've been a PC user since I started using computer. I'd really like to switch to mac, but the issues with macbook just holds me back from buying one. I've got a few questions regarding the issues of the macbooks.
1. Heat. Comparing to PC laptops, how hot is MB?
I've experienced the very first set of MBP, and they were hot, even on top of the keyboard. The heat from MBP can make me sweat. Is MB similar to MBP?
2. Moo sound. Is the sound from the fan or other components in the laptop?
3. Discoloration. Is Apple willing to give us a new MB if we return MB that shows discoloration?
4. Software. MB seems to be doing pretty good in their software. The MBs aren't showing a lot of kernel panics. Is this statement correct?
5. Are there more people out there who have no issues with their MBs than the ones who do?
Are those people who have issues with their MB just repeat on stating their issues? so that it seems like MB has a lot of problems?
6. I understand that even PC laptops have defects as well. It might be just that the mac community speaks up louder.
or is it true that MB has more defect problems than PC laptops?
7. With all the issues stated, is there any chance that mac users have higher requirements to their laptops than pc users.
I mean pc laptops might have the same issues as the MB. Just that they don't care as long as xp pops up and run?
Thanks for all your replies in advance.
Jon

You are in a support forum so you will always see lots of problems here. The quantity of issues reported here is not representative of the general population of MacBook users.
1) Heat: The MacBook is hot. It is similar to the MBP. It's thin and that's what you get.
2) No Moos here. When the G5 iMac came out people made recordings of the fans or the inverter buzz and posted links to those and the noise was quite evident. The 'Moo' seems catchy so of course you're going to pay attention to it. Wow "Moo". Ok? If it was just 'sudden fan velocity noise' or something like that, it probably wouldn't be mentioned.
3) Cosmetic Damage? Buy a black one. It's also a consumer laptop anyway you look at it so consider it 'paintable'. Ask Apple directly if you are concerned.
4) The software is the same as all software for intel based macs. Remember, the macbook is the latest product using the existing processors. As far as the firmware is concerned it should be the latest and quite stable.
5) Probably. So people may whine, some people may want clarification through a preponderance of replies. Again, you're looking at a support forum.
6) I don't have any statistics on defective macbooks. It shouldn't hold you back because if it is defective you can RETURN IT.
7) Many mac users will have higher standards by which they judge the quality of their machines. Others care very little. It's the same with a PC.
Look, when you get down to it you can't lump heat in with defects. Either it causes the machine to panic and crash w/in a few hours of use and you return it or it's a mild annoyance for having a slim 'laptop'. The Moo noise...have you heard it, or a recording and thought it might bother you? Finish isn't a defect. People cry foul about it all the time. If the machine is in good condition when you get it then it's cosmetic damage. People always try to find problems with new Apple products. Many people don't and just take what they get, but ANY APPLE product is more highly scrutinized by the general public, users, prospective users, or competitors simply because they are the 'cool' underdog. I mean..
"Wah, the thing that I KEEP IN MY POCKET, to listen to music with has a tiny scratch on the back"..take a look at engadget comments sometime when a new machine is released. The first couple of posts will always contain something about 'and 5 more hours until mass histeria over a minor non-issue in an Apple product hits the presses'.
So really...don't let it hold you back. Most of what you are mentioning are other people's comments. If you're REALLY worried about the discoloration and can't live w/ it then go w/ a black one.
Better yet, save your money and get the cheapest white one you can. That way you might feel less of a 'emotional' investment in it and use instead of look at it like a conversation piece.
When I get a new computer I just don't bother telling anyone. It's like for me to use and stuff. If you need bling take the emblem off your benz.

  • 'crashing' issue holds me back from buying an Ipod Touch 2G?

I read a lot of threads where people claiming about disappointment on the frequent crashings of their Touches! Is that 'frequent-crashing' issue experienced by every Touch? Is it really a serious issue? Any advice?

Well here is my experience with my new iTouch 2G I just bought yesterday... it crashed already and had to do a complete restore tonight lol so... yeah... it didn't last very long for me. I would say pick one up because the thing is amazing and hopefully Apple get's off there *** and fixes this problem that apparently has been around for a while. For a company that brags constantly about how reliable and stable their operating systems are compared to Windows, they don't seem to care about this is issue. I am hoping this won't happen to me for a while now but since it happened in 48 hours of me buying it... I guess theres a pretty good chance it will happen again.
Ultimately it's your call, but this was just my experience and also my problem was with all my download apps crashing when trying to run them and this was after I had installed the new 2.2 update so obviously they have yet to fix the problem. They can say that it's not a wide spread issue but I think it's bigger then what they want to admit.
I guess i'm just disappointed. since I have always been impressed with Apples products and this was my first iPod... while the thing is awesome... I expected better reliability.

  • Weird timing issues when playing back a recorded sound file and with synths

    Hello there,
I'm having a couple of strange issues with playing back files that I have recorded using MIDI data which is then used to play an external synth which then gets recorded to an audio track which at the time is perfectly synced to a click track.
The problem is (and I really dont get why this is happening) when it comes to playing back the recorded audio file that sometimes it is either behind or ahead of the beat.
This makes absolutely no sense because sometimes it IS in time with the beat and other times when I play through my piece it is obviously out! I haven't moved the audio file in the arrange window and it is a permanent .aiff file that is stored on my hard-drive...what on Earth is going on?
On a side note, the same problem happens with any of Logic's synths when I use an LFO that is supposed to be synced to the beat. Sometimes when I play back the MIDI data it is perfectly synced and in time and other times it is horribly out. It really is just pot luck!
    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thank you supermacmom!
I have the LifeProof case for the iPhone5, and I remember the instructions saying that any protective screen cover should be removed before enclosing the phone into the case, but I left mine on with no ill effects.
But I should have taken off the back protective film, which was covering the video mic!

Obvious power issue effecting all back plane jks. Popping HOURLY (clocked) thru speakers, lites up lamp on doc scanner. Has blown power supply once. "Genius" diag NTF twice B4 power supply blew. Still have same trouble. I made very CLEAR to Genius Bar that it was a hardware issue after they continued to trouble shoot software. I was referred to tier 2 who told me they only worked on SOFTWARE. Does anyone know a more qualified shop who can fix an OBVIOUS mother board issue tracing back to the power supply? I had the same issue with a 20" with 7 visits & had to literally take a video of the trouble before they could figure out the trouble was the video card. From reading the sheer number of posts of the same trouble descriptions going back to 2007, it's all too obvious the path to MSFT is being taken.

  • Issues with play back in the time line

I am having issues with play back in the time line.
am working with footage captured off a DVCAM Tape in a DV/DVCPRO NTSC Time line.
My settings are set to match the source footage so I dont have to render. What ends up happening is the footage at times plays fine and smooth and then out of no where it will start playing choppy. like its lagging. But the Audio stay fine. I use to have to problem before but then it stopped.
Now its back and I can not figure out why it does this. Usually a restart of the system would help solve it but now it still keeps coming back.
i have tried different settings in the RT menu and still seem to be having the same problem.
i am running the footage of 3 1TB drives in Raid0 and the System has 16GB of Ram. So I dont see this being the issue.
    any ideas?

of course not, the system boots from a 320GB Western Digital Hard Drive. (the one that came with the system)
I have a feeling that its not the Hard Drive, but no idea what it could be.

  • Catch that hold the back cover plate fell off

Does anyone know if the catch that hold the back cover plate can be replaced? It was loose for some time and has now fallen off.

First of all, it's obvious from internet activity that this little latch is a problem with Blackberry's.  Poor engineering and shoddy work on the part of Blackberry.  They SHOULD replace them for free.  It's gotten so bad that T-Mobile sales people are disuading customers from buying Pearls just because they get so many complaints about the broken latches.  So, head their advice unlike me.
I hope you were better at replacing yours than I was mine.  I too bought one on eBay.  When I saw it I could see why they break so often. It is a tiny, cheaply made and fragile part.  I broke the replacement trying to get it installed.  So, if anybody tries to replace one themselves be very careful with the 3 tiny little pins on the latch.
Blackberry should be paying for these to be repaired.

  • Want a macbook pro but one thing is holding me back.

Okay I have been holding off on buying the mbp for like a year now, and have been waiting for an update before i buy, i am using it for school and work.
however, the one thing that was holding me back is that I play WoW and Im hearing people on the wow forums talk about how slow wow plays on the mbp.
I just want to be able to be in populated areas like shatt and get a fps of around 50-60. I mean my brother has a 2 year old dell xps 1710 and he never drops below 60fps, ever.
I don't understand how apples most powerful laptop cant handle a simple game "graphic wise". I mean what does the 1710 have over the macbook pro, i can't find anything.
I know im sounding like im mad, but I really want to be able to have a mac, but i also want a computer that plays wow on highest settings. I would be getting a 17inch the version with the 256mb card and higher res.
If somebody has this version and runs wow please tell me what fps your getting in pop areas.
also if i use bootcamp then maybe that would help as this game runs better in windows right now, "used to be the opposite". So could someone explain how to setup bootcamp. The last mac i had was a g4 ibook.

    Im running Leopard.
Sometimes when I am doing 25 man raids, Ill use Boot Camp to load XP. When I do that, I usually see about 15-25+ better framerates. The video drivers for the graphics card under OS X arent quite as finely tuned as those under Windows XP.
Its a totally capable laptop for playing WoW. I mean, you could probably get better performance from a more expensive high-end 'Gaming' laptop...but seriously, I dont regret it at all...and I play WoW a LOT.

  • Issues with Writing back data to Planning Cube After adding a new characterstic

    Hello,
We have two cubes and a MP on top of it. ( Reporting Cube and Planning Cube ). An aggregation layer has also been built and so does a planning BEx query on top of it.
Before Scenario: things were working fine as we were able to write back data to planning cube using the BEx.
After Scenario: We created a new Dimension in the planning cube and added a new characteristic ( lets call it ZX_KEY ) . This Characteristic holds the concatenated values of some of the other characteristics in its master data tables . ( For ex: Account_Customer ID_Country-code_Industry-code ).
This new characteristic is also present in the reporting cube and has been added and transferred to MP.
This new characterstic was added to the planning BEx query as one of the rows and we executed it the analyzer. After entering the required values for all characterstics ( including the newly added ZX_KEY ) and the key figure values, we tried saving it. Now this is where the Analyzer is throwing up this error..
~~Characterstic combination cannot be assigned to part provider ~~
    ~~Characterstic 'ZX_KEY'; Characterstic value 'R123000000_12_US_TX'~~
~~ Entered values are incorrect:Correct before navigation ~~
The value that we are entering ( R123000000_12_US_TX ) is picked up from the master data table of ZX_KEY by double clicking and selecting it from the fetched values. So i am not sure as to why its throwing up the above error. Request your help on this please.
    regards,
    Karthik

    Hi,
Try to check that all characteristics are correctly assigned at multiprovider level.
    hope it helps

  • Has anyone had issues with the backing of 5c coming apart from phone?

I have the 5C and always keep a case on it. I noticed today that on the left corner, the back casing is coming off of the phone. I am not happy with this and want to go in the store but I know they will tell me I dropped the phone. I am anal retentive about taking care of my phone. Has anyone else had this issue?

Answering this question will not help your issue.  You need to take the iPhone to the nearest Genius Bar.  That's the only solution that will reach an affirmative result.

I have purchased I phone 4S on April 30th 2014. Since I bought this phone, I have been facing issues such as Battery Back up, Software and Hardware issue and hang issue. I had visited I store last month where they just formatted my phone. The issues were not taken care completely, even till now the issues are on. I would appreciate if you could help me with the right escalation desk for raising my voice to Apple team.
I have been using apple product since long now and never face such dissatisfaction in past

Hello, when you are having an error on your iPhone and going to the Apple store to get it taken care of, make sure you speak up and provide as much detail as you can. The first iPad Mini I had bought had errors on it, and I didn't speak up and provide further details on my issue.
Hope your issue gets resolved soon!

  • Pre Pro CC 2014 Cuda acceleration issue - it's back

Greetings.  I remember reading an Adobe creative cloud blog that said we now would be able to choose Cuda acceleration even if our card was not on the very SHORT approved list of NVIDIA cards.  That was great!!!  Worked fine with Pr Pro CC (the original) and all updates!
Now Pr Pro CC2014 (or 8.0 or whatever we are calling it) comes along.  And after starting up (and having to re-set all of my preferences, etc.....why can't these be imported like photoshop does?) Anyway....getting ready to edit and bam.  Software-only acceleration is selected, grayed out and no choice.  Now this worked just fine with Creative cloud. In fact, opening up CC projects that WERE hardware accelerated now say they are not in CC2014.  This is a non-starter for me.
I have seen complaints but no real solutions or explanations from Adobe. Are we back to CS6 days of editing a text file etc?
Very frustrating....going back to old cloud version for my work today..
O yes, running a GTX560.  Which again worked fine with CS6, and CC 7.0.
    Thanks,

I mentioned in a thread today that we are seeing some anomalies from GTX NVIDIA GPUs. Please file a bug report: http://adobe.ly/ReportBug with complete details so we can try to reproduce your issue.
Also, see if you are running Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 (8.1)
    Thanks,
    Kevin
Thanks for getting back to me.
Sigh.....I didn't realize I was one patch behind.  Updated and it now says I have to update my video card drivers to get accelerated GPU.  I'll do that and check back.......  It's just I was starting to trust the CC patches, installing them more often then I ever would have before.  But if a patch can cause a major interruption to workflow, can't really do that. Or, perhaps as a suggestion, the patch instructions should say something like "CC2014 will require a more current driver to continue using GPU acceleration"?
I'll post back after I update drivers and try acceleration again.
    Thanks again,

  • A diffrent IOS 5 issue Stuck at backing up phone.

I cant even get passed backing up my Iphone, its been stuck at the same spot for hours. any tips?

    Hey.
So I figured it out and just wanted to share the solution in case there is anyone else out there having the same issue.
The moment I plugged in my device iTunes begins to back it up before the syncing begins.
What you have to do is keep your Task Manager open.
When it starts to back up the process AppleMobileBackup.exe*32 will begin. You should immediately end that process, this will speed things up considerably. iTunes will also pop open a window telling you that your backup has failed. This is OK, and obviously expected.
If you do want to actually backup your device then I would reccomend syncing it a few times while ending the back up process, and then syncing it again while allowing the process. I do not know why, but this gets the back up process running much smoother and doesn't take up as much CPU.
In general I would also reccomend closing the "Apple Push"process. This too seems to be taking up alot of CPU.
You will have to shut off the backup process from the task manager every single time you sync your device. Even in the same sitting, if you just added a bit more media, once you press sync the backup process will begin again, so be aware of that.
    I hope this was helpful.
    Good Luck
