IT 7.6 upgrade disaster -- HELP!!

my wife bought an iphone today and i had to upgrade from 7.x to 7.6 in order to activate. when doing so, i tried synching the phone with some of my tunes/podcasts and an error box popped up saying i needed 63 gigs more space! funny because my entire library is 23.1 gigs....when i went back to the library screen in the upgraded version of itunes, at the bottom, it says i have 4300 songs that comprise 551.84 GIGABYTES of space...and when i tried to synch my ipod it gives me another error saying it needs a ga-jillion more gigabytes to synch.....what in the world is going on? anyone? i checked my itunes library folder and it says 23.1 gigabytes. have i done something wrong?
any help you may have would be greatly appreciated.....thanks in advance and sorry if this is some ridiculously simple thing i've done!!!!!

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: No content shows up in iTunes after updating
You could also try holding down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\. Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

• Lion Server upgrade disaster, help restoring Dovecot.

Hi,
I tried to upgrade the Snow Leopard Server running in my Mac Mini to Lion Server, it was a complete disaster.
I made a Carbon Copy Clone of the hard drive as my backup before performing the upgrade, bottom line is that I went back and re-installed Snow Leopard Server and glad that it's all back up and running as before. The only thing left for me to do is to restore all the emails that was on the backup drive to the main drive.
I tried googling this and didn't get any straight forward answer, how do I restore all the emails from the backup drive to the main drive?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Cheers!

• GE 70 OND Win 8.1 upgrade disaster.

GE 70 OND gaming notebook.
Hated win 8 that it came with, and was using third part workarounds to give me a workable machine, but then foolishly decided to try 8.1.
First I needed to download windows updates. I normally have these turned off as I've had trouble with "updates" before. This was no exception. During the installation of one batch of win 8 updates the machine crashed, and could not be recovered. System reset would not work fully. Machine bricked!!
Bought a win 8.1 complete install disk and tried installing it after formatting the SSD. Finally got it going, and loaded drivers from the disk supplied with the machine.
Most things sort of worked - enough to recover the files I had been working on. At this point I felt it was mainly drivers causing the trouble, so decided to format the disks again and do a complete clean install.
Big mistake....
Now I can't even get through the win 8.1 file set up. At between 10 to 20% through unpacking files it crashes with a 0x80070570 error. Have also had a BAD_POOL_ERROR too.
Won't let me load win7 either.
Now it just goes to the BIOS screen when I turn it on.
Any suggestions ???
It's under warranty, but if I can fix it without sending it away, I'll be happy.

UPDATE:
Still waiting for the instal disks from MSI. I don't expect to see them after this time.
Bought an OEM copy of Win8.0, but still won't install. Still stops at round 18%.
I've now spent $300 trying to get out of this upgrade disaster, and I think I'll just have to call it quits.
The plan is to buy a new notebook **removed different brand promotion**
I'll leave the MSI in the cupboard in case I ever do find a cure.

Look above at my original post:
Downgrade Mavericks to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer
loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the
Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status
of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then
the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART
info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on
the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions
from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS
Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on
the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups made while on Snow Leopard, then you may do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion/Mountain Lion files.

I wonder if the disk being referred to is actually your iPod which is not plugged in. Maybe something has stuck thinking the iPod should be there.
Try completely removing all the iTunes related programs according to this method.

My garage band will not work properly with new lion upgrade..HELP
I have tried to open old session i have done in garage band and many of the effects and instruments I have used will not show up. The system seems to have a bug.

If the graphical user interface looks broken, that is quite often a problem of corrupted user preferences - have you tried to remove the preferences file, as described in the FAQ
http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/OddBallProbs.html
Here is again the short version:
Quit GarageBand, if it is running.
Open your User Library in the Finder. It is hidden in MacOS X Lion, so use the Finder's "Go" menu:
Finder > GO hold down the "Options" key, until the library appears in the menu, select it.
In the window that opens, open the folder "Preferences" and remove the file:com.apple.garageband.plist and com.apple.garageband.plist.lockfile
Then try again to run GarageBand and download the loops.
The preferences file stores all you user settings that you set using the "Preferences" panel in GarageBand, also the layout of the GarageBand window and the location of your recent projects. You will have to enter these settings again after removing the file.

• What is the quickest to upgrade disaster recovery system to NW04s in MSCS?

Hi,
I have an issue which I need assistance from SAP/Windows 2003 experts.
Hope you can share your opinion on an SAP upgrade issue we're grappling with.
Objective : Upgrade our SAP Bank Analyzer disaster recovery environment from NW04 to NW04s SR2, to be same as production. Both production and disaster recovery (DR) run under two node WIN2003 Enterprise MSCS. The SAP CI usually runs on node A and Oracle 10g runs on node B.
The Oracle software, parameters, database files and the SAP folder \usr\sap are already matching. These files and folders are on EMC mirrored disks, so this will be automatically synchronized from production status.
Therefore I believe it is only the SAP software components on the local hard disks - binaries, DLLs, registry, DCOM, environment variable etc, that need to be upgraded on the two DR machines.
For your information, the current SAP 6.40 instance, Oracle 10g instance, MSCS failover capability are all working in the DR environment as we just did an exercise a month ago to prove this.
Disaster Recovery Environment :
On shared drives that are synchronized between prod and DR : SAP folder \usr\sap including the kernel binaries, Oracle parameter files, database datafiles, redologs, sapbackup etc.
Issue : What is the quickest and reliable method to achieve the objective? Other than the SAP kernel binaries and profiles, I'm not certain what other related components are updated/replaced that are stored locally on each of the clustered machine.
There are three different approaches we can think of :
1) Repeat the whole NW04s upgrade process in the DR environment. This takes several days. The exposure of not having a disaster recovery environment for several days is a minus.
or
2) Un-install the SAP CI and MSCS definitions. Synchronise the DR shared disks from production to have the upgraded production NW04s database contents and SAP folder \usr\sap.
Use SAPINST to re-install either traditional CI or ASCS option 'System Copy". And then re-create the MSCS definitions for SAP CI using SAPINST again.
The disadvantage is I can't trial this in any other of our environments. Also, we want to run with the traditional CI instead of ASCS until early next year for other reasons. So we would have to reverse the ASCS back to traditional CI with this method, by reversing the steps in OSS NOTE 101190 "Splitting CI after upgrade to 700".
or
3) Somehow identify all the SAP components that are stored locally on each machine (eg. environment variables, registry settings, DCOM definitions, DLL in various folders). Then just copy them from Production to DR machines or recreate them. I'm not confident of identifying the local SAP components. And I have not been able to find any good OSS NOTEs or forum threads on this topic. The most helpful OSS NOTE I can find is 112266 point 13 and 19.
Thanks for any input.

• ITunes Plus Upgrade--No help from iTunes Support

I appologize for this lengthy post. Believe me I have more to the story, but want to keep it as short as possible. Bottom line is I'm looking for help with iTunes plus upgrade please.
My specific problem is getting customer support to upgrade my old iTunes songs iTunes to iTunes plus so I can use them on our new Sonos player. It’s now been almost a week since this issue arose and there has been no help in getting my problems solved. My main problem is that there is no telephone customer support for iTunes. All of the support for iTunes is now done online through emails. That is a huge issue in my mind, but not the purpose for this post.
Here is my problem..
I have two iTunes accounts. Account # 1 was my primary account until 2008/09 time frame when I switched from a PC to Macbook Pro. I have 314 songs from 2006-08 that were purchased on Account #1 that I'm trying to upgrade to iTunes Plus. Account #2 is now my primary iTunes account. The Account #2 songs are all iTunes plus and do not need upgrading. I now have all the purchases from both accounts on my Mac Mini serving as a HTC, but the old iTunes DRM songs cannot be played on Sonos until they get upgraded.
My issue solely relates to my old songs on Account #1. I have been trying to upgrade my account 1 songs since last Thursday. My iTunes store account is currently logged into Account 1 when attempting the updgrade. When I first made the purchase, I got the on screen message that I’d get an email with instructions to complete the purchase. Well three days passed and I never got the email. I also noticed that my purchase of $104 showed up as three “pending” credit card charges on my bank account records. This seemed odd so I called Apple for help. Big mistake!!!!!
When I attempted to call Apple Support I was continually given to “technical support” for either my Macbook or Mac Mini. They never listened to what I was saying. In fact one rep told me I would need to pay the $39 fee for technical support on my issue!!!! Finally, after speaking to three different individuals one of the “tech support” reps was able to contact an iTunes support rep. Note, that I could not speak to them, rather it was strictly apple employee to apple employee. I was placed on hold for thirty minutes while they worked on my issue. After thirty minutes I was told to go to the iTunes store and start over. I went to iTunes store and completed the purchase again. Shortly thereafter, I received an email response from iTunes saying:
Dear Tom,
Your iTunes Plus music upgrade could not be successfully completed because there was a problem with one of the items that was to be upgraded. Please return to your Upgrade My Library page and click Buy and your upgrade should be processed successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your business.
Sincerely,
iTunes Store Team
Based on this email. I went to iTunes store again and tried the purchase….again. I then got the same email response a short time later. I have attempted two other times to buy the upgrades but got no email responses at all. Late Sunday, I called Apple again and also used their online iTunes support page. I got one response late Sunday evening asking a question about error messages, I answered their question by providing them the above iTunes notice. That email late Sunday night was the last communication I've recieved from iTunes support. It’s now three days later and I’m still waiting to hear back from someone at iTunes support. All I want to do is spend 104 dollars to upgrade my 300+ songs, but no one at Apple seems to care.
I am really disappointed in Apple’s customer service. I’ve been a fan of Apple for quite some time, between my wife and I, we have 6 Apple products in our home. The lack of customer support is really disgraceful.
Anyone have any ideas.

This is a follow up. Finally, after almost 72 hours, I recieved another email from the original iTunes support representative. According to her, the problem is that one or more of my songs on the account are either not eligible for the upgrade or the file is corrupted and can not be upgraded. In short I cannot use the "Buy All" feature because I will always hit this roadblock. The only way to resolve this, is to upgrade each song individually or select a few songs at a time to upgrade.
I will have to do this until I get the song or songs that is causing the problem. Once I have identified the song(s), I can chose to repurchase them and get a refund. All songs today are at the DRM free format so repurchased songs will automatically be the upgraded file.
So I'll now begin the upgrade of the 314 songs. I guess it could be worse.
Okay, I got an answer and an offer of a refund, but this answer certainly could have been provided three days ago. Am I being unreasonable?

• I'm using iphone 4s and after upgrading to ios 6, my facebook app seems to have lsot the 'share' button altogether, which means i cant share anything on my news feed. I cant change my profile or cover pic on fb which i could before the upgrade. Help Pls

I'm using an iphone 4S with IOS 6. Before the upgrade I was able to share thigns from my news feed on facebook and change pictures (profile, cover) from my phone. • Picking up iphone at Apple store feb 10th- but bought it using a family members upgrade! help!

Apple said they won't activate it for me when I pick it up tomorrow because only verizon can handle situations like this-where I am taking someone elses upgrade- what do I do!

This a condensed version:
Power off the original device on the upgraded line, your old phone and the iPhone.
Activate the iPhone on the line it was originally purchased.
Take the iPhone off of the line by putting the original phone back on to the account.
Put the iPhone on the line you want it to be on. Reset the iPhone and then plug it into computer with iTunes and allow the activation. If the iPhone has been activated on one one and needs to be switched, you must reset the phone or the process will not work.
Call technical support, tell them that you want to take the device off of one line and put it onto another and they can help you with it. Be patient and follow their instruction and should be a painless process for you

• Did my hard drive crash? Do I need an upgrade? How do I upgrade? Help!

Okay, this is going to be pretty long and I might miss some information!
First of all, I have a 13" macbook. Mac OS x 10.5.8 2, 13 GHz intel core 2 Duo, 2GB.
There was (and still is) an x in the battery on my screen where it should show the charging progress. My computer could only work when I had it plugged in, where a green light appeard on the charger. After looking online on what I should do for it, I decided to update my software. It restarted, and the bluetooth update came up. I clicked "update" and my screen unexpectedly shut off. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it shutting off, but I thought I would put it in there just in case. After it shut off, I tried to start it. It would not start. It would turn to a gray screen with an apple and a loading symbol. I looked online (my phone internet) and found a bunch of different things to do. I tried to reset the SMC by taking out the battery and holding the power down for five second, etc., and a PRAM/ PMU reset. Still nothing. After a few days of trying to get it to turn on and no response, it finally turned on! Another thing I did, which I did not find online I just tried it because everything else was failing, was held down the power button until the light flashed and it would turn on. Except, now it takes way longer to turn on. The gray screen is still there with the apple and loading spinwheel, and then it turns to a blue screen, then the sign in screen. It still shuts off unexpectedly, sometimes right away. Sometimes it can stay on for a while. Eventually, it shuts off. I still have trouble getting it to turn on. It will make the start up sound, then turn off ASAP. I'm running out of ideas! I've tried the resets multiple times. I can not find the disc that came with my computer, if one. I keep reading online to install the disc and hold the c button. What can I do? Is the damage permanent? Do I need to take it in? Is there a downloadable upgrade? PLEASE HELP!
May be important- I tried a different macbook battery, so that's not the problem! I've also done the "software update" when you click "about this mac." I've conpleted the bluetooth update also that popped up when my computer shut off for the first time. When I shut the computer, rather than going to sleep, the screen and apple stay turned on.

If you have moved your Aperture library to an external drive, check the formatting of the drive. Other than previous Aperture versions will Aperture 3.4.5 not open any Aperture library, if the drive has an incompatible format and is not formatted MacOS X Extended (Journaled).
You can see the formatting of your drive in the Info panel, if you select the drive in the Finder and use the command "File > Get Info" (or the shortcut ⌘I). If your drive has a different formatting, save the contents to a different drive and reformat your drive using Disk Utility.

• Can't open old files in Pages. Don't want to upgrade. Help please

I am happy with my old Pages program ... some files I created on the old Pages open fine, as normal. However, some files I created on the
old Pages (created in Dec. 2013) will not open. I get a pop up from Apple saying that I have to upgrade.
I would be delighted to upgrade and pay the $20 but I read horrible reviews about the new Pages upgrade. So I would like to stick with my old
Pages but how can I open these files that are closed to me unless I purchase the new upgrade. Inexplicably, I can open some files that I created this month on the old pages. But some will not open.
Is there a trick to opening these Pages files ?
Or should I go ahead and get the new download and take a chance. I only mix text with photos ... no footnotes.
Please help. Many thanks ..

Hi Jerry ... you were absolutely correct ... I must have downloaded the new version since I found Pages-Applications in Spotlight. Then I dragged it from Application to the dock where it now sits next to my old Pages. I tried to open up my file but still could not. How can I export it back to Word 09 (my old Pages) if I cannot open it. And this file will not open now, even when I have my new Pages in the dock. Or should I just give up on opening this file.
Also, I think I prefer the old Pages (Word 09) ... how can I make sure that I am creating documents in this program. I assume that I can keep it and continue to work with that. I guess the only way to prevent this from happening again is to check if I am using the old Pages before I start a document ??
Many thanks again, Don

- installing QuickTime standalone, not regular

- setting up Norton to allow iTunes
