It is necessary to buy the DPS Version from Adobe to use the DPS Tools in Indesign?

If you only want the free apps, take a look here:

Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free content without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)

  • Where on the Adobe site can you buy Professional DPS?

This link shows you can buy professional dps from Adobe http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/digital-publishing-suite-enterprise/faq.edu.html#
    - see link Are there different buying options available with DPS?
However, when I call the number, the staff member says he's enterprise only and that there is no professional team and to try sales.
I try sales and they say it is not for sale via adobe only from a reseller - despite what it says on the Adobe website link shown.
Resellers are charging nearly double the price quoted on the link and prices vary greatly and only considerably more than Adobe price quoted on the link.
Before I go ahead and buy from a reseller can anyone confirm that you definitely cannot buy from Adobe. The link says you can, but everyone I've been directed to from Sales, Enterprise and Customer Services say no.
is it true what the Enterprise staff member advised that resellers are not supposed to sell at a price different to adobe?
Why does the web link direct you to call a number and fill out a form, but then sends you to Enterprise who say they know nothing about professional dps. Very frustrating!!! Where is the professional dps team and why does everyone tell me they don't exist! ????
    Help!

Thank you Bart for answering my question, however, the link does now provide a way to purchase Professional DPS. If you look at this link and click on 'are there different buying options available with DPS'.... Adobe Digital Publishing Suite - FAQ  It is the annual or monthly subscription of professional dps, I wish to purchase.
The link you pointed to, appears to be for the creative cloud, which does not provide the professional DPS, unless my understanding is wrong? I do not see anything listing DPS to buy from the link you posted. My understanding is that creative cloud allows for just the basic DPS and single apps and I want to purchase professional DPS so that I can sell subscriptions.
Does anyone know how I can purchase Professional DPS. I have spoken to so many Adobe people on the phone in sales, enterprise, customer service, technical and no one can find a way for me to purchase. The link Adobe Digital Publishing Suite - FAQ says it is available to buy both annually and digitally. Where can I do this through Adobe ????

  • Going to buy the 30' cinema HD Display

hello everyone! this is the first time im in touch with Apple!
this next week end im going to buy the 30' cinema display!
From what i read i will need dual dvi link for max. res. but my gfx seems to have only 1 dvi output!! THO it can reach 2048x1536!
will this give me any real problem? i need opinions to help me on my purchase!
im going to upgrade in na few months and this great monitor is part of the upgrade!
can someone please help me out! Because i dont want to "missuse" this lovely display and because it is quite an investment!!dont want to damage any hardware!
    thank you all!

    Hi-
I wouldn't expect any damage to occur from running at lower than optimal resolution. Having said this, it is possible that a card of marginal power might have problems driving the monitor. If the card lacks the necessary power, it won't hurt the monitor. You will only get a blank screen.
Good luck, and enjoy your monitor!

  • How to buy the 1TB PCIe-based Flash Storage ?

    Hi,
I own a MacBook Pro retina 2012/2013 with 256GB ssd,
I want to upgrade to the new 1TB PCIe-based Flash Storage.
I tried talking to apple support and was told they wont upgrade my macbook.
And that i should buy the SSD as a stand alone part and install it myself.
I have no problem installing it myself but I cant find it as a stand alone product.
The guy in support told me I can get it in the apple store. I went there and they dont sell it.
    Anyone have the same problem?
    Thanks

I want to upgrade to the new 1TB PCIe-based Flash Storage.
Honestly, do you NEED 1tb SSD?
You need to change the premise of your SSD use.
    see here:
Your Solid State Drive and having enough space inside your Macbook Air & Pro
Solid State Drive usage premise, or the “more space / upgrade SSD” question
There have been questions posed and positions taken by many people who are trying to use their Macbook Air or Pro’s solid state drive (SSD) as a mass media storage device, for either pictures, videos, massive music collections or all three combined; but this should not be the working premise of a ‘limited’ SSD and its use.
In which, it’s the case of those users with either 128GB, 256GB, or even 512GB of internal SSD space, that have or are running “out of space”, that questions are raised. The immediate premise of some users can sometimes be “(how to / if) upgrading my SSD” when in fact in nearly all instances another approach is the logical and sensible one that needs to be looked into and exercised.
Any Macbook containing a SSD should be idealized as a ‘working platform’ notebook containing all your applications, documents, and weekly or bi-weekly necessary files. All collections of media files such as pictures, music, and videos, unless directly needed should be kept off the notebook and on an external hard drive or likewise. While the ‘working platform’ premise is also the case with larger internal conventional hard drives of 1TB+, its implementation isn't as critical except in terms of data protection.
Realistically, you should at most coordinate roughly 20 to 25% of your total SSD space to all audio-video personal use media (picture / music / video collections), leaving the remaining amount on an external HD.
Nobody should consider any notebook a data storage device at any time under any circumstance, rather a data creation, sending, and manipulation device; and in the case of a SSD, this is more important for purposes of having sufficient working space on the SSD and reducing SSD ‘bloat’ in which cases someone is wrongly attempting to use the SSD space as a large media storage nexus.
The rare exception to the collective usage and premise of SSD use in which a much larger SSD is truly needed are for those in video and photography professions that require both the extremely fast speeds of the SSD and the onboard storage for large and or many video and photography files. However this also falls under the premise of a ‘working platform’ for such peoples rather than the intent of many who are using the SSD as passive and static data storage for media files very infrequently needed or accessed.
All on-notebook data collections should be logically approached as to necessity, and evaluated as to whether it is active or passive data that likely doesn’t need to be on the notebook, allocations of space-percentages to as-needed work and use, apportioning space for your entertainment media, and questioning whether it should it be on the notebook for more than short-term consumption.
Considerations should be made in the mind of any user in differentiating the necessary system data (System hub) comprising the Mac OSX, applications, necessary documents that both must and should be on your internal SSD, and that of the users personal data (Data hub) comprising created files, pictures, music, videos, PDF files, data created or being created and otherwise, that likely unless being used soon or often should be parked on an external hard drive for consumption, or temporarily loading onto the internal SSD.
You both can and should purchase whichever SSD size you need or see fit, but even in the case of the largest of SSD, unless use-considerations are made, and SSD spaces are allocated as should be the case indicated above, one can easily and immediately run into this quandary of “needing more internal SSD space”, in which instance a different approach in usage must then be implemented.
However it is almost always the case, that such large media files are wanted to be stored internally rather than actually needed, in which case the external HD is both prudent as well as necessary. Additionally costs per MB are infinitely less on an external HD than an internal SSD in any consideration of data expansion needs.
    A Professional Example
In the case of a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro Retina with ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.
You should also never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your Macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’. This is especially what your external HD is for.
Professionals who create and import very large amounts of data have almost no change in the available space on their notebooks internal SSD because they are constantly archiving data to arrays of external or networked HD.
Or in the case of the consumer this means you keep folders for large imported or created data and you ritually offload and archive this data for safekeeping, not only to safeguard the data in case your Macbook has a SSD crash, or gets stolen, but importantly in keeping the ‘breathing room’ open for your notebook to operate, expand, create files, add applications, for your APPS to create temp files, and for general operation.
Slim USB3 1TB external hard drive
    External Hard Drives
External hard drives are both extremely cheap and regardless of the size of your internal SSD (or even internal hard drive if the case), you need an external hard drive with your SSD equipped Macbook for several reasons:
    1. Data backup and protection.
    2. Redundancy for important data.
    3. Necessitated ideal space for large media files for collections of pictures, videos, and music etc.
While ever changing in price, typical portable 2.5” external hard drives in USB3 run roughly $65 for 1TB or $120 for 2TB small portable USB3 hard drives. Such drives range in thickness between 5mm and 15mm, with recent improvements in storage of 500GB drives in 5mm profiles.
There is almost no premise in which a small 12mm thick 1 Terabyte USB hard drive cannot be taken along with any Macbook as an external large storage extension inside any Macbook carry case or pouch. Typically such external HD profiles are not much bigger than a deck of cards.
External hard drives are a foregone necessity for purchase with any Macbook for at the very least Time Machine backups, data redundancies, and ideally for large media storage.

  • When I return my MBA 13-inch, should I buy the same or MB Pro?

Pardon me, as I'm still very new to the Apple Community. I have tried to look for an answer to my problem, but now I write here.
I bought the fully loaded MBA 13-inch hardly 2 weeks ago. Already in the first weekend I experienced really poor battery life. Like under 3 hours - with precautions taken, like shutting off bluetooth, turning down screen brightness and calibrating the battery (though they say it is not necessary now on the Apple site). Therefore, I contacted Apple Support last Friday. They say I can return my computer and get a replacement or the money back. So all is fine in that way.
My question is this: I really loved everything about the MBA (except the battery) - but now I have doubts on whether to get the exact same replacement or buy the Macbook Pro 13-inch. What are people's experience with the longevity of MBA vs MB Pro battery life?? And wich model should I get, if you recommend MB Pro 13-inch (GB, Ghz etc.)?
As this is my first Mac I just hope to be as happy with my purchase as other Mac-owners are :-).
NB: I use it for surfing (and my job as webmaster), light photo editing, watching videoes, listening to iTunes and so on. And then I plan to bring the computer with me everyday, as I have a longer train ride going to work. So again, the lightness is also why I opted for the MBA in the first place.

Return it. If you're not happy with it take it back and swap it for another. The fact is you may have bought a bad one so don't run the risk of being stuck with it.
As to your question regarding what to swap it for, only you can answer. I can say that I have a MBA bought about 4 weeks ago and I get about 5 or 6 hours out of it but not in one go. If you have a long train ride or you are doing stuff as you say (videos, music etc) these things will drain your battery quickly.
A MBP may have a more robust battery life but they are way bigger and heavier so you have to decide what you're happy to compromise on. If I were you, I'd try another MBA, see if it drains as fast and if it does then you may be the type of user that needs the bigger and longer life of a MBP.

  • Upgrading 10.4 is it necessary to purchase the 'Box Set'?

I'm in need of a little information, last night I attempted to install the latest version of iTunes only to find that my laptop's software (Tiger 10.4.11) is no longer compatible with the latest versions. So I have begun looking into upgrading my current OS to leopard. My system is currently at these specs:
    Tiger 10.4.11
    2GHz Intel
    2G 667MHz Ram
Currently 12.66GB free space (but plenty of room to free up)
So I meet the minimum requirements for an upgrade. Looking into Snow Leopard the apple page it states that as a Tiger user you SHOULD buy the Mac Box Set which is £132, now realistically I'm not too fussed about having iLife or iWork for my mac as I've never had them since purchasing my laptop in mid 2007 and personally see no real need for them, what I want to know is if am I able to purchase the Snow Leopard CD at £25 and still successfully upgrade without the unwanted extras of iLife and iWork?
    Thanks
    JAB

This has been debated till people's face has turned blue, purple and green!
If you buy the Snow Leopard DVD it will have only iTunes from iLife.
I'm not going to go into the ramifications of licensing. There are those who believe that because Apple advertises 10.6 DVD solo installer as an upgrade to 10.5 or later, and 10.6 Box Set as an alternative to upgrade 10.4 that there might be some licensing restriction or installation restriction. To be on the safe side, Backup your data, and follow this upgrade process regardless*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
iLife and iWork are not necessary for Snow Leopard, but are nice enhancements. Your older version of iLife or iWork applications may not work as well in Snow Leopard as the ones in the Mac Box Set. My FAQ above has links to reader usage reviews of which versions of various applications work with Snow Leopard.

  • I am looking to buy the least expensive high resolution digital video camera to convert/record 8mm video tapes.

Hi. Thanks for your help in advance.
I am looking to buy the least expensive digital video camera with the highest resolution I can find in order to use it to record 100s of old (1960s era ) reel to reel video tapes. I am told that in order to do that I must record the "old" video onto a new platform, which means I will set up an "old" projector and play the tapes and record the video on a digital camera. I only want to do this once so I want the highest resolution format I can find. Therefore, I am looking for a camera to purchase. Any help is appreciated.

    Hello Lance,
Transferring film to digital video is a complex, challenging process.  To cut to the chase, the best way to do this is to engage a firm that specializes in film-to-digital transfer services.  There are quite a few around.  Costs for 8mm transfer range anywhere from about $0.15 - $0.40 per foot and there are usually significant discounts for bulk projects.  Plus, depending on the cost of the video camera you would otherwise consider buying, you may find it costs less overall to use a service than do it yourself.
You also mentioned that you "want the highest resolution format" ...  Once you project 8mm/Super8 film onto a screen the effective resolution will not even be what we might consider "standard-def" in digital video.  And the larger the projected image the lower & lower the effective resolution regardless of what kind of video camera you might use.
A transfer service, however, directly scans each frame to digitize them and depending on the math the resulting digital image may technically be as "good" as 720p ... but the overall image quality will still be limited by the quality of the original film ... and still probably not up the level of "standard-def" digital video ... but way better than anything you could obtain with a homebrew projector-screen-videocam setup.
Why DIY?  Well, it sounds inexpensive and simple.  But in reality it is a very time consuming way to get relatively low quality transfers no matter how high-end or expensive a video camera you use.  I can share more details if necessary, but DIY film-to-video transfer is not the way to go if you are really interested in quality results.
