Item Hierarchies
Hi,
I am using Discover3.1 for the 1st time.
I have created the joins accross the tables...
Now i want to create item hierarchies.
Pl. advice me what is the criteria for this. Like how shd i decide to create a hierarchy for each item. What kind of strategy shd i look for.
thnx in advance.
Others might disagree with me, but the way Discoverer currently works (3i and 3.1.42), the best thing to do is to create a separate Business Area which contains complex folders for your Hierarchies.
The reason for doing this is that if you have multiple joins against a folder with a Hierarchy, that Hierarchy is available to all of those joins. Sometimes, this is not appropriate. For Instance, if your query is intended to only drill through Material Transactions but joins exist that connect your Material Transaction folder to Material Demand and the Material Demand also has a Hierarchy, both Hierarchies are accessible in your query. Sometimes this may be appropriate, many times it is not.
The Complex Folders avoid this as long as the Complex Folder is never joined to other Folders with Hierarchies. The Complex Folders allow you to use all of the joins you have created, so there is no extra work there. The only extra work is in creating the Complex Folders. As you work with your user's, you find that the vast majority of queries really don't need drill capability.

Material Item Hierarchies in SRM 7.0
Dear Experts,
we are on PPS 3.0, SRM 7.0, Extended Classic scenario and using the MM-SUS scenario for sending POs from SRM to SUS via ECC and PI.
The issue we are facing is the message mapping errors in PI, when the PO from SRM contains a material item hierarchy with free text subline items that do not have quantity, price or delivery date defined.
A free text item does not have any information defined, but XI expects the fields like quantity, Price, delivery date etc and hence the error.
The process flow is an item hierachy PO is created in SRM, replicated to ECC successfully and a Idoc is sent successfully to PI. The failure occurs in PI on its way to SUS.
Did any one face this issue with free text subline items in Item hierarchies and what is the resolution.
Thanks in advance,
ScottHI
This speaks about the status of the Cart. This means that the Status of the Cart is AWAITING APPROVAL...I dont know which document you have gone through but procedure for adding a Custom Field in SRM 7.0 is:
1. Create a Custom field in the Database in SRM. Preferrably add the field in an include and extend thta include to the table in SE11.
2. Go to Portal Login of SRM and right click the part of the screen where you want to add the custom field. Click on More Field Help. The popup will give you the name of WebDynpro Applicaiton which controls that area.
3. Login to SRM via GUI and display the webdynpro application using SE80. Enhance the Webdynpro application.
4. Add the custom field to the Context of the WebDynpro Application View. You will be selecting the field from the database table while adding the custom field to the context
5. Add the field at the specified place in Layout Tab of the WebDynpro View,
6. Create a binding between the Layout Field and the Context
7. Activate the changes.... you will see the field in Portal login of SRM....
For more details , refer to the Webdynpro help of the application...

The item Hierarchical Context Menu does not support pre-calculation
Hello,
Trying to download pre-calculated web templates via RepAgent, using the Hierarchical Context Menu feature within the template (populated via control query with Hierarchy) the system returned the following message upon file download:
"The item Hierarchical Context Menu does not support pre-calculation"
As a result the Hierarchical Context Menu is not displayed on the downloaded html-files. Navigation not possible.
Could not find any constraints documented in the online help, at this point.
Question: is there something missing on our setup or is this really out of scope for precalculation with navigation?
Any other experiences on that or shall we open OSS-message?
Best regards,
Markus
(We are on BW3.1)Hi,
we have the same problem. Does anybody have any hint or workaround? Is there a solution for this in 3.5 or any upcoming version.
Any input is appreciated.

I want to create item hierarchies
Example :
I have 3 folders
-JOBS(id,job_title,hour)
-SEX(id,id_sex_job,code_sex)
-STAT(id,id_stat_jobs,code_stat)
JOBS and SEX are joined (JOBS.id = SEX.id_sex_job)
JOBS and STAT are joined (JOBS.id = STAT.id_age_job)
But SEX and STAT are not joined.
I want to create this hierarchie
JOBS.jobtitle__SEX.code_sex__STAT.code_stat.
I have tried but i obtaint an error message which say me the join not find.Although the joins you have mentioned below look fine as you could write a query and get your results. However for what you are doing, Discoverer expects a join between Sex and Stat tables. It would not have any way to create a parent child relation ship between SEX and STAT because there is no join.
One suggestion is that you create a Custom folder which a denormalized view of all the three tables, so all the columns of the 3 tables are in one folder and then you could just create a hierarchy based on that folder.

Discoverer creating workbook with item hierarchies that I don't want.
In Discoverer PLUS 10g (OracleBI Discoverer version 10.1.2.55.26):
I create a worbook, but when I drag item, they bring item hierarchies, but I didn't create item hierarchies.
It seems when I drag all the items for the business area it's fine, but when I drag out a item, all others items are items hierarchies after that. Next I drag the last item, afters that, all items are normal, they are not item hierarchies.
In DiscovererADMIN, we did not created item hierachies who could bring itemhierachies in a worbook.
This problem is present one spécific database, I tested the problem in a other database but didn't appear.
Do you know whats happening?
Thank youHI Rod,
My problem is that we don't have any hierarchies set up in the EUL and we see item hierarchy in workbook, it's impossible because we did create hierarchies.
I created a workbook with a Bussiness Area named person, for example. This Bussiness Area got a total of 10 items and the datatype of each item is different, we have number, varchar2 and date. When I drag all the 10 items in the worksheet, the items are not hierachies, but when I drag out a item, all the others items are hierarchies, suddenly. And when I put back the last item, all the items are not hierarchies. I already said that we didn't create hierachies for that Bussiness Area or any others Busness area in the EUL.
We don't know how we can have items hierachy in a workbook when we didn't create them in the EUL.
I hope you will understand more what I try to explain.
Thanks for your time.

Approaches of creating FS Items in Consolidation
Hi,
FS Items has 3 types - value item, totals item and text item.
I do not want an approach where I create Group COA and relate it to Consol COA because the whole group has 1 common COA. I just want to create one main Finance COA and relate it to the Consol COA in Consolidation module.
Can I create FS Items in Consolidation module (EC-CS) that are value items refering to hierarchy level in the Fiinance Financial Statement, instead of GL Account level? Please advice.
Regards,
B LimHi
when i used EC-CS 3 years ago there was following logic:
- field group COA in SKB1 was used if you where posting directly posing into EC-CS
- if you used periodic extract you were able to create the FS items from the Finance FS Version with following path:
Enterprise Controlling > Consolidation> Integration: Preparation for Consolidation >Preparation in the Consolidation System>Tools: Cons Chart, Group Chart, Financial Statement Version-->Transfer of FS Items --> Copy Item Hierarchies from Financial Statement Version
Hope I am not repeating myself and you expected another awnser
Cheers

Hierarchical Tree IN Oracle FORMS6i and oracle 9i
Hi ,
I have written all the scenarios as follows. Please write in steps to do this.
I have the follwing scenario to create the hierarchical tree.
The display is as follows when the user comes to this screen.
CTRLBLK1 CTRLBLK2
SCOTT This block is hidden
John
The way I want it when the user is clicking scott it is displaying the records in the other block
the full tree expanded not collapasble.
Scenario1
CTRLBLK1 CTRLBLK2
SCOTT President
VP
Manager
Same is over here in scenario2
Scenario2
CTRLBLK1 CTRLBLK2
John President
VP
Manager
Clerk
The tree should be displayed not collapsed. What is way to do the above
in forms. I tried to do the way suggested in OTN. But i didnot reached to the solution.
The way I want it when the user is clicking scott it is displaying the records in the other block
the full tree expanded not collapasble.
Pls help.
Thanks,
PS1) create a item Hierarchical Tree,
ANS: The tree is created
2) put this to pull in data to the Tree
DECLARE
l_query VARCHAR2(500);
BEGIN
l_query := '';
FTREE.SET_TREE_PROPERTY ( c_tree_blk_item_nm, FTREE.QUERY_TEXT, l_query );
FTREE.POPULATE_TREE ( c_tree_blk_item_nm );
go_node ( c_tree_root_node );
IF FTREE.GET_TREE_PROPERTY (c_tree_blk_item_nm, FTREE.NODE_COUNT ) = 1 THEN
po_found := FALSE;
ELSE
po_found := TRUE;
END IF;
END;
Ans: I wrote this code in WHEN_NEW_FORM_INSTANCE trigger. But the code didnot got compiled . I did cut and paste of query too.
Pls help me in defining the c_tree_blk_item_nm and go_node ( c_tree_root_node ). I was thinking some code of this type would work.
The code itself didnot got compiled. It didnot ran.
3) put this coding into WHEN-TREE-NODE-SELECTED trigger under the item, this is to populate the data to other block when u select the tree node.
IF :SYSTEM.TRIGGER_NODE_SELECTED = 'TRUE' THEN
GO_BLOCK ( 'BK_AGT' );
EXECUTE_QUERY;
SYNCHRONIZE;
end if;
BK_AGT is the 2nd control block .
Help me in solution for this scenario in creating the hierarchical tree in forms6i.

Line Item Hierarchy in SRM PPS
Hi experts,
I am trying to configure Line Item Hierarchies functionality in SRM PPS 7.0, with ERP 6.0 ehp 4.
I am already able to create a PO with item hierarchy in SRM, but when the system tries to replicate it to ERP it gives an error message, regarding the lack of Material Group in one of the items.
However, the item which doesn't have material group in PO has item type Outline, so it cannot have Material Group.
In ERP the necessary business function is activated: PS_GOVPROC_ITEMTYPES. I also activated Government Procurement Function in SPRO: SRM Government Procurement Integration.
My question is: do I have do to any customizing activities in ERP for this funcionality, or it is only necessary to activate the business function?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
JoãHi João,
I have a requirement close to your's which we need to create Contract with line hierarchies for Services (as in ERP). Appreciate if you could shade some lights on how you enable the 'Outline' Item Type in Purchase Order in SRM?

0CS_Item with time-dependent hierarchy
Dear Experts,
we are discussing pros and cons for a time-dependent item catalog (characteristic 0CS_item with time dependent hierarchy in BW) within consolidation SEM BCS 4.0. Does anybody has experiences on this topic?
I am quite sure it will be a performance issue and it means additional reporting effort (e.g. using reference period/year in the report comparing different hierarchies).
I am not sure if there are any other risks so I it would be great if anybody has some hints.
Thanks in advance,
Birgit Laux
Message was edited by: Birgit LauxBirgit,
Some other things to consider:
- frequency of changes to item hierarchy. Could lead to a lot of item hierarchies in BW over time.
- hierarchy validity date does not seem to be displayed when running web queries and thus makes it difficult for the user to select the correct hierarchy when executing the query. Still looking for a fix for this.
- greater complexity in overall design. Is it really necessary to achieve correct financial statement presentation?
Virtual cube performance is not great but you could implement the data mart which provides typical BW query performance.
I stayed away from setting the item as time dependent for these reasons.

Import/export question....
Hi..
I have a folder on one instance which have almost 20 joins with other folders.... when i export the folder and import it on another instance the joins are not imported...
can anyone tell what could be the problem?
Thanks.Michael is correct, but it can get even more complex than that. If you have item classes and item hierarchies for the folder, and you are doing selected objects, you have to include those as well along with the folders that also are included in those definitions.
Rather than do export of selected objects, we choose the option to export selected business areas. Even with that you have to be careful. You don't want to share folders across business areas if you do things this way, as you can still run into import problems if you don't pick all the involved business areas (and trying to figure those out can be tough).
That would leave the other option to consider - export the whole EUL.
Just some things to think about.

Discoverer Plus loses connection when COLLAPSING in Hierarchy!
I am getting an error saying that' Discoverer connection is lost. Please contact your admin" when I am collapsing hierarchies. Did you ever encounter this kind of error ever? I have like 6 levels of hierarchies(date hierarchy, like yr,season, quarter etc)...So one hierarchy is Company ->Year and other one is Year->Season->Quarter so on.... So when I collapse one by one level its ok... but when i do it all at once from the top, i.e Company, it loses connection!!
Is it some kind of a bug???
Thanks a lot,
rockyHi
Well it does sound like the hierarchies are to blame, although to be honest with you I've seen Discoverer losing its connection for something far less trivial than that. The most common reasons for losing a connection are network issues and being out of memory either on the Discoverer client or on the server. I'd suspect that memory is an issue.
Now, your second issue relates to the use of those hierarchies. Are they perhaps date hierarchies as opposed to item hierarchies? If so, whilst they are really quite clever, they do tend to cause more problems than they solve. Personally, if you are using date hierarchies, I would create a materialized view or table of your fiscal time and then create one folder for each date in your folder. I'd drop the Oracle date hierarchies in a heart beat but this is easier said than done.
Does this help?

Building Business Area through Command Line
Hi --
Some of the adminstrator tasks such as...
1) Creating a folder
2) Creating a join
3) Creating a item class and attaching the item class to a filed
I would like to do these tasks eighter programtically (via PL/SQL) or through a command line script.
Just wondering whether discoverer has some APIs or commands which i can use to accomplish these tasks.
Any information regarding this would be really helpful.
ThanksHello,
I did try with the scripts given by you and the log says -
Exported the following Data:
Exported the following Business Areas:
Payables
Exported the following Folders:
Exported the following Item classes:
Exported the following Item Hierarchies:
Exported the following Date Hierarchies:
Exported the following Functions:
Exported the following Summaries:
Exported the following Workbooks:
Exported the following Automated Summary Management Policies:
13/05/2008 13:49:07
Are you sure that complete business area has been exported?
When I tried with Administrator GUI, the log file contains list of all folder names, items,item classes etc. Even the Administrator Guide says :
/business_area
The /business_area modifier enables you to specify a business area for import, export or deletion
Information Details
Syntax:
/business_area <business area>
Notes:
When used with the /export command, this modifier only exports the business area definition (e.g. business area name and description).
If you want to export the entire business area (i.e. including folders, item classes, hierarchies etc), use with the /all modifier also
This can be found at - http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/html/B13916_02/command_line.htm#sthref1227
So, what is your say ? Shall I ignore the log file and go ahead and import it or something is missing in the scripts.
Thanks. -

Discoverer 10g Limitations....
Hi,
Is there any document or can you give me some info about Discoverer 10g limitations.... such as the maximum folders per business areas , hierarchies.... e.t.c.
Regards,
SimonHi
I don't believe there are any physical limits to things such as folders, items, hierarchies and so on. The only limits you have is memory, CPU capacity, network bandwidth, hard disk storage and the database limits.
Of course, memory is the one you are most likely to run into trouble with so the more memory you have the better Discoverer Plus will be.
Best wishes
