Its Telling me my device has Timed out

I recently bought some songs on iTunes on my computer and i want to put them on my iPad, so Iplugged it into my computer and Go to my music Library and a message appears that says: Device "Michael" (Because thats my name) has timed out. What I know of as a time out is a period of time of inactivity but this is coming up after I just opened iTunes and then plugged in my device. Help Would be much appreciated I have been trying to figure this out for a few hours now.
     Thank you, Michael

Here are troubleshooting steps that should help you fix the problem.
    1) Quit App Store in multi-tasking.
    2) Tap Settings.
    3) Tap Safari.
    4) Tap Clear History.
    5) Tap the Clear History button.
    6) Tap Clear Cookies and Data.

Try purchasing an app again from the device to get the security question prompt. You really need to set up the security question.

  • How do i transfer music from my windows 7 computer to my iphone 4s when it says the device has timed out?

when i connect my iphone 4s to my windows 7 pc, it says the device has timed out so cannot connect. what do i do? i need to transfer music from my pc to my phone but it wont connect. please help, thank you!

Temporarily disable any security software on the computer, then attempt to sync content to the device.
If that resolves the problem, contact whomever supports the security software (not Apple) and inquire how to prevent their software from intereferring with iTunes.

  • How do I fix this error: The iPad cannot be synced. The device has timed out?

Hello out there! Would someone be so kind as to point me in the right direction in fixing my little promblem? I can't seem to figure out how to get my syncing process to work properly. I've updated all my apps and I have even done the steps to configure. I've chosen to use "my iPad" back up feature and then the next step is to connect to iTunes and sync everything. It will do so and then it will say in the window box of iTunes "Finishing Sync". A minute or so later it will feature an error box presenting the statement: "The iPad, "my iPad" cannont sync. The device has timed out." Where do I go from here? Thanks to any with some good solutions. LJ

Oops! Shall I add that I have recently updated my iPad's iOS software to iOS 5.1.1 and this is when my troubles began. :-)

  • Won't sync because device has "timed out"

My phone won't sync, I get a "device has timed out" message, why?

The device time out is a USB error from what I have read.
I am guessing the iphone/ipad  has yet to recognize the type of USB port it is connected to over the usb cable.
Rebooting by soft reboot or a hard reboot causes it to sense the USB port and adapt accordingly.
A  soft boot (home button and power button) with the USB cable connected probably works.
A hard boot by turning off power completely and then back on with the USB cable connected worked for me on my Ipad.

  • "Device has timed out"

I'm still trying to sync music and audiobooks but keep getting a message "that my device has timed out." Any suggestions.
    Thanks.

    Barbara,
I was having a similar problem. I kept getting a "device timed out" or a "disk cannot be found" error when syncing.
However, when I repaired my disk permissions, all problems (and weird iTunes crashes) went away and I was able to sync everything: photos, music, contacts, calendar, etc.
    1) To repair disk permissions (on a mac) go to:
    Applications-->Utilities-->Disk Utility
    2) Select your hard drive in the left pane
    3) Click "repair disk permissions"
    Hope this helps,

unable to download photos from windows to ipad. Ipad will not connecto because device has timed out. Help

Try to reset your device. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. WHen you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and try again.
You can also try a different USB port and different cable.
Is your iTUnes up to date? If not, try to update it.

    Hi Kaitlynlh,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your device is timing out, I would try restarting the iPhone and attempting to connect again.  If the issue still persists, try resetting as well.  You can find instructions here:

    Carmell-
When I've had a similar problem, it was because I was accessing the iTunes store from a device I hadn't used before, such as when I upgraded from an iPad 1 to the iPad 2.  It was a little confusing to me until I figured it out.
All I had to do was use the ID of my existing account and play along with the iTunes store.  As I recall, it asked for my password twice, and the security code from the back of my credit card.  After that, downloads proceeded as before.
