ITunes 8.1 no longer gives option to skip adding duplicate songs to iPod

When I begin to add songs to my iPod or a playlist, I've noticed that iTunes 8.1 no longer gives me the option (through a small pop-up window) to skip transferring any songs that already exist on that iPod or playlist.
This was a great feature: I could drag a whole set of songs and rely on iTunes to weed out any songs from the transfer that would cause duplicates on my iPod or a new playlist.
The option said something like you are about to add duplicates and allowed me to select "Skip" or "Add".
I can't find this option in Preferences. Has anyone been able to re-enable this?

I have this same problem. Did you find the solution? I sat here and played on iTunes for about 3 hours. I even tried uninstalling and installing it. Nothing works for me.

ITunes 11.0 - no longer gives acurate playlist times

Is anyone else having this issue? The new itunes no longer gives an exact count of my playlists. For instance, I have a playlist that was 63 minutes and 32 seconds and now it just says "1 Hour", the same thing goes for my playlist that is 55 minutes - It now says 1 hour!!! I sub at different places so every minute counts depending on the class schedule. Help - I am a fitness instructor and I live by every minute! This is a HUGE problem for me!!!

Its just the general dumbing down of iTunes.

Of course it KNOWS the correct duration, computers are very good with numbers, its just that the brains at Apple know best and reckon that Joe Public does not need this info any longer

Contact app no longer gives option to send text or email, why

On my iphone 4s when it press my contact app and it gives me a list of my contacts and I select one I used to be able to hit send message and it would give the option of either sending it to email or sending it to iphone. It no longer does this. Anyone know why?

I am frustrated by the same problem. I have been using OSx since the beginning. And, all that time, through every interation, by double-clicking on an entry in the Address panel, I was able to bring up a new mail compose window and have the address entered in the To: line.
No more. In Mavericks a new compose window does indeed come up when an address is double-clicked, but the adress does not get entered on the "To" line. I have to click the "To" button (on the address panel), an extra operation.
If someone knows how to restore the original sleek functionality of having the address moved, please tell me.

Clicking on Safari no longer gives option to open new windows

Hi,
Snow Leopard is fast for me and has given me back 11 Gigs of space so I'm delighted .
However, in Leopard - if you wanted a new safari window while another was already opened, all you had to do was keep the safari logo clicked, and in the options that came up, you would click on New Window"
This option no longer exists - is there anyway to force it back?
You can still press cmd and N to get a new wndow but the old option was nice.

Tom ~ You can still get the options (which include New Window) to pop up from Safari's Dock icon by doing one of the following:
• Right click
• Control click
• Two-finger tap (if configured for "secondary click" in trackpad System Prefs)

I have ipod touch running ios 5.1.1 , when i sync it in mac os 10.6.8 using itunes 10.6.3 ,it gives the message "The software required for this iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the required software"

it worked . i moved itunes.app to trash. downloaded itunes 10.6.3 and then installed , restarted and now my ipod touch gets detected. thank u .

Itunes says it's not installed properly and won't import songs to ipod nano

Everytime I connect my ipod to the computer a message comes up that itunes wasn't installed properlly. Itunes will open but my songs aren't updated to my ipod. It was installed from the cd too. I've tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it but the same problem occurs. Help!

okay. if you don't want to update to 7.0.x, let's try an update to 6.0.5.20 to see if that helps. (the itunes versions 6.0.3.5 through 6.0.5.20 tended to be more stable than the 6.0.1.3s.)
download and save to your hard drive a copy of the 6.0.5.20 installer. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.

Syncing music with iTunes 11.3.1 to my iPad2. Skipping LOTS of songs. Why?

Using iTunes 11.3.1 and syncing to iPad2. When I open the music app on the iPad I noticed that there is only about a 1/3 of my songs. I thought it was a bad sync or something to restored the iPad, set up as new iPad, and started fresh. I started syncing my music again and watched the sync take place. 2/3 of my songs are still being skipped and grayed out. It doesn't seem to matter if it was imported via disc or purchased online. There's no issue of Apple ID that I'm aware of. Any suggestions?

I should also mention that all of my files on the iPod were erased and now I have nothing on there.

Song downloaded (local), now how do I get it back to iTunes Match? (no longer want it local)

So I have joined iTunes match (which works GREAT so far) and have one problem I just cant figure out.
History:
I wanted to use a song (up in the cloud) for an iMovie project. No music was available from iMovie... OK, i figured that was because of iTunes match. Sure enough, I go into iTunes and download the song to my MBA, and great! the song now shows up in iMovie.
Issue:
Since I don't want the song on my hard drive anymore (SSD storage is precious), I removed the song from my iTunes library, and re-syncd with iTunes match thinking that would work. Now, in iTunes, there is no longer a cloud icon next to that song, and there's an error if I double click it (attempt to play the song.
iTunes match still looks/functions fine on my Apple TV, iPhones, and iPad... but that songs not playable on the MBA anymore. What did I miss?

To remove a song from the iTunes library but not the cloud never, ever, ever delete the file from the file system (which is what you did). Always delete the track from within iTunes, and choose to move the file to the trash.
To fix this error simply delete the "track" from the iTunes library, but not the cloud. There is no need to use the "update iTunes Match" menu command.

I'm expreriencing the same conditions with the same environment. Windows 8, iTunes-64 11.1.2.32, iTunes Store with a processing bar up to 80 +/- and the POPUP MESSAGE OF "iTunes stopped working. The error ...."
I UNINSTALLED, iTUNES WITH NO POSITIVE RESULT. I CHECKED THE FIREWALL AND IS THE SAME DEFINITION AS THE PREVIOUS ITUNES VERSION.

Within iTunes is there a way to automatically detect and delete duplicate songs - i.e. I know how to find and identify the duplicates but do not want to have to remove them one by one?

No... for the simple fact that iTunes has no way of knowing which is the correct one to keep. In many cases, duplicate songs are not simply duplicate entries in the library database but are in fact multiple copies of the same song.

When trying to manually add new songs to ipod, itunes gets stuck on preparing to update and does not transfer songs.

While adding new songs to ipod touch, all was fine.
Then suddenly, everytime I tried to add new songs, Itunes got stuck on "preparing to update."
Now I can add no songs at all.

Somebody on twitter mentioned temporarily turning off their passcode before syncing and that seemed to help.

Bad idea.
Content bought with an Apple ID is forever associated with that Apple ID. Apple will not transfer content from one Apple ID to another and Apple will not merge Apple IDs. Unless you are prepared to forfeit all the previously purchased content and buy it all again with the new Apple ID, you will need to maintain the old ID to update and redownload your content.

Only songs in this location will be deleted from the HD when delting from iTunes.
Also, iTunes prefs > Advanced.
Click Reset Warnings.
If you are deleting from a playlist, it will only delete from that playlist.
Hold Shift and press Delete to remove from the playlist and from the library.

Go to Store > View My Account > Edit Purchase Info. Then just click "No credit card" and hit Okay, and it will remove all of the info. Good luck.
