ITunes deleted several songs & podcasts

Hi,
I'm using iTunes 7.6 on WinXP and have noticed 4 songs and several podcasts have been deleted from iTunes. The entries still show up with the "" symbol, but the files are gone. I've seen some others on the web reporting this problem and am looking for any possible explainations or solutions.
I believe that all the songs were downloaded from the iTunes store. My harddrive has plenty of space left, and I have "Keep iTunes Folder Organized" turned on. I think this is a bug in iTunes, as I don't think I did anything that would have deleted them. (And unfortunately, my backups are nightly, so I don't have a backup copy of the songs.) This makes me not really trust iTunes and I'm looking for any information on this issue.
Thanks!

I am so totally with you. It's happened to me just to my purchased DRM-free music four times! Everytime i've been lucky enough to have it saved on my iPod, but this is getting irritating. I just bought some songs at midnight and then shut off my computer. The next morning, I turn it on and two of the songs just magically disappeared. The folder is still there, but no songs.

  • ITunes deleted my songs from my HARD DRIVE!

iTunes not only has deleted a few files from my library, but it ALSO deleted songs off my hard drive!
I thought, "Well, maybe they just got moved around somehow." But, I thought about how much I go into my iTunes folder and then it dawned on me that I hadn't done that in about a month or so. The deleting thing started happening about a week ago. It's a few songs a day. Seriously. *?
I feel like if I'm spending several thousand dollars on Apple's products (computers, accessories, and music), Apple needs to be a little more appreciative.
If it's a bug in the new iTunes, then Apple needs to be sensitive to the fact that music is LOST permanently! It's frustrating to think about all the music that I've lost and PAID for. If I'm using the iTunes store and iTunes to buy/play music, then Apple needs to come out and apologize and reimburse for what was lost.
I can understand why some of you are frustrated that iTunes is deleting songs from your library, but is there anyone else who is having music deleted from their hard drive?

I'm a bit upset, too. It's only deleted one song, but why did that random song go, and when will it happen to 100s of them?
I have the song on CD and can re-rip it, but that's not the point - it shouldn't go missing from the hard drive.
I've aleady resigned myself to backing up the ITL library file on a regular basis in case it gets mysteriously corrupted.
I'm not sure iTunes deleted this song, but it sure is suspicious.

  • Hi.Have organized all my songs in itunes ,deleted unwanted songs and anupdated the album artwork but it has not changed them in my itunes media folder location in the C drive. How do i change this and back them up now i have everything the way i want it ?

    Hi
-I have organized all my songs in iTunes ,deleted unwanted songs and updated the album artwork but it has not changed them in my iTunes media folder location in my C Drive.
How do I update it there so it is the same as my iTunes now so i can back it all up?
    Thankyou.

I solved my problem. Here's how:
    1. Right click iTunes and click properties from the "Windows 8 Desktop" (or if you want to call it the 7 desktop thats fine too)
    2. Select the compatibility tab.
    3. Set compatibility mode to Windows 7 and click apply.
    4. Open iTunes, sign into iTunes store, Turn on iTunes Match, Add your computer.
    5. Close Program
    6. Restart Computer

  • ITunes deleting/losing songs

I have read some topics, but they don't appear to apply to my actual problem.
Does iTunes delete unplayed songs? Because it seems like every so often songs I haven't played appear to disappear. And I don't see them in my HD folder. Can anyone help me find them or explain how to stop it?

    Hey everyone,
I have noticed the exact same thing as ccpickre above, lots of poeple have posted that itunes has lost track of songs that still exist in the library folder. I still get the "original file could not be found" message and little exclamation mark, but itunes is **** right because I can't find it using spotlight either, its gone from the library!
I don't believe that itunes would delete old songs, not even if your hard disk was full. Ccpickre , have you copied your library from another HD at some point? When I got my new mac I simply copied the library and library file from the old to the new. The songs that are going missing cannot all have been missing since before I copied, though, because more and more are being lost. I also tend only to get the message when I sync my ipod, itunes says "some songs, including xxx could not be copied to your ipod because they could not be found", yet xxx tends to change, indicating that more and more are being lost. All a bit odd
The fact remains, however, that they are all songs I have not played for some time... Much as I'd like not to lose them, I can't be arsed to listen to all 10 days of music just to bring their play counts up to date!! Any other suggestions?!
    Cheers,
    Tim

  • ITunes Deleted My Songs w/o Me Telling it To!

I downloaded an album by Good Charlotte off of iTunes. While it was loading, I deleted a few playlists, then created a new one, into which I moved the album and some other songs. I realized that some of my songs and albums weren't there, so I closed out of iTunes and reopened it. This time those songs were there, but the Good Charlotte album wasn't, plus it had reset everthing to before I deleted the playlists! HELP! X0

  • Does downloading the new version of itunes delete the songs already downloaded?

Does downloading the new version of itunes delete the songs already downloaded in the older version?

If it did, we would all still be on iTunes 1.0.

  • Itunes deleting purchased songs

For some reason itunes has started to move my purchased (itunes store) songs to my PC recycle bin. I don't know if this is realated but it started happening after I began to download and load more podcasts onto my ipod. Does anyone know what the problem is??

I don't know why Apple defenders make this so complicated. There are literally youtube videos out there of iTunes deleting music/video files. I have had it happen so many times that I stopped using iTunes and Apple's media service all together.
iTunes, not some other windows application as I have seen here, is deleting files. I have seen iTunes crash when trying to open a music/video file and have seen it disappear from an open Finder window. And for the record I have never had Window Media Player ever delete a file from my PC.
I have also noticed my non-purchased music disappearing slowly over time especially each time iTunes loses connection with my NAS, don't ask me how a mac running 24/7 connected to a network via an ethernet cable can lose connection to a NAS that is just an apple thing my Windows machines have no issue, several non-purchased deletions occur.
I think Apple has a serious code issue on their hands, application crashing should never cause data loss, but we will see if they are more interested in defending apple's reputation or taking care of their customers.

  • Itunes deleted ipod songs

Due to a virus, my computer guy erased my hard drive, saving all the i-tunes songs in the library, in a folder. After he cleaned the hard drive, I re-installed itunes onto the computer. When my daughter plugged in her ipod, the itunes DELETED all her songs on her ipod. Her library is in a folder from the computer guy's backup. How do I get the songs back to her Ipod?????

    Opemn iTunes.
Drag the files on the backup disc onto iTunes, then plug in the iPod.

  • 40 minutes into listening, itunes deletes my current podcast with no way to recover it.

3 times now I've been listening to a free podcast I am subscribed to and roughly 3/4 of the way through the podcast it just disappears.  The sound abruptly stops and the current podcast I'm listening to is gone.  Deleted.  No idea how or why.  This is just one of the multiple bugs itunes has created in the last year or so of updates.

You don't mention what you are using. If not the ATI 5770 or above, get one.
Replace the graphic card likely even as troubleshooting
    reset SMC
Make a current clone or two
Boot off clone or setup a clean new emergency system for maintenance

  • ITunes deletes my songs

When i recently synced my Iphone to ITunes, it deleted a lot of albums on the IPhone and some of them also in my ITunes on the computer so they now are nowhere on any of my products. Can I get those songs back without paying again?
Some of the albums that has been missing on the computer haven't been able to sync into ITunes on the computer for a long time, even with and older software update

  • ITunes Match does not list all my music before signing up. Only the ones i've purchased thru itunes and several songs of my own.  Where can I find my 400  missing songs?  Being able to store ALL music is the only reason why I signed up. Please help.

iTunes Match does not list all the music I had on my iphone. Not on my phone or iTunes. Only shows the music I've purchased from itunes and none of my 400+ songs.  Please help. Thank you.

  • ITunes deletes partly played podcasts from iPhone

When syncing iTunes (9.03) and iPhone 3Gs (3.1.3) I still lose partly played podcasts. I've set it to automatically include the 5 least recent new episodes of selected podcasts.
Partly played podcasts (most assuredly play count of less than 1) are not on the iPhone anymore after sync. I thought that had been changed?

I'm experiencing the same thing...thought I had changed a setting somewhere. Let me know if you find a fix.

  • How do I stop itunes deleting my songs

When I open itunes on my laptop all my media is missing, all preferences have reverted to original settings, have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, have deleted all content from itunes media files but it just keeps happening any suggestions?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • ITunes deleting my songs

I have the newest version of iTunes (8.0.2) and I was listening to my iPod and i realized one of the songs, that I had gotten from iTunes was missing. I went into my library, and purchased list and it's gone. How can I get it back?

This has happened to me aswell, which is really annoying. try looking in the actual iTunes folder on your computer. if you can remember the artist's that have gone hopefully you will find them there. if they have completley gone (as mine have appeared too) then i dont know, which really does suck.
