ITunes deleting playlists on iPod

Hey guys,
I have this very annoying problem. My iTunes keeps deleting the playlists that I've created on my iPod whenever I connect it to my Mac. I'm not sure what's happening to iTunes to allow it to delete my playlists or songs that I've added to a playlist via my iPod. Any suggestions?

  • Cannot delete playlists on iPod

Howdy. I have a list of 10 or so playlists within iTunes. When I sync with my iPod, it copies the 10 playlists that I have, PLUS about 8 or 9 other OLD playlists that I no longer have in iTunes. So, after a sync, I have 10 playlists on iTunes and 18 playlists on the iPod.
I have done a restore on the iPod, and on my first sync, once again, the old (previously deleted) playlists returned to the iPod.
The only way I have ever been able to remove these playlists from the iPod is to manually manage the iPod and then remove them. But, as soon as I set it to automatically sync, they return.
Since the iPod has been restored, and it still didn't fix it, I'm guessing there is a configuration file somewhere on my Mac that I don't know about which is being repeatedly written to the iPod.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I would recommend recreating your iTunes Library. Be sure to back up the playlists that you DO want to keep, however.

  • Itunes deleting music on ipod because the original file culd not be found

The music on my ipod is being deleted when i start syncing my music from iTunes to my ipod. The thing is all the music on my ipod is still on Itunes. This started happening recently, it was all fine before.Since the original file cant be found on Itunes how do you stop it from deleting off your ipod?
Also could it be a problem since my music is stored on a separate hard drive, maybe thats why the original file cant be found, even though its still connected to the computer.
If it cant be fixed then is there an easy way to find the original files so the i wont have to find the "lost" files then delete them and sync them over again.
Could it be deleting the files off my ipod because half the songs on Itunes "could not find the original file" even though the songs are on my ipod already?

I use manual sync for that very reason.
And also for that very reason, I maintain my iTunes folder on my laptop as a backup for my iPod; I only delete "songs" when I want to remove them from my iPod, and I use auto sync because I can. If I ever have to restore (and I did once, when I had to have my iPod replaced), I know I can do a complete job of it.
(Should my iPod files exceed the capacity of my laptop hard disk, I'll probably switch to using a folder on an external drive for this purpose.)

  • ITunes deletes playlist

Twice now, I have plugged in my iphone 5, opens iTunes and my entire CD library imported is missing and my playlists are deleted.  I can easily recopy the music back in, but making new playlists is a pain.  Why does this keep happening?  I'm not really sure if its an iphone problem or an iTunes problem.
I'd like to add new songs to my iPhone and take away others, but until I can make a new playlist, I don't want to take the old one off my phone.  But twice now, I've started creating a new playlist, but before I get it finished, itunes deletes it.
Any suggestions to stop this from happening?

  • Cannot delete playlists from iPod Video

When I connect mu iPod Video to my PC or laptop using Windows XP, my iTunes opens, my iPod is recognized yet I can't see any playlists anywhere in my iPod when connected to the computers. When I disconnect, I have 6 different playlists that I've created over time. I want to delete these as needed. They seem to be created from my "On The Go" playlist when I create one. How can I delete? I've read and followed instructions on the Help site. The biggest problem is that there are no playlists shown when I select iPod from the source list once connected. I can't try to delete if I can't see it.

To clear the entire On-the-Go playlist, on your IPOD go to Music>Playlist>On-the-Go>Clear Playlist
To remove an individual song in a On-the-Go playlist, select the song in the playlist, press and hold the center button until the song flashes.
    Hope that helps you!

  • ITunes deletes everything from iPod Touch when I try to sync.

This has happened to me five times now, and I am incredibly frustrated. When I start to sync my iPod Touch with iTunes, instead of actually syncing it deletes everything from my iPod (music, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, etc.; apps and other data aren't deleted). I have over 30gb of audio on my iPod, so it takes longer than 12 hours to get everything synced back up again. This first happened to me right after I upgraded to iOS 6, so I thought it was just a bug, but it has happened four times since, and three times in the last four days. I did a factory restore of my iPod last night and then synced it all night, and then iTunes just erased everything off again when I was syncing it again this evening.
Moreover, when I attempt to sync again to get my music back, iTunes only transfers some of my library. And each time I cancel the sync and restart it, the number of songs transferred over decreases. Sometimes soft resetting the iPod fixes this problem and allows the entire library to sync, but last time that wouldn't do the trick, which is why I tried the factory reset. It's still happening though, as I'm trying to sync right now and it's only showing 1500 of my 8000 tracks.
I have an iPod Touch 4G running iOS 6 and am running iTunes on Windows 7 32-bit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem with my iPhone 4S running iOS 6 (Win7 64bit). When the first beta of iOS came out, I used the restore trick to load it on my phone without a developer license. I knew what I was getting into. This problem happened about 4-5 times through the various beta releases. When iOS was released to the public, it would not let me upgrade to it, so I had to DFU my phone to get it on the final release and restore a backup. Fine, but now I was on the official release. The problem has occurred twice now since then.
I sync my phone daily as I have a lot of playlists that use the "Last Played Date" attribute. I will sync my phone and the next time I go to play a song, all my music is gone. It is very intermittent. To fix, I have to uncheck all my playlists in iTunes, sync. Then recheck my playlists and have it readd. Like OP, I have 35-40GB of music, so it takes a long time to have to re-add everything.
I originally attributed this to a bug in the beta so I dealt with it. Now that I'm getting the error on the final release, its a bit more annoying. My wife has a 4S as well (Vista 32bit) and she has not had this issue.

  • Can't drag and drop song from iTunes to playlist on iPod Nano.

I downloaded iTunes to my new laptop.  Authorized the laptop.  Purchased a new song, but Itunes won't allow me to drag and drop the song to one of my established playlists on my iPod Nano.  I keep getting the red circle with a line running through it.  Did I miss a step along the way?
This is getting really frustrating!  Thanks to anyone who can help me!

  • Deleting playlist from iPod?

    Hello,
I have deleted a myriad of playlists from my iPod mini/iTunes library so as to create more space for other songs I want to listen to. Unfortunately, my iPod still read full/maxed out. How does one update the iPod so that the deleted songs are gone and space is created for new songs?
    Thanks,
    Jordan

    Hi Jordan,
It sounds like a case where iTunes it not properly recognizing how much space is on your iPod.
With that kind of issue, I would suggest that you try restoring your iPod. See this article for details:

  • ITunes deletes music from IPOD?

I imported a cd to iTunes. I then put it on my ipod. I then unplugged my ipod. Then deleted the music from iTunes.
The next time I plugged my ipod in and accessed iTunes it deleted the songs from my ipod without me asking it.
I did not want the songs deleted. Why did this happen? Do the songs have to stay in my iTunes library in order to stay on my ipod?
I am stumped why this happened. My ipod is a Ipod shuffle 2nd generation
Hope this made sense to anyone who knows how to help.
    Thanks

This would also be the case for any iPod set to autosync, & not "manually manage" in the iPod preferences.

  • ITunes radio playlist w/iPod Touch?

Looking at buying a refurbed iPod Touch and have some questions.
I currently use my MacBook Pro to stream Internet radio via iTunes and AirPlay. I want to use the iPTouch as AirPlay master instead of the MBP.
When I sync the iPTouch to the MBP, will my radio station playlist sync and work or will I need a separate app?
    Thx in advance.

iTunes radio streaming isn't part of iOS.  Therefore, you'll need a third-party app for this.  I would say that there's a lot of them in the apps store that are better than what you got in iTunes in the way that you can easily customize any radio station you want.

  • Itunes deleted playlist

I am running itunes latest version and haven't updated in a long time. My playlist just disappeared when I went to sync my ipod. How can I restore this playlist? Is this going to keep happening? Why hasn't Apple fixed this?

OK, I found a good working solution to my problem: PodWorks!
It's $8, and supports the iPhone!!!!!
I restored my entire content from my iPhone back to iTunes after I had wiped my computer - works like a charm!
It not only restores your music, but also the playlists if you'd like.
