There was a short version expressly for people who weren't bothered to read a myriad of text.
Meh, not that it matters anymore. I ended up redownloading 70-odd albums, so I have the bulk of my music back. And I still have no idea what iTunes did with my files, but I'll make sure it never does it again.

Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications. One person had re-installed their operating system. It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework files which many applications utilize. Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem. Do this manually, not with Software Update.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. I would recommend rebuilding the iPhoto library per this article:

To rebuild the iPhoto library:
Quit iPhoto if it is open.
Hold down the Command and Option keys on the keyboard.
Open iPhoto.
Keep the keys held down until you are prompted to rebuild the library.
A dialog will appear with rebuild options. Select the options you want to use.
Click Rebuild to begin the rebuild process. This may take a few minutes to complete.

Mountian Lion really slow and all the programs (itunes, skype, FaceTime) take an age to open or they don't open at all

Just installed Mountain Lion on my iMac runned smootly for the first 3 days and now everything is blocked, the only programs that works are mail safari and apple store, all the rest uses 3-4 min to open like skype and itunes or they don't open at all.

Please Help New version of Itunes 6.4 don't open.

Hi , today I decided to download quicktime with the new version of apple itunes on apple.com and since I downloaded that and upgraded my itunes is not opening anymore on my desktop.
There are absolutely no error messages it just don't open the program does not load.
I have tried reinstalling , deleting quicktime and redownloading another version of itunes and it still don't open. I never had troubles like that.
I am on Windows XP.
Any ideas ?

just checking something...does Quicktime open? Double check to make sure it is there, because iTunes cannot open without Quicktime. If not, DL a standalone version of Quicktime:

Also, what antivirus and spyware programs do you run on your Box? Some of them interfere with iTunes and Quicktime and cause it not to download properly. Post back and we will get it up and going.

I am running version 10.7.0.21 - since upgrade itunes will not open. I have visited the support site and done many things to get this working - taken hours of my time I do not have, including setting up a new user and same result.
My PC is running Windows 7. I need my itunes as I have 4 ipods and 3 iphones - I need to back up a phone as I have just upgraded,
