ITunes Export Description Field
The standard playlist export exlcudes the 'Description' field.
Is there a way to include the 'Descritpion' field when exporting a Podcast playlist from iTunes?
write a small program
use FM "TR_NAMETAB_GET" to get the table definition and use gui_download to download it to excel.

Cleaning up the description field in the product export file?
Hello.
Here's the challenge: I have a large product list with large descriptions; with commas and other sorts of punctuation in it that will not allow me to simply download a product export file and re-upload it again without a lot of manual work to clean up all the "descriptions..." A lot of manual work.
Anyone know of a good way, or Excel Macro that can be used to clean up or remove all commas from the Description field in a product export file. Or maybe ignore this column, or something?
Many Thanks would be in order!
TadHi Nicole,
Thanks for the quick response!
Yeah, it is odd, because I've seen it work with some simple test sites with a few products, but not so fortunate on this one and it has many products.
When I export the product list, all the data is generated in a single column, and a few bad characters in the first row, I'll highlight that column in Excel and "convert column to rows using comma delimited." I've tried a number of ways with the same results... For every comma in the description it'll push the text into the next column and offset the applicable information. In the end I have rows that don't have correct info and field elements not aligning with the right data. I'll end up getting a multitude of errors like the one below:
Error ERROR: [No Name found]. Import process failed on record: [35] Please ensure 1) mandatory columns are present, 2) all products have Product Codes defined, which should be unique (if importing products)
Example of export down load - single column - one record with header
Example of column converted to rows - one record with header (partial copy to column S):
Thanks for your feedback,

The "i" button for Videos in Description field
Is there a way to get the "i" button in the description field (to show description in a separate pop up window) to show up for videos (the video icon under in Source area)?
They show up in the iTunes video store and for downloaded Podcasts (under the Podcast icon in Source area not Library), but do not for up for dowloaded Videos (or even for dowloaded podcasts when looking at them through library (main library in Source). The descriptions of some of the TV Shows I have bought through iTunes are very long sometimes and have almost found it easier to just find the show again on the iTunes store and click on the "i" there instead of trying to spread the description column at wide enough to be able to see enough to make sense of what it is saying. But that still should not have to be done, so I am wondering if I am missing a preference setting somewhere or if it can be done through terminal or editing the iTunes preference file. I have sent it off as a suggestion, but I wanted to see if there was a quick solution that I am just over looking.
thanksWell all I can say is that after the 10.6 update, I too lost my Get and Subscribe buttons once again. I downloaded and ran the install procedure and used the Repair option within it and that solved the issue. I only had to run it once though.
If you've done this twice without the problem being fixed, I don't know what else to suggest.
Sorry. -
Possible to edit description field for TV Shows and Movies?
When I buy a movie or TV show from the iTunes Store, a description appears in the aptly titled Description field. Is it possible to add descriptions for movies and TV shows that I add to iTunes through other sources? I don't see any place to add that information.
Thanks!Gave up

I have got two photos by mail from iPhoto. My friend has put descriptions in the description field. The I got the mail I saw the description below each photo. If I check the photos with Preview they have Exif and JFIF fields but no IPTC field.
Does you friend use any accented letters in the descriptions? That might cause it but I don't know for sure.
Has he run any repair operations on his library, i.e. repairing the database file? Another possible fixe that's easy to apply is the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache folder(s):
Home/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
and, if there is one, the
Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
The demo version of GraphicConverter can be used to view/check/edit the ITPC fields in an image file after exporting. -
CATS via ESS - how to add WBS description field
Hi folks,
I've configured a new time profile which we will be using to integrate with Project System. We can enter the WBS number via the portal but I would also like to show a field which will automatically default to the description associated with the wbs number.
There seem to be a few user exits available but I'm not sure which one to use.

Will this allow me to add the WBS description field as an additional input field via CAC2?

IPhoto not exporting description for Canon Powershot
iPhoto is not exporting descriptions for photos taken by my Canon Powershot SX110 IS.
I use the camera to take a picture, import the photo, add a description and use File->Export, choosing JPEG, check box for Title and Keywords, check box for Locations. Perform export and view photo in Preview, view exif using Tools->Inspector. All pertinent exif data is there except description, including keywords and location. Specifically looking at IPTC and TIFF data fields.
However, if I export Photos from my wife's camera (a Canon SLR model) or a friend's Canon EOS model, then the descriptions do get exported. Any ideas or solutions on how to export the description for the Canon Powershot?I can confirm that. I just imported it to iPhoto and no, I can't see the caption there either. But, and this is odd, there are several blank spaces there - for instance, in the shot below I just typed 'this is a test' where the cursor would let me.
So you can see there is some element of recognition that there is *something* there, which is weird. I tried copying and pasting that out but there are only spaces and no actual text that I can find. This is also repeated with Aperture.
There is some incompatibility between that camera and the Quicktime substructure on the Mac... I've simply never seen anything like this before. -
Strange formatting and symbols appearing in podcast description fields
Hey guys!
Hope you're enjoying your weekend so far. I'm having problems with the text formatting in the podcast description sections. For some reason strange characters are added in the podcast description fields that aren't there when I initially enter them in. Examples "nbsp;" "mdash", "ersquo;s". I feel like its related to the font or when I use punctuation. Can anybody here point me to the solution?
Check out what I mean here. This happens in both the main description and in the individual show descriptions:
http://www.itunes.com/podcast?id=327062493a8Aw
Thank you in advance guys! Really appreciate it
Fei-FeiThese are incomplete html codes for characters - you've left off the ampersand which must begin them.
is a non-breaking space
’ is the apostrophe or quote - '
&emdash; is a wide dash.
Firstly: you cannot use these named codes in XML, you have to use the numerical equivalents. If you are handwriting the code you can use ' for the apostrophe. But in general you should avoid using any of these codes: the iTunes Store usually does not render them but displays them. You should stick to plain text and paragraph returns. You've used a straightforward apostrophe elsewhere - 'She's been pIcked up by al the major labels' - and that's worked; so use that instead of the quote, use a straight dash - instead of the emdash, and replace the non-breaking space with an ordinary one. -
How do I export the data that is in the description field. I like that the description data is included when I share them into a mobileme gallery. I have tried all the export settings (including "current" in the "kind" category.
The instructor at my apple one to one lesson couldn't figure it out either. He tested it on one of the macs in the store and the description exported with the pre-existing photos.. but when we added our own photos with descriptions. the descriptions did not export.
The keywords will export, butI have an unmanageable amount of keywords, find faces very time consuming, and have therefore included many of the names of people in the descriptions. I lose all this info when exporting out to share with other family members in their iphoto albums.
ThanksWhere are the photos that won't take the description upon export from? When you added your photos to the the library at the Apple store did they have descriptions from earlier or did you try to enter them there and then export? How did you check them after export, via the Finder's Get Info pane?
Have you been able to export any photos from your library with the description included?
Try the following: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.
Launch iPHoto and try uploading to MMe or exporting again.

Dear All,
I'm trying to produce a list , using query , to produce the following list:
Table Name, T.Description, Field Name, F.Description, FieldType, Length
I use DD02L, DD02T and DD03L, DD03T.
Somehow - I dont get the same results as I see in the SE16, or SE11. Especially I mis some descriptions on filed level, and I do see them in the SE11.
Using a query, save effort of exporting the DD for evry table sepratlly.
This is strange.
Your help is greatly Appriciated.
Kind Regards,
Doron ZaccaiHelle Andreas, and all Others,

Xmp specs for "description" field
To whom it may concern (or to whoever may be able and willing to help;-):
In INDD I am able to enter xmp data into the description field as long as i want (which is also not cropped after saving), however the data is cropped to a certain number of cyphers/letters whenever in eported pdfs (no matter what export preset). I googled quite a while to turn up xmp specs regarding this, but could not turn up any. If anyone could tell my, why the cropping occurs or could turn up a workaround for it, i`d be grateful.
Kind regards and thanks ahead,
AurelAurel and Carl,
I'm a little late here, but I want to thank Aurel for posing the questions, and Carl for explaining so much; I particularly appreciate his explaining the metadata consequences of Acrobat's "Save" vs. "Save As", and warning that changes in metadata embedding for CS5 applications [still] do not apply to Acrobat.
On a side issue, Aurel wrote:
> Also this pdf has all metadata visible upon vista explorer right click
> "file properties", which i cannot reproduce for my current files, but
> thats yet another problem. grrr. thanks anyways.
On my Vista64 machines, Explorer loses the PDF tab I see in on my 32-bit machine. However, that tab come back when I run Vista64's 32-bit version of Explorer. I use a one-line batch file with the line "%windir%\SysWOW64\explorer.exe /separate, /root, c:" as discussed in Adobe's Reader forum.
Like Aurel, I'm no programmer. Still, I managed to make a custom XMP panel for IDCS4 for adding PRISM publication metadata to the journal articles I work on (using the generic models in the XMP SDK 4.1). The PRISM metadata is fairly esoteric, but I've also been trying to convince the editors I work with that we should be embedding basic metadata, including Keywords, in PDFs to be made available electronically. Thus I was more than a little surprised to read in one of Carl's post:
> One search engine for journal articles looks as PDF Doc Info
> metadata, most search engines avoid all forms of metadata.
That would seem to fly in the face of WWW folk wisdom (for example, at InDesign Secrets), so I'm must be missing something.
I see XMP SDK 5.1 has been released and I expect to upgrade my CS4 suite one of these days. However, it's tempting to wait until Acrobat's handling of XMP metadata catches up. As things stand now, I'll probably continue to send editors screen grabs to proof custom metadata. Otherwise I'd have to port my modest custom panel to XMP 1 for Acrobat, convince the editors to buy the full version, and then show them how to install the panel -- effort that I assume the next Acrobat will make redundant.
Thanks again,
David -
How to edit 'description' field
The description field in iTunes has data that I entered. I can see it, but I cannot find where I can edit that field at. It does not appear to be an editable field in the Get Info window. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I don't use a new iTunes but I thought there was some way you could add fields to edit to the Get Info window. If not, check the Dougscripts web site for scripts to do this.

Does itunes u descriptions no longer support line breaks?
Hi. I've got a faculty member that wants all of his course recordings available on itunes u. Previously, he would write a description for each session which I would post in the description field. Now, it appears that the description field no longer supports line breaks. Content generated prior to June is fine but all new content just runs on in one long paragraph. Anyone else seeing this problem?
The collection is in the iTunes U directory. I'll have to breadcrumb you there since I don't know how to direct link. So, go to the University of Washington, Social Science, T536 Taxation of Trans-Pacific Transactions. In the description, you will see it is one giant paragraph, no formatting. Before we were converted to the new template (apple template, not our own) in April, this was formatted properly. I've created new collections and they also suffer from this same issue so it isn't simply a matter of the conversion. Thanks you for your help!

ITunes: Comments - Description
I have a bunch of TV shows in iTunes (exported via eyeTV). Some of the descriptions for the shows are in the "description" tab (where I want them), and some are in the "comments" area (where I don't want them).
Is there a script (run via Automator) that can copy a file's comments and paste them into the description?
MatthewThis is how I would do it in itunes, you will need to flavour it for your needs - I don't use TV shows, but it can't be too different to what I've got here?
tell application "iTunes"
-- select some tunes (more than one is okay)
set sel to a reference to selection
repeat with this_track in sel
set this_comment to comment of this_track
if this_comment ≠ "" then
tell application "Finder"
activate
display dialog "Oh, oh, this has a comment, do you want me to move it to description?" buttons {"No", "yes"} default button 2
end tell
if the button returned of the result is "yes" then
set description of this_track to this_comment
set comment of this_track to ""
else
-- do nothing,it's how you want it
end if
else
-- nothing to do, it's already there
end if
end repeat
end tell -
Wordpress & iTunes Episode Description
Hello,
iTunes seems to take the wordpress blog entry as the content for it's episode description.
My blog entry does not come out looking very good as the iTunes episode description; simply because it contains text and links that are of no use in the iTunes description box.
How can I get the iTunes episode description box (when you click the little 'i') to show other, more suitable text - and how to get it to stop showing things like '‘' all over the place.
It would seem strange to have to simplify my important blog entry just so the iTunes description looks nice.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
ps. I'm using Wordpress 2.2, iTunes 7.2, and I've got my feed going through Feedburner.
iBook G4 12.1 Mac OS X (10.3.7)Thanks for responding.
Where would I make that change? Is 'Optional Excerpt' in iTunes, Wordpress or Feedburner, and how to get it to pick that field up instead of the main blog text?
Thanks again for responding.
Matt
