ITunes restoring itself?

Hey everyone!
I have a very odd problem.
Yesterday, I decided to transfer my music from my LaCie external hard drive to my hard disk so I could listen to my music when I am not near my external HD (train rides etc.) So, I copied my iTunes folder in my EHD to my HD's music folder. I had not yet changed the location of the music folder in iTunes' preferances, so as far as it knew, nothing had changed. Now, iTunes is one of my favorite apps, so it wasn't long until habit interfered and I opened iTunes. No problem, I thought, because the library hasn't been moved yet.
I was so wrong.
iTunes opened, only to reveal my library as it had been exactly 4 months ago. EXACTLY how it had been. I didn't panic, I quit iTunes and then waited for the copy process to complete. The copying was done, and I re-opened iTunes. Nothing had changed. So at this point, I went to my library and made sure that the library it was working from wasn't from 4 months ago. Sure enough, the library it was reading from was my current library.
I installed the new version of iTunes (7.0.2) thinking that might help. It didn't.
My question is: What happened to my iTunes? How do I get it to read my current library instead of showing up as an old library? I'd hate to have to transfer all my music from my iPod back, it would take forever, but that's the only option I can think of. Any help would be great!
Thanks in advance.

I found one solution:
I created a new library and went to File -> Add to Library and selected my "up-to-date" music folder, and all my music got added back to my iTunes. I lost my playlists, but I'll survive.
Anyone have any other solutions?

  • Itunes restored itself

Today I opened my itunes and it gave me a choice to either sign into my itunes account or scan for media and it wouldn't let me do anything else until I selected one off them. I selected scan for media and it went to my itunes library and was duplicating all of the songs so I stopped it and as I was going through it, I noticed that I was missing a lot of songs and it has songs on there now that have been deleted from my library. My playlists are also all gone. I went to my itunes libraries and the last one was last year, I don't know where the current itunes media went. Anyone know how to get them back? I'm stressin.

My Iphone 3gs wont charge, turn on, or restore itself in Itunes, but the apple logo still appears when I hold the sleep botton.  How can I make my Iphone work????  I know it is not dead because I can see the apple logo on, and every time I connect it to a USB port to charge, or a wall charger, the battery appears with a bit of red. Still, it wont turn on.  It's been like this for three days now and I haven't stopped charging it.  IT just WONT charge?  Any tips I can use to solve the issue?

    Hello estebie67,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the iPhone is experiencing issues upon startup, and may not be loading the firmware or operating system correctly. If you have not already done so, try resetting the iPhone while connected to power:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If the above does not resolve your issue, it will be best to restore the iPhone in recovery mode:

  • G5 automatically restored itself to factory settings!

Today my Mail app got locked up... I quit it, then quit all other apps and restarted. Now my G5 has restored itself to the original factory settings...!
All of my other applications are still installed, but none have a memory that they were ever used by my machine (Fetch which has also lost all of my shortcut settings), browsers (favorites are gone), Mail (completely empty), iTunes (completely emptied out 3,000 songs), address book (now empty), and software that I puirchased online and activated with an activation key now wants me to re-enter my activation key. Fontbook also dumped all my fonts and the stuff that was on my desktop is gone.
My files are all ok otherwise...
Is this a KEYCHAIN issue, or a hard drive problem? Please help!!!
    thanks
    Steve

Try the normal "repair from alternate drive" as well as Safe Boot, repairing permissions, running fsck to repair the startup drive. Even rerun the combo standalone update to 10.4.9 again - while booted from another boot drive.
Type "log in" in Apple Support search of knowledge base.

  • I was trying to update my Iphone 4s and it tried  to restore itself. Now it won't do anything except say restore.

I was trying to update my Iphone 4s and tried to restore itself. Now it will only say plug into itunes to restore.

    Hello Thebenjah13,
The Update was not completed and due to incomplete update your Device is  now in Recovery Mode and the only option left with you is to Restore  your iPhone using iTunes on your Computer which will take your iPhone to  Factory settings.

  • Iphone 4 restored itself

I need help ! My iPhone restored itself without warning, and all my contacts, pictures, movies and so on dissapeared! How can that happen? It was not even connected to my computer or iTunes.

Do a reboot by holding both the power and o e buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.  If that does not help, take it to an Apple store genius bar.

  • How do i stop my ipod restoring itself when it syncs?

I have the ipod touch without the camera and everytime i want to sync it to my itunes it has to restore itself then sync and even when its done all of that it sometimes doesnt sync so it takes about 3 or 4 goes before it syncs bearing in mind it takes about 45 minutes each time, how do i stop this from happening?

Place the iPod in Recovery Mode and connect to your computer and restore via iTunes.

  • IPod restores itself every time it is plugged in

One day I plugged my iPod classic on my friends MacBook Pro for a quick charge and it deleted everything! Without even asking the iPod restored itself. Now everytime I plugg it in, no matter what computer, it restores itself. And even after it does that, after I put my music in and unplugg it, it is empty again. Any ideas?

Try resetting the iPod using the two-button combo, then connect it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If that does not help, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode first, then connect it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
If that allows the iPod to connect without locking up the computer, run iTunes and use Restore to erase the iPod and initialize the iPod's software.

  • My phone went to update to the newest system and it went to restoring itself. It no longer works for anything but "backing itself up", and keeps sending me in circles with restoring it over and over. I have restored it 7 times and I'm tired of doing it.

I went to update my iphone 4s to the new system, and it just went to restore itself? It was just in the process of restoring itself so I had no option of leaving the page or anything. I was forced to restore it. Thats fine, but then it went back to the same restore page that i had no option but to do. ok..I restored it again. and again and 3 more times. It is just going in a circle of restoring for no reason or going anywhere. So now I dont have a phone because it went crazy? hmm Samsung?

    Hey Sound!
Have you tried Repairing Permissions? If not, go to your applications folder, then to utilities and the disk utility. Then select "Repair Permissions." After it's done restart and try connecting again.
    Hope this helps!

Thank you, this is exactly what I needed to do. I'm in business again! I had thought of doing this, but didn't think my music would automatically transfer into the new iTunes. It did transfer and I updated to the new version and I'm good to go. Thank you again, so very much
