ITunes v6 Installation Problems Solved

It seems like a lot of people are having problems installing the latest version of iTunes. After spending a lot of time reading all these messages I came across the answer. To save you a lot of time I'll post it here. Go to www.ewido.net and download the software, run it and it removes the rogue software from your computer that stops iTunes from working. With so many people having this problem I'm surprised Apple couldn't be bothered putting this information out themselves! Anyway, good luck!

I see you found ewido. run that scan twice a week from here on out.

  • Installation problems solved for XP SP2 systems.

I've been pulling my hair for days trying to install SC2, but had no luck.
The installation process DOES have a bug. Use the following tactic in addition to disabling any firewalls and virus programs:
Right-click on the installer file and select 'Compatibility' . Click 'Run this program in compatibility mode:'. Finally, simply select Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5) mode.
Problem solved for now. Hope this helps.

This is very interesting akian ty - I will definitely try this at the weekend. I can install and run on a laptop with XP SP2 - and it had previous versions installed on it. However on the desktop PC I have not been able to install.
My problems have been with opening ports and appserver not starting. I will post back here how I get on with your tip. Thanks and also for the other suggestions that people have tried to help me with.

  • Itunes - windows installer problems

I tried to update from ITunes 11 to 12 and got "Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed". So I removed ALL Apple software from my Windows 7 PC, did various recommended fixes from Microsoft, but still the same. Now I get exactly the same trying to reload ITunes 11! I have had this problem on previous updates, and deleting the various Apple software has always fixed it, but not this time. So very frustrated - anyone know how to fix this please??

    Hi Brendan
tried that but didn't help. This is what fixed the problem:
    - go into command prompt mode (AKA Dos mode)
    - type in      sfc /scannow
    - let it run.
This solves many Windows problems where files and settings have been lost or corrupted. In fact, Apple should add this to their articles on Windows problems with ITunes installation.
    Thanks

  • ITunes + QuickTime installation Problem

I've got an iPod Nano as a present but I'm unable to download iTunes to play it on because of a problem with Quicktime.
When I try to download iTunes + Quicktime the following error comes up:
    Could not open key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTimePlayer.Lib.QuickTimePlayerApp/CSLID Verify that you have sufficient access to that Key or contact your support personnel
I've tried uninstalling QuickTime complety but it doesn't work.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Cheers!

I had also had a problem with iTunes and discovered that Quicktime may be the culprit. iTunes appears to successfully install but, when I launch it, I get this message, “ iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”
I have tried the Solutions to Common Installation and Launch Errors and have not solved the problem.
O I tried to completely remove iTunes and QuickTime and reinstall (While during that I did not find a QuicktimeVR file to delete). That did not work.
O I tried to empty my Temp directory but, I could not delete all the files. Same problem occurred when I reinstalled iTunes.
O I tried to install QuickTime without iTunes and it would not install. I got a message from QuickTime for Windows saying, “A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed.”
O When I try to launch QuickTime from the program list, Windows cannot locate the QuickTimePlayer.exe.
O When I try to uninstall QuickTime, I get the following message, “The following file does not exist or is not a valid uninstallation log file.

  • MAC OS X Clientless VPN Plug-in Installation Problem Solved

I have nearly pulled my hair out trying to get clientless VPN connections to work for Mac users looking to connect into our RV220W.
The key is to connect to the router as root the first time in order to avoid VPN plug-in installation permissions issues.
Preconditions: Java must be installed. Installing Java 7 for Mac OS X is 64-bit. This means that 32-bit browsers like Chrome cannot be used and that only 64-bit browsers like Safari will work with the plug-in.
    Part 1 – Install the VPN Plug-in
    Enable the root user account.
Log into the Mac as root.
Connect to the RV220W VPN portal.
    Enter your credentials.
    Select VPN Tunnel menu item
Hit the SSL VPN Tunnel Client Installer / Launcher icon.
    When prompted, run the Installer.
    The VPN should connect.
Disconnect from the VPN and log out of the root System Administrator account.
    Part 2 – Use the VPN Plug-in
Log in as your normal user account.
Connect to the router’s VPN portal.
    Enter your credentials.
    Select VPN Tunnel menu item
Hit the SSL VPN Tunnel Client Installer / Launcher icon.
    When prompted, run the software.
    The VPN should connect.

I solved my problem by downloading and installing the "Final Cut Pro Universal (supports Intel)" .sit version of the plug-in, which is not the default. I will inform StageTools that the default .zip download doesn't seem to work.

  • ITunes Upgrade Installation Problem

A few days ago, I tried to upgrade my iTunes 8 to 9. The process stopped in the middle and quit. When I tried to open my iTunes, the icon on my 'Start' menu had changed to that paper-shaped icon with the picture of, like, a window or something. It's hard to explain. So, anyway, then I tried installing it all over again and I got it to download, but then when it's about to install, it says something about an unfinished installation that's already in progress. See, the problem is, I don't know where to find that previous installation. iTunes isn't even in my 'Add or Remove Hardware' list. I have no idea what to do. I really hope someone can help me.
here's a link to a picture of the icon shape I'm talking about: http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7834145758512912_655112912_2610074_7907195n.jpg

I'd try reregistering your Windows Installer, theo.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
If you have a 32-bit version of Vista
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter
If you have a 64-bit version of Vista
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter
Do the re-registrations go through okay? If so, can you launch/upgrade iTunes properly now?

  • ITunes 5 installation problems

I was trying to update iTunes 5, but it wouldn't let me update it. I kept getting error messages saying that iTunes was running and could not be updated, and I couldn't get the messages to go away except by restarting the computer.
To fix this I tried to remove iTunes 4 and just install iTunes 5 as if it were a completely new install... but that didn't go so well... I searched the hard drive for iTunes files and moved everything that wasn't my iTunes music to the Trash Bin and deleted it. It would not let me delete iTuneshelper because it said that the program was running, but everything else was gone and no other programs were open. When I tried to install iTunes 5, it said that it couldn't be installed because of the current installation running (or something like that).
Now I'm stuck without a working version of iTunes 4.9 or 5.0. Anyone know how I can fix this to either install 5.0 like it was a new program, or even 4.9 so I can play my music?

    Hey...I'm having the same problem.
First i used update to download iTunes 5...when it was finished I got a message that said I have to quit iTunes in order to update. iTunes was not running and this message would not go away...only by restarting!!!! Very annoying!!! Then I tried downloading from the apple website. I got a different message this time....now I'm being told that I can't run this version of iTunes X on this computer...please shut down iTunes to install. What a stupid error message that is!!!!
Ohh well...I'm sure Apple will fix this bug soon. Guess I'll just wiat till then.

  • ITunes 6 installation problem on Windows 2000

    Hi Gayle,
I read your note on Apple's discussion board ( Gayle B, "If you are experiencing installation issues...", 06:20pm Oct 12, 2005 CDT) and I followed your instructions to generate logs.
I'm trying to install latest iTunes 6 and it gets hung forever. When I kill it, it fails with error 1628. I'm logged as Administator on this win 2000 system and I have disabled anti-virus.
Following is test from "log.txt". I couldn't find the other log - QTPluginInstaller_XXXX.log.
    Thanks,

  • Cannot install iTunes - windows installer problem!

I have spent two days trying to fix the registry and use a clean utility. Nothing works! I see that this is a fairly common issue that has been around for several years, but none of the fixes (including the msi utility that MS has now taken down) works. Some suggested that I just uninstall the windows installer utility, but I'm can see how to do that. I've tried stopping the service, but it doesn't work.  I am looking at my new iPhone which is a lovely paperweight.

This did not work for me, but you might want to try.  I have both an iPhone and an iPad2.  I think that I am going to have to reformat my drive.

I just tried to install the latest update to iTunes, and I've encountered several problems.  One error message says "Apple Mobile Device failed to start".  Another says "MSVCR80.dll missing".  Anyone know how to resolve these problems?  I uninstalled iTunes, restarted the computer, downloaded the file, and then ran it.  It failed to install, and gave me these error messages.

  • My Leopard installation problems solved

    My Preparations
I had received an update for the 1.1 firmware update (OSx 10.4.10), but it would not install. It turned out, the disk was not a "GUID" partition. I backed up the disk after having problems with 2 files it said it could not find. Finally found these were some mirror files under /users/art/Library/Mirrors (the backup had stopped on the Mirrors directory). Had no idea what they were or where they came from, but copied them to another drive and then deleted them. After that, the backup worked. The internal drive was a Hitachi 100 GB, 7200 RPM that replace the original 80 GB drive. I had done a Carbon Copy clone, but guess it was not exactly a clone.
I repartitioned the drive as GUID HPFS+ and done a clean install of 10.4.8 and also done a migration from the backup, then done an update to 10.4.10 where the firmware update worked. So I had the fully updated internal 10.4.10 and a bootable USB 80 GB drive.
    The Leopard Install
I selected the install/archive option, and Leopard installed with no problems including migrating the applications from the previous install. I did not have the applications enhancement which I do not even know what is. I then let Leopard do an update where it updated the Quicktime and another program whose name slips my mind right now. It said it had to reboot and did where it installed the programs, but then when the reboot started, it come up with the rotating beach ball at the login screen and would just keep rebooting. Tried everything that was mentioned the discussion group but nothing worked. I ended up using the Disk Utility to erase with write zeros, then a clean install. Everything went fine, update went fine, and it was much faster than before by 4 or 5 times. Went and got my applications from the backup and updated those with updates for Leopard including Parallels, Vuescan, Skype, Firefox, Thunderbird, NeoOffice, and a few others. System is now working fine and is much faster the 10.4.10. Oh, I did have to update my DIR655 wireless router for the wireless also.
(Macbook was purchased here in Taiwan where it is made with Chinese Leopard US English installation)
The one word of advice I would give to anyone, make a bootable backup of your operating system. I am glad I did, it saved my bacon.
    Art

I can only say, "Well done."
Good sleuthing, excellent prep and not really a problem after all.
    Enjoy
