ITunes (Windows) won't connect to Airport Express

I've recently upgraded to version 10.2.1 and now when I try to play music on my Living Room speakers, I get an error saying, "An error occurred. The network connection failed." (My Mac computer has no problem) Apparently, issue is with 10.2.1 and Windows 7. I tried the "repair" function in Control Panel, but it didn't help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just saw your post - I posted the same thing a little after you did. Did you figure out the problem? I haven't gotten any answers yet to my post.

  • Itunes 7 won't connect to airport express

i installed itunes 7.02 and now my airport express won't connect. I've read many of the discussions and have done all of the ipv6 recommendations etc. but to no avail. Very frustrated! Apple screwed up big time.

Help! ever since i downloaded itunes 7 for windows
(big mistake, as we all know) it won't connect to the
air port express. it sees it, attempts to connect,
but times out every time. anyone have any ideas?
I have the same problem on one AE unit that is more distant from the base but not on another. It also fails now to connect to Olive Musica in my main listening room. With these problems, I wonder whether an update fix can be far off?

  • ITunes 11.1 won't connect to AirPort Express

    Hello,
I just updated iTunes to ver. 11.1.0.126 from the previous version of 11.0.5.  Prior to this, everything worked fine, no issues ever with connecting to my airport express from iTunes.  Now that I've updated to 11.1 I get the following message when selecting my AirPort express for streaming:
"An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay Device 'CasaWalck AirPort Express'. The network connection failed"
The AirPort express is a bit older... an 802.11g, running the latest version firmware 6.3 and it's still attatching to my AT&T Uverse wireless home network just fine.  Went into the router admin to verify all is well, and it is.
At the end of the day, it seems to be the iTunes update that caused all of this.  I should also add that with the iTunes update, I also installed iCoud (which I didn't have installed before) and the latest version of Quicktime.
    I'm running
    - Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 on an HP tower.
    - AT&T Uverse wireles modem w/WPA2-PSK (AES) encryption
    - Netgear WNA1100 USB WiFi modem
    - Apple AirPort Express 802.11g w/firmware 6.3
Any help is greatly appreciated.  I really want to get my streaming to work again!

Okay, I'm logging this for anyone who might be experiencing the same issue.  I kept poking around my system until I found the solution myself.
In researching this issue, I kept coming across folks who found an issue involving their Mac systems. Since I have a Windows 7 platform that didn't do anything for me.  Initially I started suspecting an IPv6 compatability issue between iTunes 11.1 and my old airport express.  Found nothing fruitful there (including this so you don't waste your time chasing that down).  The other common theme coming up with others was their firewall.  I came across on thread in particular where if they disabled thier firewall, they got iTunes to connect to their airport express/airplay device again.  However, they were stuck with a choice between this working and having firewall protection.  I personally just couldn't operate without a firewall. So... I kept poking around and literally stumbled on the solution.
    Windows 7:
Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Allow a Program or Feature Through Windows Firewall > Change Settings:
    - click to highlight iTunes from the list
    - click Remove
    - click Allow Another Program...
    - Select iTunes from the list and click Add
    - Click OK so save your settings.
    - Test your connection AirPlay/AirPort Express in iTunes. It should work
    - Restart your machine and test to make sure it still works after a reboot.  Mine did.
From what I can gather, the previous installation of iTunes logged some sort of profile or entry into the Windows firewall.  Once iTunes upated to 11.1, it seems whatever worked for the 11.0.5 install was no longer compatable.  By remiving and reinstalling this entry in the firewall, whatever was needed was refreshed and all is well with the world again.
For all the times this community has helped me out, I only hope I can return the favor.

  • Itunes will not stay connected to Airport Express with any Yosemite update.

  • Itunes starts/stops when connecting to Airport Express

When I try and play songs via my wireless laptop, the music will stop/start as if it is trying to connect to my airport express. But, if I play the music from my desktop that is connected directly to my wireless router, it will play just fine (no pauses).
    I have a Linksys 4-port Wireless G Router (model WRT54G).
Need some advice on how to get my laptop to play music without starting or stopping

It appears iTunes is indeed looking for speakers connected via airport express, but, as your router isn't an airport product, it doesn't succeed.
Try turning off the airtunes function in the iTunes preferences.

  • Windows Vista won't connect to Airport Express

    Hello,
I have an Airport Express and a PC running Vista which cannot connect. I was temporally able to connect when I switched the Express to transmit "b" only. But now nothing works. Checked the firmware, it's on 6.3
My Mac connects to the network fine, so I know it works and is connected to the internet. Don't know a thing about WIndows, so any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Windows XP Pro SP2 won't connect to Airport Express

Ok, here's the situation as detailed as I can make it.
    My pc:
Windows XP Professional w/ ALL updates installed (through windows update)
    A Linksys WMP54G wireless adapter (I think it's v1 or maybe v2...it's about 2 years old).
    My airport express:
Set up for OPEN (for troubleshooting, no wireless security)
    SSID: edwards
My powerbook g4 connects flawlessly to the airport, every time. I read a lot on these boards that WEP password issues get in the way. I went through all the iFelix page tutorials, to no avail!
My PC sees the network with 4 or 5 bars, but upon trying to connect it sits there with a "waiting for network" screen. This is frustrating because half a year ago, my pc never had any issues with any airport network of ours. It would connect without a fuss.
I'm baffled and none of the other threads (even the ones that seem to ask about this) have helped out.
I WILL say that one baffling behavior is that once, maybe every other blue moon (and by this I mean....INCREDIBLY rarely) it suddenly connects to the network. But if I restart, it is no longer connected. Or within a short amount of time it loses the connect.
I went to Staples and they suggested that I switch the PCI slot, in case it was screwed up. I did that, and it CONNECTED! For 2 minutes....and then never connected again...
My last resort is to assume that my adapter is fried somehow, and I just have to go out and buy a new one, but if anyone has any other guesses, it'd be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Since your Powerbook connects flawlessly to the Airport Express, I too would assume you have a marginally defective wireless interface in your PC. See if you are allowed to buy a replacement wireless card, with the option to replace it if that fails to solve your problem.

  • Macbook Air (Lion) won't connect to Airport Express (and won't remember network)

My new Macbook Air 13, with Lion, will not connect to my Airport Express.  It throws the following error:  "A connection timeout occured"
This Airport Express is setup as a bridge.  So it extends my wireless router.
The new Macbook air sees this setup as 2 seperate WIFI networks.  It will connect to one (the router), but will not connect to the other one (the airport).  It will then not remember the router, so each time it restarts or wakes from sleep, I have to manually reconnect to the correct one.
For reference.  I have 4 other wifi devices in this household.  A win 7 laptop, an IPad 2, an iphone, and a Macbook pro with Leopard.  All 4 of them are working as intended.  They see one wifi network, connect to it (and move between the two points as necessary), and they remember their connections.
    Any thoughts or advice?

Glad it's not just me. I have D-Link and TP-Link routers set up in the same or a similar way. My iPads, iPods and Windows laptops all show a single SSID and switch between them happily. My new 13" Air was showing two networks (2 SSIDs) and wireless was patchy at best. I changed one router to be N only and that improved things somewhat, but still loosing the network. In order to see which router was being used I altered the SSID of one. The "N-only" router is giving the best coverage with a strong signal - but then it just drops out and the wireless icon shows "Searching". Turning wifi off then back on fixes the connection.
When it comes to internet browsing my iPad 2 is significantly faster than the Air.
I'm also having trouble keeping or attaining connections to my Windows shares, drop-out, even when I still have internet connectivity.

  • Dual 2.3 G5 PPC won't connect to airport express...

This one is boggling my mind. I'm a pretty technically savvy guy but I have ran out of options and ideas. I had a very unstable "dlink router" based network consisting of my G5 Dual 2.3 PPC Tower, a Powerbook G4 1.33, New Dell Laptop (work pc) and 3 Roku "Netflix" streaming devices. While my old Dlink router-based network performed ok most of the time I got sick of my Powerbook, G5 Tower and work laptop dropping the wifi connection and me going through the process of reconnecting several times a day.
About a week ago one of my buddies gave me a Airport Express. I connected the unit to my cable modem and using the Airport Utility on my Powerbook setup a new network with the same name and "wpa" settings of my old network. Basically I just took my old Dlink router out of the mix and replaced it with the Airport Express.
Now everything works fine (Roku boxes included) except for my G5 tower. I've tried setting up new location(s), deleting syscfg prefs, deleting/rebuilding network devices, changing network names, different wpa/wep security settings -- but nothing works. The G5 tower sees my network's ssid and after a couple tries joins successfully but is stuck with a "self assigned IP" no matter what I do or however man times I reboot. Also the airport utility on the G5 tower will not detect my Airport Express eventhough I have no problem seeing and configuring it on my Powerbook or using the windows verison on my work Dell laptop. I even tried moving the Airport Express closer to the G5 and this doesn't work either.
Both my Powerbook and G5 tower are running Leopard and I had no problem getting on the internet with the my G5 using my Dlink router before. Please help!!!
    Joe

Fixed it myself by changing the security setting on the Airport Express from WPA2 to WPA/WPA2. Now the G5 tower can connect, get an IP, and see the Airport Express using the Airport Utility. The funniest part of this is that I believe I tried that already before posting my question :-/

  • Windows does not connect to Airport Express with WPA-Enterprise

    Hey,
we are using some AirPort-Express stations at our office to provide a wireless network to our staff.
The APs use WPA/WPA2-Enterprise (linked to a RADIUS-Server) to check the users authority.
On Macs and iOS devices the connection to AP works fine but if we try to connect a Windows client, Windows shows up the login-screen, checks the password (if you try a wrong password it shows the login-screen again) but then it says that no connection is possible. We also tried it on another laptop (both using Windows 7 Professional), but it still does not work.
    Can anybody help us?
    Thanks!

This issue is often caused by Windows firewall, and sometimes caused by wireless interfernece. Try disabling the firewall or other anti-virus software. You can also directly connect you AE to your computer via ethernet to access the configuration.
If all else fails, you have hard reset the AE device and reconfigure.

  • Iphone 5 won't connect to airport express?

I have recently bought an iPhone 5. Due to this not fiiting in my Bose sound dock i also purchased an Apple Aiport Express off ebay.
I have been trying to connect my iPhone 5 to my Airport so I can wirelessly play music off my iPhone through my sound dock. Unfortunately though when i go into my wireless settings on my iPhone it does find the airport but won't connect. It says the AirPort Express cannot be set up by this software? i also downloaded AirPort utility App but that doesn't even find the AirPort.
I don't understand this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Nic

Hi - you will have to supply more info on your network to get some answers - for instance, what kind of modem do you have? - will this Express be the only router? - what generation is the Express?
But if you want to see what you have, try this:
Disable the wireless on your laptop.
    Unplug the Express.
Plug an ethernet cable from the WAN port (circle of dots) of the Express to the the ethernet port of the laptop.
Plug in the Express and open the Aiport Utility on the laptop.
You should now see the Express in the left pane of the utility screen - click on the Express and it will tell you what you have - if it asks for a password, the default is "public" - if this doesn't work, it means that the Express was not reset to factory settings - to do this, unplug it and hold in the reset button with a paperclip - plug it in and wait for the light to blink and release the button - when the light begins to blink slowly, it should show as a base station in factory default mode - it will also tell what generation Express you have.
Post back with this infornation and I can try to help you get started - btw I just got a new iPhone and it works great

  • Itune on iMac cannot connect to Airport Express, but Itune on XP can

    Hello
    I've the following situation:
Itune cannot see the Airport Express unless my Iphone Remote controle is connected to Itune. And eventhough, Itune fails to connect to it.
Here is the environment of my network
    1) third party LAN/Wireless router (connected to the internet)
    2) iMac (10.4.11) connected via the LAN port to the router
    3) Airport Express (7.3.2) connected to the wireless network
    4) one Iphone connected to the wireless network
    5) one XP computer connected to the wireless network
    6) All devices are in the same subnet
What really puzzle me is that Itune on the XP laptop can broadcast music to the Airport Express without any issue. But Itune on the Mac does not see at all the Airport Express unless I connect my Iphone to Itune. When I do so, the Airport Express become listed in the status bar of Itune. But if I try to make Itune connect to it, it try for a while then it stop trying without any error message.
I really don't understand what is going on. Does any body can give my a bit more information how Itune and Airport Express communicate? Or have any idea where I should direct my troubleshooting?
Thanks in advance for any help

So did i screw something up last night when i connected using my PC?
That sounds likely. Maybe the security type or password?
And if so how do i re-set the link with my mac??
Try the options described on pp. 30-33 of http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/AirPort_Express_SetupGuide.pdf
Once you get things working again, suggest you save the settings in a profile. In future when you bring the PC home, create a different profile for experimentation. Switch back to the usual profile when you're done with the PC. Eventually, you should be able to develop one profile that works with both machines.

  • HP pavilion won't connect to airport express

Okay, so my iMac connects just fine to my airport express and to the internet (obviously) but I can't connect my room mates HP pavilion to the same airport, it recognizes that there is the network, and it goes through all the motions of connecting and then says connected, but in the corner it still says that its not connect and won't connect to the internet.
    Any ideas?

There is a known issue with PC WiFi chip sets & configuring. It will show connected but not go online.
Only know solution HP covered it after I spent 2 hours with them on the phone, My cost. They said there is a problem with some chipsets. The workaround is to delete all network setting. (ie office or other locations) then configure the Wireless FIRST. If it is not the first network to be configured it will show your connected but not log on. Once the Wifi is the first connection it will work fine. Even at other wifi locations.
Only cost us 2 hours, plus charges before the A&^$#^hole at HP bothered to ask if we had other network settings. He said it's the best solution, but won't say why it was not the first thing he went over. I think HP owns Phone company stock!

  • Boot Camp: Windows won't connect to AirPort router

I got the new AirPort router from Apple in March and since then it's been working perfectly with my Macs as well as on Windows using Boot Camp.
A few days ago, I switched my AirPort setting to be Wireless-N ONLY so I could see some speed improvement on my Mac. The next time I used Windows, it would not connect to the network, so I then went back to my AirPort settings and switched it back to 802.11 G and N compatible. But both my Windows computers still won't connect.
Please help me set up the correct options. Thanks.

I just saw your post - I posted the same thing a little after you did. Did you figure out the problem? I haven't gotten any answers yet to my post.

  • ITunes update no longer connects to AirPort Express

Sympton exists on both iMac and iBook even after permissions updated with Disk Utility. Anyone have any thoughts?

I am using Airport Express also but have not had any trouble with the iTunes 6.0.4 update. Is your AE firmware up-to-date? Try resetting the AE (look in Airport Help for instructions) You may want to post to the Airport Express discussions. Good luck.
