ITunes wiped all the audio on my iPod
Just bought a new computer - the old one was left behind in Europe. I had 8 gigs of very important language files on the iPod. Installed iTunes (against my better judgement) on my brand-new XP laptop. Plugged in the iPod and this peace-of-**** iTunes proceeded to wipe all the info from my iPod without asking me anything. Is there some way to retrieve these files?
2nd gen iPod Windows XP Pro
Not if they're already erased off of the iPod. That's strange, though. As long as you weren't going from Mac to PC, you should have received a message stating that your iPod is linked to another library, and would you like to link it to this library, erasing all files that are currently stored on it, etc etc.
If you went from Mac to PC, it would have had to be formatted for use on the PC, which would have erased everything off of the iPod.
But, like I said, if the files have already been erased off of the iPod, there really isn't any way to retrieve the data.
Best wishes,

ITunes deleted all the music on my ipod - help!
I purchased a fourth generation black and white screen 20GB ipod that had some music on it.
I've been listening to the music for about a week without bothering to connect up to my computer.
Today I installed the software that came with the ipod and updated to the newest versions of iTunes and Quicktime.
I connected my ipod when it told me to.
No music appeared in iTunes and all the music has been deleted from the ipod, the ipod menus for music are empty.
When I disconnect my ipod I now have no music to listen to.
Where did it go and how can I get it back?
Thank you.You might not bea ble to get it back. Invest $100 on itunes cards!

HELP! After installing iTunes 7, all the songs on my iPod disappeared!
I dont know if othe people are having this problem too but it really *****!
I downloaded iTunes 7 a while back because i had no choice, i wouldnt be able to buy songs/music videos from it if i didnt.
It installed a new iTunes
then a new iPod upgrade.
A day later, i pluged in the iPod.
It asked me if i wanted to upgrade it with gapless playback because i thought it would save space or something.
so i put yes, and let it do it over night since it took so long..
then the next thing i knew when i woke up, is that all the songs on my iPod were GONE!
I even plugged it back into the computer and iTunes said there were no songs on my iPod! or videos or anything!
I rechecked everything and it said the iPod was still 98% full (because i had like 4,300 songs on it) and only 2mb of free space...
I checked iTunes and it said that the things were taking up space were 10% "pics" and 89% "other files".... so i know itunes can see the files there..
I KNOW THEY'RE STILL THERE!
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME GET THEM BACK?!?!
I know it was the gapless playback thing... is there any way to undo it??
Please... someone help me... i cant just back up all my songs... because i reformatted my computer a while ago too.. so i have no backed up songs... and a lot are from other friends too!
iPod Video 40GB Windows XPIF all songs on the ipod are also on the PC
Just restore the ipod
If Not on the PC
You will have to TRY and rep[air the ipods database with yamipod. This way is not full proof, but its the only option you have since you have not backed up http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/docs/help/corruptedipod.php -
How do I turn off Sync without iTunes deleting all the songs on my iPod!
Well that's basically my question. I want to keep all the songs that are already there, but from this point on just add new ones manually. When I unchecked the Sync box it wiped out my iPod. Thanks in advance for any help.
Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)You need to turn off automatic sync before you delete all your tracks from iTunes. If you don't, then you need to prevent the iPod from synching when you connect:
While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Command and Option keys on a Mac. This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer. Then you can set iTunes to manual synchronization.
Of course, this won't help if your iPod has already had the tracks removed. But you'll know what to do next time.

Will all the songs on my ipod be wiped off if my itunes is now empty?
My lap top's hard drive crashed and i've lost all the data that was ever stored on it, including all my music and itunes. i've since reinstalled itunes but obviously have no music within it. if i reconnect my ipod which currently has all my old music on it, will it sync with the new itunes and cause all of the old music to be wiped from the ipod? any answers on this would be much appreciated!
JoConnect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
TuneJack Windows Only
iPod2PC Windows Only
iGadget Windows Only
iDump Windows Only
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -
Is there any way to put all the music FROM my iPod back onto my computer? My school tech person not only wiped out my iTunes, the wiped out my back-up hard drive.
Hello cgbuehling
You can, but only the purchases that were made from the iTunes Store. Other content that was imported from a CD or other sources will not transfer over.

My iPod Touch is running on ios 7. In the last two and a half all the apps of my iPod have been suddenly wiped out twice. I had to download all the apps all over again. Why has it happened?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Hello everybody,
I would like to copy all the songs from one Ipod into another. All the songs are into my Itunes account, I tried to drag and drop the songs from the old Ipod to the new one but it doesn't work. Is there a way to do it ?
I share one Itunes account with other people from my family and one person would like to keep the same songs on the new Ipod as the ones which were on the old one.
Thanks in advance for your answer.
YanHello Chris,
Thanks for your answer. I was hoping for an easier answer. Too bad there is no drag and drop solution, it would have been much easier.
Thanks for answering so fast.
Bye.

How do I unlink my iPod from my old laptop (Vista) and link it to my new laptop (Windows 7) with deleting all the songs?
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

I am trying to sync my itunes with my ipod, but when I get to step 3 of syncing, it stops. Also, I deleted all the songs on my ipod, and when I go to my music in my ipod the songs are all still there and in a grey color and I'm not able to select them. How do I completely clear my ipod music, and how can I solve the syncing problem?
Sync works the same way it always has, connect the device, select the content desired to sync and sync.
All the media should be in iTunes already, iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
If this is a new computer, move the content from the old computer to the new computer. -
If I try to sync my iPod with iTunes on my laptop, it won't let me - it says it is going to remove all the music on my ipod first!!! I just want it moved from my iPod to my (new to me) iPhone!
