Itunes won't open. says error report
everytime i click on itunes a window comes up saying
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
we are sorry for the inconvenience."
then at the buttom there are two links sayind SEND ERROR REPORT and DON'T SEND.
clicking either one won't do anything.
neither will uninstalling it and reinstalling it.
or restarting my computer.
i need help.
let's first check to see if this is associated with a problem with your QuickTime. (iTunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.)
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
(a) launch perfectly fine?
(b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
(c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

Ugh! Safari won't open - see error report here
Help...? When I open Safari I get an error saying:
"The application Safari quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Reopen to open the application again. Click report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
Clicking on "Report" I get the error message below... (see below).
I'm running OS X v 10.4.11 and in Software Update everything is up to date.
Safari was working fine, then one day about 3 weeks ago I just got this error message on opening Safari and it's not a happy bunny anymore - won't open at all.
I've reported it to Apple but got no reply.
I downloaded the current version of Safari on another of my Mac's, saved to a USB stick, and tried to install on this machine but it would not let me do so...
Here's what I get when I click on "Report":

Crashes in multiple User Accounts usually indicate either an incompatible or corrupted 3rd party item (the crash report doesn't show any), or problems with Safari's application files or OS X System file(s).
Confirming - no 3rd party Safari add-ons installed (would be located in your HD>Library>InputManagers folder, or HD>Library>Applications Support>SIMBL folder. If one or more exist, please let me know what they are. Also, if you are using Adobe Reader or Acrobat for PDF viewing, Version 8 is required.
If the above is not applicable, I suggest reinstalling Safari. Have a look at this thread - 2nd post for installation instructions. You'll need to download the 10.4.11 Combo Update for PPC machines (link is found in the referenced post).

ITunes won't open - unknown error
I upgraded to iTunes 5.0.1 and since then when I open iTunes it goes to the license agreement and when I click agree I get a message saying it can not be opened and an unknown error occurred. I have repaired permissions and it still won't open. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem. Thanks!
Richard & Walter, welcome to the Apple Discussions...
try this, open the iTunes folder in your Music folder and select the iTunes Library file... type command-D to duplicate the file... put the original on your desktop and edit the name of the copy to be the same as the one you moved to desktop... after edit double/click on the file...
come back and let's know how you get on .... TP -
Itunes won't open. continual error message
Itunes 8 won't open. I click to try to open it and I get "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." I've tried plugging in Ipod to see if it will help in opening itunes. it won't. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. I've tried taking itunes library out and opening...same error. Please help!
Try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ directory and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

ITunes will not open. After a few minutes it gives me error -600. Please help it used to work not sure what happened.
Thanks, KristinI have been having the same problem lately. I have not found a solution yet. I've tried repairing the disk, reparing permissions, using a different user, reinstalling itunes, trashing the .plist, but nothing has worked. After iTunes is launched it immediately becomes unresponsive and will not Force Quit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Itunes won't open -- no error either
ITunes isn't opening. When I click to start the application nothing happens. The Task Manager says that iTunes is running under processes, but the application does not open. If I try to end the process nothing happens. Before updating to the most recent version of iTunes, my music had stopped playing in iTunes. It looked as if the song should be playing, but no sound was coming out of the speakers; if these two things could be related. Any suggestions are welcome.
hi Greg!
let's first try to get your itunes running again.
are you running Norton Internet Security 2005? if so, first try the "Lorraine" technique:
Lorraine M, "NIS/i-tunes problem rectified" #2, 12:51am Oct 17, 2005 CDT
if you're not running NIS 2005, try:

keep us posted.

ITunes won't open--no errors or anything....
Subject pretty much sums it up. I've used iTunes for a while now, and i'm running on Windows XP. I updated a few days ago to the current version, and ever since then, iTunes has not opened. I have tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling, restarting my computer, running maintenance, or even just plugging my iPod into my computer to see if iTunes will start that way. I get nothing. When I press Ctrl+Delete, I can see that iTunes is running, but the screen never comes up. What should I do?? This is totally frustrating.
doh... you got me hahaha. Other then using the microsoft clean up utility im stumped.
Not to sure why its saying that. I would def use the clean up utility and follow the steps in this document to use it http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976 after using the utility, I would remove itunes(get the latest versionf rom the site) and QT standalone(it doesnt actually REMOVE the software)
If that doesnt work.. im freaking stumped. That fix has worked for me countless times. Could be a registry issue at that point. mabye if you have a clean up utility for the registry try to clean up files for quicktime.
Worse comes to worse is restore/reinstall OS or do a backdate to when it worked -
ITunes won't open - wordless error message
When I try to open itunes, I get a wordless error message that only shows a red octagon behind the itunes application symbol. The only option is to click 'OK'. Any ideas what this is and how to deal with it? I haven't used itunes in a few weeks, so I have no idea when this problem occurred. I've searched online and in the forum, so apologies if I'm missing something obvious!
Try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ directory and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

ITunes won't open - 'Runtime Error'
Hi. Hopefully someone can help me with this problem as I really have no idea what to do.
I use my iTunes everyday and there has never been a problem until today, when all of a sudden, my iTunes refused to work.
On opening it, the iTunes window comes up, followed very quickly by an error window titled 'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library'. In the box it says 'Runtime error! This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information'.
And then it closes iTunes down again immediately.
On coming to the Apple support web site to try and 'contact the applications support team' I was directed here.
So I'm hoping someone can help me.
I assumed at first it was a virus, but ran my virus software and got rid if anything dodgy on my system, and it's still doing it.
I don't want to uninstall my itunes, then re-install as I'll lose a lot of the stuff on there. Given that I bought a bunch of new songs at the iTunes store yesterday, that I haven't yet backed up, I really don't want to have to uninstall.
Can anyone shed any light on the matter? I can't live without my iTunes. This is VERY important.
ThanksOK, I downloaded the new version (with downloads of over 70MB, you'd expect Apple to come up with 'Patches' instead).
Installing iTunes 7.3.1 allowed me to listen to my music once again.
My question is: Since the error comes from the updater, which AFAIK was not 'fixed' by this release. Does it mean it will show up again, when Apple decides to release another version?
<rant>
I'm more than happy to see a company releasing bug fixes frequently, but having to spend at least one hour everytime they do, while I research why did my music stopped playing is not good. Specially after reading what is included in the new version: iPhone goodies... while iPhone is not even available outside USA.

ITunes won't open. Error (-200)? 9/30/11
I now have Lion and am totally updated, but I keep getting this error message (-200). I've read other similar reports od people who tried every normal thing to no avail, but I haven't found an answer yet. Can someone help? Thanks
I just stumbled upon the answer to this for myself - I just reconfigured my computer:
1. Shut down, Remove Battery for 25 seconds, then replace.
2. Press start, Command, Option, R, and P at the same time.
3. Hold these keys down untill you hear the startup sound two times,
4. Release the start button.
5. When the computer finishes booting up, you can start iTunes normally, and audio will be restored.
I hope this helps anyone with the same problem. -

ITunes won't open! Error -42404
I was recently upgrading my computer with upgrades that my mac came up with for me and my computer shut down in the middle of it. When I turned it back on again the upgrade window was gone and when I tried to open my iTunes I got this error message: "The iTunes application could not be opened. A required iTunes component is not installed. (-42404)."
I've searched for this error on the support pages and have found nothing. Help?!I had the same error messages. Quick and easy steps:
1. Control panel/ remove All quick tunes and itunes.
(if itunes will not delete another step involved)
2. itunes did not delete, you must install window installer cleanup.
search down the file for itunes highlight and remove. Do the same for quick tunes if still present.
3. Start/search for files and folders: "itunes" delete them all, "Quicktime" delete them all.
4. Your choice, go to itunes and down load Quicktime & itunes together, or go to google and download seperately. (my choice to do seperately).
5. NOTE: ( don't know if this was necessary) but rebooted computer after each step.
Through much trial and effort and a bunch of research, it finally worked.
GOOD LUCK to all. Hope this works well for you all. -
ITunes won't open, unknown error (-200)
I'm on a G5 running OS 10.4.6. Unexpectedly my iTunes stopped opening(latest version 6.4). When trying to open it, it immediately quits and this message appears:
"The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-200)."
ALSO, the sound on my computer has stopped working, with the exception of the start-up chime. Both of these problems started to occur at the same time (and out of nowhere as I've done nothing different or unusual.)
I have run Diskwarrior (which fixed a bunch of other files and directories!) and have also run the MAC Disc Repair successfully. I have also deleted and reinstalled iTunes three times. However, I still get the same error message and no sound (except for start-up). All of my other programs work fine.
I'm frustrated and out of ideas! Help please!
Thank you,
Patty
MAC G5 Dual 2GHz Mac OS X (10.4.6)
MAC G5 Dual 2GHz Mac OS X (10.4.6)Error code -200 means:
noHardware - Required sound hardware not available [no hardware support for the specified synthesizer]
The hardware still works, as you wrote "the sound on my computer has stopped working, with the exception of the start-up chime. "
I'm no expert on these kind of problems, but it looks to me, a driver is missing or corrupted.
You could try to fix it by (re-)running the latest OS X 10.4.6 combo-update.
This will sometimes fix problems.
If that fails, you might have to do an Archive and Install. More hints about that feature here
Before doing all that, it could be wise to post a question in the Using Mac OS X Tiger forum.
There are some very knowledgeable people answering questions there.
Maybe someone has a simple solution.
Hope this helps.
