Iweb 08 DISASTER

Have just updated to IWeb 08 with disastrous consequences.
1. The iweb site in my work account has loads of missing images and layout changes.
2. The iweb domain file in my personal account has been reduced in size form 69mb to 1.1mb with obvious consequences.
(I use seperate accounts because previously in Iweb you had to).
Has anyone else had the same problem?

hi rambler,
yes. my problem is identical.
iPurchased. iUpgraded. iCried.
i performed a quick tour through this discussion group and found that i was not the only one. after a long damage assessment, i decided to get on with fixing it manually.
unless you can find a solution (and as of this writing, i did not) i recommend:
log into your idisk and locate the folder containing your original site.
copy the entire folder from idisk to your hard drive.
using finder, take a peek at each of the original site folders. you will notice that the folder names are the same as the page names of your iweb site.
inside each folder are the images from your original site.
open your domain in iweb o8. for every placecard that no longer contains your original image (it now looks like a grey envelope with a “?” in the middle of it), open the corresponding folder in your ‘complete site’ (copied from idisk) in finder and scroll through the image files to find the missing image then drag-drop it to it back on the correct page.
I have spent the last two weeks creating a company site from scratch. have silently swallowed my apple iPride and began the task of rebuilding the missing links.
i have a sneaking suspicion that all of the relationships iweb 08 has with image files require that the source image file come from iphoto. in my case, i had the image files stored in a separate folder outside of iphoto. thus, if the images are not in iphoto, iweb 08 will not find them again.
hint: as for your missing formatting: if you have lost fonts, make sure the font is installed in the font folder on your computer.
hint: open iweb 08. when it asks for your domain, select it (user-application support-iweb) and open it. if you attempt to double click your domain with iweb 08 closed (thereby requesting iweb 08 to open it) you may find the pages blank. at least that is what i found.
hint: from now on, keep all of your image files inside iPhoto (just in case).
keep browsing discussions to find out if anyone has found a fix for this, but i do suspect that iLife now requires that relationships exist between iLife programs. i don’t have the evidence to support this but the symptoms sure appear to be that way.
iHope you tell your friends to “back it up” before “blowing it up” and that no matter what, i would rather be i struggling through this little hiccup that ever using a windows machine again.
back then, i was iTired and iRate. now i can do more that i ever iMagined.
good luck and best wishes, bryan

  • Iweb Disaster

I was "experimenting" with my keychain and now I can't publish to my iWeb site to .Mac.
Everything worked perfectly before I "adjusted" the keychain.
Now when I try to publish my iWeb site to .Mac, it opens System preferences ".Mac," and asks my for my .Mac password. I enter the password and nothing happens. I click publish, and it opens System Preferences .Mac and asks for my .Mac password... over and over.
Where does iWeb save your web pages on the computer. I know it saves them to .Mac, but the iWeb pages have to saved on the computer too, right?
    Any help would be appreciated.

I created a new keychain and that resolved the issue.
I also learned: (1) Don't mess with Keychain access and (2) Your iWeb site is saved on computer as "Domain" in the iWeb folder!

  • In trying to transfer iWeb pages (not uploaded) to another computer I went into the library and transferred the domain onto the desktop. Disaster! On opening iWeb all previous (uploaded) sites have disappeared. Help!

In trying to transfer iWeb pages (not uploaded) to another computer I went into the Library and transferred the domain onto the desktop. Disaster! On opening iWeb all previous (uploaded) sites have disappeared. On opening the domain all I can recover is the many component parts, and when unzipped the code. Help! Mike

Code in a domain file - really?  That is not possible because the domain.sites file does not contain any html or css code at all - the domain file is your iWeb data file and you won't see any code until you publish your website.
If you can see html code, then you have the wrong file and it is a published version of your site which iWeb can do nothing with - iWeb has no import facility so cannot open any html files.
Go back and ensure that you have the correct domain.sites files that can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and if you have Mavericks then you need to go to Go and press the alt key to reveal your hidden User Library, so that you can then get to Application Support and then iWeb and then your domain.sites file.
You will also need to go and download either DomainCracker or iWebSwitch which allows you to open individual domain files under Mavericks, because from Lion onwards, you cannot open individual domain files.
Also, it says that you are still using iWeb 08?  If this is so, you'll either need to upgrade to iWeb 09 by going to Amazon and purchasing the iLife 09 or 11 boxed set, both of which contain iWeb 09 or you need to switch to newer software that is actively being supported and developed such as EverWeb (http://www.everwebapp.com).

  • IWeb 09 + Snow Leopard = Character Spacing / Tracking Disaster!

I have a big problem. Upgraded to Snow Leopard, all went fine... but now much of the text in my iWeb 09 pages are all bunched on top of each other, where they looked fine before. This is primarily a problem with title text, and happens with all new text as well. It seems like at a standard size font, the letters are just a little too close together. But as you increase the size of the font... the letters do not get any more space between them, so the larger titles look like just a pile of letters on top of each other, and are completely and 100% unreadable.
I have tried using the "Character Spacing" slider in Inspector and it literally does nothing, I have tried using the "Loosen Tracking" option in the Format\Font menu and it similarly does nothing at all. I have tried switching fonts and have tried starting new text boxes, and nothing has any effect whatsoever.
I cannot update any of my sites until this gets resolved. Can anybody help?

Try quitting iWeb. deleting the preference file - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist, restarting your Mac, running Disk Utility to repair permissions and then relaunching the application.

  • Changes from iWeb 08 to iWeb 09 - is there a complete list anywhere?

    Hi all -
I just upgraded from '08 to '09. Before I start mucking around too much, I'm wondering if there is a complete list of the changes out there somewhere.
    Thanks,
    roxpat

What a flippin' disaster. You were correct, Roddy. I updated one page on my website - the front page (very poor decision) - and iWeb 09 completely screwed it up. The WSYIG concept is totally gone from iWeb 09. Everything looked fine in iWeb itself, but when I uploaded it to the server the paragraphs were spaced differently, text boxes were larger than they should be and were placed differently than what they showed up as in iWeb itself. I spent a good hour just trying to make it look decent again.
This weekend I will revert back to iWeb 08 until I hear that 09 is working properly. Boooooooo Mac - what were you thinking???

  • Created site in iweb 08 and posted to netfirms... the pages are all loaded up but there is no nav bar, it comes up on each page as a small black dot. How do I get the nav bar to load up and show?

I created site in iweb 08 and posted to netfirms... the pages are all loaded up but there is no nav bar, where the nav bar should be is only a small black dot on each page. How do I get the nav bar to load up and show? It was a disaster loading up my site as it changed the case of the letters and at first no pages were seen, so I had to go through and change the letters that were supposed to be cap, back to cap in every file. I don't know if this has something to do with it or not. The tech support doesn't have an answer. Please let me know if you have any ideas and solutions. Thanks bunches!

  • My iWeb problem stumped the Genius Bar

Hello all , first post , apologies in advance for its length .
I got a problem thats really frustrating me . The Genius man in the apple shop couldn't help , he'd never seen this problem before so he suggested I try here . Here's the thing .
I've made a site for my photography with my own domain name www.davestrachan.com . Galleries up , blogging away to myself , everything was working fine for months . Until .... one day I added some more blog entries , saved but didn't upload them and switched off the mac . I opened up iWeb the next day and half the pages are either blank or show only the grey background , not just the new pages but older ones also . The welcome page & about me , all the galleries and several of the blog posts are gone .
I'm pretty new to this so I only know the basics , thats why I use iWeb because it's easy . I've tried uploading to a folder on the desktop and get an unknown Publish error . I tried deleting the iWeb preference file & even transferring the Domain.sites2 to another mac to see if it works , sadly no joy there .
Don't shout at me but I only recently learned how to back up iWeb .... yup you guessed it ... after the disaster so that options out . It's also happened a couple of times before to one or two pages in the blog but Iv'e just shrugged and redone them . This time it's obviously more serious .
I guess I'm probably going to have to bite the bullet and redo it all again , learn from my mistakes & back up lots in future , but does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it ?
    Thanks .
    Dave .

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Paragraph 2.3 of iWeb FAQ site has some tips on how to use some of the files from the published site in rebuilding: http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html. There have been a couple of posts of similar experiences, closing iWeb and when reopened the pages were empty or partially empty. I don't remember any fix-all for that. The problem sounds a lot like a problem with iPhoto, the library is good but when after shutting down and rebooting the next day it's appears empty. Fortunately there's a way to protect against that. But not with iWeb.

  • Comments and a question about iWeb

    Hi all
I have recently created and posted my university web site using iWeb on the univerity server (using CaptainFTP). If you are interested you can look at it: http://host.uniroma3.it/linguisti/lcs-ingles/
I am quite happy with the end result. However, I am a bit disappointed at how slow the pages download on the university computers (no macs, unfortunately, and all using windows with IE). So I've put a banner for Firefox on my first page as it appears to work much better with iWeb-generated pages on Windows machines (at least the ones at the university).
I've also inserted comments on my newsblog using iComment (very easy to use!).
However, there is one thing I would like to be able to do, but not sure how possible it is. My students need to sign up for exams at the end of each semester (unfortunately, the university system is a total disaster!). Is there any way I could use some type of form for this? I realize that this is not possible in iWeb itself, but I thought there might be some way to integrate this capability. It would be great if this information arrived to me or the web page in an organized manner (so that I could easily pop it into an excel worksheet)... keep in mind that we have four different exams so I would also have to separate these entries (according to the exam that needs to be taken). I think that I'm asking too much.... especially since I have no experience with HTML programming (but I would be willing to learn some if any of you think it's possible to do this). If the students could sign up for their exams and then this information could be organized it would save me hours of headache (and it would also give me a clear idea as to how many people have signed up for an exam).
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
As always thank you all for your help.

I just did a quick search and all the posts I see are referring using a different editing program and a different host.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1675548&#1675548
You've already got the different host thing down since you're not using .Mac, but there's many different ways to do forms. I just did a Google search and found this presentation..
    http://www.rochester.edu/its/web/briefings/webforms/sld001.htm
which gives some info into how it's done... the steps of which differ depending on the server you're using, the technologies available, and your level of skill. Looking at this, I'm not surprised Apple didn't implement it because it'd just be one more feature that only works on .Mac (since that's the only server where Apple KNOWS how it's set up).

  • IWeb 08 - Issues - I can't Believe It..

Installed iWeb from the new iLife08 pack purchased at the Apple Store in Birmingham UK on to my G5 Tower (Pre Intel)
Once directed to the original domain document I noticed that all the pages in the margin was red. So I saves it. I then tried to publish it and the program bombed out.
Restarted the computer and tried again. same thing happened.
Checked for updates and updated it. Then tried again. The had the following issues
    1) Lost all images from my previous webpages as well as galleries from photopages
    2) Adjustimg images that have been dragged over from iPhoto, change with the adjustment and then revert to original state
    3) Some images dragged over from iPhoto don't come with their original colours for some reason
I am still trying to repair the exensive damage this upgrade has done. 3hrs on and I am less than 10% through the rebuild.
I am gobsmacked that Apple has released a product like this which is clearly not right. What a sad day it is.

There is another thread that answers some of the Photo problems on this forum: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1078666&start=0&tstart=0I have just wasted 13 hours of my life on iWeb08 for nothing.
It converts pictures from a pro setting of AdobeRGB to sRGB and adjusts them adding contract and saturation.
Having rebuilt my website a number of times I have had to give up on iWeb. If it is going to reprofile images it should do so with out changing the contrast or the saturation.
Having spent ages adusting the colours on over 100 images to be correct on a corrected screen in photoshop. I am not about to re-adjust them to a poor amateur profile.
I purchased iLife08 for its google search widget function only and some minor improvements. I didn't expect it to ruin everything. Gutted. I wanted to revamp my existing website using the new iWeb and now can't.
I have just taken the step of ordering Freeway 4pro instead to build a webpage instead.
The iWeb on iLife is a disaster IMHO. Please Apple sort this out quickly before I have to read a whole new instruction manual.
Sorry to say, but for me iLife08 has been a total waste of money as thing stand.
If anyone else has any ideas please let me know.

  • Appearance of iWeb 2.0.2 pages in Safari and other browsers

I guess this question has been posted several times before because I can't find the relevant search terms to limit the number of answers to a reasonable count. Thus, sorry for the repetition (if so).
Is there a way to amend the appearance problems of iWeb 2.0.2 pages in Safari and other browsers?
    Problems are:
Safari: color management (?) - take a look at this site: http://shivaduo.jan-groh.de - Text and frame were created with exactly the same web safe color (990033), but they differ a lot.
Firefox 2..., IE 6, Camino 1.5, Shiira: no shadows, (some) no reflections, (all) horizontally broken lines in reflections of frames, (Windows) fonts (Trebuchet MS) get changed (worked perfectly before with iWeb 1... on exactly the same computer).
Is there any remedy to this aestheical disaster (which was the main reason for me to switch to iLife '08)?
    Thanks in advance,

  • IWeb Update - Publishing to MobileMe Problem

After running the 3.0.2 update I tested the app and all was well - or so I thought!
I don't use MobileMe much and decided to test the claim that it "resolves some issues related to publishing sites to MobileMe". Well, of course, publishing to MobileMe wouldn't work.
I resolved this by quitting, deleting the plist - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist. - relaunching and resetting the preferences. I also logged out and back in to MobileMe for good measure.
I never had any problem with uploading to MobileMe before this update. I wasn't even going to bother installing it because I never use the blog or podcast. I only installed it because I saw that another user had problems with iWeb not launching properly after running the update and thought I would see if I could replicate it.
Maybe one day we will get an iWeb update that actually works as advertised and contains something useful?

After I went through the steps mentioned above the published site had a few items missing in the header.
I published to a local folder to test it and this was OK. Then I re uploaded to MobileMe and this version worked.
I only use MobileMe for test sites so this glitch is not a disaster to me.
It would be worth while creating a small test site to troubleshoot this issue rather than using your main site.
I don't use the blog or podcast so I have no idea if there are any problems in that area.

  • IWeb Comments Missing... Can I get them back???

I created a memorial website that allowed people to leave comments. I am not exactly sure what happened buy iWeb updated the site and erased all the comments. Is there a way to get the comments back? Are they stored on a server or a file that I can download? I am actually surprised that any comment left on the site was not emailed to my MobileMe account so that I could view it.
Is there anything that can be done. This is a disaster.
    Thanks for any help
    A

Problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums: Lost all blog entries, all comments or unable to publish, etc. And whether iWeb's blog works well or not is of little concern to Apple as it's only a tiny part of their software repertoire. If you switch to a dedicated blogging platform you're likely to have a better experience. For a success story using a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:
_To blog or not to blog_
As an alternative to setting up a basic hyperlink to your external blog, you can link to it from iWeb's navigation bar:
Create a blank internal page titled "Blog" (actually you can name the page whatever you want.) Then in that Blog page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "http://www.yourblogname.com"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
...Once published, clicking on "Blog" in the navbar will immediately redirect to your external Blog page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).

  • IWeb deleted folder on my HD with same name as website

The folder with all my projects in it was deleted when I published a website from iWeb with the same name. The files did not go into the trash - they simply vanished. Is there any way to get these files back? Keep in mind I didn't publish to .mac - I publish "to a folder". PLEASE HELP!!

I think the problem is more like this. Take a folder
    named "AllMyImportantWork" in the Documents
directory. In iWeb, if you choose to publish to a
folder, the folder you choose to publish to is
"Documents" and the site you're creating is
"AllMyImportantWork", iWeb will stomp all over that
other directory regardless of if it contained iWeb
    stuff or other important documents.
That is a very good point! I hadn't conceptualized that particular scenario, but you're right--regardless of the nature of the files in the folder, all could be lost; what a potential for disaster!
I think iWeb should look inside a folder for an iWeb
structure before overwriting it to prevent this kind
    of accident.
I agree. Perhaps 2.0 will address this...
Backing up the Domain file wouldn't help
this, but backing up the entire computer would.
Right on all counts...I was actually thinking more along the lines of having previous versions of a site saved by way of backed up Domain files, but the OP's point was overwriting of unrelated files. Great clarification!

  • Iweb rss feed stopped working

About a week ago all of my RSS feeds made through the RSS iWeb Widget stopped working. Some research brought me here: SyntaxError: Unexpected identifier 'any' (anonymous function) www.icloud.com:1
Is Apple not supporting it anymore? That would be a disaster
Message was edited by: Idiot Media

Well yes, the fact that Apple has not supported iWeb for the last 3 years is old news!!  Apple has not sold or supported iWeb for at least 3 years and iWeb has not been updated for at least 6 years.
The longer you continue to use iWeb and technology moves forward, the more likely you are to get things that don't work as expected.
Perhaps it is now time to ditch iWeb in favour of alternative software that is actually supported?
There is a lot out there - RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, WebAcappella 4, Flux V and EverWeb.
With most of these you can try before you buy.

  • Iphoto no longer opens in the media browser in iweb, iphoto no longer opens in the media browser in iWeb

    Hello,
I am having several issues with Iphoto after upgrading to '11. I was able to use time machine to reload photos as the photos disappeared...basically it was a disaster. I am continuing to experience a lot of issues with Iphoto - it no longers opens in the media browser while I am working in Iweb. Videos are no longer uploaded in imovie from Iphoto. I have never had so many issues with Iphoto. Does anyone have any advice/help to offer. Thanks in advance for reading this and taking the time to respond.....

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
