I am install jre 1.4.2.10. I am getting an error ./install.sfx.2204: syntax error at line 1: `(' unexpected
I have no clue why this error is coming. If anybody has a solution, please share

I am install jre 1.4.2.10. I am getting an error
./install.sfx.2204: syntax error at line 1: `('
unexpectedThat generally suggests that a binary is being fed to /bin/sh. That will happen if the kernel doesn't recognize the binary as a valid executable.
Are you sure you have the correct architecture file (sparc vs x86) for your machine?

  • J2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586.exe  Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtim

    I am using Netscape 6.2.1, Windows 98
    I download Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.1_01
    * Download j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586.exe .
    Filesize = 8,015,928 bytes.
When I looked in the directory the file was listed as
    j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586
    7,829KB
Does the file downloaded size discrepency have significance?
Double clicking on the file activated the process:
    "After the InstallShield Wizard
    Setup Status
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_01 Setup is performing the requested operations."
After that function appered to finish with a 100% complete, I received the following error:
    "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\PROGRAM FILES\JAVA\J2RE1.4.1_01\LIB\UNPACK.EXE
    abnormal program termination
    OK"
Note, I may have installed Visual C++ in the past but have never used it. Does this error imply there are some missing links to Visual C++ that have confused and caused an error?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi, crlare,
    The official file size
    8,015,928 bytes
    = (8,015,928 / 1024) kilobytes, since 1 kbyte = 1024 bytes
    = 7828.0546875 kbytes
= 7829 kbytes after rounding up
Therefore your downloaded file seems to have the correct size. To make a better check,
    1. right click on your downloaded file;
    2. select Properties;
    3. check the size in bytes in brackets against the official size in bytes; the "bytes used" is the actual space allocated to store the data.
The Visual C++ runtime error is caused by a faulty installation of the Java bundle, which could have arisen due to interference by other applications that are open during the installation of the Java bundle. e.g. Interference by virus protection software running in the background. This error has also been known to occur in the installations of other programs.
To fix the problem, uninstall the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) you have installed, and reinstall it with all non-critical applications closed:
    1. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, select Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_01 (or something similar), click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall the JRE.
    3. Reboot your system.
    4. Close all non-critical applications, including background running programs such as antivirus programs and Microsoft Task Scheduler. This can be checked/done by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del, selecting each item except Explorer (and Systray), and clicking End Task for each.
    5. Reinstall the JRE.
    6. Reboot your system.
    Hope this helps.

  • Silent Install of j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe ???

I have tried to do a silent installtion of j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe with this command line syntax :
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe /S /v/qn"ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=C:\java\jre REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 /L C:\temp\javainstall.log"
The installation process starts what I could see in Task Manager a process called " j2re-1_4_2_03-w" starts but dissapear in 10 sec and the installation does not continue what I could see. No installation directory has been created and no log etc.
Do anyone have any clue what could be the issue here, do I use wrong syntax etc ??
We are going to use Sun Java runtime instead of Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, when that is going to be unsupported Sept 30 -04.

The correct syntax for the command line should be
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v"/qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=C:\java\jre REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 /L C:\temp\javainstall.log"
The first " (Quote) should be between the /v and the /qn without any spaces. There should be a space after the /qn and before any other parameters.

  • J2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p Slient Intall not work... pls help...

I've created a batch file to slient install j2re 1.4.2 for our PC, just like below:
    @echo off
    C:\java\j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v "/qn /L C:\Java\setup.log REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 IEXPLORER=1"
    exit
after I run the batch file, task manager showed the process "j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p" for just a few second... after that, nothing has been done...
I would like to ask what is the problem with the batch file ? our computer all running with WinXP SP2,
    Thank you very much

Ok. I think i've found a solution that at least it's working for me. Don't ask me the exact details, because i'm no java expert. I believe it's related to the java version firefox recognise. In my case, since i'm using 2.0.0.6, all i did was add this parameter for my config section:
jpi_mimetype=application/x-java-applet (pick the lastest one installed i guess).
    Now, everything it's working OK.
    Best regards, Luis ...!

  • Having trouble installing j2re-1_4_06-windows-i586

Hello! I recently built a computer and am trying to install Java 2 Runtime Environment on it. The computer has WinXP, SP2 on it. I downloaded j2re-1_4_06-windows-i586 from Java.com and began to install it. Towards the end of the installation process, a message popped up saying "Java(TM) Update (1.4.2_14-b05) cannot be installed on this machine because the Java(TM) Virtual Machine is currently running. Please close all running Java(TM) applications, especially browsers." I have run into this problem in the past with another XP machine. I don't recall how to correct it though. What do I need to do to fix this?
    M Ridzon

I'd suggest check the running processes on the machine and see if a Java VM is running, if so, kill it from the Task Manager.

  • Install fails j2re-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe

I'm also having this problem with j2sdk-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe. The install starts ok, but I ghen get "Failed to extract file Dll_.ini" from the binary table. the 1.3 runtime installs fine, but it looks like the installer changed with 1.4

I finally got this running, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. I took a look at: http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?pcode=ALL&articleid=Q105416&source=support_central&product=wind
I wasn't willing to make all the security changes it suggested, but tried a couple of them which didn't work and I restored the original permissions. I noticed that most if not all gave permissions to local admins, but not domain admins. That gave me the idea of trying log on to the local machine. I did that and both the jre and jdk installed without a hitch. I can't explain why this worked as this machine and my office machine are virtually the same and I built most of both networks. I log on to both machines with my domain userid. The office machine worked the first time. I will be taking a look at the installshield article again to compare the settings on both machines.
Bottom line, try logging in on the local machine and installing.

    Hello,
I know I have to install J2RE or J2SE before but every time I try to download J2RE self-extracting archives I never get the same file length neither the same sum. Obviously, the script aborts when checking file integrity.
I wonder, what I am doing wrong. Here are the results of several attempts under windows and freebsd, using SDM or not. I was unable to install SDM on Solaris for the same reason.

  • How to Launch an Integration Builder under two different java versions

How to Launch an Integration Builder under two different java versions     1
    1. Situation     2
    2. How To Do     2

2.2 Put them into the system     2
2.3 Execute a Java Web Start under jre 1.4.x version     3
2.4 Change Java Runtime Versions     3
2.5 Launch an Integration Builder     6
    1. Situation
OS: windows 2000 pro – English
Java version: jdk 1.5.x was already installed. (It’s not permitted to change.)
I don’t have any authorization to install any software on the PC.
But I need to use an Integration Builder.
I already knew URLs of an Integration Builder (http://<hostname>:50000/rep/start/repository.jnlp).
    2. How To Do
At this moment, an Integration Builder (XI 3.0) can be launch under jre 1.4.x environment (on windows).
    2.1 jre preparation
    I download j2re-1_4_2_10-windows-i586-p.exe from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
I installed it on my home PC and copied all files from C:\Program Files\Java\ j2re1.4.2_10\ into my USB.
2.2 Put them into the system
I pasted j2re1.4.2_10 folder from my USB into the windows 2000 pro system.
Finally, I could list up all of javaws.exe under this system.
    c:\j2re1.4.2_10\javaws\javaws.exe
    c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_05\bin\javaws.exe
    c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_05\jre\bin\javaws.exe
    c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_05\bin\javaws.exe
2.3 Execute a Java Web Start under jre 1.4.x version
    I executed c:\j2re1.4.2_10\javaws\javaws.exe .
    2.4 Change Java Runtime Versions
Go to File-> Preferences -> Java
As you can see, it indicates 1.5 version.
    Click [FIND] button.
    Click [NEXT] button.
    Click the j2re1.4.2_10 folder.
    Click [NEXT] button.
A JRE Finder is able to find javaw.exe automatically. Or you can indicate C:\j2re1.4.2_10\bin\javaw.exe directly.
    Click [NEXT] button.
Finally, there are two Java Runtime Versions. Now you need to uncheck the Enabled column of 1.5 version and check 1.4 version.
    Click [OK] button.
Well, in the General tab, I selected None for Proxies.
    2.5 Launch an Integration Builder
In the Location field, I typed the URL of an Integration Builder jnlp.
    http://<hostname>:50000/rep/start/repository.jnlp
SAP Integration Builder comes up inside Applications area.
Select it and click [Start] button.
If you click Environment-> Integration Builder (Configuration), you can launch Integration Builder: Configuration.

I am not getting anywhere with deploying my application or
    applet.
I have set up my bc4j project. It contains all my VO info,
    links, application module. (proj a)
I then have another project with DbInfo in it(has all my rowset
info), Multiple Frames, and my Applet.java file.
Actually I have an Applet.java file and a Application.java file
because I was seeing if both/either worked. Anyway they seem the
same, except for that extra window that comes up when you run the
    applet.
I follow the steps in the oracle directions (from earlier post).
And all seems ok. But at ---->
[*] Select the subdirectory under myhtml where your applet's HTML
    file
is located, and enter the directory path of the 'staging'
    directory you
created in step 3 above, if different from the default.</li>
[*]Select the HTML files that JDeveloper created to run your
    applet.</li>
[*]Select all of the Java source files in your project that make
    up the
    applet.</li>
I have no HTML file associated with my applet, at least that I
    know of.
So do I need to create one, or should it of been done
    automatically.
Also, I trying to figure out what will be the best way to deploy
my project. Applet or stand alone application is what my first
choices have been so far. I have read that there is some issues
with applets being served from a different server than the
database. So a stand alone application was my front runner, but
I haven't gotten either way to work yet.

  • System freezes every time I use a Java based app

    Hi all,
Very new to all this as I don't really know what to do, where to post or really how to ask about this.
It started out that I wanted to try to use JAlbum, a program that creates photo albums to share on the web etc..... I upgraded the Java app on my WinXP Pro (service packs and updates in place) to the newest version of Java. I even uninstalled all previous versions of Java, rebooted a couple of times and installed the newer version (j2re-1_4_2_10-windows-i586-p.exe).
I was instructed to install the JEdit free edit pad type app. The application went smoothly. When I exited the installer my system froze. When I rebooted and started up the .jar file all went well. I created a test file and saved it and then exited the program. System froze up. Started up JAlbum after rebooting, same thing. Program works right but then system freezes up and I have to do a hard reboot.
I work with 3D stuff all the time (Poser, DAZ Studio) as well as in Photoshop CS so my system is kept up to date for this reason alone. My system is considered very stable my geek friends and so this is very strange as this has NOT ever happened to me in the years I've been using WinXP Pro!!
Please let me know if there is anything you can suggest, besides reloading up Windows, that's not an option, that's the easy way out and with more thant a hundred programs on board that is not something I relish doing!
    Thanks very much

I was turned on to a thread here that seems to have some info.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=661574
I did update my Direct X that I'm embarrassed to admit was out of date. Still froze the system after the reboot trying to run a Java based app. So now I have tried the vaiable solution and set the nVidia video card options to Application Controlled and I'll see what happens.
I'm going to reboot, again and then run JAlbum and keep my fingers crossed. If that doesn't work then how do I implement the last posters suggestion?? Through the Run dialog (copy/paste and hit OK?)
    Thanks much for your help!

  • HELP JAVA LAGGING PROBLEM

help... whenever i try to load any java applets.. it'll lag and have 100% CPU usage... and i cant move at all..
i followed the intructions on how to install java and when trying to test the java...
the same problems came.. lagging came where 100% CPU usage is happening...
now i cant use any java applets.. not even my limewire..
    help??
    anyone?

Same problem here. Installed their latest JRE 1.5.0_5 Update but verification/detection of Java Environment was negative on my machine. Obviously applets failed to load, it's quite annoying. I didn't find a fix for the 1.5.0 Update but at least I got applets loading again.
The following is what I did in Win XP Pro to get
    a) applets running again
    b) OK verification of the JRE:
    1. Make a System Restore with private label
    2. uninstall the Google toolbar in Control Panel->Settings->Add/Remove Programs
    2. uninstall the 1.5.0_05 JRE in Control Panel->Settings->Add/Remove Programs
    3. Install the j2re-1_4_2_10-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
Click on 'Download J2SE JRE' further down the page.
Now go to java.com, click 'Verify Installation', new screen pops up click on yellow tab. Your installation should be verified which enables your applet loads again.
    4. Make another private label System Restore
This should get you going again until Sun has sorted out the problems. I am in contact with them and they are trying to resolve this bugeroo(s). Until then just steer clear from reinstalling the 1.5.0 JRE.
    Good luck!

  • Apache on Windows XP Problem

    Dear Experts,
I was wondering if anyone could kindly help me. I have an Oracle Database installed on my pc and with installation Apache was also installed. The problem I have is I cannot access the web server. I am using Windows XP. From windows if I go to start and then choose the programs I have installed, under Oracle there is an option called "Oracle HTTP Server". If I click on that folder I have the following options to choose from:
Stop HTTP Server powered by Apache
Start HTTP Server powered by Apache
If I choose the either option a command promt window opens with the following message:
    ===============================================================
fopen: No such file or directory
Apachie.exe: could not open document config file e:/oracle/ora92/xdk/admin/xml.conf
Note the errors or messages above, and press the <ESC> key to exit. 26...
    ===============================================================
I have tried to open the above path by using START >> RUN but am given an error message telling me the file doesnt exist. On my machine I am running IIS on my localhost port 80. I thought maybe when Apache was installed there may be a problem with a conflict on port 80. So I changed the port number of IIS and tried to run the localhost hoping apache would open. However that didn't work.
I also downloaded Apache again and installed it hoping the problem would be solved. After I done this in Windows a new window called "Apachie Service Monitor" was installed. When I open this what I see is the following:
    =============================================================
    Service Status:
    - OracleOraHome92HTTPServer
    The OracleOraHome92HTTPServer is starting.
    =============================================================
In this window I have the following options:
    OK, Start, Services and Connect
If I press "Start" I get an error message window - "The request Operation has failed"
If I press "Services" The services window in Contol Panel/Administrative Tools/Services opens.
I really dont know what to do. I have run out of ideas. I would be greatful if someone could kindly help me. What do I do to rectify this problem? What I want is basically Apache working and assign it a port eg 90. So if I typed in "localhost:90" in my webrowser the Apache webserver homepage would open.
I really do hope someone could kindly help me.
I look forward to all replys
    Thanks
    Kindest Regards
    M.Ahmad

First, I thank you for your notice.
In fact, I installed the JRE (j2re-1_4_2_10-windows-i586-p.exe)on that PC only.
Also, I cannot find the checkbox that give the rights for all users during the jre installing process.
However, even I login as normal user,I can execute a simple java class(just print the words "Hello World") in command prompt.
The only thing is that we have some web pages which contain a java applete. The browser show a "X" only when I login as normal user.
Moreover, I cannot open the java console in IE.
However, it works fine when I login as administrator.

  • How do I install jre .sh patches on a solaris box

    Hi All,
Sorry for the incredibly dumb question but I don't know how to do this. I've downloaded the JRE files from
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
put them into the tmp directory of the sparc I want to have them but don't know what to do with them to ge them to run!!
I've 2 larfe files j2se.... both ending in .sh which I understand means they are unix shell script files. I'll want every user to be able to use these & I have root privilages.
    Can anyone help???
    Keith

It's a self-extracting shell script. Run it with the "/bin/sh" command (bourne shell). It unpacks to the current
    directory.
The following will install a J2SDK to /usr as "/usr/j2sdk1.4.2_02", assuming the downloaded .sh file is in /tmp:
    cd /usr
    sh /tmp/j2sdk-1_4_2_02-solaris-i586.sh
