J2SDK-1.4.0.02.rpm for Linux 7.3 does a bogus Install

I'm NOT a newbie to Linux. I've been using Linux for about 5 years.
I'm currently using RedHat ver 7.3 and I can't get your SDK to install correctly.
I execute the J2sdk-1.4.0.02-linux-i586-rpm.bin to get the rpm file
I install the rpm file and it all looks normal. My RPM manager shows
a list of installed files etc. It all looks normal.
Now I goto a BASH shell prompt and do a "locate java" and it shows
all the new files under /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.0_02/ directory.
To check my installed version I issue the command: "java -version".
Guess what I get? This message:
"Kaffe Virtual Machine Transvirtual tech Inc. Engine Just-In-Time v3
version 1.0.6 Java version 1.1"
When I try to run any of the "jar" files that work fine in Micro$oft
Windows, they fail to run. It does not look as if Sun's Java is installed
at all. I've scoured the Readme, the Forums, FAQ's and your website.
I can't even get a "hit" in your search engine on the string "Kaffe".
It's as if the Linux system does not know the files have been installed.
What's wrong? And why can't I find any documentation on this problem?
A quick HOWTO for Installing & registering with the Linux system would be nice.
Thanks in advance,
Vic Bradley

I don't understand your step 7 (the first step 7, actually).
What is that unixODBC-2.2.14-linux-x86-32.tar.gz, where did it come from, and why are you doing all that?
unixODBC should be installed after step 5.
I guess that that is the cause of your problem.
isql is not linked against readline at all on my RHEL 5 system.
Do you notice any improvement after removing the files from that tar.bz file?

  • AIR for Linux - how to disable popups during install?

During the AIR for Linux .bin install, how can we disable the two popups (that the user must select "Agree" and "Finish" on)?
Our company wants to migrate to AIR for online help but the popups need to be disabled. We'd be incorporating the AIR install into our sw builds and the sw manager will not approve until the popups are disabled.
Neglected AIR for Linux only offers .bin installs that have these two popups.(HINT HINT... Adobe please provide different AIR for Linux installations other than .bin installs.)

    Hi auzenne
With AIR2, AIR runtime installers for Linux are provided as deb and rpm packages, which should take care of your requirements. Try out AIR2 beta from:

  • 9iDS for Linux - OWB, Disco Admin etc are missing from download

I've just installed 9iDS release 2 on a laptop running SuSE 8.0 and Oracle 9i release 2 Enterprise Edition.
As my work primarily involves 9i database and OWB 9i, I was to say the least dissappointed that 9iDS for Linux does not include OWB, or for that matter Disco Admin or Reports Admin.
When you go to download 9iDS for Linux, the download page says "This download includes the full distribution of Oracle9iDS", and the previous page (which lists all the elements of the download, next to the links for Windows, Linux, HP-UX and so on) does not in any way indicate that OWB is not included in the download.
There is, separately downloadable, an 'early adopters' release of OWB for Linux, but this does not include the bridging technology to Discoverer, Express and 9i OLAP. As it's 'early adopted' presumably it's not too stable.
Has anyone used this? Has anyone tried using a laptop purely with Linux on it as a way of using 9iDS? Does anyone at Oracle know when a full release of 9iDS, with all the elements found in the Windows release, will be made available? In the meantime, Oracle should clearly state on the Linux download page that not all the elements of 9iDS are found in the Linux version.

  • Performance Oracle for Linux OS/390

    Hi all,
somebody know some issues in Oracle for Linux OS/390..?
    instalation, performance, etc.
    Thanks and advanced.
    Best regards....

    Hi Shane,
Oracle has only released client software for Intel Macs, but not the full database server software. If you want to run the Oracle database on your Mac, I suggest installing on a supported OS running in a virtual machine (VMware Fusion, Parallels, or VirtualBox). Michael McLaughlin has a very thorough post on his blog about using an Intel Mac as a client for a database server running in VMware Fusion.

    2) The WebLogic jDriver for Oracle doesn't exist for Linux RH6.2. The only

Correct. Our native Oracle driver uses Oracle's OCI libraries. Last I
heard, the Oracle OCI libs were pretty buggy on Linux.

  • Output for Linux

    Hi all.
We have a new client who has a Linux environment and I was
just wondering what sort of output is best for this. Currently, we
use a .chm to provide context sensitive help for our application
but I believe that won't work for Linux people. Does that sound
    right?
I realise that an alternative output will no longer be
context sensitive but it would still be nice to give them access to
    the content.
Any suggestions would (as always) be greatly appreciated.
    Regards

    Hi Kathy,
I asked a similar question about a year ago, so here's my
    take on the subject.
A .chm file is a proprietary Microsoft format so only works
under Windows. You can find programs that interpret .chm files on
other operating systems, but then you have to distribute the
interpreter program as well as the help, and I'm not sure how good
    the results are.
WebHelp is the way to go for a Linux environment, although
there are a few oddities in the way it displays. Peter Grainge's
site has an excellent section about WebHelp in other browsers.
    Here's
    the link.
The main difference between .chm and WebHelp output is that
WebHelp is not compiled, so you have to supply the client with ALL
the output files, not just a single file.
Can't help with context sensitive help as I haven't used it,
but I'm sure somebody else can chime in with the necessary
    information.
    Good luck!
    Anne

  • Rpm for telnet utility on oracle linux 5.7

    Hi,
I new to oracle linux , and i have two questions:
    1) I have an oracle linux installed on one of our servers. I think its version 5.7 but i am not 100% sure.
I run cat/etc/issue but it doest report the oracle linux version. How can i found out which version installed on this server ?
    2) I need to install rpm for telnet. From where i can download only the required telnet rpm for verion 5.7 ?
    Thanks

    1) The following should help:
    http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/027626.pdf
    2) Telnet has been replaced by SSH, similar to FTP, for serious security reasons.
The Telnet client is normally installed by default. To install the client and server, the following should work:
    <pre>
    yum install telnet telnet-server
    </pre>
To setup access to Oracle Public yum, see this link: http://public-yum.oracle.com/

  • JIT / Static compiler for Linux/J2SDK 1.4

    Hello friends,
Could you please suggest a static / JIT compiler to native code for Linux / J2SDK platform? If you are using one, I would appreciate any comments.
    Thank you.

Ok, but if you compile a java program directly into an
executable (thats what I think he's talking about),
then its always faster than a VM that has to analyze,
    etc first.mkmm... untrue....
when you want to compile into native code before runtime, then you don't know runtime variables, and you cant optimize out the ones that are for example loaded at the beginning of the program, and will never change.
but if hotspot dedects that such a case appears, that it has to run some method over and over again, just to return the same value all the time, then it may just substitute that method with the returned value....
or something like that.... (havent coded any hotspot engine yet, so woun't know for sure ;)

  • JDK 1.4.2 for Linux Redhat 5 on x86_64 (amd64) ?

    Hi,
i need to install a Netweaver 2004s on a Redhat 5 x86_64 system. But I can't find a source for downloading the correct JDK or SDK version.
OSS 941595 provides a link to java.sun.com with a special package for SAP-software, but it provides only solaris and windows packages. On java.sun.com it looks like there is no package for linux x86_64 previous java 1.5.x.
I found a SAP-presentation, on it they refer to an IBM-rpm java package which should work. But were to download it? On ibm.com I could not find it...
    Thanks for any hints!
    Roland

    hi,
    thanks for your answer!
    But there they provide:
    - j2sdk-1_4_2_12-linux-i586.bin --> this is 32bit
    - j2sdk-1_4_2_12-linux-ia64.bin --> this is IA64 (also called "Itanium"), which is NOT the same as x86_64 (also called Amd64 or Intel64)
    - and some solaris-packages, which I also can not use
The problem is to find a package for Linux x86_64. I need this platform to be able to use more than 4gb memory...
