Japanese characters retrieved from UTF8 d/b from excel

Hi All,
I am generating a csv file(comma seperated) through a query from Oracle 9i database. There is one field which is Japanese. Our database is UTF8 enabled and when the csv file is opened from notepad/textpad then it is showing the Japanese characters properly but when we are opening the file from excel(which is our requirement) then the data is not coming properly.
I am copying the data below directly from the excel sheet. CLIENT_NAME_LOCAL(NVARCHAR2 field) is the field which captures japanese. It can be seen that the data for the FUND_CODE=811018 is correctly coming but for 809985 it is seen that the CLIENT_NAME_LOCAL and FUND_CODE columns are getting concatenated with a ・ sign in the middle and so in the FUND_CODE column the FROM_DATE value is coming, though the delimition ',' can be seen between the two fields when I'm opening the file from notepad. It is to be noted that I've used the CONVERT function in my query after this to change the CLIENT_NAME_LOCAL column to 'JA16SJIS' characterset but nothing got changed.
N.B- I've copy and paste the data from excel so in the html format it seems that the FUND_CODE and FROM_DATE values are on the same vertical line but it is not so.

You can open UTF-8 files in excel:
1. change file extension to .txt
2. in excel: Open/File -> point to your file
3. excel opens file convert dialog, in "file origin" field choose: "65001:Unicode (UTF-8)"
4. proceed with other setting - You got it!
This procedure work for sure in Excel 2003

  • Japanese characters showing Junk when opened in MS Excel

    Hello Friends,
I am working on a BSP project but this one is a little of ABAP as we are allowing some download reports via ABAP but all other interfaces via BSP..BUT eventually, we will be converting them to BSP download features.
At this point, I am facing a strange issue while downloading via normal ABAP but I am speculating I may face this issue even if I download via a BSP Download option. Here is my issue:
I have a ABAP report which displays vendor name and address as a list.  Some of the vendor address are in Japanese Language and they are displayed properly on the report output ie on screen. (We have logged in as language JA). Now, when the user uses the SAP standard menu ie SYSTEM->LIST->SAVE->Local File-> and selects SPREADSHEET and saves the file as a .XLS on his desktop. When he opens this MS Excel spreadsheet from the desktop...all the Japanese characters are displaying as JUNK!
Since it is displaying properly on SAP, I am assuming this is something to do either with MS Excel or there is something going wrong when SAP downloads to Excel.
How can I get the Japanese characters displayed properly via the spreadsheet. Could anyone kindly help me to resolve this issue.
Our SAP is NON UNICODE enabled. We are on SAP ECC 5 ie 6.40.
    Your help is much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Shan

    kumar,
I wrote to SAP about this issue and here is what they have to say and the solution they suggested.
the files which are created by the download as spreadsheet option are
no true Excel files (see note 569537).
Therefore the automatic import into Excel fails sometimes, and Excel
needs additional parameters to import such a file.
    Could you try the following:
    1. Rename the file so that the extension is .txt - not .xls.
    2. Open the file in Excel via the File->Open dialog.
    3. In the import wizard, choose encoding "932 - Japanese (Shift Jis)"
In my case (Excel 2007) the files were displayed correctly. The problem
is that Excel does not know the original encoding of the file, so the
encoding must be specified by the user.
    We followed the same.
    Hope this helps.

  • Japanese characters are not displayed properly - Crystal Report XI

    Hello,
We are upgrading reports from CR8 to CR11.
When I preview the CR8 report I can see the Japanese Characters (Coming from Database).
After saving the CR8 report as CR11 report, When I preview the report I cannot see the Japanese Character which I was able to see in CR8.
Why I am seeing unknown characters in CR11? When CR8 displays Japanese, then CR11 should display right?
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Showing Japanese characters from Report Builder

Hi , We've some problem showing the Japanese characters using Oracle Report builder 6i (6.0.8.17.0).
Our database version is Oracle9i-9.0.1.4.0 and
we'r using the DB character set as US7ASCII and National charecter set as UTF8 (Tried with AL16UTF16 but it's supported as per Oracle-metalink). We'r using Solaris 9 (OS 5.9) to invoke the Report Builder.
Japanese characters are able to insert and select from SQL prompt using Japanese Terminal..
But from the Report builder when we run the Report, we'r seeing some junk characters. Please help if anybody has worked on showing the Japanese characters from Report builder.
    Thanks

  • Reading Japanese characters from a JSP/HTML form.

I have a JSP/STRUTS/WEBLOGIC/ORACLE setup. I am able to get Japanese characters in database to be shown on the screen ( html ). However the users now want to enter Japanese characters on the screen and want to save these unicode characters in DB. How should I go about it?
I am using html:text tag for the input fields in the JSP. No matter what I try I am getting invalid characters..Thanks in advance.

    hi debo_nair,
if i am not mistaken the japanese characters might be getting stored in the database as '?????' and other junk characters....
well I used the following technique:
1.retrieve the string from the text field and
2.convert it using the following method...
new String getbytes("the string entered in the text field","ISO-8859")
3.Next , store the string in the database
the syntax may be incorrect but just refer to any java book to get the correct syntax

  • Creating a PDF from a SAAS app creates boxes instead of Japanese characters

I'm using an online app (Unleashed Software) to "print" invoices, and the printed invoices show boxes instead of Japanese characters. The really weird thing about this problem, is that it occurs only on certain devices. I've tested on Macs, Windows, Android, and iOS, and on some devices I get the problem, and on some devices I don't. It's not just a Windows problem, or a iOS problem. Additionally, I use different browsers, from Chrome, to IE, to Firefox, to Safari. Changing the browser doesn't seem to help when it's on a device that won't output Japanese characters in a PDF properly.
I'm wondering how PDFs are generated when using online software. Since I can't reproduce the problem on certain devices, it seems to me that the software is using some local settings to render the PDF incorrectly.
Any ideas of how I could go about troubleshooting this problem?

    Hi,
Could you please answer the following questions
1.What version of Crystal Reports are you using?
Go to Help-> About to find out.
2.What is the font you are using on the report?
Try to change the font style to MS Gothic or Arial Unicode MS, most preferably MS Gothic.
And export the report to PDF format.
    This may help you
    Thanks,

  • Japanese characters from args giving question marks on Japanese OS

    Hi,
We are internationalising our product to japanese, and one of the features is to be able to open a file containing japanese characters from a double click on a japanese windows OS.
The double click is set up in the registry, and indeed it works properly for most characters. There are a few characters though (unicode character 20060 among them) that it doesn't work for, and what happens is that between the double clicking of the file, and the command line name of the file to open ("%1" in the registry / args[0] in java), the character in question is converted into the literal character for "?" (ascii 63), and java can't open the file.
Testing wordpad directly with this character is fine, the file opens. I've written a simple C++ app and a simple JAVA app which fork wordpad with the fileName param passed to it from the registry, and it didn't open the file passed because of that character.
So our java application, a simple java program and a simple C++ program can't resolve the fileName passed to it because of this character.
The thing is, wordpad is using the same regedit method to get its parameters as we do ("appName.exe" "%1" in shell/open/command) and it opens files containing this character without a problem.
Any ideas on what I'm missing?
    Thanks very much

JackUnicode 20060 belongs to an extended part of JIS Kanji code set and there can be many
applications or systems that do not support those characters. Shift_JIS doesn't and
EUC-JP use 24 bit code for representig those chars which, unfortunately, aren't supported
    by most exixting apps.

  • Printing Japanese Characters on Zebra ZM400 from Smartform

    Hi Experts
I am trying to configure a Zebra ZM400 printer to print a Japanese label from a smartform but get no Japanese characters on the output.
The original language of the smartform is English, but I have maintained a translation in SE63 which uses the Andale_J font.
The printer ZM400 has the ANDMJ.TTF font installed and the printer has been set up in SPAD to use the LZEBU2 device type (which is the Zebra Printer Driver for 200dpi) and the Berkeley protocol (U).
When looking at the printer spool in graphical format I am getting the appropriate Japanese characters displayed, when looking in RAW format it appears to be using the correct font, FCANDALE_J, although the characters are represented as #'s.  On the printer output, I get numbers or English where no translation has been maintained, but nothing where the Japanese characters should be.
Has anyone come across this problem before, or have any idea how to solve this issue?
    Thanks very much
    Andrew Beavan

    Hi Aidan
Thanks for your swift response, as you may have guessed this is all very new to me and so I am struggling to make much progress.
I have uploaded the andale_j font to the printer which creates a file called anmdj.TTF.  I have also uploaded a JIS.DAT file which should convert any TTF to unicode and a printer configuration file which should effectively set this font as the default.
I have tried to upload a TTF font in SAP using se73 and created a device type to go with this, however whenever I set the device type for the printer to this I get no print spool request generated.  Based on your reply, I have created a style using the TTF font I uploaded, but again when I reference this in a smartform I get no errors displayed, but I also don't get a print spool request generated so I'm not convinced that the font has been loaded correctly into SAP.
I have just wiped the flash memory on the printer and am re-loading the font using a slightly different setting on the printer, so will try that, but welcome any further suggestions or clarifications if I have mis-understood your previous reply.
    Many thanks for your help.

  • Migrating Japanese Characters from MS SQL Server 2000 to Oracle 9i usng Jsp

    Hi ,
I have a situation where the Japanese characters are to be migrated from MS SQL Server 2000 to Oracle 91 and then render the same using JSP.
    I followed the below approach,
    1. Extract the Japanese data from MS SQL Server and generate an XML
    2. Parse the XML and store it into Oracle 9i database which is of UTF-8 encoding.
    3. On retreiving and rendering using the Shift-JIS adds few junk characters additionally.
When I try to copy paste the Japanese contents from XML to a text file, it is working fine.
Could some one help me in resolving this issue?
It is very urgent, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is documentation in the reference guide sent with the workbench, there is this discussion forum, the support web page (which includes tech notes and FAQ's), and the company specific procedural language documentation.
There is also an older document for use with the old sybase toolkits which may be obscelete, and there are some internal documents which were for internal consumption.

  • How do I copy/paste Japanese characters from Word to ID CS5.5?

I'm using ID CS5.5 as my layout program and helping my girlfriend lay out a children's book she's working on. She's a Spanish professor at a local university. So far, we've done the text in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and German. But she also wants to provide the book in Japanese, so had one of her colleagues, who is from Japan, translate it and provided the translation to me in the body of an e-mail, which I copied and pasted into Word. However, when I pasted it into the InDesign layout, I get the pink boxes with the "x", indicating that particular font isn't installed. I understand this. I selected one of the Japanese characters and checked the info in Word, finding that it is CJK Unified Ideograph, character code 69D8, keyboard shortcut 69D8, Alt+x. Here is the character: 様
Here is one of the sentences in Japanese:
    カルロスです。ぼくにはしんゆうがいて、ジャバリとジョッシュといいます。ぼくらはいつもいっしょにあそびます。みためはちがうけど、にているとこもたくさんあります
Is it absolutely impossible to accomplish our goal without having the particular Japanese typset installed on my system that he's using? It's showing up here and in Word. ????? I've done a search and did a lot of reading, but didn't find my exact issue, so just wanted to start fresh and hopefully get some helpful input. If this has been discussed before, I apologize, but didn't find it.
    Thanks
    DC

Your line breaks will most likely be incorrect if you don't turn on the Japanese Composer.
It is almost absolutely impossible to accomplish your goal without having a font - any font - installed on your system that has that glyph. However, if it's showing up in Word, than means that you must have that glyph installed, right? What font are you trying to use in InDesign? You might already know that Word will auto-substitute fonts when it encounters a missing glyph, so we really don't know what font is being used to render that one glyph. The whole sentence might be in MS Mincho but one glyph might be pulled from another font if MS Mincho doesn't have that glyph.
That being said, you're going to break it if you don't know how to set Japanese type in ID. It's not something where you can just copy text out of email and paste into your English layout.

  • Upload data from excel where one column has text of 3000 characters

    Guyz,
I have a query. One of my requirments is to upload data from excel sheet & create a material. In the excel sheet one of the columns has text for BASIC DATA TEXT under ADDITIONAL DATA of a Material. This is a text of running length.
the selection screen has feature of file upload & the users will upload excel files from their respective presentation servers.
Now my problem is that I need a function module which can convert this column in excel sheet into an internal table & later call the BAPI for MM creation.
I have used TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP & when i read my internal table to check this column length, it shows only 255 characters where as data in the excel sheet has 3000 characters (say for eg.)
Can anybody throw some light on this.
    Thanks in advance
    GPK

    Hi,
You can try using this function module and see that whether all your data is coming into the internal table properly.
    MS_EXCEL_OLE_STANDARD_DAT
For the other part you needed to convert the internal table data into the structure as need by the BAPI and then call the create BAPI to create the materials in the SAP System.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Samantak.
