Java 1.5.0_06 and above Rev installs
When we install Java 1.5.0_06 or above revs of JRE the install adds 150+ registry keys and over writes existing ones. Example of new registry keys, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{CAFEEFAC-0014-0002-0011-ABCDEFFEDCBB}, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{CAFEEFAC-0014-0002-0012-ABCDEFFEDCBA}, etc. This prevents multiple apps using different revs of Java. This does not happen with revs before 1.5.0_06. The following link is to a Sun web document that states you should be able to run different revs of Java (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/using_tags.html). Has anyone else experienced this behavior? If so, is there a work around?
This is a designed change for security purposes, as noted in the release document. There are other posts regarding this, and some claimed workarounds - search these forums for them.

Java 1.5.0_06 and Switching Portals
I just installed JRE 1.5.0_06 and noticed a problem with my portal application. We run software called NRX which frontends our SAP Plant Maintenance system. We have 4 portals, 3 test and 1 production. When I had a prior version of Java, I was able to open IE and switch between portals with no problem. Now with this new version, when I open IE and go to the first portal url, I work fine. If I log out and switch my url to point to a different portal, I get a Java error:
Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-8" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Can't load library: c:\program files\infozoom\izmjnicom.dll
This only happens if I leave IE open and switch portals. If I close IE and reopen I can go to the second portal and work fine.
The path specified above mentions Infozoom. I don't know what infozoom is but I researched it and found its a Java developer tool. I do have this library on my PC but under a different path. I have no idea why its looking for this infozoom software.
Has anyone seen this before?

Michelle LemayI was doing more research on this yesterday and ran across something but I can't find the article again.
I saw somebody report a bug saying they couldn't run two applets that used the same library. I don't remember what jre version the bug was for. Java had replied this is intentional but you'd think the whole concept of shared libraries would be to allow this.
I wonder if this could be my problem because I'm going to one portal, executing the applet that loads the library the first time and it works fine. I then log off, switch portals, execute the applet again in the new portal (same applet) and this time it can't load the library it needs. If I close IE and reopen to the new portal it works fine, probably because cache is cleared (??)
Has anyone come across this? -
[Solved] Java 1.5.0_06 + Subversion 1.3.0-1 - Eclipse cr
I just upgraded to the latest Java 1.5.0_06 from the extra repo. I'm using Eclipse 3.1.1-2 and Subversion 1.3.0-1, also from the extra repo. However, Eclipse keeps crashing since installing the newest Java version, with a JVM terminated exit code=1 error. Looking through the hs_err_pid.log files, it is always related to Subversion.
Removing Subversion and changing the Settings in Eclipse from using JavaHL (JNI) to JavaSVN (pure Java) eliminates the problem.
Can anyone else confirm that Java 1.5.0_06 and Subversion 1.3.0-1 are incompatible, and if so, is there an updated Subversion on its way? Or is the problem related to the way that the Tigris.subclipse plugin in Eclipse uses Subversion? Mind you that the plugin does in fact work when just using JavaSVN (pure Java) which does not require Subversion to be installed.

I've installed subversion and eclipse via pacman, the subclipse-plugin via the eclipse-update-manager. I set up an local repository and where able connecting my running svnserve without any problem. If i remember correctly JavaSVN doesn't support accessing the repository with file://path/to/repository/project.
Set-up steps:
1. edit /etc/conf.d/svnserve to set the repository root (-r /path/to/repository)
2a. svnadmin create add /path/to/my/repository/root/project
2b. edit /path/to/my/repository/root/project/conf/*
3. svn co svn://localhost/project
4. create some files and add them to your repository
svn add filenames
5. svn commit
How did you set up your subversion repository? Have you ever tried to checkout an existing project with:
svn co svn://localhost/my/repository

Lighter Java GUI than awt and swing?
I had recently came across a company website (http://www.bambookit.com) where they developed a java gui library without using awt and swing (seems to what they claim). And on top of that it uses xml to generate the gui components (they call widgets) and the whole library size is only 95kb and supports java 1.1.x and above. Their demos on the applets loads super fast, never know/experience that java applets can actually be this quick. But this confuses me, how is it possible to develop a gui alternative to awt with the basic java classes and no dependency on awt? But since the applets are awt based, it means that they must have some dependencies.
This is an extract from their website (that it seemed they did not use awt)
"Java has a fundamental flaw in its paint thread that made it very difficult to build extremely large applications without getting severe performance and resource penalties (This affects both AWT and Swing based applications). It�s main repaint queue\thread when assigning paint regions to various controls uses the Graphics objects to �clip� them. On a Sun Solaris machine this does not cause any problems, however on a windows machine each Graphics object consumes a system resource/handle, (a limit of around 16,000 exists on Win 95 and Win 98 machines). Each Bitmap image, each font object, each icon consumes a single system resource or handle. If a full repaint is performed on an application containing 1000 controls, it would consume at LEAST 1000 system resource handles. If the application was updated many times a second, lets say 10 times a second, then that equates to 10,000 handles a second. This is not taking into account labels within controls, the various fonts styles and sizes created, the various images that get loaded. This could easily exceed 20,000 system resource requests a second. Bambookit on the other hand utilizes the clip routines and passes along a SINGLE Graphics objects to all its various controls. This alone is a HUGE savings in system resources and performance."
Two questions came to my mind:
1) Is it possible to build applet gui without using awt and swing in java? If so the only way to do is to use JNI calls?
2) Am I wrong in interpreting www.bambookit.com's message that they are not using awt?

If you just want a very fast & light alternative to swing/awt have a look at www.lwvcl.com !
I use it for a large applet-applikation that has to be java-1.1 compatible. It was a horor when using AWT which was implemented different over all JVMs available and very slow (although native widgets were used).
With lwvcl (which has only 150kB!) I can use state of the art applets that work very fast on modern jvms like 1.4, give me the ability to compile my applikation to native code using GCJ (using the swt-prt of the library) or distribute it to old-school 1.1 browser where it also runs quite fine...
Its free for GPL and very cheap for commercial use.

Installation Error 1350 for java version 1.5 and 1.4 which i have tried
i tried to install the latest java ie 1.5.0_04 or matter of fact other java versions also but the Installation of java is stopped by the Error code : 1335. following up with the Internal Error code : 2350.
My system configuration is PIV 2.4 Ghz HT enabled. Intel 865GBF motherboard. 512Mb DDR ram. The problem is coming in the Data1.Cab.
I even tried online installation. Eventually J2RE latest edition has installed from Java.com update. But the JDK 1.5 has the same problem even while downloading it from the Server online.
Plz help me out in installing java in my computer. Its urgent for my project work.
Email:[email protected]I also had problems when trying to install 1.5.0. I must have downloaded the offline installation file at least a dozen times and always got the 1335 error. I tried just about all the "recommended solutions", but none of them worked for me. I downloaded the file through WellGet, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. The installation file downloaded through WellGet and Firefox had identical results (error at the same point in the installation "timeline", but the file downloaded through Internet Explorer errored at bit later, which seemed weird, but I guess different software runs differently (obviously!)...
During my lunchbreak at work, I downloaded the offline installation file (through Internet Explorer--my only option at work) and tried to install it when I got home. At first it seemed like it was going to work, as it didn't immediately pop up and say the Data1.cab was corrupted. However, at the end of the installation, I got a 1722 error, so I was disappointed.
Then I decided to try something that people always recommend, but I never do--disabling everything possible when installing something. I rebooted, disabled everything I could in my Systray (anything that had an Exit option in the menu--I didn't go wild and stop everything in Task Manager though...), and lo and behold, the installation went through the SDK, started installing the JRE, and I held my breath, hoping I didn't get a 1722 at the end. No 1722. It finally installed! Yay!
My theory is that either my firewall, anti-virus, or anti-spyware programs were messing up the downloading of the installation file. My workplace only has anti-virus and a hardware firewall. The fact that one download had a 1335 error and the other did not supports this theory. Or that maybe the file got corrupted by chance, but what are the odds I'd get a dozen corrupts in a dozen attempts? If one blames the source file at Sun as being corrupt, then no one would ever be able to install 1.5...
Another strong theory is that I needed to shut off all programs before installing. I'm not going to risk uninstalling my good install to test out that theory on my "corrupted" installation file, though... This could explain a dozen corrupts in a dozen attempts. If so, the file is not corrupt, but something is amiss in the OS environment.
It's feasible that someone could be stuck in a rut trying to download the same file through the same "pipeline" (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware) or stubbornly trying to bulldoze through an installation with their RAM chock full of unnecessary programs. It's too easy to just say "their" file is corrupt or Windows Installer is busted--I too was thinking along those lines...
Anyway, if you consistently get a 1335 error (or maybe other kinds of errors), try shutting down all non-essential programs in the Systray (and maybe in the Startup and Task Manager--although that wasn't necessary for me). If that doesn't work, download the installation file from another computer/source or get ahold of an installation file that has proven to work. These two options are possibly the easiest to try. If they don't work, then one'd have resort to the more esoteric fix-its...
On a side note, it was a bit scary having to shut off my firewall and anti-virus... I hope nothing got through in the two minutes they were down--I should have turned off my DSL modem...oh well.
Now, I have to test out my 1.5 install to see if it is really okay. If it's not, I'll post back and complain...haha -

We have about 1,800 workstations running Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit) running various versions of the Java JRE from 6 update 32 through 7 update 51. Most are on 6 update 45. We would like to standardize on Java 7 update 51 (32-bit) and get everyone updated to that version for security reasons.
For the past two weeks, we have been having trouble with our installation pre-pilot. What we are seeing is that our procedure successfully closes any open Internet Explorer windows and Java-related processes, uninstalls all old versions of the Java JRE, and then claims to have successfully installed Java 7 update 51. The Java Control panel works. We can even take Internet Explorer to Verify Java Version or Java Tester - What Version of Java Are You Running? and confirm that the Java applets on those sites are loading (though the latter only works after adding the site to the exceptions site list); however, when testers try to access our Kronos Workforce Central 6.3.10 system, the Java applets used by that system do not load.
We have tried the following things, none of which worked:
Clear Internet Explorer browser cache and cookies.
Clear the local Java cache.
Reboot the computer.
Reset Internet Explorer settings, including personal settings.
The one thing which does work is going into the Java Control Panel, going to the Security tab, unchecking "Enable Java content in the browser", pressing Apply, pressing OK on the pop-up window, checking the "Enable Java content in the browser" box again, pressing OK, pressing OK on the pop-up window, and then restarting Internet Explorer. It is only after this point that all Java applets, including the ones used by Kronos Workforce Central 6.3.10, work.
What I need to know is how I can automate the procedure of reinitializing the "Enable Java content in the browser" checkbox after installation or am I doing something wrong or missing a step in the automated installation that is causing this to happen?
We are using Microsoft SCCM 2007 R3 to accomplish this upgrade, and everything is being run on the client machine using the SYSTEM account. First, the PowerShell script "javaclean.ps1" is run, with part of the command-line process changing the PowerShell script execution policy to Bypass. This script handles the closing of Java-dependent applications and Java processes and uninstalls old Java versions.

Help on this issue would be much appreciated!It turns out that this is actually a problem with Kronos Workforce Central. We had the "site.java.plugin.CLSID.familyVersion" setting in that application set to "clsid:CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-FFFF-ABCDEFFEDCBA", which is the Java CLSID for Java 6. After updating this value to "clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" (the Java universal CLSID), this problem did not occur upon the automatic upgrade of Java.
We have both Java 6 and Java 7 in our environment, and did during our Kronos implementation, so I don't know why we were using the Java 6 CLSID in the first place.

We are doing OPSM 1.2 installation on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.6 [64-bit].
Steps we have done:
1. installed 11g db and created repositories for soa server.
2. installed weblogic server 10.3.6
3. Installed soa server & created two managed servers soa_server1 and pas_server1 in weblogic as per the doc " Oracle Pedigree and Serialization Manager Installation Guide"
4. And created required schemas in db for OPSM.
5. and ran $MW_ORA_HOME/common/bin/wlst.sh ./pasMasterInstall.py

Itunes 10.1 and above crashes when right-clicking any playlist entry?
trying to access the context menu in a playlist entry will bring the beach ball for a few seconds and forces itunes to quit unexpectedly. version 10.1 and above. on several machines (G5, intel)
here is what did not help:
– reinstalling 10.5.8 combo update
– reinstalling latest security updates (up to v007)
– reinstalling itunes 10.1.1 via installer instead of sw update
– deactivating all ore some quick time plug-ins
– system boot in safe mode
– log-in from a new created user account or as root
here is what helped so far - but is not satisfying:
– fresh install of 10.5.8 with all updates on a different volume
– switchback to v10.0.1
any suggestions??

itunes 10.1 and above is not compatible with openmenu X, up to current version 2.05. excluding itunes in the advanced tab solves the described problem. -
I accidentally deleted GarageBand on my MacBook Pro, version 10.6.8. The new version of GarageBand is only compatible with 10.9 and above. Is it possible to still get the older version? OR, can I get another copy of the startup CD that came with my computer so that I can reinstall GarageBand?
The new version of GarageBand is only compatible with 10.9 and above.
If your Mac can run MacOS X 10.6.8, it probably can be upgraded to Yosemite, if you don't have to stick to Snowleopard for other reasons.
Is it possible to still get the older version?
Amazon or eBay are still selling iLife '11 installer disks, and you could reinstall GarageBand from these DVDs. But it will be expensive.
Have you checked your backups, if you can restore GarageBand from a backup?
OR, can I get another copy of the startup CD that came with my computer so that I can reinstall GarageBand?
Sometimes the AppleStore Support will replace missing installer CDs for a fee. -

We're currently on JDeveloper 10.1.3.4.0.4270. We just release a new version of our web app into production. This is an internal web application. application server is weblogic 10. The weblogic log is showing alot of these warning messages. I tried search on this forum and in google but unable to find any information. I really appreciate if anyone has any idea what could be causing these warning. Our users are constantly getting sent back to the login page to to user sessions lost.

How to remove Java Applications from "Add and Remove Programs" list?
I have deployed my Java applications (both JWS and Applet) via JNLP with allow-offline option enabled and without installer-desc option specified.
My questions are:
1. An entry is added to the Add and Remove Programs list after launching the application via JNLP. Is it due to the specification of JNLP or JWS? Is there anyway to prevent this behavior?
2. I removed my application by clearing the cache via Java Control Panel but the entry for the application is still listed in Add and Remove Programs. How can I remove the entry in the Add and Remove Programs?
I have tried following methods but neither works:
1.Go to Add and Remove Programs, and click [remove] button to the right of my application.
*Warning message like 'Application cannot be uninstalled completely' is thrown.
2.Follow instructions listed @ [Microsoft Online Support site|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481/en-us] to remove my application manually via Windows registry.
*Couldn't find appropriate registry entry to delete.
