Java 1.6.0_22-b04 ParallelGC

Hi,
Has anyone had any nasty experience changing the Java JVM to java 1.6.0_22? I see there are some fixes to UseParallelGC garbage collector which CF uses by default. My testing has gone OK however I have not switched a production CF system from 1.6.0_21 (CF9.01 comes with 1.6.0_17).
Cheers, Carl.

That JVM version runs well for me.

Am encountering the following JVM problem on Solaris running Apache Tomcat with Atlassian Confluence. This problem DOES NOT occur on Windows XP or Windows Vista platforms running the same version of the JDK and same version of Apache Tomcat & Atlassian Confluence.
Any thoughts on what is causing this?

THIS IS A CORRECTED VERSION OF A POST THAT I ALREADY MADE. AS YOU READ THIS PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FIRST SET OF VERIFY PERMISSIONS THAT YOU SEE HAVE ALREADY GONE THRU THE REPAIR PROCESS BUT THEY REMAIN AFTER I REPAIRED THEM AND THEN VERIFIED THEM AGAIN.
NEXT YOU WILL SEE VERIFYING AFTER THE NEW JAVE 1.6.0_22 UPDATE FROM YESTERDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2010,
I VERIFIED, REPAIRED, VERIFIED, REPAIRED AND IT NEVER REPAIRS. EACH TIME IT SAYS REPAIRED I VERIFY IT AGAIN AND IT STILL SHOWS THE SAME ERRORS.
I AM NOT CONCERNED WITH THE ERRORS PRIOR TO THE UPDATE. I AM CONCERNED WITH THE ERRORS THAT I HAVE AFTER THE JAVA UPDATE.

ANY HELP IS MOST APPRECIATED AS APPLE SAYS IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AS IT IS 3RD PARTY SOFTWARE AND MY WARRANTY EXPIRES IN 5 DAYS SO I AM HOPING SOMEBODY OUT THERE CAN HELP ME.
AGAIN -- THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIDS MATTER.
    MARA

    Greetings William,
Not one of my errors is on that list!
I am more concerned about the ones that start with "User" then I am of the others.
The only reason that I ran the update is because of the errors that I had on the disk before the update came out yesterday.
I had called Apple last week about the original errors and was told that the new update would resolve my issues; however, as you can see not only did it NOT resolve the original errors but created several new ones!
Today I see that Apple is discontinuing use of Java!
Also, I have 5 days left on my 3 year warranty with Apple and now they are telling me it is not their problem as it is a third party software. I will do one more clean install and will not do the last Java update that I did yesterday.
In any case I appreciate your input and wish you well.
Again -- thank you for your attention to this matter.

  • Java 1.6.0_22 installs wrong version

Ok i am extremely disappointed with Patch Management. I pushed out what is labeled as Java 1.6.0_22 turns out i have over a 150 people calling me now because they cant get into our oracle app. It pushed out an ancient 3 year old version. Granted i didnt test on some machines before i pushed out but this is very frustrating.

  • Reaxys cannot find the Java applet, although I have Java 6 (build 1.6.0_22-b04) on the machine and it works with Firefox 3.6. Any suggestions? : (TypeError: applet.getVersion is not a function, function getVersion() { [native code] })

Reaxys (Research/Chemistry database) uses ChemAxon MarvinSketch (Java based editor). I have Java 6 update 22 on the machine and everything works fine under all older Firefox versions.

    Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,
    Nathan

  • Threading with Java 1.4.2_05-b04??

    Hi!
Could some please tell me that what has happened with the threading model on Java 1.4.2?? I mean, I have applications that has been developed with 1.3.1_b24, and everything worked OK. Now that I updated to this newer Java version 1.4.2_05-b04, my applications just dont seem to work, they crash instantly after the startup without throwing any exceptions. So everything SEEMS to go OK, but in fact nothing works! I used a profiler to solve things out, and noticed that there is a huge amount of deadlocks with my communication threads, and I really can't figure out why!!??
I haven't been able to find any documentation if there really is something new with this Java version. I would expect that if Sun has changed something important concerning threading, my application should not even compile with the new Java. Now anyway, all the code compiles ok, and don't even throw any errors, it just crashes..:=(
Could someone please give me a hint that what's wrong?? Does somebody have same kind of problems with Java 1.4.2??

    Hi,
Just as Peter said, you wouldn't need to do any changes at all if your application had been correctly implemented. The deadlocks is probably not a direct cause of the changes in the threading model, but rather a cause due to changes in the behaviour in the program. E.g. execution times could have decreased/increased in some methods, and that exposes a bug in your application. Do you always aquire the locks in the same order in all methods/classes?

  • JWS 6.0 update 22 uses stale cached JNLP from desktop link

With the latest Java 6.0 update 22 it appears that JWS is using the stale cached JNLP when launching from the desktop link after a JNLP update at the server.
Has anyone else experienced this issue with update 22?
For demonstration, I used the sample notepad application that I deployed for demonstration of a similar desktop link bug in update 17 (http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6921609) and I've traced the http requests from JWS. It appears that JWS simply doesn't request the JNLP to check for updates when launched from the desktop link.
I'll follow up with the bug id and a request for votes if accepted by the dev team.
    Thanks,
    Troy
Here are the steps to reproduce the issue using the sample app if anyone is interested.....
    1) Download the sample JWS application and allow the desktop link to be created - http://test.planwithvoyant.co.uk/voyant/launch/notepadAllPerm
    2) Inspect the desktop shortcut and notice the path to the JNLP cache entry
    3) Open the cached JNLP and take note of the timestamp included as an application argument as shown below:
         <argument>lastModified=Thu Oct 21 18:44:27 UTC 2010</argument>
    3) Modify the JNLP at the server. The following url updates the Last-Modified header for the sample Notepad app JNLP - http://test.planwithvoyant.co.uk/voyant/launch/setLastModified (disregard the forwarded request to a login screen)
    4) Run the application via the desktop link again now that the JNLP has been modified.
    5) Inspect the desktop shortcut again - notice that the path to the JNLP cache entry will remain unchanged.
    6) Inspect the cached JNLP again and notice that the timestamp in the application arguments is also unchanged.

I am experiencing the same issue with a recent deployment (Windows XP/Java 1.6.0_22-b04).
I notice the following sequence in the trace log:
    server running at port: 1340
    temp: connect to: https://www.sample.net/desktop-jnlp/launch.jnlp 1340
    network: Connecting socket://127.0.0.1:1340 with proxy=DIRECT
temp: no server is running - continue launch!
    network: prepareToLaunch: offlineOnly=false
network: Cache entry found [url: https://www.sample.net/desktop-jnlp/launch.jnlp, version: null] prevalidated=true/0
So, whatever internal "server" javaws uses doesn't appear to be available to handle the request for the JNLP file and it proceeds with the old version.
The behavior is confirmed after disabling all antivirus and firewall software.

  • 2.1.1 through 3.0EA - SQLDeveloper hangs after clicking on SQL tab of view

    Hi,
the following happens consistently both on SQL Developer 2.1.1.64 and 3.0.2.83 on Mac OS X and Java 1.6.0_22-b04-307 (64bit).
    1. I open a connection to an XE database
    2. I navigate to the Views node
    3. I select a view
    4. I click on the SQL sub-tab to display the DDL statement for the view
    5. As soon as i click on the tab to return to the SQL scratchpad for the open connection, the color wheel appears and SQL developer hangs and one must "force quit" the application.
As i said, this happens on both versions of SQL Developer
    Flavio
    http://oraclequirks.blogspot.com

Then it is clearly an issue with the TabSet component...
A couple of related postings (but not for creator) i ran into seemed to have been solved by setting jdk to 1.4.2 (and sometimes it is the ant version that seems to have been the problem):
    http://swforum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=103854&messageID=354068
Can u try setting the server's jdk to 1.4.2 and see if the problem goes away? (btw, the error happens at server and not in the ide, right?)

  • JWS 6 dynamic argument from cookie

Thanks in advance for helping me out.
We have an ASP page that generates a JNLP file. Inside the JNLP file generation portion, it creates an <argument> dynamically from a cookie that is the user's ID (a string):
    Response.Write " <argument>" & Request.Cookies("UserId") & "</argument>"
...This in turn gets passed to the main() method of the <application-desc> as an argument. In JWS 5, this works fine. However, in JWS 6, I get a BadFieldException. It looks like JWS did not look in the cookie and created an argument with no value:
    <argument></argument>
...Was there a change in JWS 6 to not allow you to read from a cookie to set an argument? Maybe a security thing? I don't set system properties now, but I could to work around this. Are system properties affected the same way?

I am experiencing the same issue with a recent deployment (Windows XP/Java 1.6.0_22-b04).
I notice the following sequence in the trace log:
    server running at port: 1340

  • Java 1.5.0 fix for Snow Leopard 10.6.5 broken in 10.6.6 -- Work around?

    Hello,
I, unfortunately, rely on several Java 1.5 programs still, and up until the 10.6.6 update, using the Leopard Java 1.5 worked just fine. However, I suspect the kernel was updated, and broke support, as now when I try to run Java 1.5 from the command line, I just get a bus error.
Has anyone found any way around this? I need Java 1.5 in order to run SPSS. We have a whole lab of Mac Pros that we would like to continue updating past 10.6.5, but cannot.
Below is the error report generated by the crash handler, as alerted to me by Console.

  • Java 6 not working on Mac OS X 10.5.8 on iMac8,1 intel Core 2 Duo

For some odd reason I cannot activate Java 6. I have installed all updates, up to Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 6, and the software update on the machine says that there are no further updates. Under Java preferences I have Java SE 6 64 bit on top, followed by J2SE 5.0 64-bit and then 32-bit, under plugins and under Java programs. I have also done the following:
    cd /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions
    sudo rm -fr CurrentJDK
    sudo ln -s 1.6 CurrentJDK
    Then I do java -version:
    java version "1.6.0_17"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04-248-9M3125)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.3-b01-101, mixed mode)
So Java 6 seems to be there. However, when I run Safari, it only seems to know about Java 1.5.0_22. And under Safari installed plugins, there is nothing above 1.5.0_22. No 1.6. And if I uncheck Java 5 under Java preferences, Safari does not find any Java at all.
So where did my Java 6 go?

I can't access Leopard Mac now, but if I remember correctly Safari in Leopard is 32bit and can only use 32bit plugins. If there is only 64bit Java6, then I guess Safari can't use it.

  • Unicode characters with accents won't display in Java Swing applications

I'm using FreeMind (a Java Swing application) and I need to enter classical Greek characters with accent marks. When I type an accented Greek character, FreeMind displays the unaccented character. However, I can type the accented character in MS Word, then copy and paste into FreeMind, the accented character appears.
One of the FreeMind developers indicated this was a Java Swing issue, not FreeMind, and suggested I test with another Swing application. So, I installed jEdit and got exactly the same results. I can paste an accented character into jEdit, but I cannot type it in directly.
I'm using Windows Vista with Java 6 Update 22 (build 1.6.0_22-b04). I also tested on a XP Pro box with Java 1.6.0_18-b07 and got the same result.
One other note: A couple days ago, I was able to type accented Greek characters into FreeMind. But it only worked for a couple days and then the behavior reverted to unaccented characters. It is possible, but I don't recall specifically, that I updated Java during the time and that may indicate a bug in one version of Java but not another.
Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
    Darin

    Walter,
The link you provided does not appear to describe the Greek Polytonic keyboard. (The page also describes using the "Option" key as the dead key. There is no "Option" key on my keyboard. I'm using a Sony VGN-NS140E purchased in Chicago, i.e. standard physical US keyboard.)
Please see http://darindavis.net/languages/keyboard_Greek.pdf for a detailed description of how to use the Greek (Polytonic) keyboard in Windows to produce a complete set of accented classical Greek characters. This method works in MS Word and Notepad. I enabled the Greek (Polytonic) keyboard with:
Windows (Vista) Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Change Keyboards > General > Add > Greek (Greece) > Greek Polytonic
A test that will demonstrate whether you can replicate the error is to do the following in both MS Word (or Notepad) and jEdit (or FreeMind):
    1. Enable the Greek Polytonic keyboard
    2. Type "\" then "e" which should produce an epsilon with smooth breathing and grave accent (ἒ)
When I do this in MS Word or Notepad, I see the epsilon with smooth breathing and grave accent. When I do this in jEdit and FreeMind, I only see an epsilon.
I recorded a screencast to illustrate the problem: http://www.screencast.com/t/TRKkKQrCgbN
Actually, this problem is transient. Sometimes FreeMind or jEdit will display accented characters, other times it won't. Ironically, the first time I recorded the above referenced screencast, a few characters in jEdit did appear with accents. A couple minutes later, I re-recorded the screencast and as you can see jEdit did not display the accents. Between the two recordings I literally did nothing other than stop the Jing recording and start a new one. There is another variable at play here and I can't determine what it is. The most likely source seems to be Java since MS Word and Notepad consistently display accent characters.
    Thanks,
    Darin

  • Queries on Mac OS X support for Java 1.3

    Hi All
I am having some trouble figuring out how to make Swing based Applets
work on Mac OS X. Can anybody help me ?
Queries on Mac OS X support for Java 1.3
    1) Will a Java Applet compiled using Java 1.3 run on "Mac OS X" without the need for a Plugin.? This includes Applets using Swing since we compiled using 1.3.
    2) I tried to run some Java 1.3 applets compiled using 1.3.1-04.
    Unfortunately, the Applets wouldn't run.
Is there some setting in Mac OS X that i need to change or modify for the Applet to work ?
    3) When i open a Terminal in Mac OS X and type Java -version, i get
    "------ Java 1.3---------".
This implies that Mac OS X supports the Java 1.3 SDK. Does it imply that it supports the runtime as well since this is usually the case ?.
If it supports the runtime, then does this inculde support for Swing.
Finally, as i enquired in '(1)' does this mean that i do not need any plugin(MRJ) to make Swing based applets work.
    Thanks and regards
    Prashanth

  • Question about Java Applet Jar file signing.

These questions pertain to Java 6 Standard Edition 1.6.0_22-b04 and later.

, and seek some clarification on the following related questions:
-In order to "escape" the java applet sandbox that exists around the client's
copy of the applet running in their web browser, ie.
(something forbidden by default), is verification of the signed applet enough, or is a policy file required
    to stipulate these details?
-using the policytool policy file generator, what do I need to add under "Principals"
(if anything) when dealing with a Java applet? Are Codebase and SignedBy simply author information?
-If I choose to use a java.security.Permission subclass object set up in equivalent fashion within the Applet,
which class within the Applet jar do I instantiate that object in? Does it need to be mentioned
in the applet's jar Manifest.MF file?
-Is the "keystore database" a java language service/process which runs in
the Server's memory and is simply accessed and started by default
by the client verifier program (appletview/web browser)?
-The public key certificate file (*.cer) is put in the webserver directory holding
the Applet jar file (ie. Apache Tomcat, for example).
-Presumably, the web browser detects the signed jar
and certificate file, and provides the browser pop up menu asking the user
about a new, non recognised certificate (initially).
    Is this so?
-With this being the case, can the applet now escape
the sandbox, be it with or without the stipulated
    policy permissions?
