  • Problem with java, ASCII and Linux

    Hi Friends,
    I has a Linux RedHat 9.0 with a jre1.5.0_04 (rpm package of Sun).
    I has a problem with ASCII , for example :
    import java.io.*;
    public class HolaMundo
    public static void main (String[] args)
    System.out.println("Hol Mndo");
    this programs runs ok on my windows jdk so it prints "Hol Mndo", but when i run the same HolaMundo.class program on my linux redhat it prints "Hol Mndo"
    I think the problem is with the ASCII table that uses the linux version of jre, but i dont know how to solve this problem. I need a Spanish-European ASCII table on my application but i think it is working with a US-ASCII table.
    Then i has installed a kaffe 1.0 (rpm) java machie on this linux and this solve the problem but i has another problems of compatibility with this old version of java kaffe.
    Do you know whats happening?
    Thanks in advance.

    The problem doesn't have to do anything with Java or Linux as far as i can see. It's more likely a problem with Windows XP and IE. Be assured that normally downloading the Linux JDK in windows is not a problem.

    Hello all!
    I have some problems with the MiniSAP installation under
    SUSE Linux 9.0.
    I use the MiniSAP WAS 6.10, SAP DB 7.3 and the SAP Gui for the JE 6.10.
    The Problem comes with the Java 1.4.1. In the documentation from the SAP CDs is the version IBMJava2-JRE-1.3-45 required.
    If I try to run the SapGui i get many errors from Java (I think).
    Anybody has a idea ?

    Hello,
    Just a quick question: can we have an official position from Sun regarding support of earlier releases of Solaris with Java RTS 2.1? Our customer is currently running Solaris 10 Update 3 with current Recommended patches, and the 2.1 beta cyclic driver supported this version of Solaris. However with the official release version of 2.1, support for U3 disappeared (only U4 and U5 are now supported). Aside from "rubber stamping" the Solaris build via /etc/release, is there a technical reason why U3 is no longer supported? As long as our kernel is up to date, can we safely use 2.1? Or is it just a case of being unable to officially support and test so many releases of Solaris?
    Is this a general rule-of-thumb we can expect in future: only supporting the last 2 updates of Solaris 10?
    Your advice is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave.

  • Fonts in java apps for win and linux

    Hi everyone.
    i need to build an application mult-plataform, to run in windows and linux...
    but i dont know waht font i must use...the default font that java takes doesnt exist in linux (dialog)...
    waht font should i use in my app??
    thanx

    For going multi-platform it is easiest to stick to the logical fonts: Fonts named "Serif", "SansSerif", "Monospaced", "Dialog", and "DialogInput".
    These fonts are guaranteed to exist on any platform, although their implementations may be different. If you use others then you'll have to figure out how to deal with cross platform issues.

  • Mozilla 1.4.2 and Java Applets on Linux

    Hello,
    Does anyone have clue as to why the newest version of java does not work on Mozilla -1.4.2 on linux.
    I went to java.com and downloaded the jre. Followed all the setup instructions TWICE. Still no java. I look in the help/plugins and see the flash plugins are working great but no java. It's enabled in the advanced preferences and I have the .so file in the plugins directory. Anybody have a clue???
    Thanks for any help in advance,
    -Wiley

    [root@localhost mozilla]# ./mozilla
    You're using the 'root' account to do normal work?????-------------------------------------------
    Yes I did do that when I su root to create a symbolic link. Maybe I strayed and installed something as root. That should not have corrupted my system.
    /usr/local/mozilla/plugins/java2/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.soThis was something I tried as last ditch efforts. THIS is the link that is created when in version 1.7 of mozilla you go to a page that has an applet. It gives you a download window that askes if you want to download the plugin. I'm using the LATEST version of java and this link does not exist obviously.
    Now I've given up on the "pop-up/ install applet plugin becuase it does not work." THIS IS THE LINK CREATED BY THE "INSTALL PLUGIN WINDOW in version mozilla 1.7 when you hit an applet page".... which I have removed it all becuase its worthless too.
    /usr/local/mozilla/plugins/java2/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so
    Also - The directions given on LINUX INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS on the http://www.java.com download page are worthless.
    I've gone in as a normal user not root and nothing works.
    this is where my link is....
    /usr/local/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so
    this is where it points to....
    <java-home>/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so
    this is how it was created in the mozilla plugins directory
    ln -s <java-home>/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/local/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so
    If you look at the installation instructions again, I have followed them to a T.
    these are the errors associated with the worthless"Download Plugin option" which has been removed and I'm back to creating the symlink manually again which does not work.
    libXext.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    This sounds like you may be missing some important software libraries or that they are too old. Which >distro are you using?
    If you have only recently installed them you may need to run "ldconfig" so that the runtimelinker can find >them. It should NOT be this big of a headache when I recently installed redhat enterprise 3 workstation - then I updated the system with the "updates" option for redhat that downloads all recent and available updates.
    installed the jre - then I tried to see an applet in mozilla. Thats it.
    IT DOES NOT WORK. If it works for someone out there with the latest JRE and mozilla-1.4.2 or 1.7 thats great but I can't seem to figure why I can't get it to work........
    thanks,
    -Wiley

    Which Java version are you trying to install? The version of Mozilla you use doesn't matter, although I think 1.6 is quite a bit faster than 1.4. I haven't bothered to upgrade to 1.7, I'll upgrade to 1.8 when it's released ...
    The j2sdk comes with several libjavaplugin_oji.so files for different configurations. To which one does the link in the plugins dir point?
    With 1.4.2 the link must be to <java-home>/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so
    With 1.5.0 beta 2 <java-home>/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

  • WebObjects Java Client-JNLP fine on OS X and Linux, Windows problem

    Hi,
    I have been making a somewhat fruitful exploration into WebObjects Java Client development in order to get my nice IB interfaces for prototypes functional and deployed in a cross platform environment.
    I have made some good strides in figuring out the semi-documented process of Java/IB integration, and how to build (including adding external libraries) and deploy onto a server (if anyone else is interested I will share; perhaps a blog is deserved), and though I am able to run it from both Mac OSX and Linux clients on the network (the Linux interface currently looks like garbage but will work on that), when I try to run it on windows I immediately get the following error tab in General:
    An error occurred while launching/running the application.

    It looks to me like the problem is with trying to rename the directory to a name with multiple periods, which works on UNIX but not on Windows. Is this a familiar problem? Is there any workaround/solution or any intent to fix?

  • Why we have separate azure java SDK for linux and windows

    I saw different links for downloading azure java SDK for linux and windows.
    What difference does it actually have when java is platform independent? Or both are same jars?

  • Differences on Windows and Linux JVM about java.util.zip package

    Hello, there!
    I need some help if someone else has already face this problem.
    I have a Java server that process the bytes of a SWF File stored in the server and ouptut it to the user through a Servlet. The file was decompressed and re-compressed using the java.util.zip package (Deflater/Inflater).
    Everything works fine on Windows Server 2008 server. But now we need to migrate the server to Linux. The problem is that when I test the website now, the file seens to be corrupted.
    What really intrigues me is that everything runs normal on Windows Server configuration, when changed to Linux, the final file seens to be corrupeted... what could possible be the cause? Is there any difference between java.util.zip package on Window and Linux JVM?
    My Windows Server is:
    . Windows Server 2008 (6.0 - x86)
    . Apache 2.2.11
    . Tomcat 6.0.16.0
    . Java JDK 1.6.0_12-b04
    My CentOS Server is
    . CentOS 5.4 (2.6.18-164.15.1.el5 - i386)
    . Apache 2.2.3
    . Tomcat 6.0.16.0
    . Java JDK 1.6.0_12-b04
    Please, if someone could give me a lead, I would appreciate very much!
    Thank you all in advance,

    Thank you for the answer, but no. The path is correct.That's not what he meant. Zip file/directory entries are supposed to use / as the path separator. It is possible to use \ but such Zip files will only work under Windows. You may have erred here.Ohhh, I had really missunderstood what Ray said. But, I still think that this is not the problem, since the ZIP is a single SWF file generated by Flex SDK 3.4 and compressed in the ZLIB open standard (as in page 13, at [http://www.adobe.com/devnet/swf/pdf/swf_file_format_spec_v9.pdf|http://www.adobe.com/devnet/swf/pdf/swf_file_format_spec_v9.pdf] ). This is how Flash Compiler compress the files.
    jschell wrote:
    If the above suggestions do not solve the problem...Specify in detail with the exact steps used how you determined that it was corrupted.The reason why I believe the SWF is getting corrupted is that when it is loaded by Flash Player (in the client-side) the Player throws a VerifyError: Error # 1033. The [documentation says (see error 1033)|http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS3LCR/Flash_10.0/runtimeErrors.html] that this error means that the SWF file is corrupted.
    As I said, what intrigues me is that this work perfectly in a Windows Server 2008 server. I just had setup a CentOS server and deployed the application. The client-remains unchanged, so why could the result change?
    raychen wrote:
    I would remove the side effect you are doing and send the file straight through, with decompress and compress, the servlet. It is more likely that you have a bug in your swf processor than the zip library.
    I had already tried it when first coding, in Windows Server 2008, it had not worked.
    Thank you all for the help.

  • Executing WINWORD from both Windows and linux using Java

    Dear All,
    I have a problem when trying to use Runtime class to execute a winword document. My code is as follows.
    Runtime r= Runtime.getRuntime();
    try{
    r.exec("rundll32"+" "+"url.dll,FileProtocolHandler"+" "+"WINWORD"+ " "+"file://C://welkom.doc");
    catch(Exception ex){
    System.out.println("Unable to open the doc file:"+ex);
    When I execute this swing application with the above, the program is unable to open the specific file. And it says "Problem with the short cut, unable to open the file". When I run the program without the file name, it opens a new doc file.
    Attn: what I want to do here is I need to open the winword file from both windows and linux. So I cannot use the relative path of the WINWORD.exe file.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Bala

    If you take a look at the api, there's an exec(String[]) method. This is the one you should use when calling a command with multiple parameters.
    so something like...
    String[] cmd = new String[] {"rundll32", "url.dll,FileProtocolHandler", "WINWORD", "file://C://welkom.doc"}
    r.exec(cmd);

    Hello Ishan,
    The J2EE server is not starting because of the error in A. Please refer to note 965451 for solution.
    The warnings in part B are insignificant. The startup framework has list with profile parameters and when a parameter is not in the list complains with warning. This warning doesn't mean that the parameter is wrong!
    The jcontrol is the parent process of the server process and if the server process dies you will always get error message there.

  • Sapinst fails in Linux SUSE

    Hi,
    I'm completely new to Linux. Yesterday I installed a Linux Suse 10 and now I wanted to install a Netweaver 7.0 with SR3.
    I installed the Java JDK IBM 1.4.2. and seems ok because comand "java -version" works fine.
    I have copied the master CD into a file in my Desktop.
    With the terminal I go to the location where I have the sapinst file and when I run the comand "./sapinst" I'm getting the following error
    iaextract.c:439:  Error opening archivefile /root/Desktop/sapcd/BS_2005_SR3_SAP_Installation_Master/IM_LINUX_X86_64/./sapinst
    Anyone has an idea of what could be the reason or where to look in search of clues?
    Any help appreciated and points awarded.
    Thanks,
    Alberto Sabate

    There is also another thing that I don't understand. If I execute sapinst I get the error that I meantioned earlier in the thread.
    However if I execute startinstGui.sh the SAPinst GUI windows appears and the terminal displays:
      Java Runtime found in JAVA_HOME environment variable
      Path: /usr/lib64/jvm/java/bin/java
    Start mode: gui (GUI only)
    Connection parameters:

      GUIServer port: 21212
    Starting...
    <<< frog.jar: version 5.4.5  10/19/05  sap.theme: null >>>
    Unfortunately the sapinstGUI windows also delivers the message
    Could not connect to host localhost on port 21212. java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused
    But again as I said earlier I'm completely new to Linux so most probably there is something obvious that I haven't done.
