Java 5 on Sun Java AppServer7??
Did anyone try that yet?
Not supported (and probably will not be).
AS 8 2004Q4 (aka 8.1) is coming out with JDK 1.5.0 support later this year.

Mapping to database views, S1S4u1 and Sun ONE AppServer7
Does anyone know how to use S1S4u1 to map a CMP to a database view?
I'm currently using Sun ONE AppServer 7 linked to a SQL Server. I have some views on the database that I want to create CMPs to map to. Is this a wrong idea? 'Cause I cannot find a way to generate my CMP against the dbschema I captured using the IDE, nor can I find a way to map it to the view during deploy time using the IDE -- even if I had worked around in creating the CMP. All there is in the IDE is to map to the table. Where can I do it from the IDE? Or is there anywhere that says that I should not use CMP against database views?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Huachun

Java Studio Enterprise 8 and mail.jar
I have a problem with the mail.jar file being locked after a method is instantiated that actually sends a message (and invokes the mail.jar, activiation.jar, etc.) This is problematic because I can't redepoy an application from the Java Studio Enterprise 8 IDE to the application server without shutting down and restarting the application server. I have the latest versions as of today (7/26/2006) of the mail.jar and activation.jar archives. I've done everything I can think of to ensure that all references to java objects created as part of the mail send process are nullified and even called the System.gc() method to ask the JVM to clean things up. Still, the mail.jar is locked upon redeploy (I can tell because all other files, classes, web component, etc. are gone from the deploy directory except the mail.jar file, which is locked even from Operating System access.)
I'm using:
Sun Java(TM) Studio Enterprise 8 (Build 051011_2)
IDE/1 spec-5.9.1 impl=200507031930
Windows 2000 version 5.0 runningo n x86
Java 1.5.0_04
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 1.5.0_04-b05
Any ideas on how to fix this locking problem with mail.jar?

1) Stopped the server.
2) Cleared out the server.log file (deleted it).
3) Started the server.
4) Deployed the application.
5) Ran the application code such that it sends an e-mail using the Transport.send(message) code.
6) Tried to redeploy the application (which won't because the mail.jar file is locked up).
Here's the server.log file after all that happened....

The most reliable solution would be to remove all spaces from your path before starting the Appservers components. |#]

Remote Interface problem using Sun ONE App & web server
HI,
1) I am using an S'less SB. I have local & remote interfaces. I am using the sun one appserver7 & the sun ones's htttp server. By default it doesnt pick up the remote interfaces is it ? How do i make my remote interfaces work ? what are the changes required in config/xml ?
2) However i changed my client code (i.e my action class which is called by the struts action servlet ) to access the localhome rather than the remote home, but then i get java.lang.classcastexception.
pls help !
sanjayHi parsuram,
Thanks for the tip. After looking at the sample source code, I did finally figure out the solution - so I'll post it in case anyone else happens to be working with websphere studio has the same issue deploying on sun one.
To access local interface ejb, you must have the following
1. ejb-local-ref tag in the ejb-jar.xml like so underneath the <session> or <entity> tag of the bean which you plan to access the local ejb with.
<ejb-local-ref>
<ejb-ref-name>TestL</ejb-ref-name>
<ejb-ref-type>Session</ejb-ref-type>
<local-home>memory.simple.TestLLocalHome</local-home>
<local>memory.tool.simple.TestLLocal</local>
<ejb-link>TestL</ejb-link>
</ejb-local-ref>
2. similar ejb-ref tag in sun-ejb-jar.xml
<ejb-ref>
<ejb-ref-name>TestL</ejb-ref-name>
<jndi-name>localejbs/module_memory.betaEJB/TestL68640023372300293</jndi-name>
</ejb-ref>
note: sun generates the <jndi-name> and overwrites whatever you put in that tag no matter what you put in there.
3. here is the code to access
Context initial = new InitialContext();
TestLLocalHome tlHome=(TestLLocalHome) Initial.lookup
("TestL");
//the string must match <ejb-ref-name> underneath <ejb-local-ref>
4. note that the jndi name for the local interface bean becomes irrelevant. only the <ejb-ref-name> in the ejb-jar and sun-ejb-jar matter. furthermore, both <ejb-ref-name> must be the same or you won't be able to deploy.
5. This is completely my fault for not checking the "proper" way to access local interfaces. in websphere, they let you get away without the ejb-ref tags and just use the string "local:/TestL"!

Maybe it is better to continue on the first topic ?

Eclipse: Ant: sun-appserv-deploy, not working, help please.
Hello,
Trying to use Eclipse: Ant to deploy using the build.xml to localhost. I have the following target in my Ant build.xml file, but it's not picking up the <sun-appserv-deploy> tag.
I have the following file is the Ant classpath:
C:\Sun\studio5u1_se\appserver7\lib\ant\lib\jakarta-ant-1.4.1-optional.jar.
I'm not asking for Eclipse configuration or Ant help, but what .jar file(s) do I need and where do they have to be for Ant to recognize the <sun-appserv-deploy> tag?The sun-appserv-deploy tasks are defined in the sun-appserv-ant.jar (which I think is in C:\Sun\studio5u1_se\appserver7\lib on your machine).
Check the ant documentation for instructions on integrating tasks into your environment.

"system cannot find the path specified" error when deploying EAR
I am trying to deploy a J2EE based web service created in Sun Studio 5 to the SunOne AS 7.0.
I get an error saying "The system cannot find the path specified". I have followed the deployment instructions as closely as possible I think.
When I look in the file system for the file the system is trying to find, the whole directory it seems to be looking for (C:\Sun\studio5_se\appserver7\domains\domain1\server1\applications\j2ee-apps\PostCodeLookupApp_1)
is missing. (In fact there is nothing in the j2ee apps directory).
Got any ideas? Have I missed something?
Thanks for any help,
Nick

the auto-generated file name seems to have been too long for the app-server.
I changes the name of the class to PCWS and it worked fine.

War incompabilities with SOA 7 Platform edition?
Hi,
I am beggining to try Sun One App server 7 Platform edition.
I developed a small web application to try database connections with pool and without pool. So I created the application in Netbeans to connect to an AS400 and worked OK with Tomcat.
Also I installed Eclipse 2.12 and Resin and also everything went OK.
When I get to SOA7, I created the connection pool, then the jdbc resources and finally the web app which I imported as a WAR file.
But it seems that the server need some files in the /j2ee-modules/appname directory and others in docroot/appname.
I thought that the server admin takes care of everything and the app will be correctly deployed as any j2ee server I tried.
Can you help me? Thanks
BTW I included at the end of the message, the error appeared in the console.
Thanks you so much,
Lorenzo Jimnez

I have deployed two web modules, one for the jsp's and one for the servlet. I have no problem calling up the jsp's.
I am getting the following message when the jsp tries to call the servlet via post.
[24/May/2004:16:00:58] WARNING ( 344): for host 127.0.0.1 trying to POST /BillerWeb/BillerMaintServlet, send-file reports: HTTP4142: can't find C:/Sun/studio5u1_se/appserver7/domains/domain1/server1/applications/j2ee-modules/BillerWeb_4/BillerMaintServlet (File not found)
The problem is that BillerMaintServlet is not in BillerWeb module or folder, whatever it is looking in.
The context_root for the jsp's is set to /BillerWeb, but the context root for the servlet is set to /BillerServletModule.
Does anyone know why it is looking there for my servlet or how to fix this problem?
Thanks.What exactly method do you use to call your servlet?
You know almost all methods work with URLs relative to the servlet/JSP root.
For example this is from PageContext.include() documentation:
public abstract void include(java.lang.String relativeUrlPath)
if the relativeUrlPath begins with a "/" then the URL specified is calculated relative to the DOCROOT of the ServletContext for this JSP. If the path does not begin with a "/" then the URL specified is calculated relative to the URL of the request that was mapped to the calling JSP. -

Setting Up To Build and Deploy Tutorial Examples
J2EE Tutorial page 113
You must configure your environment
and the tutorial properties files as follows:
 Add<JAVA_HOME>/bin to the front of your path.
path=C:\j2sdk1.4.2\bin;......
 Add<J2EE_HOME>/bin and <J2EE_HOME>/share/bin to the front of your
path so that J2EE 1.4 Application Server components overrides other
installations.
path=C:\j2sdk1.4.2\bin;C:\j2sdkee1.3.1\bin;C:\Sun\studio_5\appserver7\bin;
C:\Sun\studio_5\appserver7\share\bin;......
Note: the appserver 7 directory structure has a share\bin NOT J2EE_Home!
 Set the j2ee.home property in the file <INSTALL>/j2eetutorial14/
examples/common/build.properties to the location of your J2EE 1.4
Application Server installation. The build process uses the j2ee.home
property to include the J2EE library archives in the classpath. The J2EE
library archive is the file <J2EE_HOME>/lib/j2ee.jar. If you wish to use
an IDE or the javac compiler to compile J2EE applications, you must add
this JAR to your classpath.
Now, the j2ee.home property is not the home of j2ee but the location of the
appserver 7???
The file <J2EE_HOME>/lib/j2ee.jar is not in th appserver 7 directory.
The file <J2EE_HOME>/lib/j2ee.jar is in C:\j2sdkee1.3.1\lib\j2ee.jar
I have a j2re 1.4.1, an j2sdkee1.3.1 and j2sdk1.4.2.
