Java 8 JRE Embedded + JavaFX on ARM SFP :: How to flip screen

Hi all,
How can I flip my screen without using rotate function of my root panel?
We have an embedded device where the screen is rotated -90°. Then on my root panel I do setRotate(-90); it is OK but when entering a textfield, the embedded virtual keyboard shows not rotated.
I'm using the java property -Djavafx.platform=directfb so not using X11.
Thanks!
M

Using the package manger in your Linux distribution, try installing libX11 package. We had a similar issue using Java SE 8 embedded on arch Linux as with some distros you are starting from the bare basics and need to add in missing dependencies.

    Hello,
    Just a quick question: can we have an official position from Sun regarding support of earlier releases of Solaris with Java RTS 2.1? Our customer is currently running Solaris 10 Update 3 with current Recommended patches, and the 2.1 beta cyclic driver supported this version of Solaris. However with the official release version of 2.1, support for U3 disappeared (only U4 and U5 are now supported). Aside from "rubber stamping" the Solaris build via /etc/release, is there a technical reason why U3 is no longer supported? As long as our kernel is up to date, can we safely use 2.1? Or is it just a case of being unable to officially support and test so many releases of Solaris?
    Is this a general rule-of-thumb we can expect in future: only supporting the last 2 updates of Solaris 10?
    Your advice is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave.

  • Upgrade JRE Embedded 7 to  JRE Embedded 8

    Hello,
    I want to upgrade my JRE Embedded 7 to JRE Embedded 8. But the configuration of my embedded target is this:
    -  Linux version 2.6.26-394-gf56b72e (g179270@rmm-p1188725fl) (gcc version 4.1.2) #1 PREEMPT Mon Sep 8 11:42:46 CEST 2014
    - Processor:  ARM926EJ-S rev 4 (v5l)
    - ldd (GNU libc) 2.5
    I saw in the Oracle Java SE embedded system requirements page that the JRE for "Java SE Embedded 8 Headless on ARM EABI, Little-Endian, Linux" is
    installable only if my embedded platform meets these requirements:
    - Linux: kernel 2.6.28 or higher; glibc 2.9 or higher
    Question: Can i upgrade to java 8 with my current setup and how can i achieve it ?
    Thank you.

    My organization is experiencing very similar problems.  We have resolved it through several steps.
    We upgraded the client to Java 8 and we saw in the console that the hanging connection with the Domain Controller no longer occurs.  This may be all that is necessary for your environment as well.

  • Why Oracle dropped support of JavaFX on ARM devices?

    Why Oracle dropped the support of JavaFX on ARM devices? Release note: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/jdk-8u33-arm-relnotes-2406696.html
    Im studing JavaFX for a commercial project with Raspberry, but, this news changed everything.

    I am asking the same question, and I am very disappointed with the lack of communication from ORACLE.
    I have spent a lot of time to learn JavaFX from 1.1 version and I was very enthusiastic about the new start of JavaFX 2.0 and the "promises" that came with it.
    And today, after 2 years, the only thing we can do seriously with JavaFX is building a desktop application !
    - Building a Web application is theoretically possibly but is a mess in the real world (JRE version, plugin, certificate, ...)
    - Building an application for the mobile world is not completed yet. It remains a lot of work, and no roadmap can give us a vision of the future. Moreover, with politics and courts problems between Oracle and Google and Apple, future of JavaFX is opened to doubt.
    - And now if ARM support is dropped ...
    The only way that remains partially clear is that JavaFX will replace Swing. But that would be a big waste and an enormous disappointment if it was the case.
    If only Oracle could communicate on its strategies ...
    During this time, in a parallel world, Javascript, HTML, and CSS are growing and eating all the devices ...
    Best regards

  • Java 8 SE Embedded download - which version for my RPi?

    One thing I struggle with is knowing which download for my RPi.
    I keep reading I should use the hard floating point version.  That said, here's the only Java 8 SE Embedded version I see with HardFP:  ARMv7 Linux - VFP, HardFP ABI, Little Endian1
    On my RPi, here's the output from "uname -a"
    > Linux bsrpi 3.10.34+ #661 PREEMPT Thu Mar 27 00:36:02 GMT 2014 armv6l GNU/Linux
    Will the HardFP version on the download page work on my RPi?   It appears to be arm6.
    The only thing I see available with ARMv6 is:  ARMv6/7 Linux - VFP, SoftFP ABI, Little Endian2
    If you have the answer or even refer me to a good site that explains the differences, I'd be very grateful.  If not, I'll just keep pulling out my hair!  :-)
    Thanks for any help you have,
    Brent Stains

    I received help from Stephen Chin on this!  Thank you Steve.  You can see his excellent work here:  Steve On Java
    I also found some information from Hinkmond Wong's blog:  https://blogs.oracle.com/hinkmond/entry/even_quicker_guide_to_install
    I'm pasting a modified version of the conversation and information here for other wandering souls!
    METHOD 1 - download & deploy, options for compact profiles
    Most Raspberry Pi distributions have been hard float for a while...  To check, look for the following file:
    /lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf
    If this exists, you are running hard float.
    Once you have your Pi on a hard float build, grab the latest Java 8 from here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html
    Grab the first one titled "jdk-8-linux-arm-vfp-hflt.tar.gz"
    For doing compact profile work to learn how SE Embedded is used (and compact profiles work) go to the downloads on this page:  http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/downloads/java-embedded-java-se-download-359230.html
    and start with this one:  ejdk-8-fcs-b132-linux-arm-vfp-hflt-03_mar_2014.tar.gz   (ARMv7 Linux - VFP, HardFP ABI, Little Endian)
    then use jrecreate to shrink it.
    METHOD 2 - use apt-get on the Raspberry Pi, full "embedded" version of the JDK
    From Linux command line >> sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-jdk
    Note:  see Hinkmond's blog post and an excellent explanation in the comments section on the meaning of SE Embedded
    Enjoy!

  • Install Java SE for embedded

    Hello,
    I am trying to install Java SE for Embedded 7 ARM v6/7 Linux Headless on my Pogoplug ARM v6 running Linux Arch.
    For this I downloaded the .tar.gz file from Oracle's website ( version=7u4-armv6-eabi-k2.6.28-libc2.9-hflt-le), applied the tar command to decompress, moved the result to /opt/java, adapted the enironment variables by editing the /etc/profile file as follows:
    PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/opt/java/bin"
    export PATH
    export JAVA_HOME="/opt/java"
    export PATH="opt/java/bin:$PATH"
    when running an application that needs JAVA, I get:
    17015 Illegal instruction     java -Declipse.ignoreApp=true -Dosgi.noShutdown=true -Djetty.port=8080 -Djetty.port.ssl=8443 -Djetty.home=. -Dlogback.configurationFile=logs/logback.xml -Dfelix.fileinstall.dir=addons -Djava.library.path=lib -Djava.security.auth.login.config=./etc/login.conf -Dorg.quartz.properties=./etc/quartz.properties -jar $cp $* -console
    I assume Java is not installed correctly (it is the first time I install manually)?

    I see the same error for my ARM9 from Atmel. I think it's because my ARM9 AT91SAM9263 processor is ARMv5TEJ and ejre1.6.0 require ARMv6 or above. Don't mix up ARM9 and ARMv6. It's different thing.

  • Embedding JavaFX v1.2 Scene's in Swing

    Before I start... SUN DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS AND IT IS LIKELY TO CHANGE... hopefully we get official support in a future release, please :)
    +"Note: We also recognize the need for the inverse (embedding a JavaFX scene into a Swing app), however that is not supported with 1.2 as it requires a more formal mechanism for manipulating JavaFX objects from Java code. The structure of these JavaFX objects is a moving target (for some very good reasons) and we're not ready to lock that down (yet). However,as with most software, this can be hacked (see Rich & Jasper's hack on Josh's blog) but know that you are laying compatibility down on the tracks if you go there. "+ Source: http://weblogs.java.net/blog/aim/archive/2009/06/insiders_guide.html
    But if you really really want this now read on.
    After a lengthy investigation and some help from others (including the jfxtra's project) here is how to Embed a JavaFX scene in your Swing application:
    First, start your java application with javafx and not java! This will fix any potential class path issues and really does solve a lot of issues you will have 'patching' the JVM with JavaFX (if that is even possible). JavaFX will happily run a Java project (with the JVM) even if there is not one JavaFX class in your project.
    Next, you need to create a Java Interface for your JavaFX object to implement:
    package mix.javastuff;
    * This is a Java Interface that your JavaFX class should implement.
    * This will define how Java will interact with your JavaFX class.
    * @author ahhughes
    public interface TextDisplay {
        public void setText(String text);
    }Next, you need to create your JavaFX object... it must extend Scene and you are to provide any interaction with Java you will need to implement a java interface:
    package mix.javafxstuff;
    import mix.javastuff.TextDisplay;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.scene.text.Text;
    import javafx.scene.text.Font;
    import javafx.scene.effect.Reflection;
    import javafx.scene.text.TextOrigin;
    * Here is a very simple scene, that implements a java interface
    * That allows Java (or JavaFX) to setText on the Scene's content.
    public class TextDisplayJavaFXScene extends Scene , TextDisplay {
        override public function setText(text:String):Void{
            content = Text {
                    font : Font {size: 44}
                    x: 0, y: 0
                    textOrigin: TextOrigin.TOP
                    content: text
                    effect: Reflection {}
    }Finally, you need to use some reflection and some under the hood magic to get your JavaFX object and wrap in in a SwingScene (which just so happens to extend JComponent).
    package mix.javastuff;
    import com.sun.javafx.tk.swing.SwingScene;
    import java.awt.FlowLayout;
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
    import javafx.reflect.FXClassType;
    import javafx.reflect.FXContext;
    import javafx.reflect.FXFunctionMember;
    import javafx.reflect.FXLocal;
    import javafx.reflect.FXLocal.ObjectValue;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javax.swing.JButton;
    import javax.swing.JComponent;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    import javax.swing.JTextField;
    * Example of how to inject JavaFX into your Swing app.
    public class Main {
        private static final FXLocal.Context context = FXLocal.getContext();
        private static TextDisplay textDisplayJavaFXScene;// javafx scene & java interface
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            //Get the JavaFX Object, that has 'extends Scene, SomeJavaInterface'
         FXClassType instanceType = context.findClass("mix.javafxstuff.TextDisplayJavaFXScene");
         ObjectValue objectInstance = (ObjectValue) instanceType.newInstance();
         textDisplayJavaFXScene = (TextDisplay) objectInstance.asObject();
            //Wrap this in a SwingScene using refection
            JComponent textDisplayJavaFXSwingScene = sceneInstanceToJComponent((Scene)textDisplayJavaFXScene);
            //Now let's show the JComponent+JavaFXScene in a simple Swing App.
            createSimpleSwingApp(textDisplayJavaFXSwingScene);
         * This method wraps the Scene with a JComponent. This is what you can add
         * to your Swing application.
         * @param scene the JavaFX object that extends javafx.scene.Scene.
         * @return the javafx.scene.Scene wrapped by a JComponent.
         public static JComponent sceneInstanceToJComponent(Scene scene) {
             FXClassType sceneType = FXContext.getInstance().findClass("javafx.scene.Scene");
             ObjectValue obj = FXLocal.getContext().mirrorOf(scene);
             FXFunctionMember getPeer = sceneType.getFunction("impl_getPeer");
             FXLocal.ObjectValue peer = (ObjectValue) getPeer.invoke(obj);
             SwingScene swingScene = (SwingScene)peer.asObject();
             return (JComponent) swingScene.scenePanel;
         * OK, this method is just to show you this in action.... the real stuff
         * you are interested is in the methods above.
         * @param javaFXTextDisplaySwingScene
        private static void createSimpleSwingApp(JComponent javaFXTextDisplaySwingScene){
             JFrame frame = new JFrame();
             frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
             frame.setSize(500,500);
             frame.setAlwaysOnTop(true);
              JPanel panel = new JPanel();
              panel.setLayout(new FlowLayout());
            //create a swing interface to interact with textDisplayJavaFXScene.setText()
            final JTextField textInputField = new JTextField("Set THIS Text!");
              panel.add(textInputField);
              JButton button = new JButton("Send to JavaFX!");
              panel.add(button);
              button.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                   @Override
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                        textDisplayJavaFXScene.setText(textInputField.getText());
            //add the JavaFX SwingScene to the Swing's JPanel
             panel.add(javaFXTextDisplaySwingScene);
            //display the swing app
             frame.add(panel);
             frame.setVisible(true);
    }That's it!

    Hi morningstar, this article is good and it too helped me out A LOT! It shows how to embed a JavaFX scene in swing but doesn't show you how to interact with JavaFX objects FROM your Java/Swing code. Wrapping the JavaFX node in a SwingScene doesn't offer a way for the Java/Swing code to interact with the underlying JavaFX objects.
    How can you set the text in the JavaFX Text node from the Java/Swing code in the linked article? You can't, all you can do is have the JavaFX objects reference BACK to public static fields in your Java code (not the best):
    Java Class:
    public class JavaFXToSwingTest extends JFrame {
        public static JTextField tf = new JTextField("JavaFX for SWING");
        //other code
    JavaFX Class:
        text = JavaFXToSwingTest.tf.getText();  On the other hand, the code in the first post exposes the JavaFX objects through java interfaces as well as wrapping them in a SwingScene. This means that you can do YourJavaFXObject.setText("Blah"); from inside your Java/Swing code, rather handy! :)

              If the processor of your development board  is the cortex-M3 core, I think you do not have to buy keil board. Now, there are a lot of OS and emulator suitable for Cortex-M3.
              Operating system I am referring to  is the real time operating system such as keil RTX,uCOS,FreeRTOS,CooCox CoOS and so on. CooCox CoOS is very new, you can get more information from http://coocox.org/ .
              Emulator or debugging tools such as ULINK2,st-link,Jlink,CooCox Colink and so on. CooCox Colink is also very new.  You can download the Colink Plugin from here Colink Plugin .

  • Re: [Fwd: Java Applet IIOP Call-In with Release 3C--How dowe speed up d

    Hi Michael,
    We have done exactly what you describe and have avoided the slow applet
    download times. Although it can be a bit tricky, it is possible to use
    the ORB bundled inside the Netscape 4.0 browser (Visibroker for Java by
    Visigenic). Most of the code should follow Netscape's examples (on
    http://developer.netscape.com)--just remember to initialize the ORB by
    passing a reference to the current applet in orb_init() (so that you
    invoke something like orb_init(this) [assuming you are extending
    java.applet.Applet]). Pulling up the Java console within your web
    browser should help debug quite a bit (a lot of debug messages will get
    printed there the ORB is having problems).
    Netscape has just implemented the applet caching schemes you describe,
    so it probably shouldn't matter too much if you use another vendor's
    ORB (we've done this with Iona's OrbixWeb). If you use ZIP files, they
    have to be uncompressed, and I don't think that the browser will cache
    them between browser sessions. Netscape 4.0 does seem to handle
    compressed JAR files just fine and it does indeed cache them between
    browser sessions. I'd go with the JAR format anyway since the ZIP
    bundling was just a workaround until Sun got their act together in the
    1.1 JDK.
    By the way, you also might want to take advantage of the code-signing
    and capabilities APIs of Netscape if you are going to invoke methods on
    objects not resident on your web server. Otherwise, you will probably
    run into the (in)famous browser applet security restrictions and you may
    have other problems doing things like callbacks from Forte, etc.
    If you want more detail on how it works, let me know and I can post some
    examples.

    of things :)

    Subject: Java Applet IIOP Call-In with Release 3C--How do we speed up download time.
    Date: Wed, 2 Jul 1997 09:10:31 -0500
    From: Michael Nelson <[email protected]>
    To: "'[email protected]'" <[email protected]>
    We have successfully implemented a simple Java Applet that calls into
    Forte Services via IIOP. However, the duration of the download time
    for
    Applet and its required class files is UNACCEPTABLE in a typical
    INTERNET environment where 28.8K modems and multiple hops around the
    net
    are not uncommon. We dialed into our network at 28.8K (but no
    hopping),
    and found that download times varied from 1.5 - 2.0 minutes. This is
    unacceptable, even by internet standards. We have been using the
    Visigenic Visibroker product as the ORB.
    After doing some investigation, we've come up with several ideas to
    speed up download time:
    1. Figure out how to use the Visigenic components (CORBA/IIOP class
    files) that come bundled with the latest version of the Netscape
    Navigator browser, so that they don't have to be downloaded
    2. Figure out how to use ZIP files. Here's what I've read: "Since
    the
    introduction of Netscape Navigator 3.0, you can specify an
    uncompressed
    .zip file as an addition to the code base of your application. By
    specifying a ZIP file, the browser will load your applet's classes
    from
    a specified ZIP file before it searches the code base. This ZIP can
    improve applet download time by reducing the number of HTTP
    connections
    required to fetch applet code. As an added benefit, Netscape caches
    the
    single ZIP file so that it will not reload your applet unless the date
    of the ZIP file has changed."
    3. Figure out how to use JAR files. Here's what I've read: "JAR
    stands for Java archive. It's a file format based on the popular ZIP
    file format and is used for aggregating many files into one. Although
    JAR can be used as a general archiving tool, the primary motivation
    for
    its development was so that Java applets and their requisite
    components
    can be downloaded to a browser in a single HTTP transaction, rather
    than
    opening a new connection for each piece. This greatly improves the
    speed with which an applet can be loaded onto a web page and begin
    functioning. The JAR format also supports compression, which reduces
    the
    size of the file and improves download time still further."
    Unfortunately, we've been unable to get any of these approaches to
    work.
    Has any one used these or other approaches to speed up applet
    download
    time? Or, does anyone know of consulting firms that specialize in
    this
    sort of thing?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    This is a User-to-User forum.  We do not have any knowledge into what Apple will or will not do.
    However, based on past history, it is unlikely Apple will invest anything except critical security updates into Mac OS X 10.5.  I could be wrong.
    If you really REALLY need Java 1.6 on your Mac, you should consider upgrading to a newer version of Mac OS X.
