JAVA applets have unreadable text.

I have this strange problem when ever i visit a java site that requiers you to Accept/Deny a Java application.

Charset problems using java applet.

Im running a java applet where the text is displayed in a JEditorPane.
When running the applet locally the charset is all fine, but when i push the applet into a webserver the charset is displayed incorrectly.
Anyone have any thoughts why this can happen?

Actually this was caused because I signed the jarfiles running on the server. Why does that happen?

WebAnalysis/WebAdminServicesConsole very slow (because of java applet)

Context: Hyperion System 9.3.1
server1, Windows -> installed Administration Services e BI+ (Workspace, Web Analysis ecc)
server2, AIX -> installed Essbase
The client has externalized the software/hardware so we have:
network A =client's network
network B = Internet Service provider network
network C =network of the society to which client has externalized the hardware
The communication path is: network A -> network B -> network C
server1 and server2 are on network C.
From the client's computers in network A, Web Analysis Studio and Web Administration Services Console (both using java applets)
have very very slow response times. To give you an idea, an blank report in Web Analysis needs 10min to open. With Web Admin Console I can't do anything: in an empty outline, I added 2 dimensions with 1 member each, when I tried 'Save outline' after 20mins of waiting a response the system also freezed.
When I work in remote control directly on server1, Web Analysis studio and Web Admin Console are very very fast.
This happens only with these two components, the other web components not using java applet (Workspace ecc) don't have this problem.
That made me think there is a network issue. But ping and tracert to both servers (1,2) from the client machines gave me positive results.
I don't know what else to test/try.

It seems Web Analysis works well only with jre 1.5.0 update 11. I had java 1.6.0 update 4. I had disintalled java 1.6.0_4, installed 1.5.0_11 and now web analysis applet won't even load.
The java console makes me see the following messages (I replaced by hand the real server name with the server_name):

Voiceover tool doesnt recognize the texts on the java applet.

absolutely now way of doing this straight forwardly. But some workouts could be :
1. whatever text u want to display, try displaying it inside a textarea (and not simply as label). This will automatically adjust the textarea as well as the text inside it on resizing.
2. develop a custom class (say DynamicLabel) which will keep track of the resizing event of the applet or frame and adjust the text in multiple lines accordingly. But then u have to write custom code to adjust the text in multiple lines.

My web page uses a Java Applet to allow my visitors to replay chess games; the Chess Viewer Deluxe applet was written by Nikolai Pilafov some time ago and has been working properly for some time (until recently). I don't monitor this part of my site regularly so I am not sure when it began to fail. On his web site [http://chesstuff.blogspot.com/2008/11/chess-viewer-deluxe.html] he has a link to check LiveConnect object functionality (which fails for OBJECT tags). His recommendation is to "seek platform specific support which might be available from the JRE developers for your platform".
I have been getting java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ZeroApplet.class and java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: JavaToJS.class crashes with JRE version 1.6.0_26-b03-384-10M3425 VM executing a Java Applet. Until I checked the LiveConnect object functionality, I was unable to identify the source of the console error messages. This does seem to be the smoking gun.

I just went up to check the LiveConnect object functionality page AND IT WORKED THIS TIME! I must confess, this is very mysterious. I will do some more checking and reply here if I can determine why it is working now (and more importantly, why it didn't work before).

Firefox 4 on Windows Vista loads java applet for my MOO site then immediately closes Java Console, dumping me from the site, so I have had to go back to Firefox 3.6.17 which works fine

I have 32-bit Vista Business, with Firefox as my default browser. I recently upgraded to Firefox 4 and found that I can no longer access my VRoma MOO, which uses a Java applet to connect. I can connect to the site, but within 30 seconds the Java Console closes by itself (without my having done anything) and dumps me from the MOO. Following suggestions on this website, I uninstalled two earlier versions of Java which were on my computer and downloaded Java 6.0.25, the latest version. I also disabled previous Java Console extensions in the browser. None of this helped. I can stay connected with IE, and I can stay connected with Firefox 3.6.17, which I have had to install again. This is disturbing, because VRoma has many student users and I don't want them to encounter this problem if they are using Firefox 4.

You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. Java applets won't load, have latest version of java installed, have removed all old versions from the hard drive, java console not working in firefox, any suggestions please ?

i have run the java test page & i have the latest version installed.
have removed all old versions of java from my hard drive & restarted the computer.
i have checked that java is enabled in the plug-ins and it is with version se 6 u22, also something called java development toolkit 6.0.220.4 np runtime script plug-in library for java (tm) deploy.

You might want to look in your control panel for 'Java' icon. It should give you an option to enable java plugin into your browser. Let me know if you still face the issue.

Clickable/Linked Text in Java Applet

Hi,
I have always liked this tool http://link-verify.sourceforge.net/index.en.html and have always wanted to modify it to make the "referer" clickable so that I could easily click to link to the page that had the broken link more easily.
The source code is available and well with the hard economic times I have time to finally modify this to work how I would like.
Can anyone tell me how I would go about accomplishing this? I am a seasoned ASP.NET programmer and understand the overall logic, etc... It is just the Java syntax that I am missing.
Basically I can discern that in source code, LinkFrame.java to be exact on line 308 the "referreeP" panel is being populated with a refL=new List(), where refL is a List that is populated as each link is processed as the applet runs.
How can I make each of those items in the refL list clickable is my primary question for you all. Do I have to use some sort of listener on each item in the list, is that even the right approach to take.
Any and all thoughts appreciated!
PS - I want to shout out to Ralf Wiebicke for creating this wonderful tool, it has been a wonderful developer tool for me over the years.

If you check the JavaDocs for List, you will notice it has methods [addActionListener(ActionListener|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/awt/List.html#addActionListener(java.awt.event.ActionListener)] ) and [addItemListener(ItemListener)|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/awt/List.html#addItemListener(java.awt.event.ItemListener)]. Either of those listeners will detect actions/selections on the List.
As for showing the links, look to [AppletContext.showDocument(URL)|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/applet/AppletContext.html#showDocument(java.net.URL)].
As an aside, the AWT widgets such as List are very old-hat. If you wanted to take on a bigger upgrade, you might convert the app. to use Swing.

I have a station that will not display a particular java applet.

It has had 1.4, then 6.0 and when attempting to click on the applet of a calendar, a box pops up, then waits a second, then shows a red x.
So I uninstalled all Java, rebooted, and installed 5.0.12 etc.
It still does it and if you hit cancel, it puts undefined in the box where the date should belong on the form.
I turned on through the console the logging and this is what appears if I look at the calendar after looking at a working java applet off of Sun's webpage. I only cut and pasted what appeared after I typed the address into the address bar and entered through it.

Java applet shows boxes instead of text

I'm helping a friend with a new PC. He likes to work the crosswords at washingtonpost.com, which are embedded java applets. For what ever reason, all the clues just show up as boxes where the text should be. This screen shot should help:

As you can see, all the "clues", and the crossword title just show boxes where letters should be. Other text (that which you type into the crossword) as well as text in java apps on other sites shows up fine. I've tried reinstalling the java run time environment, as well as clearing the browser files and checking internet explorer settings. Any other suggestions?

I'm still not having any luck with this. I've reinstalled Java, and also check the internet explorer settings. Nothing seems to be wrong as other sites work just fine. Could this be a missing font issue?

Mac OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. This setting is mandatory in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those versions has bugs that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. Those bugs will probably never be fixed, because those older operating systems are no longer being maintained by Apple. Migrate to a newer version of the Mac OS as soon as you can.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use ClamXav — nothing else.

The backdrop of the question: The yanhua.java applet program works well. But one day, i install j2re 1.4.1 plugin for my microsfot Internet Explorer, i run the yanhua.java applet program again, it show difficult(i move my mouse in the area, slowness), the fireworks is not fluent. Then i try my best to find the cause , i get some information, the following: yanhua.java run in j2re 1.4.1 plugin,it will deplete 100% cpu; else yanhua.java does not run in j2re 1.4.1 plugin, it will deplete 90%--95% cpu too; but my computer c3 1G cpu and 256MB memory, without running other program at that time. After downloadeding the latest Java plugin, I start to receive "Please configure your browser to allow Java applets to access the filesystem" message when I try to run a download wizard. What do I need to do? BTW, IE does not have this problem.

I had no problem using a download wizard Java applet to download file to my computer from an SFTP site using Firefox. When I tried to do the same thing with Chrome, I was told to download the latest plugin. Once I did that, I receive the following message when I run the downlaod wizard:
The Java Wizard cannot run.
Please configure your browser to allow Java applets to access the filesystem.
I got the same message using Firefox and Chrome. However, I have no problem using IE to run the same download wizzard. Please help.

If the problem is with a site that is hosted using MOVEit DMZ by Ipswitch, please notify the site owner of the issue and ask them to apply the patch that is available on the support site to resolve the issue.
This is a better resolution than downgrading your version of Java that was updated due to security issues.

If you use JApplet then you can use JTable. Just do an Internet search for "JTable" and "applet".
