Java "Application Failed to run" error in safari

I'm getting a " Application Failed to run" error on safari when trying to upload photos to facebook via the java uploader. I can't use the iphoto uploader for this particular page so that is not a solution.
I've uploaded photos plenty of times before but starting today, I get the following JAva Console message that I've deleted my user name from. Although I don't see anything here that indicates an erro, it is promted by an Error message that you click for details, which says the "The Application failed to run". Any thoughts on what I can do to correct this? I haven't changed anything since it's worked in the past and I've quit safari, restarted and ran disk utility.

This I guess is not a Safari problem since I got the same error in Firefox. How does one fix a Java problem occurring in at least two different browsers?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

The above info re the Flashback removal tool confuses me.  I thought this trojan horse affected those who had Java (JRE) up and running  i.e.,Safari security Java checkbox enabled.  I also believed this Trojan horse also affected those using Snow Leopard. Clarify please.

There are several variants of the trojan. The first ones were released as installers for Adobe Flash and therefore did not require you to have Java on your system. Later variants took advantage of a Java vulnerability and could install themselves by simply visiting a rogue Web site. Therefore, even without Java installed if you had run a rogue updater for Adobe Flash or Reader, then you might have installed the trojan.
The trojan also affects Snow Leopard and prior versions of OS X (so far the code is known to be intel-only, but this is unconfirmed), but Apple has only issued patches for supported versions of the OS (version 10.6 or later).
Apple's removal tools run in OS X 10.6 or later if you instlal the Java update, and the standalone removal tool is for Lion only. Why Apple does not offer options for other operating systems is beyond me, but that's the way of things. Right now there are other tools you can use to check for and remove the malware on versions of OS X that Apple does not support: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57413811-263/flashback-malware-removal-tool -roundup/

  • Symbol Lookup Error - GTK Applications Fail to Run

I receive the following error for the majority of graphical applications I'm running on a laptop.
application: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_source_set_name
Those applications include,  but are not limited to, firefox, chromium, thunar and uzbl-brower. The one exception I have noticed is VLC. Clearly this is a product of the problem with the GTK library, but I still can't figure out how to solve the error. I found an Ubuntu thread that referenced the problem, but the solution did not help me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Corrected typo as noted by fphillips.

Thank you for the comment fphillips. Reinstalling GTK2, which I tried earlier, doesn't seem to have any effect.
I had an error with Pacman, which I thought I fixed, but may be the real source of my aforementioned error.
When I (re)installed a package I was receiving the following error:
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/local/glibc-2.12.1-2/depends
I created a new file copied from another Arch Linux install, which removed the error, but may not have removed the problem.
Oddly readelf -s /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0|grep g_source_set_name returns nothing on my functioning netbook, but returns the same output from your post on my broken laptop.

  • Is there a way to find out if your java application is already running?

    Hi,
Im trying to find a way to find out if my java app is already running in windows. Basically i've registered a file extension with my application and when i person opens that file it launches my app. Now the question is how do i know whether the client already has an instance of my app running (in which case i would then pass the filename to that instance) or if i need to launch a new instance?
Also if it is the case that an instance is already running then how would i be able to pass that instance the filename that the user clicked on?
    thx

Hi Rcp, staitc var wont probably work since the original poster is looking for uniqueness under all the JVMs runningin the box.
to s_newave: for pre jdk1.4, your best bet is to go for socket (or RMI).
when starting the application try to open a server socket on a predefined port. if you can not bind to that port, you can assume another instance of the application is already running. then pass the file name to the server. the server then should handle the request, and the instance you just started should quit.

  • Java application hangs during running java native method

    Hello,
    There is compiled java application.
    It hangs at very begginings.
It was detected that in the beggining a new Frame should be created. Then one java library invokes native method. During invoking of the native method application hangs.
Stack is available only until native method invocation.

I have downloaded from the internet the source code of native method but do not know what I can do with it.
Is it possible to debug native method somehow?
How to detect where the library contans the native method is located?
What other ways can provide more information about reason.
It seems that the problem is related to graphics. Judging by class name "X11GraphicsDevice" it is related to X server. May be some server settings?
The problem is present on SLED 11 machines.
It is not reproduced on SLED 10.
I will be really appreciate for any help.
    Thanks in advance.
    Vasily.

more information about the cause is in the server log file .
    possible reasons include:
-Port conflicts. (use netstat -a to detect possible port numbers already used by the operating system.)
-Incorrect server configuration (domain.xml to be corrected muanually)
-Corrupted Deployed Application preventing the server to start.(this can be seen in the server.log file. in the case, domain.xml needs to be modified).

  • Error occurred while packaging application: fails to run on iOS device...

I am building a project in Apple Mavericks using FlashBuilder 4.7 using AIR SDK 3.9 and Flash Player 11.9.
The project is plugin project that builds and runs for android in the AIR simulator as well as on the device (so far so good)… it also builds and runs for iOS in the Xcode simulator but fails on the device… I have checked and double checked to make sure that my certificate (p12) and provisioning profile are correct and have also confirmed that the Application descriptor correctly mirrors the app ID (in flash builder as well as in the provisioning profile). I have allowed System Events in the Security & Privacy setting in Mavericks.
If I try to build and run for the device… after a few minutes it fails with a message… “Exception occurred during launch  Reason: Error occurred while packaging application:” without any detailed information.
If I try to “Export Release Build” it fails after a few minutes with message… “Error occurred while packaging application: Id: framework not found UIKit  Compilation failed while executing  :  Id64” Even though I know UIKit was included in the Xcode project when I started and UIKit is (I thought) automatically included by Flash Builder!
Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction? I really need to get this project running on the device, I was pretty sure that the provisioning was my problem but have not had any luck getting it running no matter how many times I review and check my settings and provisioning. Please Help

  • A JNLP based Java application is not running on JDK/JRE 1.7

I am planning to upgrade users to java 7 up40. The generated command line that I am calling via the Process is working find when I run using jre1.6 but it doesn't work when I call javaw via jre1.7. Very strange that if i update xbootclasspath to use 1.5 or 1.7 it works but it doesn't work jre1.6.
As suggested in other forums I updated the version in jnlp to 6 and also cleared the stderr and stdout from the process error stream and input stream in separate thread but still the thread is locked in FileInputStream.readBytes and doesnt move futher with jre1.6 as the classbootpath.
any help on this regards will be helpful.

btw this happens only if user does not have java 7 installed on their machine. As the app tries to install and run and so picks up javaw to java 7 and jre 1.6 in xbootclasspath.

I am using Jboss server and the server.xml file has been updated to use the correct Keystore and certificate using SSL. Below is what I am Using:
    <Connector protocol="HTTP/1.1" SSLEnabled="true"
               port="8443" address="${jboss.bind.address}"
               scheme="https" secure="true" clientAuth="false"
               keystoreFile="${jboss.server.home.dir}/conf/XYZ.keystore"
               keystorePass="XXX" sslProtocol = "TLS" />
I have added the https site which I am trying to access in the exception list of both the browser and JAVA control Panel. Cleared the cache of both and have also deleted the user certificate to ensure the latest certificate gets downloaded.
Kindly help to know the resolution steps.

  • Web application fails to run on PE 8.1

    Hi,
    May someone give advices:
I developed an web Application with Sun Java jCreator and worked well under Sun app server PE 8.0 but when deployed to PE 8.1 it doesn't work at all.
From Sun Java jCreator I created a WAR file and deployed through admin console. WEB.XML and SUN-WEB.XML look correct but I always get this error:
    HTTP Status 404 - /webapplication1/
    type Status report
    message /webapplication1/
description The requested resource (/webapplication1/) is not available.
    Sun-Java-System/Application-Server
    Thanks.

do you see any deployment exception in the server.log ? if nothing please post the web.xml and sun-web.xml

  • Java Application does not run in Windows XP

Hi, I have developed a Java Swing application using JRE 1.4.2 and everything works fine under Windows 2000. However, for some Windows XP machines, the application hangs on startup when it tries to show the initial splash screen. No exceptions are thrown and the application must be terminated from the Task Manager.
A workaround seems to be setting the javaw.exe properties so that it runs in "compatibility mode for Windows 2000".
    Any ideas?

Are you doing any JNI or native calls during start-up? That's my quess.
If you are, must be calling win2000 functions.

  • Java application fails to resolve name

    Hi Experts,
I have a problem with a Java based application on Solaris 10. The application works fine and suddenly fails to resolve names (NS lookup order is files then dns) and hence disconnects users. We have to then touch the /etc/hosts so it updates the time stamp and the application starts working OK.
    I don't have a clue of what's going on...Any one ?
Any help will be very much appreciated...

I have you got a recent patch level on your Solaris 10 system. You shouldn't have to update /etc/hosts to get it to reread the file.
