Java download 64bit vs 32bit

Hi, I am reading http://java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.xml. I just installed windows 7 64-bit. I checked I have default IE8 (no 64bit edition). I never knew browser will be a factor for java version, so I was thinking of downloading 64-bit JDK, but by reading it, should I really stay 32bit JDK? My final goal is to install weblogic portal. Weblogic portal has 32 bit download for most OS including eclipse already. It only has one generic binary for 64 bit for all OS, so I need to download JDK, eclipse separately. So before I go too far, I need to decide 64bit or 32bit. Thanks!

Your windows 64 bit has also the 64 bit IE. You can use IE 32 or 64 as you please, although by default, the 32 bit browser is launched. I guess the reason is that, for now, there are more plug-ins for it. Your best bet is to install both 32 and 64 bit Java. It works for me fine in the browser and outside. Of course, when you type java in a command prompt, Windows has to know which one to use, so just play with your path.

Hi,
I have 64bit archlinux. I have installed eclipse and openjdk from repository so both are 64bit version. But I need 32bit version of java for actual job. So i downloaded it from oracle's web. Now I have two java on my arch (./usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk - 64bit and /opt/java/jdk1.6.0_34/ - 32bit). When I changed $JAVA_HOME to 32bit version, eclipse didnt works. So I change $JAVA_HOME back to 64bit.
And my question. If I add new (32bit) java virtual machine to eclipse and select it for use, will be this 32bit version used for programing?
And what about maven? We use maven for build project. Can I set it to use 32bit java?

you can create a script that wrapps maven with 32 bit java
Call it sth like mvn32 , put this to your $HOME/bin direcotry and insert following:
#!/bin/sh
export JAVACMD=/path/to/java-32/bin/java
#or
#export JAVA_HOME=/path/to/java-32/
mvn $*
Then you call mvn with mvn32 clean install for example.
When name this scipt mvn and ensure that $HOME/bin is the first entry in your $PATH variable this scipt will be excuted as first when you call mvn
An other alternative is edit /opt/maven/bin/mvn
and adjust the JAVA_HOME Variable to your 32 bit jdk-

OK, I jumped the gun after trying for hours to download that version 6 with 29 in the number but apparently it was successful the last time I tried to download it. Finally, it has been successful.
I would like to know why there are no java subjects for my situation. I had the plugin 7 but that is for 64bit browsers. I had read that earlier versions needed to be deleted but it certainly is difficult to then download anything for 32bit browser but now it is resolved. I would appreciate some info available for what is needed in the Java (not JavaScript). When I got my list of plugins, it said that I was up to date-well, yes but not accessible and fulfilled for 32bit browsers but that it does not address.
Please be proactive in adding appropriate info about what we need to consider in order to handle all browser situations? It certainly would have helped me but nothing came up after many searches even though I knew something was wrong. Thanks, Bye, S

Which I get. But clicking on that link you provided does not give you the option of choosing between 32 and 64 bit installers.
Yeah, that was certainly a 32-bit installer file being referred to in the other message, too. (The 64-bit installer file is called iTunes64Setup.exe.)
Just in case it's an issue with your normal browser not working properly with the system-detection equipment on the page (there's a javascript control that checks for operating system specifics, and is supposed to deliver the correct Mac or Windows installers), let's try a different web browser for the download. If you use Firefox instead of IE (or vice versa), do you get offered an iTunes64Setup.exe instead of an iTunesSetup.exe?

Kinda obvious but are you downloading the 64bit version of iTunes for Windows as noted at the bottom of the iTunes download page?

Your question isn't clear, but I'll make a guess at what you're asking.
After Effects CS5 is a 64-bit application. It requires a 64-bit operating system and 64-bit processor. There is no 32-bit version of After Effects CS5.

Installation CS6 64bit and 32bit

When I installed the downloaded Photoshop CS6 software, the application offered to install BOTH 64bit AND 32bit versions.
Never seen that before, usually software looks at system and installs the correct version (or you choose before downloading).
I have Windows 7 64bit system.
Is there a reason to install BOTH? Is there a problem to have both installed?

PS CS 6 on 64 bit machnie offers you both the options 32 bit as well as 64 bit.
Its your choice to install both or any one of it.
64 bit Photoshop can utilize more RAM installed on your machine and will respond better to larger files as compared to 32 bit
On 32 bit OS , there is no choice given because the only option left out is 32 bit photoshop.
If you install both the versions, there will be "NO PROBLEM AT ALL"

ITunes is saying that I need to download 64bit when I have already gotten 64bit.

iTunes has quit recognizing both of my iPhone 3gs. It says that I have to download 64bit nut I already have 64 bit. I uninstalled & re-downloaded iTunes 64 bit only to still recieve the same error message saying that I need 64 bit. Help!!!

From a practical perspective, besides the 64 bit version being a bit faster at just about everything, limitations on document size are lifted in the 64 bit version. Essentially, how much can do is limited only by how much RAM you have installed in your system. You can do things like have larger documents, deeper history, etc. and have it all work quickly.
On the other hand, many 3rd party plug-ins, especially older ones, only provide 32 bit versions, which will only run in 32 bit Photoshop.
Both 32 and 64 bit versions are installed by default. It's important to note that most of the preferences are separate between the two, so you can have two slightly different setups that might help with specialty operations you might need. This gets pretty subtle, but for example I keep the 32 bit version configured with only 1 cache level, so all previews of high bit depth images are always composited in high bit depth. This aids me with some aspects of astroimage processing. It's slower, but more accurate. By contrast I have more cache levels configured for my 64 bit version, so that's faster for general photography work.

Failed to download java download client

Trying to get a webex meeting going w/new firefox 4 install, I get:
"Failed to download java download client!
Sorry, you do not have java download client enabled. Please try again or inform your Site Administrator to set up for you. "
There is no site administrator, it's my Mac so I'm it. ;) I've googled it and I see nothing on how to turn this on. Basically you can try and start a webex meeting here:

That also chokes with the same error. Works with Firefox 3.x no problems... but with firefox 4 no dice. Probably some simple setting I'm missing... can someone give me a clue?

Workaround:
Find your Firefox application in Finder, right click on it, click on "File Info", select 32-bit mode, and restart Firefox.
