You must be using an update CD. You need the software that has the full version first - install that, then you can use the update one if needed. I know, cuz I made the same mistake - lol

Don't use Backstage option in Office 2013

The new backstage view in Office 2010 was great for a business environment. It showed a long list of recent workbooks and recent folders and so, even working on many workbooks, there was a very good chance that one, or at worst two, clicks would get
me to the workbook I needed to work on.
In 2013 this is a whole lot harder as you only see either recent workbooks or recent folders and the lists take up more space so fewer files/folders are visible. Also Skydrive, which I doubt if many businesses would use, is far too prominent and cannot
be removed (?) The list of recent files in the menu bar is too narrow so it is often not possible to distinguish between files with similar names without hovering over and waiting!
Anyway, there is an option, (File/Options/Save) "Don't show the Backstage when opening or saving files". I have tried this option in Word and Excel and it doesn't seem to make any difference, at all. Am I missing something?
Oh BTW as IT manager I am recommending that we do not move to Office 2013. Backstage and color theme are the killers.

1st, well, I just counted the number of the Recent Workbooks on Office 2010 and Office 2013, and the number of Office 2010 is 3 more than Office 2013. When Office 2010 has 21 recent workbooks, Office 2013 has 18 on my 19" screen (1280*1024 resolution).
If that matters, try click the Send a Frown button in any Office applications to send your feedback to the Product team, :)
2nd, the width of the Recent Workbooks in Office 2013 are almost the same as Office 2010, I mean, if you can see the full name in Office 2010, you should also be able to see the full name in Office 2013.
From the above, it seems you might have mixed up the Start screen with the Recent Workbooks menu (which, BTW, also shows 16 recent workbooks).
To turn off the Start screen, uncheck the option "Show the Start screen when this application starts" in Excel or other Office applications.
3rd, the option "Don't show the Backstage when opening or saving files" does make a difference, try figure it out by compare the save or open behavior between turn it on and off.
4th, for the "color theme" issue, now we have "White", "Light Gray" and "Dark Gray", and our product team is also aware of the feedback from our cutomers, let's hope we can get more themes from the future release.
5th, for the SkyDrive, yes, I haven't found any option to remove it. Unless you are interested in creating your own customized backstage view. If so, I'd suggest you to visit the Office for Developers forums for further discussion:

I am wanting to know if there is any documentation enlisting the advantages of using BO over the tools provided in BEx.
Also, what is the advantage of using BO analysing data from cubes in BI 7.0 than accessing data from SAP R/3 directly.

Advantages of BO (as well as other Query/Reporting) are that they provide robust end users interfaces
in terms of designing queries, reports and also run on a standalone desktop client. Their user interface is
easy to use and much easier environment to design manus, drop-down boxes/lists and buttons and also provide wizards to help users guide. These tools can also work against several heterogenous data sources.
There are several factors one needs to keep in mind when selecting 3rd Party tools for SAP BW. A few are listed below:
BO uses OLEDB for OLAP API via BEX query. This causes extra overhead because here you have BEX resources and then you add up BO resources to manage infrmation to/from BEX query over the OLEDB interface. Some vendors, like arcplan, use OLAP BAPI to access BW data. This API has somewhat lower overhead because it bypasses the OLEDB for OLAP layer.
As you know that BEX is MSExcel based. It is not easy to build sophisticatecd user interfaces without doing extensive VBA or Macro programming.

are there any resource utilization advantages of using APPV Package on RDS server vs native application installation on RDS.
Example:
The app that requires 100K of memory. There are 30 simultaneous connection to the app.
Would the memory utilization on RDS server be the same in both cases APPV published app and installed app ?

Potentially not, It even might be that App-V applications have a negative impact on the resource utilization compared to natively installed applications.

Advantages of using higher version of catalog Database.

Wanted to know what are the advantages of using higher version of catalog database.
for ex: my target database is 10.2.0.4 and catalog database is 11.2.0.1

The very reason is that you would be able to use all the new features offered by the current release. Like, 11gr2 offers Virtual Private Catalog which you can only use in 11.2. So its better that you move your catalog too to the higher version when you upgrade your database.

Office 2013 Technet installation Error 25004. The product key you entered cannot be used on this machine. (System error: - 1073422314)

I am receiving an error when attempting to install
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 which I downloaded from the TechNet site. At the end of the installation process I receive the following message:
"Error 25004. The product key you entered cannot be used on this machine. This is most likely due to previous Office 2013 trials being installed. (System error:
-1073422314)"
I have never installed a trial or Beta of any Office product on this machine.   However, I have installed Office 2007 Ultimate and Office 2010 Professional Plus. All of these are 32bit versions downloaded from TechNet site. In addition,
prior to this error I had attempted unsuccessfully to install the 64bit version of Office 2013 as well as standalone versions of Visio Professional 2013 x64 and Project professional 2013 x64.   All three of these installations failed due to previous
installation of 32bit Office software, so I have downloaded the 32 bit versions but not yet tried to install, other than Office 2013.
I used the Custom upgrade option during the attempted install of Office 2013, specifying "keep all prior versions".
Note that all the above was done on a new machine. The specific purpose was to test co-existence of multiple versions of OFFICE (2007, 2010, 2013) to facilitate user training and migration.
I have tried uninstalling via Control Panel, and performed some of the steps for manual removal, however did not do all of them since 1) They are quite lengthy and 2) Some of them seem to involve removing ALL prior versions of Office, which I do not want
to do; the earlier versions are working properly and I do not want to have to uninstall them. Just want to uninstall and reinstall Office 2013.   Also tried running O15CTRREMOVE.diagcab which indicated that it could not find a problem,
but did not seem to remove anything.
I have read about ten recommended TechNet articles, which recommend everything from running a FIXIt tool, uninstalling all OFFICE software, and reformatting the whole machine. Most of these involve System error -1073418209 rather than -1073422314 (which
is the code that I am getting).   Other than that the problem sounds the same. This seems to be a problem with key management and copy protection in these products, dating back to 2010. Dozens of IT professionals have tried the solutions
and vented their frustration since other than the full format, the other solutions work only sporadically, if at all. Some of these people had been working with trial or beta software, but many who encountered this problem had not.  As
noted above, none of my software was a trail version.   I do not want to uninstall all the OFFICE versions, particularly if it as likely as not will not resolve the issue.   (I am also getting paranoid to the extent of fearing that
after uninstalling everything I might not be able to reinstall any version). I think what we need here is a definitive fix from Microsoft, though I am not too hopeful, in view of the lack of response to all the other technicians who have been struggling
with this for at least the past three years.
If anyone is aware of a solution which works consistently, I would appreciate it. Reformatting however is not an option. Detailed instructions for completely uninstalling Office 2013 (ONLY 2013) might be helpful. I would be willing to uninstall
all versions, but only as a last resort, and only if there is some assurance that this will actual solve the problem (for many others it did not seem to do so).

Thanks for your reply.   I do in fact have three versions of Office installed on this machine, 2007 2010 and (hopefully) 2013. I have on previous occasions installed 2007 and 2010 on a single machine, but this is my first attempt to install
2013.

I know that the error message says that the problem is commonly caused by attempting to install trial software more than once, but that is not the case. Several other people have reported this same problem, sometimes involving trial software but not
in every case.    My own opinion is that this is a software bug involving key management and copy protection.
Many people have reported on TechNet that the problem was NOT resolved even after uninstalling all Office software. While there is a chance I might get lucky, I really would like a solution which has a better chance for success.

provide any further insight into this issue?

Office 2013 64Bit on WIN 8.1 64bit MAIL control panel

Hey guys I found out that after installing Office 2013 home and business (64bit office only) on a windows 8.1 pro 64bit the mail options in the control panel will not open or come up to create new profiles. This seems to only happen with the 64bit version
of office 2013 on windows 8.1.
I think this only happens after already configuring a exchange account rebooting and then trying to open mail from the control panel. it doesn't seem to matter if you are a admin or not. For the time being those with the same issue as me just remove the
old profile from the registry or make changes to the profile via the registry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Profile
again this is only an issue on the 64bit version of office 32bit works fine

This is impossible to fathom a new install of Windows 8.1 with Office 2013 and the control panel mail app will not open. Client believes you're a complete dill!
The problem we needed to solve was to create 2 exchange email accounts with profile options on outlook start up. We couldn't create the second account while outlook was running and control panel mail would not respond.
This is how it worked for me. Created the first email account by starting outlook and providing the account information during the initial setup of the exchange account.
But what about the second account. Have to start the mail from control panel.
Navigate to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office15.0\Outlook
Select DefaultProfile and delete the name of the profile.
Next navigate to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\
Create a Key and name it Client
Navigate to Client and create a key and name it Options
In Options add a new String Value and name it PickLogonProfile
Press Enter and set the value to 1
Start Outlook and you will be prompted to select a profile or create a new profile. Hooray!
If there are any corrupt profiles that present while selecting a profile in outlook, then navigate to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\outlook\Profiles and delete corrupted profiles.

You can choose either 32 bit or 64 bit install before you use the Product Key.
But as Hans mentioned, if you use the product key on both, it will count as two installs of Office and you may get the error like "The Product Key is invalid".

Satish I have refered this document long time back. The issue is that this mode is making the FPGA standalone and its more complex. Am asking for a simple design where in i use 7 series integrated block and connect it to a custom IP core where it performs only addition. Generate bit stream, use a driver program (CPP file ). Execute in the host system. The CPP file will have the data to be executed. the FPGA reads the data from the HOST Machine (CPP file), executes and gives back the result in the terminal window (Host machine).

Unable to edit document from SharePoint 2007 using Office 2013 and IE 11

I am getting the following error when I try to edit a document from SharePoint 2007: "Edit document
requires a Windows Sharepoint services-compatible application and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater". I am using Windows 7 with Office 2013 and Internet Explorer 11. Troubleshooting steps that I've tried so far (that haven't worked) are as follows:

It seems you installed mixed version Office2007/2010/2013 on your client machine?
I would suggest you remove all Office 2007 and 2010 version, and reinstall Office 2013(include Office Tools->Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Support component) on your machine, and make sure "Open SharePointDocuments class" add-on is enabled
from IE11, then check if it could fix the issue.
If above works, please test again after installing the Office Communicator 2007 r2 on your machine.

Is there any way to export IT Resource data from OIM using the export tool?

we are trying to migrate an OIM development environment to a preproduction environment and we need to migrate more than 400 IT Resources. We have exported some IT Resources and when we imported them in the preproduction environment their data was not migrated. Is there any way to export IT Resource data from OIM using the export tool? Or is there any other way to do this without doing it by hand?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of using PS/CS5 in 64bit over 32bit please?

From a practical perspective, besides the 64 bit version being a bit faster at just about everything, limitations on document size are lifted in the 64 bit version. Essentially, how much can do is limited only by how much RAM you have installed in your system. You can do things like have larger documents, deeper history, etc. and have it all work quickly.
On the other hand, many 3rd party plug-ins, especially older ones, only provide 32 bit versions, which will only run in 32 bit Photoshop.
Both 32 and 64 bit versions are installed by default. It's important to note that most of the preferences are separate between the two, so you can have two slightly different setups that might help with specialty operations you might need. This gets pretty subtle, but for example I keep the 32 bit version configured with only 1 cache level, so all previews of high bit depth images are always composited in high bit depth. This aids me with some aspects of astroimage processing. It's slower, but more accurate. By contrast I have more cache levels configured for my 64 bit version, so that's faster for general photography work.
