Java Enterprise Edition 6 Beta Testing

Until September 30, 2010, five Java EE6 beta exams are available for $50 USD:
http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/2010/09/0373.html

Seriously, these questions come at least two-three times a week. It isn't that hard you know.
- first check the list of requirements
- find books to match these requirements
Don't think that you'll cover it with one book. Amazon is a great source to find out which books are good through the user comments. If a book is really bad you'll know from there.
So why don't you browse a bit and if you have doubts between a few books to choose come back. At least then you have a specific problem to be helped with.

  • Java Enterprise Edition Installation Issues

    Hello
I am trying to install version 8 of the Java Enterprise Edition software but I am experiencing 2 errors. Sometimes I get a message that it cannot find the jre and now the jvm. I have JRE_HOME and JAVA_HOME defined. When this happens after the path page is done, I get a dialog error message with just an x in it. The other error happened once after defining the variables with an out of memory error. I have 2 gigabytes of memory,
    I need some help.

Enterprise Edition -- that's the one you pay a lot of
$$ for, right? I would think those $$ entitle you to
telephone support, or am I wrong? They have an enterprise trial that allows you a free 30 days (full functionality).
I personally have not had any problems with it. (WinXP, RedHat 9.0)
    Smooth like butter.

Yes, no matter whether I choose Native Packages or Zip, I get the same file to download. These are the options I am selecting for each:
    1) Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6.x
    2) 6.0
    3) Compressed Archive (ZIP)
    4) Solaris 10 SPARC
    OR
    1) Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6.x
    2) 6.0
    3) Native Package (PKG)
    4) Solaris 10 SPARC
As I mentioned, doesn't matter which one of the above two selections I make, I always get the same java_es-5-identsuite-ga-solaris-sparc.zip file.
Is anyone else seeing the same behavior in the downloads?

  • I there any dependcy between Java Enterprise Edition and Java standard Edit

    Hi Friends,
Is J2EE 1.4 uses Java SDK 1.4 or 1.5.Please reply as earlier as possible. It is urgent
    Thanks
    Bye

Each version of the Java EE platform must be able to run on the associated version of the Java SE platform. So, J2EE 1.4 must be able to run on J2SE 1.4 , Java EE 5 must be able to run on Java SE 5, etc. Note that this doesn't mean a particular implementation of Java EE can't be run with a more recent version of the JDK. For example, the J2EE 1.4 SDK can be run with J2SE 1.4 or Java SE 5. The key is that both the implementation of the Java EE platform and the applications written to that particular release of the platform must write to the corresponding Java SE version API. In other words, neither a J2EE 1.4 implementation nor a J2EE 1.4 application should make use of an API that was added in Java SE 5.

    (previously submitted to Portal Services/Wireless)

    Hi,
I'm not sure if there are known issues with iAS test drive and Windows 2000 howevere I would like to help you in cracking the error.
The GXBIND error appears only when the iAS is not able to communicate with the directory server. In our case, let us proceed by the following...
    1. Check if the directory server is running. Verify this by checking the services and look for an entry for directory server and it must look something like
"Netscape Directory Server 4.1 (machine name)" and the status is started.
    2. Next, if you are not able to start the console of directory server, then you must check if the directory administrative server is running. This is also verified with the services and look for the entry...
"Netscape Administration Server 4.2" and the status is started.
    3. Next, if both of the above are running, then you need to login to directory server console by using cn=Directory Server and issuing the password. If you are able to login successfully then, iAS will work, if not, then rectify the problem with directory server and I'm sure iAS will work.
    4. If you have forgotten the password for cn=Directory Manager, then there is a work around for fixing the password in directory server and iAS.
Please let the outcome once you have done this.

  • Clarification about Load testing - BC4J - Rational Suite Enterprise edition

Further we want to know, whether BC4J component generated by the

Whenever I tried to generate traffic for one virtual user, this gives
"generic component, can not identify" in a particular BC4J component.
Otherwise rational tool identify all java classes and generate traffic

  • What's the difference between Java SDK and the Enterprise Edition?

What's the difference between Java SDK and the Enterprise Edition? Are they both free?

both r free but they are used in diffrent applications. sdk are used for simple apps that run on your computer while j2e (enterprise edition) are ment for large distributed computer systems that include servers and such. if you don't know the diffrence you probably wont need the the j2e, only the sdk.

    hi all,
How to configure Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 8.1 to my IDE..( jstudio)
I have installed jes for my windows system.. so that i have removed platform version of Application Server..
I try to add the Enterprise application Server (Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 8.1) to JStudio IDE..
    but i couldn't;

Configuring your IDE to integrate with Sun App Server is something you probably will have to ask in some sort of JStudio forum. Other than for Netbeans, Eclipse, or possibly IntelliJ IDEA, you might not have much luck answering an IDE question here. I could be wrong though. Maybe somebody will have an answer for you and set me straight.

Oracle RDBMS does NOT speak any "protocol" except SQL natively.

  • Does JMQ 3.5 SP1 Enterprise Edition use Java NIO anywhere?

    Hi,
I was wondering, does anyone know whether JMQ 3.5 SP1 Enterprise Edition uses Java NIO anywhere?
    Cheers, Andrew

    Yes ...
java.nio is not used on the client (because it needs to support older
jdk's), however we do use nio on the broker.
    java.nio is used:
    - in the "channels" support in the shared thread pool to allow
    non-blocking reads
    - we use the various Buffer classes for reading, writing and
    persisting some of our data

  • Enterprise Edition

    Hello, all;
I am a new one learning J2ee . I want to download a enterprise edition which includes various tools to help developers to prototype and test J2EE applications.
Would you please give me some recommendations which free, better edition I would download?
    Thank you!

The J2EE SDK are free anyways. The lateset version is 1.3.1 including a lot of new feature like JMS, Connector Architecture, JAXP for XML etc.
    Of course, it comes with:
    - HTTP and HTTPS server
    - COS naming
    - EJB server
    - Servlet and JSP server
    - Java Messaging server
    - J2EE Connector
    - JDBC
    - Transaction API
    - Java Mail
and whole bunch of tools as well. As as free and complete environment to explore the power of latest distributed computing, it is a great tool set.
However, it has to work together with JDK 1.3.1_02 (at least). Better with NT or 2000 if you are using Windows.
Welcome to the J2EE world !
    Cheers

  • "In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition

    Hi,
In one of our applications, we are using TimesTen 5.1.24 and Oracle 9i
    databases (platform - Solaris 9i).
TimesTen holds application information which needs to be accessed quickly
and Oracle 9i is a master application database.
Now we are looking at an option of migrating from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g
database. While exploring about Oracle 10g features, came to know about
"In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle Enterprise Edition. This made
me to think about using Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition with "In-Memory
Database Cache" option for our application.
Following are the advantages that I could visualize by adopting the
    above-mentioned approach:
    1. Data reconciliation between Oracle and TimesTen is not required (i.e.
data can be maintained only in Oracle tables and for caching "In-Memory
    Database Cache" can be used)
    2. Data maintenance is easy and gives one view access to data
I have following queries regarding the above-mentioned solution:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
In "Options and Packs" chapter in Oracle documentation
    (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/options.htm
#CIHJJBGA), I encountered the following statement:
"For the purposes of licensing Oracle In-Memory Database Cache, only the
processors on which the TimesTen In-Memory Database component of the
In-Memory Database Cache software is installed and/or running are counted
for the purpose of determining the number of licenses required."
We have servers with the following configuration. Is there a way to get the
count of processors on which the Cache software could be installed and/or
    running? Please assist.
Production box with 12 core 2 duo processors (24 cores)
Pre-production box with 8 core 2 duo processors (16 cores)
Development and test box with 2 single chip processors
Development and test box with 4 single chip processors
Development and test box with 6 single chip processors
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay,
    regarding your questions:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    ==> Seperate Installation
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    ==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
    This explains the differences.
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
==> Please see above mentioned papers
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory

    ==> Again ... ;-)
